My old Turbo BBQ after 20 years died. I looked many reviews and found that everyone was praising the infra-red side burner. I started to think if it is so good why not buying Infrared BBQ. My research found that there were not many on the market and… Read more · 1
I decided to go with the cheapest option and luckily for me I found an "Australian" made one. Before I commeeted I tried to find reviews but there were not many. I bought the BBQ from Kitchen warehouse. The BBQ arrived in 3 days and was extremely well packed. Despite being advertised that the BBQwas made in Australia, on the box with capital letter was written "made in China". Assambling the trolley took about 3 hours and was a bit complicated. Once the trolley was done the rest was easy. The trolley seems to be made from alluminium, not stainless steel. For me the wheels look funny...I am not sure why they were placed facing outside of the BBQ. They are also extremely hard to lock and unlock. The space under the BBQ is enough for 2 gas bottles but everywhere is written to place only one. So if you don't use for gas bottle it seems to be a dead space. The rest of the BBQ is well made. Sturdy stainless steel hood. However the lights on the knobs seen on previous models are gone. I could not understand why they didn't make the side tables retractable? My old 20 years BBQ had retractable side table and I see that they adverise this on the new model..really? Was it really so hard to include this space saver in all their models? There were also some wires poping out the side of the BBQ. I was concerned about safety but using the BBQ I found this area not to become very hot. Still would be better these cable not to be visible.. Connecting the BBQ was a bit "difficult". The BBQ came supplied with a new gas kit which didn' fit my gas bottle. I wasn't sure whether this was due to the fact that the BBQ was made in China and sent an inquiry to Crossray...they did not respond. I asked Kitchen warehouse and they clarified the matter. I asked them why this was not included in the instruction and why an adaptor was not included...again no answer. So the fallow up process was very disappointing. Cooking was fine. The BBQ produces extreme heat but food tastes great and the learning curve is not steep. You have to just keep a close eye on the cooking because the food can be easily burnt. I found the cleaning process after cooking to be easy. No issues there. In short, the the BBQ is great and I highly recommend it. Yes, there are a few short falls such as lack of lights on hhe knobs, poor design of the trolley and visible cables but once you taste your food you will easy forget about these..just hope these pitfalls will not afect the longevity of the BBQ.
Follow-up · Thank you for the interest. Answers to the questions are below: Infrared cooking any surprises? Yes. The food cooks extremely fast and needs constant supervision. You cannot leave the food and go and do things around the house because the food will burn. The food is very tasty. I think the extreme heat generated changes the taste in good way. We… Read more
BBQ arrived pretty quickly, however when I went to assemble it I noticed both the castor seats were missing. take 7-10 working days to get the parts to me. A disappointing experience for a BBQ that costs over $2k. Please take note, these BBQ are made and packaged in China. At least with the $400 Bunnings BBQ if something is missing you can go back there and swap it out.
I had invited friends over for a BBQ this long weekend but will instead show them a BBQ in pieces and tell them not to buy a Crossray.

I have owned this BBQ for only 8 months and all though it cooks excellent it the enamel coated grill plates have already started to rust. Despite this the… Read more
rust has come through.
I suspect its the quality of the enamel coating causing initial issue and this has/is now being accelerated being QLD's humid climate. Disappointed by the longevity considering the premium price tag.
Crossray need to consider selling a full stainless steel option as the other surfaces of the grill, including the upper rack and trolley (which are stainless steel) are still in great condition.
UPDATE October 2025 - Replacement grills have been received under warranty which is appreciated. However I don't have a lot of confidence that they will last more much more than 12 months. Comment about need to oil specifically with avocado oil is not mentioned anywhere in the manual....
2ND UPDATE November 2025 - Less than 1 month after new grill plates have arrived under warranty 1 of 3 have already started to rust again (new photos 4 and 5 added). Even used avocado oil (see photo 5) specifically this time as suggested by support. Guessing the coating they apply to these grills is of cheap/poor quality and/or not compatible with the temperatures this BBQ can reach. Really disappointing considering price paid. For anyone reading, since Crossray won't offer stainless steel grill plates to match the rest of the BBQ build, please be aware that there is a company custom making stainless steel plates to fit there BBQ range: https://www.topnotchoutdoors.com.au/products/crossray-280-x-395mm-topnotch-stainless-steel-round-bar-grill

