Awsome coffee in an instant – Drank instant coffee until I told my wife I was over coffee. She purchased this for my birthday and now I love coffee again. So easy to use and great coffee.
Had the first one for more than 5 years – Best Value for money ever, had the first one for over 5 years, used 5-6 times a day, have just bought our second one, so happy I will buy a spare and put away, cause who knows when when production will stop or change Show details
It’s ok for the money – So this coffee machine is ok for the money we paid. The extraction is never really consistent. The wand runs out of steam easily but i guess you get what you pay for.

Best performer – I’ve moved into a smaller place. I used to use a Jura Ena5. That’s too big. So I went hunting for a simple machine that will give me the opportunity to use different coffee beans. Honestly have a machine that grinds your beans is good but then you are stuck with the one flavour. The delonghi is fantastic. It is consistent and reliable. Even my 11… Read more · 1
year old can use it. I don’t use the cup warmer or the milk steamer. I heat half a cup of milk in the microwave and I have programmed the two cup option to fill the rest with coffee. To those that aren’t happy with their brew, change your beans. Love this machine.
Second Delonghi dedica. Work Horse and Slight improvement after few years – this is my second unit. the first last for 3 years and is still working. Improvement on the porta filter is quite good. giving better consistencies. Black color is very good. The red unit previously peels off after a few years. Previous unit looses pressure due to wear and tear. there are many instructions online to swap over the steam outlet which gives significant improvement. Show details
Was great then it melted due to fault. DeLonghi were great in response resolution – This machine is great for its size and does make a great coffee. Unfortunately ours decided one morning to melt from within. I returned to JB HIFI only to be asked did we melt it on the stove. I said no I was making my normal morning coffee and it melted from within. I rightly asked for a refund and wanted to purchase another machine. They… Read more
declined and said it needs to be sent back to DELONGHI for assessment and will take 6 weeks. I said not good enough but no choice given.
Delonghi were great and communicated well. After giving them the opportunity to respond they searched for the item and got it assessed as a priority. I was offered a replacement or they would send replacement to store and get a refund. Great customer service from DeLonghi and in saying this if something is faulty I will buy it which is my luck.

Good Little Machine (Edited July 2023) – Added in July 2023 - changed my rating from 4 stars to 3. Machine having little issues - for example, the steamer pulsates and takes almost twice as long to heat the milk. Suspect will not last much past the warranty period. Original review - This is the 2nd Delonghi Dedica I've had ($219.95). My first was the more expensive version. I've had… Read more
the current one for about 3 months. Well worth reading the instructions first, as you can change many things to customise. Makes a good cuppa. Only minor criticisms. The machine shakes a little during coffee phase which means I need to watch the petite cup doesn't move too much. And I took the steamer outer tube off (what barista have you seen uses this tube!! - none!). But the end of the steamer blew off each time - hot milk everywhere. Found an easy fix for that, but still believe it shouldn't happen. And the steamer does tend to stop mid-steam. That's usually because of the design of the switch - you need to push it to its maximum, or it will disconnect.
Perfect for small spaces and tight budgets – I have owned the original magnifica s and several Nespresso machines over the years but this is my favourite - mainly for looks, noise and size. It looks and feel solid, it’s quick to start up and the coffee measure is perfect along with the tamper end. Fine for low output like me. It heats up and dispenses the coffee almost silently and even the… Read more
milk frothing isn’t that noisy, perfect for early morning coffees when people are asleep! The water dispenser is LOUD and slow - just boil the kettle, there doesn’t seem to be any distinction between froth milk, heat milk and hot water which is hard to grasp, it’s all the same mark! The water comes out hot enough for most people unless you’re a tea officiando it’s good for emergencies! The pump for the frother/water dispenser makes a slight noise but it’s very manageable. It really takes up very little room and makes coffee really quick. Now I am stuck at home this is stopping me going out when I get my cappuccino craving.
Makes great coffee, easy to ur and clean – This is a perfect machine for 1 or 2 people who just want to heat up a little milk with their espresso. It has a limited steam output which is fine for us. It can use ground coffee or pods but haven't tried pods. It heat so up quickly and gives good, fairly hot espresso. Going from using the milk frother to espresso is a bit glitchy and we end up… Read more
just turning off the machine after frothing the milk, then back on again and it's set to go on the espresso setting again.. I'm sure it's an easy fix.
The only downside I find with this machine is the coffee basket/group head which is aluminium and plastic. It would be better if it was stainless and I would buy it as an extra if it were available.
I'm really happy with this machine overall though and not having to use pods was the main Reason for buying it. There are not many other machines out there at this price that are decent and don't use pods. It's also way smaller than its sunbeam competitor so doesn't use as much bench space and still the size of a pod machine.

