Dyson DC50 Questions & Answers
VerifiedHow much could I sell my Dyson DC50 multi floor in excellent condition for? 2023 price
I would search eBay, gumtree, Facebook marketplace, and any other site that sells second hand goods to see if you can find listings for that model of vacuum. That way you can get an idea of what they sell for and what you could possibly list yours for.

Fine dust deposited on all the surfaces in the room after vacuuming carpet? What shall I check?
Possible Reasons: 1st: How full is your container? If it’s full and needing emptied, the dust you suck up from your floors or carpets has nowhere to go so is pumped back out into the air. 2nd: if it’s not the first reason - check for blockages - eg your hose, the vacuum head, nozzle etc. as a blockage can also cause the dust to be sent back into the air. Tapping gently can make an object that’s causing a blockage fall out - otherwise using something thin and long to dislodge it- eg telescopic duster handle. 3rd: check your hose for splits or cracks. Mine developed a thin slit in the hose at the base where it fed back into the vacuum. (Although it also lost a lot of suction as well as spewed out dust, so it was an obvious problem to spot). I bought a replacement hose which was extremely simple to attach. 4th: check your filters. Depending on which filters, they may need washed or changed. I hope this helps.
Thanks for all your advice. Had done all except checking the hose for cracks or splits. Will check the hose now. Many thanks for your time....

should my dyson DC50 be sucking through hose when put in the upright position? It stops as soon as hoover is put in reclining position and hoovering normally
Yes - it is how you change from normal vacuum cleaning to using the accessories such as the hoses.
When the machine is reclined to use the machine to clean your floors, the airflow is diverted from the hose and wand on the back of the machine to the cleanerhead. This is then restored to the hose and wand when the machine is stood back up.
We hope this helps, however our Dyson Experts are available via auaskdyson@dyson.com and happy to help.

where is the on/off button?
The power button is red and located just above the cyclone of the machine, below the main grey handle. You can see this in action here: external link We hope this helps, however if we can assist further our Dyson Experts are available via auaskdyson@dyson.com and happy to help.
The DC50 will no longer stand upright and lock the head. Pushing the rear wheels down enables to stand upright but doe not lock in place?
Exactly the same happened to our Dyson. Our machine was only just out of warranty and Dyson , as they should have, fixed the vacuum for us free of charge. However it is only a matter of time before it will happen again due to poor design. Too many moving parts. We bought a $49 Kmart vacuum that does the job ok, not as good as the Dyson , but a lot cheaper. The cleaning head on our Dyson was next to fail. If your Dyson is out of warranty still contact them and ask for it to be fixed. Dyson do give great customer service bit need to come up with a better design vac
Sorry I can't answer your problem. I have used mine almost every day since I bought it about 3 years ago and everything works like it was just out of the box. The secret may be that I clean mine out at lease once a month.
If your machine isn't standing up and locking into position, this can often indicate a blockage within the machine. This can cause the changeover hose to not be able to switch over like it should. We encourage running through the checkpoints shown in this video: external link (please note, while the handle and wand of your machine are slightly different, the process will be the same after removed).
These should help, however if we can assist further, our Dyson Experts are available via auaskdyson@dyson.com and happy to assist further.
Thank you
What does the button with the figure 8 on next to the on button do?. Thanks
I'm sorry but I have no idea. It just clicks on & off but nothing seems to happen. I have just spent 30 minutes on the NET trying to find out but although I love my Dyson DC50, I think their website is probably the worse I have ever seen. I just can't find the answer to your question. Michael
This button is the brushbar control button. For delicate floor surfaces, you can press this button to turn the brushbar off. You can see this in action here: external link We hope this helps, however our Dyson Experts are available via auaskdyson@dyson.com if we can assist further.
Is there another attachment for the hose as this doesn't appear to pick up animal fur very well and gets blocked all the time, I don't think the Suction is great either. via the hose as the end is flat
Hi Lindsay, I am sorry but I can't help you. I don't know of any attachment for a DC50 which will pick up animal fur. Perhaps you should ask a Dyson dealer, or go onto the Dyson Web Site. I do know that Dyson do make a vacuum specifically for animal hair & fur. Regards, Michael
My answer is to get rid of the dyson . go to kmart and buy a vacuum for $47 .

My brush is turning and there is suction but the dirt is not making it into the container. It also sounds strange. I didn’t see any obvious clogs in the hoses. I just ordered new filters but wondered if anyone else had any other ideas?
Thanks!

Hi there, I have just had my dyson dc50 serviced at my local shop, who I have used for nearly 20 years, and now I am having problems when using it on carpets. Have never had this problem, and the shop has had it back, stripped it down, reassembled, and shown me it working in their shop. The carpet in the shop is not as thick as mine, but when I get it home it is hard to push. Hopefully you might be able to assist me. Please. Hoping for help. Lynne. Bournemouth.

Have contacted Dyson in the UK and they have solved the problem over the phone. The base head was the problem, and as it was under warranty, they have sent me a new one and all is good.
My DC50 Animal just lost *almost* all suction. It was working but it clogged. So I went to remove the clog and decided to change the brush bar while I was at it. I did both successfully. Went to use it and nothing. If I unlock it from upright the roller works, so it has power and when I check the hose there is the tiniest amount of suction I can barely feel. There is no noise either. What can I do? There are no other clogs or debri.
