Worn out too soon – Was a great machine for three years but today won't heat up. I use it for one coffee a day some times more for visitors.. I expect my appliances to last longer or is this just another 'thing' in the throw away society. I might as well just buy a cheapy from Coles or woolies. Show details
Great little machine – I'm not sure how many people had issues with their machines, or just the few on here. I've had mine for 3 years and it's still going strong. The machine and the pods are more than cheaper versions, but you can taste why. I'm a bit of a coffee snob, and no other pod machine I've tried has come close to this one. Show details
When it worked it was OK - but the durability of this appliance is poor – I understand the Electrolux ELM5400S is not an industrial machine. Industrial coffee machines can make dozens to hundred of cups of coffee a day. Every day. However this appliance which was purchased in 2014 by my son as a Mother's Day gift was lucky to make 2 or 3 cups of coffee a week! Within the first couple of years the plastic pipe which… Read more
allows steam to froth the milk broke at the base. It was a flimsy design which was always going to break. Never mind as the machine was still able to heat and froth the milk without this pipe. So we persevered.
Then about the third year mark the machine started to accumulate more water in tray at the base of the machine than what ended up in the coffee cup! This is a common problem with this model as YouTube and Google will reveal other customers who have experienced the same problem. This meant the button to fill the coffee cup had to be pressed several times to fill one cup. Again we persevered.
Now the milk frother will no longer heat or froth the milk. So just before this review was written the Electrolux ELM5400S has been thrown into the rubbish bin. Six years of service of which more than half of it's life has been problematic.
We expected better.
Although this product is discontinued and we have thrown away our appliance, as this review is a… Read more

Excellent but not ecological – I really enjoy making coffee with my Electrolux Lavazza Modo Mio. I can memorize the amount of coffee (short and long black) and make my plant based milk frothy. It is a bit noisy but I am accustomed now and I highly recommend it. The down side is the capsule. I after I make about 10 coffees I open them one by one to be able to recycle. ELM5400MR Show details
perfect while it lasted – It made the best home coffee you could probably get from an automated machine. It used to leak a little into the tray but it wasnt major. Mine worked for almost 3 years before it stopped working completely .I would have awarded 5 stars if it was still working today because it was that good. Show details
Love the machine, can't believe it's died on me – I love this machine, was given it as a mothers day gift 2 years ago. Out of the blue it has started leaking water all over bench top. It doesn't get moved so no it wasn't dropped or anything. On inspection, can't seem to locate any cracked or hole etc. It's frustrating I have to go back to aldi coffee as I don't have 500 for a new machine. I have model ELM5400MR.

So much money....so little value – Lovely Lavazza coffee, easy to use and clean but such POOR quality components apparently. Initially I was happy with this machine as it made a nice coffee and looked good on the bench, especially as it cost a lot more than some other brands that do the same thing. Then 2 or 3 weeks past the warranty date, it began to leak water everywhere. I… Read more
paid about $90 to fix what I thought then was a pump. This week, you guessed it, 2 weeks out of warranty of the replaced part, it’s done exactly the same thing again! No way am I spending any more on this product. I am so disappointed. I have had 2 Electrolux vacuum cleaners, an oven and the coffee machine and every one has had an issue just out of warranty. I’m worried too as I recommended 2 of these items to someone else and she’s holding her breath!!

