Rude drop off/pick up guy
Moved into a house that had an Elgas bottle left from previous renters. One day a few months later, without notice nor a knock on the door some 'man' from Elgas just walked into our backyard to pick up the gas bottle. PROBLEM being we have large dogs who do NOT like strangers. Man had in ear phones and must not have heard the barking but proceeded to open our backyard gate (which has WARNING signs which he ignored) My son who had difficulty walking after surgery (just learning to walk again) heard the dogs and tried to race out when he heard th...e gate open. Lucky son got there in time to call the dogs. Son called out to the man to alert him, but he did not hear him (ear phones). How rude to just walk into someone's yard without even knocking at the door or letting anyone know you are there. How rude to be wearing ear phones and ignoring potential customers, as we needed to replace the gas bottle but obviously were not going to go through a company with such rude and ignorant - staff.
After getting rid of elgas
Last year i am still stuck
with the bottle i rang to arrange pick up and was told to dump on nature strip
What a disgrace this company is as is the woman who answers their phone at woodend
Left in the lurch -
Cannot believe any company can be this poor at customer service. Had 2 large Gas bottles delivered 3 years ago and on second change over they delivered a commercial bottle that potentially could have blown us and our house to bits!! Resolved eventually. Now about to move, house sold, so asked to have both bottles picked up on Wednesday 11th Nov the day we move out. Came home this afternoon Friday 06 Nov both bottles gone - cant cook for the next 5 nites!!! seriously ???and they are going to charge us a call out fee of $83.00 on top of that!!!....This is as bad as customer service gets. New owners have organised another company -same bottle- $116.00. We are paying $166.00 now with constant price rises every delivery- nearly 50% more. Never again would use or recommend Elgas to anyone. Appalling service - not even worth 1 star. This company just doesnt care!! Disgruntled - Sunshine Coast Qld
Would give zero stars if possible
UPDATE I complained on their site and got a call from a lovely woman who resolved the situation. I suppose bad service can happen anywhere but they seem very keen to keep their good name and resolve things.
Fradulent, deceptive salespeople. Gave me price on gas bottle and delivered promptly. Then out of nowhere an 'annual service fee' arrives... what is this? I called them, it's for 'servicing and maintenance' do you mean screwing the bottle in? Nearly $100? I need to know who to call to cancel this and tell them to take their bottles away. Loads of similar stories when I posted on FB. Seems they've been making money doing this for a while. Disgusting.
NOT COMPETITIVE AS CLAIMED
In November 2019 an annual service charge per bottle was introduced. This added $33 To the price of each bottle that year. We have not used as much gas as we expected & are about to be charged the annual service fee on each bottle again with no 'service' for the fee. No wonder Elgas recommends that people always have 2 bottles on hand, extra money for nothing. Since the change of the local agents being called directly, with all calls to 131161 there has been a substantial decrease in service. Don't recommend Elgas & will be going to all electric as it is cheaper.
Bloody appalling we'd say
We run a small business (café) and have had a consistent and a pleasant experience with Elgas for 3 years. However, within the last 12 months, Elgas starts taking a dirt. We've had missed deliveries on numerous occasions and even had them telling us they can no longer do delivery to our site due to OHS ( confused because they've been doing it for the past 3 years so not sure what's changed?). But then we were able to overcome that by rearranging the delivery area.
Fast forward to today, placed 3 x 45kg cylinders and a text say would be deliver...

Didn't deliver gas on time, didn't do after hours, leak existed that they refused to acknolwedge
Had gas through them, they missed a delivery window, didn't ring back any other day. When I had time to call on the weekend they said they don't do non-standard deliveries.
On monday they said we would have to pay an emergency fee to have same day delivery despite the delivery being over 5 days late.
There was a gas leakage through the main fitting that was never checked or tightened by them, and they refused to admit there was a problem despite going through a bottle every 3 weeks.
Horrible company with dangerous practices.
Terrible company do not deal with them
rude customer service, don't care if you mark a gas delivery as urgent they will take over a week to deliver. And they change delivery days by 3 days or more and don't bother to tell you. $30 more expensive per bottle than competitors and competitors deliver in 2 days.
Will charge an annual fee for nothing
Elgas charge you to initially purchase gas bottle/gas and the each year will charge you a fee for using their product. So 2x gas bottles 2x service fees, no matter how much gas was used. So you can still have 1 3/4 gas bottles full of gas Elgas will automatically charge you 2x service call fees for nothing. No they don’t turn up and test anything, I asked it is a fee charged just to use their products. Isn’t this called customer service by agreeing to purchase their product to start with?
Many a conversation held with Elgas manager, typical sal...
I've found Elgas to be really great and reliable.
I just had two Elgas guys come and change my old Gas tanks in Warburton, which they swap every 10-15 years.
I was pre communicated to that they were coming, which I requested, so I knew they were coming.
They really did an excellent job, trying to get the tanks up the big steep driveway.
Really great attitude, both of them, and hardworking! They deserve a big raise! I wanted to include photos.
I'm. Always really impressed with Elgas service, including the returned phone enquiry service!
