Very satisfied – I purchased my Dyson AM05 in December 2016, after my cat knocked it over not long after purchase it was very noisy.. now after 7.5 years (June 2024) it is still going strong heating. With the original battery in the remote. I have since retired this item and purchased a newer model. HP03BN Show details · 1
Hugely Disappointing – I have had this model for a few years now. I understand that it has been superseded and I am not surprised at that. Having read many of the reviews now, I concur that this product is not what I expected it would be but have put up with it thinking it was just me. It’s certainly hugely noisy, I don’t think it pumps the heat out enough and is… Read more
consuming heaps of electricity because it takes so long to reach the set temperature. ( I aim for 21 degrees). I live in an apartment so it is not a huge space to heat. I note this model was recalled but I have not been notified of that. Although replaced by a new model, I’d urge no one to purchase this model either second hand or new ( if there’s still old stock around. Totally unhappy and not recommend.
Noisy Fan – I bought Am05 hot cool fan for my 11months son the noise is ridiculously loud my son wake up every hr . Usually he used to wake up every 5 hrs for feed. Show details

Decent space heater, compact design; but major design flaws sadly *Updated* – ***UPDATE*** After this review Dyson kindly reached out and picked up the heater and replaced it with a new one, with warranty. The new AM09 is a vast improvement over the older version. Not only is it quieter but also more feature laden. We used it often this winter and had zero issues. Hoping it will last the course. I can overlook the… Read more
previous models massive design flaws as they have recalled it and have repaired, or replaced the old one. The new one is leaps and bounds better. It should have been what the original was to begin with. 4 stars as the hassles were a pain to get anything sorted. Hoping going forward Dyson has ironed out the kinks in its products and happy to give them a go again. But only one more time.
We purchased previously a AM06 Desk Fan, which is decent, but not perfect. Oddly this Hot + Cool AM05 is actually significantly louder than the plain desk fan, which was disappointing. We were on the fence about buying yet another Dyson product, but some friends said it was quite decent.
I will start with the pros, as there are fewer than the cons. It really does work, functionally well. On another website that tests items, a consumer watchdog site, these heaters were rated the highest amongst all tested. And they do work. They warm a room very quickly and efficiently, as it won/t be running for long periods of time. The remote is typical Dyson and easy to use. I would say that as a heater is quite good. Takes up a very small amount of space, which is excellent for city living. It actually can heat a fairly decent sized lounge or bedroom. Pros: Efficient (due to the quick warming and even warming of a room) Portable and compact size Easy to use
Unfortunately the cons outweigh the pros by a large margin. One of the biggest issues is noise; it’s loud and even on 1 of 10. So don’t think you could watch a movie in the same room with this on full fan. You have no choice but to turn up the volume of conversation and TV. The build quality is also not top notch, owning to manufacture in Malaysia. There was also a recall of many of these machines, and while technically ours was not part of it, I find that it should have been.
From day one, when oscillating, it would make a pronounced “tick” noise, as if it were getting stuck or a piece was caught in the mechanism. So off it went to Dyson’s repair centre under warranty. After 5 weeks it was returned, not the most helpful as it was needed and there was not even a loaner machine offered during the time, a oversight especially as the price dictates a bit better service. About a month after getting it back, another more troubling issue reared its head. When on standby, fan power on, but the temp set so that the machines’ fan and heat should not be on. However, to my dismay, I heard in the middle of the night a grinding noise that was intermittent but became steady over a weeks time. The worrying part was even though it should have been “off”, you could feel a slight amount of air blowing out and it was hot air. Something I found dangerous as the thermostat would dictate the machine should not be on. We immediately stopped using the machine, and I emailed Dyson customer service. They said once again to send it in. I explained in detail the issue and even was able to make a video documenting the issue. What was worrying the most is if the machine was completely turned off, yet it many have come on blowing just a minimum of air and heat, that it could malfunction and overheat somehow. So off it went to Dyson. After weeks, and several emails, they seemed to have lost the machine. Excuse me? Of course they didn’t say it was lost, they just continued the generic responses. Nearly 9 weeks later, I received an email saying that they found no faults and would return it to me. Over a week later we got it back and oddly it hasn’t done it since. However as of this writing it has returned. Don’t know what to do next with it. As it is winter time, and being without this heater for another 2-3 months, not sure if its worth it. As there is warranty remaining, but they just don’t seem to stand behind their rather pricey products. Cons: Reliability Possible dangerous defects Heating and motor running almost silence when in “standby” Horrendous customer support (I don’t even think they looked at it the second service and when found they just returned to me). Poor build quality Dyson unable to offer a “loaner” during the winter months Noise is truly unacceptable
So while this review is shorter than my normal reviews, a short, condensed version is called for, mainly for a product that is quite simple to use and has a simple purpose. I’d have to advise to avoid this model, and because there is a new one out, I’m not sure if its worth the cost, especially if the same issue exists. I have heard the newer model and it is significantly quieter, which takes care of a major flaw.
Personally I don’t think I would be able to purchase another fan or heater from Dyson. Perhaps if they gave a “60 day” no questions asked return policy; try it out and if you aren’t satisfied return it. But with their abhorrent customer service, and service techs, and subpar “repair process” that literally takes months, I can’t in good conscience recommend this AM05. Even though rated high in some test, the lack of reliability, poor construction and extremely poor warranty (2 years, where anything in this price range have 10+ if not lifetime warranties). And the customer service and repair process is beyond ridiculous. Sorry Dyson, a major miss for me, I will be reviewing a few more Dysons, stick vacs to be precise, hoping they can redeem the Dyson name for me.
Ok but overpriced – Some reviews here compare this unit to a cheap fan heater from supermarkets without acknowledging it as being the most efficient "fan heater" on the market. Yes, cheap fan heaters may churn out the heat as well as this does but see how your electricity bill compares. So the best quality of the Dyson is it's efficiency for a fan heater. After… Read more
my reverse cycle air con heater (the most efficient form of any heating) broke down It does the job for me as a space heater. The latest model is much quieter than older models but you'll pay about $200 extra. I had bought the cheaper older model but it sounded like a jet engine on the lowest setting so I returned it to swap for new model which is substantially quieter. having said that, it is still fairly noisy on higher settings. My electricity bill was up by about $150 compared to using my reverse cycle air con but that's to be expected for a fan heater. It looks good, has a remote control and is easy to move around the house but at around $700 it is a very expensive fan heater and I regret purchasing it now I have had my reverse cycle replaced for a main heating system.
I would recommend it for anyone who can only have electric heating and is unable to install a reverse cycle or other more expensive permanently fixed forms of heating, so good for tenants in apartments with no heating for example. Otherwise I'm not so sure if it's so great for the price and I'm curious as to how long it will last.
A Unique Product – If you expect this product to be virtually silent or provide air conditioned cooling.. then forget it. Right now to the good stuff! I bought this and it replaced a 4ft high cooling tower fan and a sizeable electric radiator both of which were expensive. I have read many reviews pointing out that it cannot heat a room any faster than all all other… Read more · 1
2kw heaters... this is also probably true... but it completely misses the point. It can't heat the overall room up any faster... but it can warm you up extremely quickly by targeting the warm air immediately on you in a gentle breeze. This can be done by other cheaper fan heaters but the Dyson has a huge advantage in the level of control you have. As I write this my I am sitting in my conservatory in late November at a very comfortable temperature of 21c.
My Dyson is completely silent and just occasionally starts up on the lowest setting and gently warms up the room again when the temperature starts to fall. I only ever use the maximum setting if the room is totally freezing and I want to warm the room up before I intend to use it.
I also value the style and portability of my Dyson highly. It is expensive.. Yes... and you can buy a small 2kw fan heater for £40.. but it will not look as good or do what a Dyson does with the same efficiency.
Understand what it can and can't do... View it in a store... Then buy it if you can afford it. I am perfectly happy with my purchase