Best gas BBQ I have ever owned. East / West burner layout facilitates easy indirect grilling . I can do three whole spatchcocked chickens or a bunch of chicken wings on the top grate indirect with only the two front burners lit. It is also a searing monster for that perfect crust on steaks . The extreme heat capability of this unit is your… Read more · 1
friend for good grilling however with great power also comes responsibility . Make sure to clean this grill and the grease tray thoroughly after every cook if you plan to fire it up on all 4 burners otherwise you will end up with a fat fire . I removed the burner retaining brackets on mine so I can pull the burners out for easy cleaning . I have absolutely hammered mine in the 5 years that I have owned it , cooking on it up to five times a week , however product support and spare parts availability from Crossray has been excellent. Did I mention that I absolutely love this BBQ ?

The BBQ you didn't know you had to have – Once you've move to the Crossray there's no going back. Perfect for basic steaks, chops, cevaps ect through to amazing pizzas and of course some of the best gyros. Has the ability to cook super hot and seal in moisture. The Crossray tech burns up drippings before they hit the tray, therefore cleaning is minimal and this burn creates a beautiful smokey flavour. I won't cook on a conventional unit from now on. Finally a gem of a BBQ! – The Crossray has fitted in beautifully with our lifestyle. We’ve cooked just about everything to perfection. It looks the part and does do what the advertising says it will do. I recommend using the cooking book settings as it is different from other BBQs, it’s much hotter. Cleaning is about the same as other BBQs, always a chore. This is the best BBQ we’ve had. Love it! Show details

Variety – I originally bought this bbq to do roast pork on rotisserie set up. High heat in an oven is so hard to clean but on the crossray it’s not an issue. I use a front and rear burner on high with the lid shut for the first half hour and then turn the burners down and open the lid for the rest of the cook and it comes out a treat. Steaks on the grill… Read more
plate take about 6 minutes for a medium rare cook. The top rack can fit 2 pizzas stones that get the job done in a bout 10 minutes on a pre heated bbq.. And only recently I tried a slow cook lamb shoulder… because it cooks so well on high heat I wasn’t sure how it would turn out, but with number one burner on low with a flat plate over top and a water pan on top of that I could maintain 110 degrees for a 6hr cook.
This is the best, most well rounded bbq I’ve ever owned. Took a while to get used to high heat cooking, but worth the time to get better at
Unbelievable BBQ – By far the Best Purchase I’ve made. Looked at many other brands with No budget knowing I’ll have it for 10+ years. But kept coming back to the Crossray. Made the Purchase and Glad I did Wow what a BBQ have had it for 3months and used over 40 times and have cooked everything you can put in it. 10/10 highly recommend it to anyone! Show details

