back. I heard nothing. When I called to check on it, they said they don't have any history of any past submission or IT ticket whatsoever. So, I was asked to raise the claim request AGAIN. It took 1 hr, and STILL DIDN'T GET SUBMITTED.
All the Customer care reps were absolute nightmares with 0 empathy. So, it's been 6 days since the accident and the claim is still NOT SUBMITTED. So decide for yourself- is it worth the cheap premium?
I lodged a claim and paid the excess in December and 6 weeks later am still waiting to be reimbursed for repair costs I paid upfront. evidence of paid invoices was required. So I cancelled the booking for the inspection and immediately sent through the additional requested evidence. That was sent almost 3 weeks ago now and I’m still waiting to be reimbursed (the amount is less than $300!!!!). Poor communication, very disorganised - I don’t know what’s happened with Budget Direct but I have previously lodged claims under my Home and Car insurance policies (prior to 2020) and never had any issues. This experience has been frustrating and I am eagerly waiting for this claim to be resolved so I can switch to a different insurer.

Secret Vehicle Relocation: My car was moved without my knowledge, and its location was withheld for four months—making it impossible to get an independent assessment. It has been stored in a salvage yard and transported by forklift, causing further deterioration.
Inflated Repair Costs: The assigned repairer took four weeks to produce a grossly inflated quote, listing only OEM parts. When I provided a detailed price comparison showing parts could be sourced for 50% less, Budget Direct dismissed my evidence because I’m “not a panel beater.”
Refusal of Second Opinion: All requests for an independent assessment were denied. I was blocked from accessing my own vehicle and told it belonged to them.

Dismissed Evidence & Poor Communication: My detailed submissions and supporting documents have been ignored or dismissed, and communication has been consistently slow and unhelpful.
Stakeholder Prioritisation Over Customers: When questioned, the IDR team justified their actions by citing “obligations to stakeholders”—not to paying customers.
If you value transparency, fairness, and your rights as a customer, think twice before choosing Budget Direct. My experience shows a company more interested in protecting its bottom line than delivering on its promises or treating customers with respect.

always added this extra to my policy to ensure I would never be left without a vehicle as I travel a reasonable distance to and from work. The next day I had to catch an Uber at my own expense to pick up the rental car which wasn’t available till 11am and I was meant to start work at 8am. Approximately a week later, I received a call to advise me my vehicle had been deemed a write off. The ‘market valve’ amount I would receive to replace the vehicle, was not enough to buy anything comparable! I was also then told I had 2 business days to return the rental car. Today is day 2, I have looked at a few cars, test drove 2, and even made an offer which unfortunately fell short. I called Budget Direct this morning to ask for an extension on the hire car as not only had I not found another option but the pay out was still not in my a/c even if I had. I explained to them how unreasonable it was to take my rental car before my pay out has even hit my bank a/c. How am I now supposed to get to work Budget Direct? reported it to budget direct to make them aware but did not follow through with a claim as the damage was very minor and we could cover it. When the policy came up for renewal they refused to renew because they deemed him a high risk. Remember we did not make a claim. He is no higher risk than another other learner driver. This is a very greedy organisation that desert young Australians while learning to drive. They take our higher premiums but then when they think there is a minor risk of delving into their pockets they opt out. Un-Australian and very greedy and disappointing.
I raised an official complaint with Budget Direct but it fell on deaf ears. They will not allow us to renew our insurance because of a younger learner driver having a minor accident in the last twelves with no claim. They are not interested in supporting customers just lining their pockets with policies with minimal risk of claims.
Follow-up · After escalating the complaint Budget Direct overturned their decision and have now offered insurance for my son under the existing terms an a higher premium. Which I am Ok with.

car got fixed and I was told there is no further action required on my part. With this experience, at renewal, I moved to another insurer.
So far BD have contacted (txt, email) me 10 times saying I missed the Miranda appointment. I called back, emailed, texted back - no impact. BD randomly called and wanted me to verify my id by giving my personal details which I refused as I did not know who was calling.

their recovery team investigated, Budget Direct has continued to pursue me for the payment. I provided all available evidence, including CCTV footage clearly showing the vehicle and driver responsible, yet six months later they claim they still can’t identify or contact the other party. Meanwhile, I receive constant calls and text messages demanding payment, while my emails to their recovery team go unanswered despite promises of follow-up. The lack of communication, accountability, and follow-through has been incredibly frustrating and disappointing. If this is how they treat loyal customers when they finally need support, I’d hate to see how they treat new ones.