Great fan but a bit noisy for the price – I love the features & functionality of this fan but it’s noisier than I would have liked. I bought 2 as I am an asthmatic & they’re super easy to clean. Easy to operate, comes with a remote which stores magnetically on the top of the unit. A great feature. I also love the hot and cold in the 1 fan. Unless Dyson addresses the noise issue I… Read more · 1
wouldn’t buy another. My $15 cheapie does just as good a job & is almost silent - but harder to clean.
Good heater and cooler in one! – We bought this Dyson hot+cool last August. We liked the idea of an appliance being dual purpose because our house is tiny and space is a premium. I am satisfied with the heating and cooling it provides inside our bedroom. We should have bought one more unit for the lounge area. Great buy! Show details
Quality heater – Love this heater. You can easily control the temperature. It is a bit on the noisy side once you go above 25C for the heating. The remote control is a handy bonus. It is a bit pricey but it's worth it because it gives both heating and cooling. Definitely a quality product and highly recommend. Show details

Terrible Product & No Consumer Service – We paid $500 Canadian for a Dyson AM-05 Hot-Cool fan. It stopped working within a year. Great but expensive and maybe better with a 12 Kmart unit – We had the fan for a while now. Its very good and functional but for the price tag aside from a good looking device and able to speak out loud you own a Dyson when friends visiting the kmart heater and fan cost 12 bucks work as well as good. Great heating, even airflow, expensive price – The Dyson AM05 offers heating and cooling in the signature form factor (bladeless). It has a nice even air flow and looks awesome, but it comes at a price. After living and using it for a while, a few limitations become apparent: 1. There is no timer/sleep function (something you may take for granted) 2. There is no variable airflow/"Nature"… Read more
mode - i.e. you set a power level and it sticks to it constantly
3. Higher power modes are very noisy compared to a regular fan
4. It is easier to clean than a regular fan (since you don't need to open the mesh or clean moving fins/blades) but you need to clean the areas where dust can accumulate in the suction areas.
5. The round stand which it sits on isn't that durable when removing/reinstalling - a couple of house moves and two out of three of the clips on ours have been broken.
Overall it's a great fan and stylish, but not without it's drawbacks which are surprising in this price point.

