Rusty + Looong 8 min – Started off well, however started to develop rust on the outside and underneath after 1 year, never soaked clothes in it and wiped up any slight spills so no reason for it to rust so badly, still seems to work ok, however over time it seems 8 mins has turned into 20.. Wash wise has been a good machine, just disappointed in the amount of rust, leg… Read more
has now snapped due to rust and unable to balance properly. Have since bought a new electrolux front loader. Fischer and Pykle are usually really good, however this model sadly seemed to fail in build quality. Would have expected to last more than 5 years. The softener drawer seemed to clog up regularly too which was annoying.
Faulty product and terrible customer service – Constant issues with electronics. Cabinet rusted through after a few years. Manufacturer said it was because we used it indoors and not outside. Seriously ? They then said it was normal. Seriously ? Will never buy F&P products again.
Faulty paint finish and electronics – Terrible product. Constant issues with electronics. Manufacturer keeps saying not an issue. Major rust all over cabinet, not just surface rust. Has been exceptionally well maintained. Manufacturer said because it was used inside and most people use them outside - how stupid. They then said it was normal. We have always bought F&P as has my family - never again based on terrible customer service. Show details

Fantastic Machine! Quiet Operation – Fisher Paykel's WashSmart Front Loader is an excellent machine, the best I've owned! It's super quiet in operation (even on spin cycle) and cleans clothes perfectly. I love the wash cycle options, the 15 and 30 minute cycles are great for quick washes where garments just require a quick freshen up. The machine also looks great and I like how there… Read more
is a dryer to complement the range. The display is easy to read and tells you remaining wash time and where the cycle is up to (wash/rinse/spin). I also love the Eco function and the option to add a garment once the cycle has commenced. I also use the delay start function quite often, so that's great to have.
Prior to the purchase of this machine I was living with a friend who had the model below this 'QuickSmart' which was also excellent though I've found spending the bit extra and having additional functions has been worth it!
I purchased the machine on sale at David Jones for a great price.
Highly recommended!
Poor quality plastics - don't bump the selector knob! – I have had this machine for a couple of years and it works well enough but I seem to be getting holes in my Tees (???). HOWEVER, the selector knob decided to stop woking the other day, so I pulled it apart to inspect what the problem was. It would appear the knob has been bumped at some stage and the internal plastic bits have disintergrated. The… Read more
quality and robustness of the plastic behind the panel is (in a word) crap, and in a few more words, cheap Chinesee crap designed to break if you fart to loudly near it! The (very thin) plastic on the knob had split causing it to spin uselessly, and the LED shroud around the dial was damaged also. Inspection showed the plastic here to also to be a crumbly, split unsalvageable mess. I glued the knob back together and also glued a metal sheath from a dynabolt around it. I then drilled the LED shroud to the repaired knobs new larger, stronger spindle size. I replaced the damaged LED shroud mount and circuit board locating pin with a large wall plug to act as the spacer, a washer and a longer screw to hold it all in place and the circuit board down. It all now works OK again, but a hot tip is DON't BUMP THE very exposed, unprotected, designed to fail KNOB that cannot be easily replaced without dismanling half the machine, buying a new panel, or throwing the machine out.
Nice & Quiet And A Good Wash – I've had this machine just over one month (purchased 11 October 2015; review date 15 November 2015). Purchased from The Good Guys in Bayswater, Victoria. They price matched. I paid $765 and they did throw in some washing powder to the value of $34.95; I wasn't going to try and push for more - I've bought from them many several times and they give… Read more
me good prices, and sales staff are very helpful and friendly.
Anyway, the machine is nicely quiet, there is a count down timer to give an indication of duration remaining - sometimes it doesn't seem accurate but this doesn't worry me.
I've used many of the wash cycles and all seem good. Clothes come out clean and undamaged (make sure you use appropriate wash cycle for your clothing - i.e. jumpers should be washed on a gentler cycle and I've never had a problem).
Main issues:
1. The fresh water in and waste water out hoses are too short.
- I had to buy an extension waste water hose (as recommended by F&P in response to another review). The postage price was excessive for this hose - I didn't need next day delivery, and was willing to pay the $7.45 it should have cost for it to arrive a few days later. I then had to buy an attachment adapter nozel from Bunnings so I could attach the waste water pipe to the drainage pipe in the sink. Plus, I also had to purchase two new clamps so I could attach the adapter to the the waste pipe from the washing machine and the other end to the sink drainage pipe.
- I have bought an aftermarket longer fresh water in pipe but not attached it; the F&P supplied pipe can just attach.
- Summary: get a discount for your machine because you may end up needing to by extras just to connect it up to water and drainage.
2. It is very difficult to balance.
- I balanced it for maximum spin cycle, however that means it's unbalanced during the spin up to maximum spin.
- I can balance it for lower spin cycles but that means it's unbalanced for maximum spin.
- It is near impossible to balance the rear adjustments when the machine is in position because that's when it should be balanced but F&P haven't taken into consideration that these machines are likely to be used in small confined spaces and therefore the rear adjustments can't be reached when it's in position.
- My solution, I never used maximum spin on my old machine (which was more naturally balanced at low and high spin), anyway, and I don't use it on the new machine. It gets enough excess water off in the lower spin cycles for my needs.
Design:
- I like the touch button design. It's very easy to use. There's a good range of wash cycles. There's no need for programming anything, since operation is simple and quick.
- The inner drum could have been moulded in one piece instead of the "disruptors" (i.e. the wedges in the drum to disrupt water flow and the clothes to get a better tumbling effect) being attached afterwards during the build process. One piece moulding means there's less chance of clothing getting snagged. I can see potential in the long term, through wear and tear, that strands of clothing might become snagged in those disruptor/wedges. I'll reserve judgement on that for now.
- Hose pipe could be longer (as mentioned above).
- I use an antibacterial wash for some garments and I would've liked somewhere to include this in the dispenser drawer. My old machine had such a facility, which occurred at the end of the rinse cycle. I use the soft wash drawer in my new F&P machine, though I'm not sure when it gets applied during the wash cycle.
- Nice quiet operation.
Overall: Very happy with the purchase.

