I have an ecopot which I have used a couple of times and brought from a camp caravan show and just got it out to use and the base is coming away. What do I do?

Sue

We on on the road in our caravan full-time. Recently purchased an eco pot at the caravan show on the gold coast. Have used it twice, love the meals and the quantity is great for the two of us. We can normally get 2 meals from one recipe but I'm having trouble with heat. When we serve our meals they are only warm not hot. Am I doing something wrong?

I was told the recipes are for 2 people, but I am wondering if this is correct. They seem very small portions, especially feeding my husband and me

We use our eco pot when travelling in our caravan very good but find that doesn’t keep as hot as claimed but portions are large and plenty for two even three or four. The pot can be used for cooking on the hot plate also , happy with our eocpot and would recommend this product there is a 12 volt element for reheating but have not used this feature we just put it on the hot plate for a few minutes and the meal is ready saves a lot of time especially when travelling. Hope this is helpful regards Mark

I know I'm straying from question re quantity for 2 but I think it's worth saying that while I enjoy recipes that accompanied eco pot I regularly use it to cook quantity that I know for my family of 4. Example recently I cooked nearly 2 kilos of beef to make a beef and red wine casserole. I browned meat added other ingredients and brought to a high simmer. Once I knew it was almost cooked I left on moderate simmer for exactly 20 minutes. 3 hrs later in the eco pot the meal is ready and piping hot. Sometimes I've left it for 4+ hours and still very hot and cooked perfectly. Hope this helps.

I have just brought a second hand, used twice eco pot. I decided to try it out straight away and did a recipe from the book with a piece of beef, red wine and mushroom soup. The meat was 1 kg, long and thin and once seared, fitted into the larger pot easily. Then I put a cup of rice and water in the smaller container and put them in the outer container. Problem now is the lid kept coming open and I had to take the smaller pot out, even though it wasn’t touching the food below it. Anyone else experienced this? Thanks

i would like to cook barley straight from the pack. the slow cooker recipe is to slow cook for seven hours - this is without the pre cooking required with the eco pot. If i use the electricity with the eco pot, can i cook without pre cooking and leave for seven hours?

Just Received my Ecopot looking great Recipies look great. Just 1 question Ive read threw the book I can not find when you need to use the 12v plug are you suppose to heat the outer pot first?

Jenny S
Jenny S

Karen, I didn't purchase the ecopot with the 12V plug - but I'm sure someone out there has and will reply. But in the meantime, I did look into buying one and from what I can understand you plug in your ecopot around the 7 hour mark and this will heat the inner pot to boiling again. So there is no chance of the temperature dropping below the point where it can cause food poisoning. Hope that helps.

Do the inner pot/s come with lids of their own, or only the main outer lid??

Matt0707
Matt0707

The standard pack comes with 1 lid, which fits both. Whether you're using just the large pot on its own or both pots (where you place the small pot in the large pot) you only put lid on top. I bought mine on tvsn. They have slightly different offers each time they run the promotion. Eg. There's a steam pot available to buy separately but is sometimes offered as part of the bundle.

Why after 7 hours is the stew only warm, the meat chewy and 'the apple' in my bread and butter pudding on the raw side. I purchased from TVSN and also received an ecoheatslimline stove. I boiled the oxtail stew for 15 minutes as the recipe advised and then put the bread and button pudding on top with the lid - and simmered for 15 minutes at 100 degrees C -as per the instructions. I don't feel like using it any more as the meals are so disappointing - does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Jenny, Sorry I can't offer any help regarding the recipes as mine was never used, due to the unit being faulty. However, friends who have one have had the same problem, the food was either cold or uncooked. We tried a recipe three times and wasted the food each time. Try contacting the company you purchased it from, but doubting they will be very helpful.

Good luck, thinking we both purchased an expensive lemon.

Thank you for your reply - strangely enough this makes me feel better. I thought it was me . Living in the territory - we can't even consider eating luke warm food. I did contact the company and they suggested filling the large pan with boiling water up to a 3/4 mark and leaving it for 12 hours. Which I did. 12 hours later the temp was 130 degrees and hot if not boiling - so this confused me even further. It's too late to return it - but I can review it honestly on TVSN.

I've had mine for about a year and it's worked pretty much every time. I don't listen to the suggestion of 15mins though. Especially if I'm using cheaper, tougher cuts of meat. Once the liquid comes to the boil, I turn down to a simmer with lid on for 20-30 minutes, then place into the thermal pot and close. That ensures the meat has had a good head start at softening. And even if leaving just the minimum of 3 hours its delish. Leave it all arvo and have for tea, melt in the mouth. And the carrots and spuds still have texture and bite. Amazing! I've not tried desserts so can't comment. And I've only cooked with both pots a couple of times, when I've had a meat dish in the bottom and some corn on the cob and veg in the top pot. Both times everything cooked perfectly as well. That's my experience anyway. So my only tip would be to simmer longer than 15 min AFTER its come to a boil and simmer with the lid on. Hope you don't give up on it.

Thank you for writing this. I didn't get around to giving it that extra try and boiling the meal for longer as I returned it to TVSN when I discovered I was still within the 30 days trial period . So I may not have given it a fair go. However, I purchased it so I could prepare a complete dinner (main and desert) for my adult kids and their toddler to pick up every night after work. Because both times the food was luke warm it put us all off completely. I only have a small kitchen and just didn't have enough room to keep the bundle if I was never going to use it - so I had to return it to TVSN for a $100 postage fee.