Price rip-off on long term customers
I've been a rural Elgas bottled gas customer for 17 years.
I've just discovered Elgas' interpretation of "Valued Customer" is about how much "Value" they can squeeze from a "Customer" rather than how much they appreciated my patronage.
I've recently accepted a per litre gas price by a local supplier that's half that charged by Elgas.
In my case this translates to a saving of around $600 per year.
Check your bill and shop around !
one of my gas bottle was empty and I requested them to refill in june and no one came and pressurized me for payment. they charged me 129$ including late payment 11$ for gas bottle that was never deliver to me . i called them and they said they will check with delivery driver and will update me which was never done and now my both bottles are empty and and they says they cant do any thing...very bed customer service and cheaters..
Disgusting customer service , taking money from account 300$ without warning
These people are horrible !!!! The Tamworth branch, discusting customer service , stole money from my account 300$ , with no warning , no email NOTHING , I WOULD NOT recommend elgas to my worst enemy !! Took whole gas bottle from my house after i moved , with no reimbursements!! Compleate liars , dont know how they sleep at night ..
Elgas is the most disgusting company
After being a customer of 7 years suddenly my gas was not being delivered. When I questioned I was told that it was not safe fir the delivery man (in other words was too lazy to) so I was told an emergency bottle was dropped off (it wasn’t) abs I have elderly at rush people living on the property. Was told there would be a site visit from managers. This did happen but never heard from them even after trying to get hold of them. Finally after a rude email I sent they came back saying they can’t deliver gas to me (after being a customer of 7 years). I’ve now run out of gas abs have at risk elderly living with me. Utterly disgusted

Left to freeze in winter
Elgas call themselves reliable. Well that is no longer the case. For two years I have had reliable service, being able to get a new exchange bottle delivered and hooked up before my second bottle ran out. That is no longer the case!
After waiting for ten days for a replacement bottle (and with only a few days left before I run out and have no heating or hot water at all) I was told to organise my own exchange bottle from a reseller. They refused to switch my order to URGENT and told me they would not deliver for at least another ten days!! They...
Elgas are supposed to monitor our gas usage and refill our tanks regularly (every 8 weeks) so that we never run out of gas. However, we almost ran out of gas at the end of March after they postponed our scheduled refill without notice. They finally came to refill our tanks just in the nick of time on 1st April, but only filled one tank (why?). It is now the 13th July - more than 14 weeks later - and today we completely ran out out of gas. Without hot water, I could not have a shower and therefore I could not go to work. I don't get paid if I d...on't go to work so I lost a day's pay which I am not at all happy about! When I called them, they blamed it on Covid. Yeah, right. More like incompetence!! This not how they should be treating their customers, especially during winter. If you don't like having cold showers, I would recommend you find another gas supplier. Which is exactly what I will be doing.
Twice now they have removed & replaced the bottle we are still using instead of taking the empty one not in use! The first time I complained they were rude to me and said it was a contractor and out of their hands. My husband will call this time and I am hoping they will listen to him. We still had half a bottle left!!! Will be taking this further now as this seems very dodgy indeed. I do not trust these people at all!
Have had a really good run with El gas until you need some customer service. Today we have tried to contact Elgas only to be greeted with terrible communication skills and seem to be deliberately trying to make the whole process difficult. Pronouncing the street, suburb and my name like a child reading a book for the first time, Yes it was 4:45pm but still.... we have ordered another 45kg gas bottle as one one just about to empty, ( we like to keep both full if we can) two weeks in and I’m starting in a cold shower. El gas have removed our full...bottle and replaced it with a full bottle! Instead of the low or empty bottle.! Trying to explain this to someone that doesn’t care and then telling me I have a gas leak and I will still have to pay for it! Meanwhile have paid a gas plumber to come and check for leaks and we have none!, considering we are paying more for Elgas than any other company didn’t bother me until now, we will be changing companies if this isn’t resolved in the next few days. I will try again tomorrow and hopefully this time I won’t just get shrugged off... the frustration of this experience has prompted this review.
Questions & Answers
Is it true that changeover bottles are not filled completely?
Peter, I cannot answer your question as exchange 45kg cylinders are filled by weight.
My only suggestion would be to pour boiling water slowly over a "Full" cylinder and then feel the difference in temperature of the cylinder. The steel will be cooler at the liquid gas level and warmer at the vapor level.
This would give you an idea if done on a few "Full" cylinders and can be used as an indication of how much liquid gas remaining in a cylinder. Regards, MM
If that’s true it would suggest that they are filled until the scale reads a certain weight and then the filling process is stopped. I find that if I get mine refilled at a filling station they are heavier. So that is why for the same price you get more gas when you have them refilled while you watch. Would this then be the same with large bottles at home. Should I have them refilled by a tanker instead of getting a replacement? Only problem there is I have to rent 2 bottles which then costs more.
Do i have to pay up front for my gas?
Dear Linda G,
Depending on your account set up yes, upfront payment may be required. For the best answer for your personal situation it is best to call 131 161 and you will be connected to your local branch.