I wanted to love but I have ruined too many dinners – Pros: Sturdy Construction: The gas BBQ is well-built and appears durable. Ample Cooking Space: The cooking area is spacious, allowing for the preparation of multiple items simultaneously. Quick Ignition: The BBQ ignites quickly, saving time and ensuring a convenient grilling experience. Since the first bbq was broken and replaced, the customer… Read more
service is excellent. The taste of the food when cooked properly is yummy.
Cons:
Excessive Heat: One major drawback is the excessive heat generated by the BBQ. It tends to burn much hotter than expected, making it challenging to control the cooking temperature. I have never set the dials higher than the lowest temperature. Our reviews have said the same thing. Fat Fires: The BBQ has a tendency to create major fat fires, which poses a safety hazard and can lead to unevenly cooked food. The flare-ups also result in too many burnt or charred portions of the meal. I always end up with the worst fat flames when I prepare lamb. I am aware that lamb has a high fat content, however I had no trouble cooking lamb on my last bbq. It's also very concerning to see the hotplate grills falling apart. Their deterioration and the potential impact on the quality and safety of my cooking is a concern because I have found bits of it on our meat. I can just chip away at it with my fingers.
I have tried to love this bbq as it was expensive but I wish I had purchased something else. I use it about twice a week and am told I cook the best steaks but with this bbq I am now known as the person that burns everything. This bbq is 1year old and I bought it online from Bunnings.
An amazing BBQ!!! – I have been delighted with the Crossray 4-burner BBQ and I highly recommend it. As a steak lover, with a preference for meat on the rare end of the spectrum, I wanted something which could get get very hot for the perfect centre and delicious crust. After a LOT of research, I went with the Crossray BBQ and I have not been disappointed. I have… Read more
been delighted in fact. I am literally making restaurant grade steaks, cooked exactly as I like it. So much so, that if I really want a great steak, I will just make it at home now. See below for the technique I use.
The best part about having the Crossray: the steak is high quality and affordable. Imagine how much a 500g wagyu MBS 7-9+ steak would be in a restaurant compared to what you could make it at home, assuming you can actually find somewhere that will make it to your desired weight and thickness. Also, no restaurant is "dry brining" or cooking it "reverse sear" for you either. That is the beauty of having a BBQ this good.
But it does more than just cook an awesome steak. Lamb comes out a dream, fish is succulent and juicy (again there is a technique here, but I cooked some of the best fish ever on my Crossray and it was cooked much faster than in my oven) and sausages are amazing. The meat comes out really delicious and with that great flame-grilled taste. I also recently picked up a rotisserie kit and I am excited to use it for a pork roast with crackle and a whole duck with crispy skin, one of my absolute favourite dishes. Can't wait to see the bird spinning on my rotisserie.
Finally, if I must end on something, it is talking about the versatility of the BBQ to make an extraordinary burger which, again, when you master the technique, will come out better than anything you can buy elsewhere. See below for my burger technique.
So in summary, I am delighted with the Crossray. I love that I literally make meals better than restaurants with it and, when I am just after an amazing meal, now, I would honestly rather just stay in and cook everything perfectly my way, than need to go to a restaurant. Oh, and the service from the Crossray team has been wonderful. I have called them now about how best to clean & maintain and other questions about the BBQ and there is always someone on hand to gladly answer. No referring me back to whatever store I bought it from. No, the Crossray team takes the call and they help you. And any issues you have with the BBQ - they help you directly with that also.
If you love your meat and you love to BBQ, the Crossray is amazing. Lots of online resources for how to cook with the Crossray also. Just search for Crossray on YouTube and there are a number of videos with Jack the Greek cooking different foods. The Crossray is a strong recommend from me.
___________
Steak technique:
For the steak connoisseurs amongst us, I start by dry brining my steak overnight in my fridge. I then reverse sear it by firstly switching on one burner in the Crossray to low and waiting for the BBQ temperature to reach ~100-120 degrees (I use my own thermometer to measure the temperature where the meat actually is, as opposed to the BBQ thermometer which is in the lid). Once reached, I put my steak on the other side of the BBQ (i.e. the side without the flame), lid down, and leave it until it reaches my desired internal temperature (for me, that is 36 degrees for a rare steak). Once reached, I take the steak out and then put all the burners on high, with lid down. At this point, look out, because this BBQ reaches an EPIC hot heat. I then give the steak a sear on the BBQ for about 90-120 seconds each side. An incredible steak has just been delivered, complete with restaurant style dark grill lines! (Tip: A quick 90-degree turn of the steak half way through on each side, gives you those wonderful diamond grill lines)
Burger technique:
When I know we are having burgers that evening, I will firstly make my burger rolls/buns that day so they are fresh and I will bake them in the Crossray using 2 burners on low-medium heat (rolls on the other side of the BBQ again, away from the flame). In the evening, I will complete my burger ingredients prep and fire up the Crossray to the maximum temperature with my cast iron griddle inside. I then make double-patty wagyu smashed burgers with a quick sear on both sides (high temperature gloves a must) until the patties are a deep golden brown outside and lightly cooked inside (2-4 min is usually all it needs). Assemble your burger and, voilà, it is incredible and so fresh! (The next Crossray accessory I will buy will be a Hotplate for my bacon and egg sandwiches. Currently I am using my cast iron griddle in the Crossray which is still amazing, but it would be great to have the hotplate for maximum convenience).
Great BBQ – After much research, we decided on this BBQ because of its design and innovative method of cooking. Brandon was very helpful in providing product dimensions and options, as I was building he BBQ into an outdoor kitchen/alfresco setting. Cooking results are fantastic. I use the hotplate for stir-fry vegies and also some meats (such as crumbed… Read more
lamb cutlets, and occasionally sausages), and use the grill for anything you would traditionally grill - meats, sausages.
I chose the natural gas option. One infrared burner was difficult to light, and a phone call to Brandon provided a recommended solution - to clean out the jets. This worked, but had it not, Brandon was going to ship a replacement set of jets.
Cleaning is very easy with a large tray that collects the fat and the tray is easily scraped out after the BBQ cools.
The design of the BBQ is elegant, and the assembly is easy because of the inherently good design, and clear instructions provided.
We have also purchased a Heatstrip infrared heater from the same company (Thermofilm) which manufactures the BBQ. Again, Brandon provided great pre-purchase information about the product. We located the heater over that outdoor table setting, and the Thermofilm heater provides a subtle but effective radiant heat from above, which is a unique feeling when you are sitting outdoors on a chilly night.
Well done to an Australian company for providing two excellent products!