Perfect for 2 years only – It worked perfectly for 21 months producing my espressos like it should. Not even 2 years on and the water doesn't pass through the espresso. It just sits on top of the grinds and produces only drips of coffee. I tested the water flow without attaching the coffee handle and it dispenses fine. Must be a pressure related problem. I look after my machine, do everything I am supposed to with descaling and cleaning the parts. Really disappointing. Show details · 1
What a great surprise, for the price it works extremely well. Great value – I find it works very well for me. I have only just bought it so I can’t speak for longevity yet, but so far it produces very acceptable shots using espresso grounds, it produces a good crema. The steam wand seems more powerful than my big machine too so the machine does what I bought it to do. . The machine is lightweight as expected so the most… Read more · 3
difficult thing about it is holding it still while I insert the tight (that’s good) filter holder. A suggestion for other buyers -use filtered water to greatly reduce cleaning and descaling.
Good compact coffee machine – I like the Delonghi EC685. It is compact and makes decent coffee. I have found that the lights on the machine often flash yellow and I have to turn it on and off a few times to get it to work. The coffee is always consistent, good temperature and I really like the single or double shot options. I also find the steam wand never works first go. I… Read more · 1
always have to flick the silver switch on and off, same with the steam button to get it to work. It does steam milk really well once it works!
Overall, for the $199 I paid I am happy with this machine.
Negative reviews
Not good – My first one lasted 5 years... then I had to buy 3 in 12 months with the newer model version.. The pump stopped working on all 3 occassions. When I returned it, I had to wait weeks for it to be fixed then the problem occured shortly after that. Show details

disappointed – This machine does not do what the description states. The coffee is poor almost like dishwater.Changed coffee brand to the top of the range with the same result.Could not recommend this product. Show details
You pay for what you get. Unreliable and poor performing – This machine was great for the first 2 months, then it failed intermittently thereafter. DeLonghi have a repair process and refuse to provide a replacement/refund until they have deemed the machine completely un-repairable. Have been without the machine for 5 weeks now, and have spent more money in the past 5 weeks purchasing coffee than the total… Read more
cost of the machine. They are sending it back "repaired", only for me to hope it doesn't happen again, and if so, they will request it to be sent away again. Super disappointing at their customer service and "processes" in place, really making the whole experience a lot worse.

Disappointed at longevity – Bought this machine again after my first one died after about two years… Two years later, and just out of warranty, it’s happened again. I’m pretty disappointed at the quality of the machine. Coffee it makes is fine and it’s easy to use but I’m honestly unhappy about the machine breaking down just after the two year mark. Show details
Awful – Bought about 3 weeks ago and very disappointed in my purchase. Really hard to make a nice cup of coffee consistently. Needs a lot of thorough deep cleaning way more often than a home machine should. Steaming isn’t great. You basically need to buy a bunch of accessories to mod the machine to make it work better, as per reviews. Contacted Delonghi… Read more

Very happy customer – We bought this coffee machine as I love my double shots (hold the milk) and wanted to see if I could make coffee as good as local cafe (not quite the same as our local barista, but close). The Crema is amazing and quality very good. I haven't used frother yet as I don't drink milk so can't comment. Would recommend. Show details
Love this machine, had it 1.5 years - but losing pressure – Worked fantastic for first year - yes, price wise this machine was extremely affordable - so I was not expecting it to be as good as it was. Unfortunately about 12mths it has started losing pressure and hopefully I can get it repaired or solve the issue. I descale it when ever it flashes the yellow light, but it might just be that it needs a… Read more
service of some kind.
Took a while to work out the right grind (can't be too fine) and about every second time the pressure is normal, but in the past few months it will regularly lose pressure and the shot will pour in slow drips. At first I thought it was the grind, but it will pour very slow on the same grind it previously poured perfectly with.
I would love a solution to fix this, as I would love to get at least 2-3 years before investing in a new one.
Great til it doesn’t work – Loved this machine but now - it’s a pain in the neck. I have the exact same problem as this: It switches on and heats up fine. When I press the button to pull a double shot it will start pouring the espresso but after a few seconds all three lights flash for a few seconds and it stops pouring. It’s not a full shot by weight it’s only 30ish grams… Read more
for a double. I can then press the button again and get the rest of the double, same thing happens even with a bottomless portafilter so it’s not too much coffee or too fine as I’ve run the machine without coffee and the same problem occurs.
When I use the steam wand, it works fine for a few seconds, but then the three lights flash again and it switches off and I have to reset the steam function to get it going again, it makes it impossible to steam or froth milk.