Great to begin with but died far too young – Like so many reviews for this unit it was great while it lasted, which wasn't long enough. It received minimal use (i.e. about 4 coffees per week) and yet started flooding excessively at the 2.5 year mark. No response received from my email to Electrolux customer 'service' for advice and so the unit went out with the hard rubbish collection. Never again Electrolux. Show details
bad machine – It makes good coffee not very hot great milk frothing cup. NIce coffee, poor life span – Purchased 4 years ago, have used a max of 30 times as I myself don't drink coffee. only used when I had visitors. I had it sit in the cupboard for 6 months. I went out and spent $50 on pods for it, tried to use it and the pump turns on but no water comes out at all. very disappointing. the machine has had an easy life with rare usage. Show details
Glad they are discontinued – The machine makes a good coffee but has been frought with manufacturing issues. Such as, not lasting over 3 years, excess water reservoir too small, the pump does not turn off if there's no water running through it. The pods are often difficult to purchase expensive. I use nespresso at work and it's a much better brand and machine with better… Read more
pod choices. Now my machine doesn't work and the serviceman tells me he doesn't know what caused it without me bringing it in and could be up to $300 to repair. What a joke. I've had breville and sunbeam coffee makers and both lasted years and I ended up giving them away when I upgraded.
Won't be buying Electrolux again – We originally bought this coffee machine from Myers a couple years ago. We used it a handful of times but then put it into storage as my mother received an Aldi coffee machine which she preferred over the Lavazza machine. After years of service from the Aldi coffee machine she just wasn't performing like she used to so we decided to lay the old… Read more
girl to rest.
It was then we decided to go back to the Lavazza machine however, the water is now struggling to get through the machine. Literally, a few drops of coffee come through the other end.
I emailed Lavazza asking if they know of the problem and if so if they can send me some tips on how to fix it or any type of assistance. They replied instantly and stated i need to email Electrolux for help and provided their details.
I emailed Electrolux and but received no reply. After a week Ii emailed again asking for any type of assistance, even a reply. Still nothing. So i emailed Lavazza again who replied instantly (great customer service there guys, kudos). Lavazz then forwarded my email to Electrolux asking them to assist me... still nothing of Electrolux.
I've given up so we've decided this coffee machine is now nothing more than an expensive paperweight and thus we have bought a Caffitaly machine instead.
I strongly suggest looking elsewhere for a coffee machine. Our Aldi machine outlasted this one by a large margin, which was half the price. Go figure.
Would never ever have one of these again I got one as a wedding present and can't take back as I don – Would never own one of these again, I received one as a gift late last year and have used it like 5 times, I can't take back as no reciept and don't speak to the person who gave to me, leaks and doesn't heat milk poor machine should have been recalled by the looks of it not happy at all Show details

Died after 3 years – Machine wouldn't switch on today. Completely dead all of a sudden. Pretty crappy considering the original price compared with some other cheaper brands. I expected better longevity. It didn't get used every day and has never been moved from its spot so there's no chance of wear and tear. Really disappointed. Show details
swimming pool on benchtop! – Both my machine and my parents machine started leaking water all over the bench when out of warranty. More water on the bench than on the cup. Would not purchase another Electrolux coffee machine or recommend them to anyone as I think these machines are not fit for purpose! A lot of money "down the drain" Show details
Mothers day pressy that stopped working – I was given this Machine by my children as a mothers day present. very least repaired. I dont have a receipt as it was a gift and my kids kept the receipt for some time but disgarded it a few months ago.
worst machine ever – I bought this machine and had to take it back as it leaked all over the worktop when used. The shop exchanged this one for a brand new one as it was less than 1 month old and it is just 12 months old now and the milk frother has stopped working . The machine has had very little use in the time we have had it and for the cost I am not happy at all.… Read more

Disappointment – I have purchased two of these coffee makers over the past 3 years. Make a great coffee but they leak extremely badly after a while. The first machine we had fixed under warranty and when it leaked again we bought a new one. This one lasted 1 yr. Enough is enough. Bought a more expensive coffee machine but not electrolux!
tasty coffee but seems to stop shott – Coffee tastes great as I dont use dairy trying to find milk option to taste. Thought machine was not working properly as small amount of coffee produced have to repress button to go again. This happens with both cappuccino and latte is this a normal amount. Anyone have ideas for alternate milks have tried soy almond and almond and coconut.
Quality doesn't matter – Happy with all the above but the machine make more water than coffee which is a waste of my pods. On reading more review I have come to the conclusion that the machines are faulty and Electrolux don"t want to help. As I said my money was good but the service and the machines are not.Saddens me that such a large company won't fix this problem.

Good while lasted – I have been enjoying Lavazza coffee for years, but , unfortunately , the choices are very limited when it comes to buying a coffee machine compatible with their pods. This unit only lasted 2 years which is unacceptable in my opinion for something that cost 300 dollars. There are two major issues, a water leak and an incredibly noisy compressor.… Read more
I have been using recommended descaling solutions at least every 6 months that helped to solve those problems to some degree, but eventually the machine died on me.
Do not buy this machine – Do not buy this machine or any product from Electrolux. Machine failed twice in 2 years and we had to replace the milk frother once. Second time it failed we used a non Electrolux repair company who said it was uneconomical to repair. Despite Electrolux accepting the word of the non-electrolux repairer Electrolux declined to replace it or help us out at all. Very poor quality product and poor customer service.