Crossway Excellence – The Crossway 4 burner BBQ is the very best on the market. Every meal from a sausage to steak and onwards to a Pizza are just cooked to perfection. Added fact is pace of cooking time and massive savings on the Gas. I am not sure how many of my friends are now owners but I seriously recommend this product to everybody. Show reply
Great BBQ – I use my bbq about 3 times a week as I only eat meat so I load up every square inch of space on it and I’m surprised all meat cooks evenly all over the cooking surface which was unlike my last bbq which only had the back half of useful grilling space. just from the radiant heat. I only clean the insides about once a month so there’s always fat drippings in there. The high heat output means a great sear to lock in the juices. One inch thick steak for two minutes each side gives me medium to medium rare steaks yuuuum. I can’t fault my crossray and would recommend it to any serious carnivores.
Great BBQ – After a couple of weeks wondering if we had done the right thing the BBQ is now used 3-4 times a week all year. great quality. For once we are better off in Australia than in the rest of the world for a product.
I find the BBQ quite easy to clean - use a wirebrush and if you can't get to everything, have it on high for 10 minutes with the hood down and you have a pyrolitic effect. I cook lamb, fish, and vegetables. They all work out well. The BBQ worked well in quite a bit of wind.
I am a beginner with BBQ but good at researching and this is the best BBQ I could find under $10,000.

Great cooking, pain to clean – First to the cooking (5/5). We use the BBQ at least three times a week and it does an excellent job. used. The only negative is cleaning (3/5). Compared to my other BBQ (a stainless steel Jumbuck) it is a pain to clean. There a lots of difficult to clean places where fat accumulates and needs to be removed. The design would also be helped if the v-shaped drip tray was a little further from the burners. This would reduce flare ups that occur when cooking fatty meats.
Changed the way we think about BBQing – Our 4 burner is the best purchase we have made. We rarely use the kitchen for anything. It cooks any meat or grilled vegis to perfection. The heating rack finishes everything off after a hot ( I mean hot) searing. Hint: we bought a cast iron WOK and after its heated on the Crossray we make the best stir fry you will every have. Best BBQ I've owned! – The Crossray is probably my 4th or 5th BBQ owned over my life and have to say I find this the best I've owned. It has beautiful even heat and a very low tendency to flair and a good high heat when you want to sear something quickly. Its just a very clever and original design. Highly recommended.