For the price, the product experience is unacceptable – Summary: For the price, you'd expect a better experience with the product AND servicing when the product doesn't function like it's supposed to. I bought it for the air purifier function which worked well for a month before the filter starting to make air smell foul.

Disappointed With Dyson AM05 Hot + Cool Fan – After being such loyal Dyson Vacuum officianados for so long we thought ‘their fans must be bloody amazing” right? So wrong. Way too expensive for what it does – I had AM05 purchased from David jones under impression big brand high quality. Never used it for a while as it was in spare room. Dyson AM05 Hot + Cool – I recently purchased a Dyson AM05 Hot + Cool from Big W for $399. I was excited knowing that it as a 'Dyson' product and that it is bladeless/stylish etc. I seriously considered returning it when I had just bought it as it is quite expensive for what it is. Compared with a $12 heater from Kmart, I'm a little dissapointed. It does the job but it is nothing special. Show details
Way over priced for what it does – We bought this a few years ago now but stopped using it after they were recalled. We sent ours off as requested and when we got it back it wouldn't even warm up our small bathroom, of course within a week it was out of warranty so we couldn't even return it. We could have spent under $100 to get something that actually did the job. I think Dyson are just trading on their name now and the products dont always do what you pay for. Show details

We love this heater/cooler – We love this heater and cooler. It is fairly noisey... and isn't really a replacement for an air con or whole house heating but it is so great at heating rooms (closed doors) and cooling in close range. Loud, but it's a great heater – Writing a quick review for my Dyson AM05 that I've happilly had for two years now. It's not skipped a beat since I purchased the machine, much like my Dyson Vaccuum cleaner which I've had for ten years. the look of the AM05; many others of it's kind aren't so pretty. Yes, it is noisy on high speed and if you're using it through the night. It's excellent for small spaces and I love that you can set it to a temperature and it'll maintain that, swithching itself on and off as necessary. The remote is a handy addition too and I love that it sits neatly on top of the machine.
Being fan based heating and cooling I do notice an increase to the electricity bill when used heavily during the winter but it heats nice and fast.
Better still will be the AM07 that has the Quiet Mark.
Best heater – Love this heater/fan, does a great job at heating my bedroom and has pretty good heat output, fan is very loud on anything above 5 though but find I don't even need it on the highest fan speed, awesome bladeless technology, got on sale for $400 so quite a bit for a heater but worth it Show details
This is a terrible noisy and useless product – I bought this dyson am05 for 2years, I have only tried two times and than just put in storage and don't want to use at all due to the noise... I regret that I didn't return it during the returning permission date. Now I have to keep it like I am keeping a rubbish in my storage. I can't throw it to the rubbish bin because it's a very expensive fan which I bought ever. But very disappoint this is a very useless product. Show details

Excellent product – Excellent product for small areas. Good air flow distribution. A bit noisy at high speed if you plan to have it on at night. Waste of money – The product is unfortunately boarding on useless, the fan is overly load without cooling or feeling refreshing and does nothing to help in the heat. A $10 fan from bunnings has a lot more efficency. Dyson dont do returns if the products are touched so be wary! Unfortunately from the AM05 Dyson are turning into a cheap electronics company high a huge price tag. Show details
Complete waste of money – Heating works reasonably well (not value for money but reasonably well) but 'cooling' function is disgraceful for the price. Overly noisy and totally ineffective in cooling a room. Bought a $15 fan from Target that works much better. My first Dyson purchase and extremely disappointed, will never buy Dyson again. Heats well, cooling part is terrible – We rationalised spending this extra cash that it would replace our heaters and fans and do a much better job. Well, it's good for hearing, absolutely rubbish for cooling - worse then a $20 supermarket fan. If I could go back I wouldn't have bought it. Complete waste of money. Show details
totally replaced the traditional fans – Yes it was very expensive, but it has been one of our best purchases. Bit noisier than a traditional fan, but we get used to it pretty soon. Air blown out is consistent and not choppy. Does not give you headaches or collect dust or fall over every second like a traditional fan. Very effective on both warm and cool settings. The biggest plus side is that it's robust and so easy to clean. Does come with a remote. Show details
Very disappointed with this product – Needed a fan for our bedroom to replace our existing fan.