love this front loader – This is my first front loader and i will never go back. It washes everything well. the only thing it doesnt have a button for is soak, but you can manually go back and forward to do this. Very quiet, cycle times are very adjustable. Does woolens well Show details
Great – I bought this a year ago and I love it. Very easy to use with turn dial and easy to read functions. Everyday wash cycle just under 60 minutes and great spin speed. however lately ive noticed it may need a clean usually put dark clothes in the washing machine , I'm very satisfied with the product's controls and its performance when I apply different settings. Great, efficient washer – Great front loader with many options. I generally use the 30 min wash which is perfect for normal soiled loads. Spins well and keeps turning finished wash to limit creasing, until I get back to hang out. Highly recommend the brand, although this model has now been upgraded, but likely as good or better. Negative reviews
Very poor quality product – We purchased this machine having had good experiences with other Fisher and Paykel products. Drum bearing collapsed after only 3 1/2 years of normal family of 4 use. We wash only normal family clothes no more than 3 to 4 times a week. Technician cost $120 (which is outrageous by the way) to come out to diagnose the problem and confirmed that it… Read more
is a workshop fix that will cost over $500. Will definitely not be buying another one. I would expect to get a lot longer than 3.5 years out of this type of product.
Then the glass exploded – Yesterday the glass in the front door exploded. Literally. Glass all over the laundry and steam venting from the machine. Heavy cycle no more than 4 bath towels worth. F&P says this has never happened before but aren't in a hurry to investigate what went wrong (next available technician is 12 Sep and yes I live in a capital city). Up until that… Read more
moment I would have rated the machine 5 stars. The replacement part will cost $50 plus a call out fee of around $145.
Out of balance and the bearings are m asking a noise after 2 years – This machine has been playing up for the last 6 months and is not long out of warranty. The drum looks like it is out of balance and it keeps stopping halfway through the cycle, unbalance, error code 37, door lock, takes 40 mins to complete the spin cycle after 2 rebalances. The bearings are now making a knocking noise and it's just getting worse.… Read more
Was nice and quiet but this has just got bad. Not much of a washing machine if it won't last over 2 years. Our last washing machine lasted 9 years.

