We'd like to share our experience with Cavalier Homes. We built with their Hobart franchise and moved in in March 2022. We started experiencing problems within weeks. The franchisee refused to accept responsibility for any problems - denying the problem existed, saying it wasn't defective work and not his problem, and even tried to blame us. This… Read more
went on for quite some time and in the end we called our state regulator who suggested we get a building surveyor to inspect our home, which we did. The surveyor we used is an expert witness for the Tasmanian Government tribunal who hears building disputes. He inspected our house and provided a report which alleged up to 30 defects. It was distressing to read this report - for example, our bathroom and ensuite have not been waterproofed at all and will need to be completely gutted. We sent this report to the builder who ignored it. We then sent it Cavalier Homes who responded by saying 'sorry to hear that, it's the builder's responsibility not ours and we're not getting involved'. We were left with no choice but to take expensive legal action against the builder as a quantity surveyor estimated it would cost up to $300,000 to fix the alleged defects. The builder ignored the legal process for as long as he could and then delayed it continuously which enabled him to keep building more homes. Our legal case was just coming to its conclusion and now the builder has now gone into liquidation. We're sure he could see the writing on the wall. We have just received the liquidator's report with a list of creditors and its obvious we're not going to get any money. We have spent nearly $25,000 on legal fees and expert fees - all for nothing now. How are supposed to find the money to fix our house Cavalier Homes? It's been four long years of hell. The financial and emotional toll this has taken on us is indescribable. We are absolutely devastated.

fixtures are exactly as promised, and the home feels sturdy and well-built. Communication throughout the build was outstanding. Our supervisor, Josie was always available to answer questions and provide updates. We felt well-informed and involved in every step of the process. The customer service was exemplary. They addressed our concerns promptly and made sure we were satisfied with every aspect of the build. Since moving in, they have been fantastic about addressing any follow-up issues and honouring their warranty. Their commitment to customer satisfaction extends well beyond the completion of the build. The team at Cavalier walked me through every step, they listened to what I wanted and helped me define my non-negotiables. They set me up for success from the beginning making sure I was fully aware of costs & limitations relating to the build.
We worked together to ensure that the build had everything I needed and that every inch of space was functional, including completely customising the floor plan to include a split-level design that suited my block perfectly, with minimal impact and an entirely customer facade and matching roof-line.
The customer service was outstanding, from sales to contracts, to site supervisor and every employee I dealt with in between, they delivered my incredible custom home on budget, on time and despite some of the challenges we've faced with the pandemic over the last 2 years (but that impacted the build directly more recently).
I've ended up with a home that has incredible, high-quality finishes, great attention to detail and that stands out from the rest of the houses in the street - they've managed to bring something that I thought would only be a dream to life & I am beyond floored with the results. Cavalier truly have the balance right between professional and personal, between building a house and building a home.

very high standard. The only issues we had throughout our build were delays due to supply shortages and trade availability - both of which were outside the control of Cavalier Homes. Cavalier communicated these delays in a timely manner and with as much information as they could, whilst continuously trying to problem solve around them to keep the job moving along. They were flexible in their building process, without compromising the quality of the work done. We are extremely happy with the work and service provided by Cavalier Homes Albury/Wodonga, highly recommend them to others and would build with them again in future without a doubt.

Poor finishing and cabinetry – Although l think our building is very good it's the finishing touches that fail. The cabinetry is not very good. Quite a few of our drawers do not close properly. No aftercare poor heating and cooling – I'm so disappointed in Cavalier homes. After my last review they did contact us but nothing was done. So unfortunately our problems are ongoing. Our evaporative cooling has never worked properly despite a tradesman fixing it on 3 occasions. Our laminate flooring looks uneven due to unlevel concrete. Terrible experience – New house finished in March. Paid thousands for TAS Oak window frames. Left open to the rain during construction which left them all mouldy with black streaks where the wrong nails that were used have rusted. decided to call the building surveyor to inspect who confirmed it was rust. Surveyor also said they didn’t varnish before putting the putty in the door frames which caused the white streaks. Also wrong putty colour used which is very noticeable. Surveyor had to issue a Show Cause notice and follow up rectification order for 11 issues. This is still ongoing. It is embarrassing having to explain the unsightliness to all our visitors. We have tried to resolve the issues privately without success and now feel others should be made aware. This has ruined the joy of moving into our new home.

really enjoyed our walk-throughs during the build. The end product was exactly what we asked for. The build was finished well under the contracted time (good weather helped), and was absolutely on budget. The finish on our house was outstanding - we just completed the 3 month maintenance period and there were no defects or items needing repair at all. If I had to build another house tomorrow - I would build it with Cavalier Homes.

This would have been a 5 Star Review if it wasn't for a couple minor defects, the defects themselves weren't the issue, but the time.
I was advised will be fixed within the 3 Month guarantee, ending up taking over 12 months.
There was one minor defect left, they needed to follow up with a tradesperson, after this i got no response from Cavalier, left a few messages requesting a follow up, after a couple months i gave up !
A kinda disappointing end to what was a good experience.

out. I don't wish to drag this review out to a long winded story so will leave out list mistakes & build faults that should be rectified. After numerous emails, phone calls, txt message's Cavalier still can't supply me with a locked in date to complete works, remember this has been 10 months & counting. As I'm a tradesman I fully understand customers that are hard to please, material shortages, labour shortages, effects Covid has caused & simply mistakes happen which is why I have held off for so long to write a review thinking my issues would be addressed in a reasonable time frame. I also know of the concept scheduling they use that concept to build your home but doesn't exist to fix mistakes & poor workmanship after hand over (what is called maintenance period). I also blame myself for being trusting during the build & hand over doing very limited inspection before paying final payment, but unfortunately at the time Covid had caused border lock down etc & inspection was limited & rushed, also time limited as existing home sold. I carried out due diligence selected builder due to the reviews here at time of building & going off my experience either there standards have dropped or my standards are to high, but using my last builder as the bench mark Cavalier Wodonga seems way bellow that standard. Simple question, would I build with Cavalier Wodonga again which is relevant as my daughter likes one of there home designs & wants to build near us, my answer to her was, on my experience find another home builder.
