In recent weeks I have had two small breakages on my DC41. Firstly the clip which holds the dust barrel in place broke and a week or so later the ball cover on the right side fell off. It looks like the "clip" that holds it in place has deteriorated with age (about 4 years) and broken into several pieces. The vacuum cleaner still works but I am using tape to hold the barrel in place and it is more difficult to manouvre. I have been looking for spare parts but it looks like I cannot just buy the red clip but will need to get the complete barrel assembly. As yet I have seen nothing at all about the ball attachment. If anyone is able to give me some info about these problems I would appreciate it. Thanks Judy

I would contact Dyson customer support if I were you. They are very helpful. Your vac is out of warranty but they may still be able to help you. It's worth a shot. Good luck

The DC 41 upright sucks itself to the floor so hard that it is nearly impossible to push. We are using it on an industrial style carpet called Flowtex. I'm not sure if that's the correct spelling. It is a very low pile carpet. How can I adjust the suction power or adjust the head? There are two women trying to use this machine are really struggling. Sore arms shoulders and backs. Very fit and strong women! Gives you an idea of how hard this machine is to push. Please advise ASAP before I purchase a better machine.

Regards, Warren

Hi Warren. The only thing I can suggest is to contact Dyson support and they will go through some trouble shooting with you over the phone.

will they vacuum a slate floor

I don't have slate floors, but I use the Dyson to vacuum polished boards successfully. I can't think why slate would prove a problem. But turn off the rotating brushes.