Not Happy – Yes yes and yes to the three questions but I too have a water leak issue. This is my second machine in two years as I'm still waiting on a part which I paid your service centre on south rd for in around February and still haven't heard from him. Bought another Maxine while waiting. This one makes cold coffee now and leaks water everywhere.

Love the machine, but water leak after 18 months – I love this machine, but as with all the other reviews, it is obviously just not well made. It had to go back in the first few months as the pod thing wasn't working properly. Then a few months ago, it kept going off when I tried to froth the milk, now it uses heaps of water to make the coffee and cuts out the power. It is now out of warranty,… Read more
but only 18 months old. I know people who have nespresso machines which have lasted years, and with a similar price point, it would make sense to get one of those, but I like the lavazza coffee. I really think that customers are being short changed here and Electrolux should repair the machines or provide replacement machines if these faults have now been rectified. I would love to recommend it to others because of the great tasting coffee, but cannot due to the poor quality of the machine.

Electrolux is just ridiculous in their customer service – Got this machine as a x'mas present, less than 6 months already bought it in to be repaired twice, each time it is there it is between 6-8 weeks. July 5th 2016 Update:
Got a replacement unit from electrolux, the original agreement was an upgrade to the current model, but they went back on their word and told me i would have to wait longer if i wanted an upgrade, at that point, i have already waited 4 months.
This replacement unit has the same issue as before, water leakage, but this time the milk frother actually suck milk into the unit, don't know why, i thought it was suppose to dispense steam into the milk frother. I had called electrolux but was ignored.

need to refill the tank for one cup – This is my third machine, first one being the original lavazza that cost me 499.00. it was serviced under warranty and then replaced by the Electrolux model. Very average – This machine played up then came good many times. Suddenly 1 month out of warranty it stops pouring coffee completely just uses the whole container of water straight into the drip tray. Electrolux offered no support other than giving me two companies to call for service neither of which answered there phones. wasted $240 on this faulty machine not impressed at all
Was good while it lasted – True that this machine gives great tasting coffee... but is it worth the hassle?!! I have had my machine for 4-5years. I haven't had to replace anything (yet) but the I have had to re-callibrate the machine multiple times as it decides to reset itself to making around 20mls of coffee or less... It wastes A HUGE AMOUNT OF WATER!!! It is… Read more

I love it! – I was browsing for coffee machines when I came across this one. An Electrolux salesman was offering free coffee samples to taste the difference, and what a difference! just like the ones you pay $4,50 in the city. The milk frother combines steam and whipping, giving the milk a nice silky finish (full cream). Even fat free milk works okay.
The only thing I am not so sure about is sometimes the pods get stuck and for some reason it fills the tray with so much water even before the coffee is made. Is this normal Elextrolux?
milk frother always breaking – The milk frother is always breaking at different points but are connected and have to replace the whole lid assembly as a result. Some places charge $21 for part and $20 for postage, others $43 for part & no postage.......gets a little expensive after a while. BTW the part no is 4055206868 - Lid Assembly.......if you have the same problem.
not quite right... Stick to better gifts – As a teacher and father with young children I have found a daily coffee or three a regularly need in my life and I had resorted to purchasing a Woolworths machine to have my caffeine hit readily available at work. Some days I would just take the coffe black. In November of last year I was gifted a new Electrolux coffee machine as an end of year… Read more
thank you gift.
I was excited and pumped. I thought you beauty an upgrade. Sadly the Lavazza coffee has a unique taste and the complementary pack really didn't inspire me...
Then there is the heighten pod price and limited availability issue...
The main detraction is the boiled milk and iron flavoured milk that the nifty frothier has.. Regardless of milk used...
The machine itself looks nice and seems to work user friendly well..
But in January after daily used and accepting sub par coffee flavour the capsules intake system started failing and now the pods don't puncture properly and essentially this's $250 is a useless paper weight!!!
I want a machine that works... After wasting $40 - $80 on pods trying to make it work it leaks water and fails to produce a coffee... Trying to make the leaver work has proved extremelly frustrating and this machine has me wishing I had a Nespresso instead... Only wish I could somehow swap it to a unit that works and is what I want... For a free gift the 120-200 I spent on pods I think the Nespresso or even Woolworths is a far superior and price competitive product.
I would avoid this unit for numerous reasons.
Any thought on getting it switched to what I want?
A working coffe machine?
thankfully we did prestart with Ventura Homes recently and it looks like they gift Nespresso machines at completion....
Only have to wait 9-12 months for a coffee
Turned it on for the "1st TIME" after we bought it and it wouldn't work - no water coming through – We have had the previous amodo mio premium by saeco for about 5 years. When we moved to Singapore in 2012 we took our coffee machine with us, and discovered you can't buy these capsules in Singapore. So every couple of months we would order the the capsules online, get it sent to my mum in Australia, and then she would send it to us in Singapore,… Read more
and we just love the coffee so much. We have been doing this for over 3 years now. So, it recently stopped working, so we thought we would buy another one as we love the coffee so much.
So when my husband was in Sydney last week, he bought a new one on Saturday 7th February 2015, on Sunday 8th February after my husband arrived back in Singapore the following night, we tried to use the machine for the 1st time. (It was not transported on the plane with the luggage underneath, it was in the cabin on the plane).
So after turning it on and completing the "Get Started" section of the manual where you place a glass under the coffee spout and run the fresh water through the coffee spout by pressing the Espresso Lungo button, NOTHING HAPPENED. NO WATER CAME OUT. We have now turned it off several times and tried again, checked the water holder is in place properly, tested all the buttons (frother works) but still no water coming out.
My problem after owning for 1 day and buying from Australia,is how can I get get this problem rectified in Singapore.
Would hope to get authorisation from Australia to have this fixed in Singapore.
Very very, dissappointed!!!!!!!!!!