Well Made, Works Well, But One Issue to Consider – We've had one of these now for six months, and it gets solid use. It washes well and is easy on the clothes, while being as silent as you could expect. The only issue I have with it is that the standard wash cycle takes just over an hour, so if you have more than one load a large part of your day is going to be taken up waiting for the machine. … Read more
(On the other hand, I am sneaky, and generally use the quick 30 minute cycle which washes well enough that my wife has yet to spot the difference.) So when looking for a washing machine, investigate how long the wash cycle takes to make sure you can live with it.

great washing machine – This is the best washing machine ever. My partner works as a driller and previously always struggled to have his work clothes cleaned properly - this does it every time. I love the fact it has so many options to chose from and the add garment feature is handy. It also has a drum clean option which is fantastic Show details
Works to perfection – I got this washing machine after a friend told me how good it was. I have found this to be so true! I have notice a drop in my water bill right from the start which was very important in my choice of machine. The efficiency in cleaning my cloths is noticeable and would have to say I am very happy in my choice. I have found it to be a little on the noisy side but the results of the wash are worth it. Customisable and reliable – this machine is quiet and does not wobble on the spin cycle. its customisable but as not as much as some newer machines. i love the eco-saving cycle. the buttons are easy to use. it rinses well. it cleans good. i paid $540 ,for mine in 2012 at harvey norman Show details
Impressive cleanig & whisper quiet – This machine replaced an Electrolux.. Rubbish machine.. lasted 2.5 years. Purchased a new F&P and could not be happier. An economical machine to run. When it is operating, you can barely hear it.. Super quiet and cleans beautifully. It does not have a gear box so it is a very reliable machine to run. I would highly recommend it Show details

Rust Rust Rust – Noticed paint bubbling & rust spots appearing near soap drawer & along the bottom kick plate. Hubby pulled off the base plate & all behind it is rust. The paint has fallen off & the floor under the machine had rust dust. Whilst the machine works ok, the preparation of the body work is disgraceful. I've bought lots of F&P products over the years, but after this, nah. Show details
Love this washing machine, hasn't skipped a beat – Cleans clothes very well, clothes come out perfectly clean, not noisy at all, easy to use, even my 7 year old child uses it with ease. Highly recommend for anyone, fits a lot of clothes. Uses it for husbands work clothes and cleans with ease. Only issue is we had coins block the filter. It that was our fault. Show details
Lifesaver – I have 2 adult children in and out and changing outfits too many times each day!! Many loads later they are washed to perfection. I live the button to add clothing once you he machine has started. Working 2 jobs I do not have time to fuss. It runs on its own. My kind of machine Show details

Timer is not reliable – I’ve had this machine for about 2 years and always had problems with the timer it is out, I have had a serviceman out a few times to rectify the problem but to no avail. Fisher and Paykel where no help at all and we have paid a bit of money to try to fix this problem and this is the one of the main reasons I bought this machine. All other aspect of the machine are okay. I will definitely will not buy this brand again. Show details
Front loader convert – Love it - quiet, good range of cycles and washes well. Can't believe this model is discontinued... great machine for a great price. I wasn't keen on a front loader after one I had years back that didn't have lint filters, so my last machine was a top loader and the most disappointing appliance ever!!! So I am wrapt with this one, highly recommend it Show details
Perfect wash but broke after 3 months with long customer service – This machine cleans very well and removes pretty much all smells. It has been a dream machine for the 3 short months we have had it. Quiet and great spin dry. The "time left" indicator is inaccurate to the point that it is worthless. It will show 9 minutes left, and you can come back every 9 minutes for 40 minutes and it still shows 9 minutes. … Read more
The machine door lock broke after 3 months not allowing us to shut the door.
We have been told we need to wait 8 days before a technician comes out. A couple of days if ok, but 8 days is painful as we work long hours and when we get home, driving and waiting for hours at a local washing pallor is impossible.
Interestingly, the cheapest Simpson machine we bought 4 years ago (which we replaced) never skipped a beat and even though its clean was 1/5, it worked.
This machine works well 5/5, but its early failure and slow technical evaluation is not expected when it is under 2 years warranty. Hopefully its a lemon and we get it replaced.

