tank was not operating correctly from the start, and instead of taking responsibility, AGS repeatedly delayed, avoided action, and shifted blame. As a customer, this was extremely disappointing. Fortunately, the Emerald team stepped in and took ownership of the situation. Their support was outstanding. They arranged for a troubleshooting technician to inspect the system, organised a replacement tank, and coordinated a proper re‑installation. Their communication, professionalism, and willingness to resolve the issue made all the difference. Now that the new tank is installed, the system works perfectly. It runs very quietly, heats water efficiently, and performs exactly as advertised. The mobile app is simple to use and provides helpful monitoring of water temperature and tank status. The Boost function is especially convenient — one tap in the app gives a fast heat‑up when needed. I am genuinely grateful for Emerald’s product warranty and the technical support they provided during a difficult time. Without their intervention, I would not have received the working product I paid for. Their commitment to customer care deserves recognition. Overall, the Emerald 270L heat pump is an excellent unit, and the Emerald team has proven they stand behind their product.

A surprisingly good heat pump water heater – I have had a positive experience from day 1. The installation crew did a fantastic job and the job site was left clean and tidy. EE-HWS-A1-270E is one of the most energy efficient all-in-one heat pumps available on the market, even more efficient than many split systems. Warranty is better than most other heat pump brands, being 5 years on the tank, 5 years on the pump unit, and a 2 year labour warranty.

Though the old Rheem unit wasn’t too noisy, the Emerald is quieter, and barely audible when run in “Silent Mode”. It also draws less power than the old Rheem, even with the built in heating element operating if needed.

I have a 3kW solar system, and will only be running the heat pump during the day to capitalise on solar system output. The heat pump draws around 440 Watts in silent mode, 580 Watts in standard mode, and 2,400 Watts in heating element mode. If you run in silent mode it may take a few hours longer to heat up during the day on the inbuilt timer, but with even the smallest solar power system, you will still have plenty of solar headroom for dishwashers, pool pumps etc. With the free Emerald app it is easy to monitor and control your hot water system from anywhere. If you want to set a schedule to heat only during solar or off peak tariff hours, make sure you only use the control panel timers, and not the app “Smart Action” timers, otherwise strange things may happen.

However, after doing my research, I was very clear in my mind that a heat pump is the best option for my house.

During my research online i found JR Gas and Water. Contacted them and I received thorough quote following my initial enquiry. Despite my several questions and concerns, Jarred constantly answered patiently and thoroughly, ensuring that I was completely satisfied with the quotation and the process.

I encourage everyone to do their research on different models available and compare them. Also, take the time to compare electric vs. heat pump systems and write down what is important for you. This will help ensure you make the best decision for your needs. their website has a lot of information on this subject but lacking the comparison feature.

The installation was scheduled shortly after I confirmed the quote. I chose the Emerald 270L heat pump model EE-HWS-A1-270E because of its Wi-Fi capability, which allows me to monitor and change the temperature and settings remotely. This model also includes the backup heater option, although i highly doubt if we ever need it here in QLD. They didn't have that in stock so on my request they ordered it and i was told that this is their first installation of Emerald heat pump in QLD. Brandon and Jai from JR Gas & Water arrived for the installation and were very professional. The neat, accurate installation, with no bent pipes and everything done properly, demonstrates the excellence of their work.(Pictures Attached) Overall, it has been a smooth and happy experience. Also, I had questions about installing a water filtration system in my home. Brandon guided me on the available options and how it could be installed. I plan to proceed with this in the coming months and will undoubtedly reach out to Jarred for this project as well.

The emerald system for 270 litre with eco boost has been working well so for since it was last installed a month ago. The emerald app is very handy to switch on and off your hot water when then tank is indicated full if you would like to switch off to save electricity. The heat pump itself is fine. It sips electricity unless the boost element is enabled. But the low sat rating is because the controller and the app are functionally useless. machine to boost mode. But that's a one shot deal. It resets to low 55C temperature, slow reheating mode (heat pump only) once the boost cycle completes. The app is terrible. Cant set the temperature at all, even for boost mode. Can't set the unit to use the element for quicker heating. Home Assistant implementation is crippled by locked down API. Can't create scenarios like "heat to 65C during midday solar peak, and if the temperature drops below 55C overnight use off-peak power to keep the water hot for the morning bathroom rush hour" I really wish I had gone with a different brand that had useful smart online implementation. I really wanted to love my purchase, and will happily revise my rating if the interface issues are resolved.

I have reached out to Emerald multiple times regarding issues with their software and mobile app. While their responses have been prompt, no real action has been taken. leaving a negative review, but after nearly a year without any progress, it’s clear that customer feedback is not being prioritized.

The unit itself functions as expected, but the app is severely lacking. Smart action controls are minimal—essentially just an on/off toggle. Smart Action has a schedule function but is not reliable and trigger via Wifi, which can be missed when connection dropped out, which happens very often. Smart Actions also doesn't have a schedule with Modes (eg: Quiet or Boost), which would be very crucial since there is no point in manually activating these modes on a daily basis. A hot water system should be something you setup and only check occasionally, not daily. The temperature adjustments cannot be made on the App, even though this can be made directly on the wired controller. The Temperature control function was removed after the software update due to health safety concerns of germs if set below 60 degrees, but please let the customer set it higher than 60 degrees (Eg: 65 or 70 degrees).

Furthermore, there is no integration with third-party smart home systems (Eg: Alexa, Google or Home Assistant), which is a significant limitation.

Given the potential of this product, I expected far more. I would be more than happy to update this review when actions are taken to address the issue promptly. Hopefully, Emerald moves beyond empty promises and delivers meaningful improvements.