Great tasting coffee from sub-standard machine – Our machine is 6 months old and recurrent problems are representing. A demonstration of the machine outside Myer Doncaster persuaded us to replace our perfectly functional Aldi machine with the Electrolux ELM5400, because the coffee taste was so much better. Our first machine was replaced by Myer because of faults that occurred within 30 days of… Read more
purchase.
The faults recurred to the second machine within 3 months. Myer (very courteously) advised me to call Lavazza (very courteous service) who advised me to call Elecrolux (very off-handed service) who told me to take the machine to the repairer. I must have spoken to the same person mentioned by Nigel Howard above.
All Appliance Repairs in Heidleberg is my local repairer. I recall that it took 2 weeks or so for the repair turnaround. The Aldi machine worked perfectly in the interim. Although the coffee isn't as good, no grounds flow into the cup as happens with the Lavazza capsules.
Within 6 weeks or so I returned the machine again because of poor performance and as I recall the "brewer" section was replaced. It performed reasonably for another 6 weeks or 2 months but the same problems are occurring. Although I am uncertain about when similar faults have presented the following is a list of the range of issues that have occurred in the 7 months since the original machine was purchased.
1. Holes were not properly punched in the capsules. Only one side of the capsule was penetrated by the probes. Note: This may have been a "handling problem" caused by capsules not falling through to the collector when the lever is raised. The fact that the capsules hang up is a design fault. If undetected, and another capsule is inserted, they become jammed against each other and the plunger may have bent under the load imposed by having more than one capsule in the chamber at a time. One has to look and listen carefully to ensure a spent capsule has fallen away and to assist it if it hasn't.
2. The seals between the capsule and the plunger tend to leak water into the drip tray when the brew is being dispensed.
3. Water also runs into the drip tray when the frother is being operated.
4. Water drips from the spout after coffee is brewed, especially when more than one cup is brewed at a time.
5. Coffee grounds are deposited in the cup whenever coffee is brewed. this trait increases over time. Note: This characteristic may be the reason for increasing amounts of water to bypass the capsule as mentioned in 2 above. The manual explains this occurrence may be caused by blockage of the spout but the poor design of the capsules seems to be the cause. The Aldi capsules have an internal filter that prevents grounds from spilling out. The Lavazza capsules have no such filter.
6. The magnetic drive for the frother agitator rattled alarmingly after cleaning because the collar that holds it in place was raised too far, leaving insufficient clearance for the attachment to connect properly, when I reassembled it. There is a locating detent for the collar and it works well when positioned properly but it is another design fault that can trap the unwary.
7. The manual instructs one to "clean the coffee spout" when flow is reduced when brewing, as in 5 above, but there are no instructions on HOW to clean the spout. A pipe cleaner might do the trick but I don't smoke a pipe!
Overall, the machine performs reasonably for a short period when new or following repair but performance rapidly deteriorates over a short period of time.
As they say in the classics, "It shouldn't be this hard."