The best – Love this washing machine the clothes come out soo clean!i have owned it for around 6 months.i had an lg before this and I had nothing but problems with the lg our clothes used to have brown grit all over them!but the fisher and paykel has been fantastic!i will never buy an lg again!
Good but model has a fault – Good washer, but like others have said does tangle shirts a bit. Didn't have any problems until 1 month before warranty expires. Same issue experienced above- rubber seal suddenly warped and machine started violently moving around the room. Rang F&P, great customer service- they had a technician out in two days. Tech knew exactly what the issue… Read more
was and said he had a repair kit for the issue. Apparently the new model has these parts included. Issue was fixed in 30 minutes and seems to be resolved. I'll update if anything changes!
The Best Washing Machine I Have Ever Owned – Cleans the clothes really well, they come out smelling fresh. It is very quiet, we previously had a top loader which was loud. Easy to unload, easy to use. Highly recommend the Fisher & Paykel Washsmart Washing machine to everyone, I have 3 children whose clothes get very dirty, I find this washes there clothes spotless everytime.
Perfect, – I have been using it for a year now. It is very good at cleaning. I mostly use the quick wash cycle which ends in 30-45 minutes. The operation is very quite. If I close my laundry door, I cannot hear any sound even silent periods of the days. Once I mistakenly overloaded the machine with double the amount of washing powder than is required.… Read more
The machine displayed an error on its display screen. I followed the instructions in manual and it was fixed in minutes. No mess for excess powder.
My consideration for purchase:
- Separate hot and cold water inlets as I've got gas-based water heating already
- 4.5 stars energy rating
Can't live without it – Purchased this machine recently as replacement for. Hoover front load. Outstanding choice. Super quiet, easy to use, would Highly recommend . I have always brought front load washers a and always German made but for a rental property they are a little too expensive , this FP fit the bill on all fronts .
Great Machine – We've been converted to front loader lovers by this machine, our concerns of difficulty of use and long wash times have been proven to be myths. The wash quality is fantastic and provided reliability proves good we really can't fault it. Service by appliances on line re: the purchase and delivery was also impeccable.
Perfect – The machine washes everything really well. Clothes, sheets, towels, bulky and delicate items are all washing really well. The machine is really really quiet. I love the great number of wash options available, particularly the quick wash - 30 minutes!! The spin is amazing too. Clothes come out super dry already!
So quiet, quick cycles – So quiet we barely hear it's running from adjacent room. Cold water is an option, not just minimum of 30 degrees. Doesn't beep incessantly at end of cycle. No issues with how well it cleans. We use Cold, 800 spin on Eco setting and it takes just over an hour.
Quiet and good washing machine – After reading all the reviews from this websites, I decided to go ahead with this model instead of LG. We only use it around 1 month. The advantages of this washing machine are: 1) Quiet 2) have the child lock system so the kids can't mess with the setting while washing. 3) Reasonable price and good size to hold the washing. 4) looks… Read more
modern and able to add garment when in a washing mode.
Cons are:
1) the touch pad is very sensitive.
2) the length of the drain pipe is short.
Not as quiet as I would like – When I was researching front loaders to buy my number one requirement was that it is quiet because it will be located in an open plan kitchen. This dishwasher is quiet during the wash cycle but is very noisy during the max 1400 spin cycle. Also I wish that it had more wash programs and that I can set my own frequent use program. water to wash my clothes and wish that I didn't have to reset it to cold everytime. The default water temp is always warm. Also the clothes seem to still have a lot of water left in them even after the 1400 spin cycle. I had a Fisher and Paykel top loader previously and the clothes came out drier.