Better than Cafe Coffee – I worked as a barista for 7 years and this honestly is sensational coffee. For a cheaper, slimline coffee machine, its quick warm-up time and simple functionality is flawless. Excellent pressure against the coffee grounds produces a rich crema ready for any latte art, and the steam wand heats milk to the silkiest texture. I've had this for two… Read more · 1
years and no sign of slowling down. I'm torn between wanting to be a regular at the local cafe, and realising the best coffee in town is in my kitchen...
simple to use – bought this machine for our caravan and it fits the bill, simple to use, compact and makes an acceptable shot. One downer is the coffee holder clogs consistently requiring cleaning. Very frustrating as it wastes coffee but requires a needle to clean the orifice. Show details · 1

Consistently great coffee – Easy to use, doesn't take up much bench space. We did buy a bodum coffee grinder as freshly ground beans make all the difference. Produces a coffee the same as a Cafe once we figured out the best grind/how to barely pack it as at first the water couldn't get through when we packed it too tight. For frothing milk I bought a Breville thermal milk jug that shows how hot the milk is getting- amazing. Got the coffee machine on sale at Myer! Show details · 1
Very Frustrating – When it makes a coffee it is quite good. However, like other reviews it constantly tries your patience as to whether it will actually make a cup of coffee. Have done the cleaning, etc works and then will fail again. Also the coffee cup filters that go in the holder fall out at will, which means more wasted coffee grounds. Would not buy again. Shaking machine – Question to others when you use this machine does it shake? My one does and I have to hold the cup so it does not fell off from its place. Did I do something wrong during installation or just have a faulty machine? Oh and it’s very noisy as well. Show details

Wow, didn't expect it to be as good as it is! – We have a Sunbeam Cafe Series EM7100 that is brilliant and never fails to deliver a wonderful cafe style coffee. We wanted a coffee machine that was more compact to use in our motorhome. Made my first cappuccino with the DeLonghi Dedica today, not expecting it to taste as good as the ones made with my Sunbeam machine, but it was! Won't be making inferior pod coffees anymore on our travels! Show details · 1
OK first machine but not as good as store bought coffee – I would say that the machine is good for learning to mess around with grind size and tamping force. You can make a pretty good coffee but it is hard to replicate good coffee if you lack a good grinder as grind size also effects required tamping force. This machine is very reliant on getting the grind and tamping force right to make great coffee it… Read more
is not a machine that you can just jam a whole bunch of ground coffee into and press a button. I found it to be quite annoying in a way because one morning I will make a really great cup and then the next morning I will make a bitter disappointing cup. I need a better grinder I think and possible more skill :)
The two bad points of this machine are that the steamer IMO is pretty lame almost seems like an afterthought, and doesn't really work great. I don't really make coffee at home that requires the steamer though, so this is not a big issue for me. The biggest problem I have found with this machine is that for some reason the machine will occasionally "block up" and the water will not flow out the bottom of the extraction unit. I am unsure what causes this, I thought it might be over tamping, but I have it happen to me when I am sure that I have just tamped it normally. It might be that the machine lacks a bit of water pressure and that causes the blocks, I don't really know. It is annoying because then you have to throw out good coffee and start again.
All in all though, I still find it a good machine and it generally works well for me. It has also allowed me to increase my barista knowledge a bunch and I am looking around to see if I can find an smaller ex-commercial machine for cheap.

Super good value machine with compact greatness – This machine provides me cafe quality every morning WITH a good real espresso grinder beside it AND fresh coffee bean I selected myself. The ease of use is no-brainer. But I have basic knowledge about coffee brewing such as dosing, weighing, grind size, brew timing etc. If you have the essential coffee skill, this machine can do what you need for… Read more · 1
sure. Oh and I steam without the metal sleeve for the cafe quality foam but I have to zip tie the rubber tube inside. I also set the temperature to high for the bean I use. Like i said, this machine can provide me cafe quality every morning.
Easy to use – I have bought this machine from Aldi. It works pretty good and I do make coffee every morning and afternoon. I'm happy with it. Good price and very competitive with rival products. Show details
Great – Great and compact coffee machine that makes a delicious coffee. Easy to use. However as expected there are a few dishes and bits to clean up afterwards. Would still recommend to friends and family Show details
Recommended at $249 – Good small home machine. If you can buy this coffee machine on special for $249 or less, and you dont need to make more than 4 cups a day, then I recommend. Nothing I have experienced can compete at this price point and its a DeLonghi so build quality is superior to Chinese cheap. at $600. Just make sure you buy a breville that is NOT made in China!
I say 4 cups because the water container is smaller in comparison and the build is not really suited to more use than this.
A basic coffee machine – Bought a Delonghi Dedica EC 685 model about a year ago and found it easy to use and makes good consistent expresso coffee. Functions are basic and the temperature has only one setting but generally found the machine value for money. Show details
JUNK! – After owning other coffee machines ,and could always get a decent cup of coffee I decided to buy a delonghi dedica. I have only used it 4 times and have thrown it in the cupboard in total frustration. The coffee (a double shot)comes out weak and not very hot, I always have to put the coffee in the microwave,I think this machine is absolute rubbish. It was a good machine, till it wasn't – In six months this machine has played silly buggers six times, did a full descale each time, unscrewed the filters etc, even soaked them in napisan overnight, water still wont pump through the basket.
