Will this tool successfully remove clover?

philb

Why do buyers put up negative comments when they have not read the instructions on the label? It is a failing of review systems. The tool is designed for use in soft ground. The instructions show that it should be pushed all the way into soft ground. It should never be stomped in with a boot or only slightly pushed in which would happen in hard ground. Are the negative comments coming from incorrect use by the buyer? I think so when I read the 5-star reviews from around the world. My Fiskars Xact Weed Puller has worked perfectly on my lawn for 4 years.

Well, the short answer is that when I bought the tool from Bunnings, it came with no instructions per se, and my previous experience with cheaper weed removal tools, indicated that I needed to exert less force, unfortunately Australia has some harsh climates and when my weeds are growing, it does not necessarily coincide with the rain season. It is a good tool, reasonably well designed, but it does meet the conditions within Australia.

I can't see how Australian conditions or climate can have any bearing on the way the tool is supposed to be used. I still have the large long card label that was on the tool when I bought it. It is hanging on the hook in the garage where I hang my 4 year old well used Fiskars Xact weed puller. It clearly shows in the first step in the diagram to push it in all way into the ground. In fact, if you don't, it can't work. So I guess if you can't push the tool in as required then a mattock would be the preferred tool.

If it can’t pull weeds out of a lawn in Australia then it should not be sold in Bunnings. They work for a while then they break, mine worked fantastic for the first 20 weeds then it went click and broke. If it’s that precious then it’s a perfect match for you.

There are way too many breaking to suggest user error.

i am having problems with mine, when i put a bit of pressure it locks up, to much play on the leading prongs, bad design by fiskar, i checked 8 of them in bunnings and they all have excessive play which will cause problems when you put a bit of pressure on to remove a stubborn weed, the prong on the handle and the opposite prong slip past each other and locks up can be rectified with carbon washers but it takes a lot of time as it has to be taken apart, with no instructions anywhere. it works ok when it works, not good for australian buffalo grass

Have been looking for about one month. It seems to have been removed from the Bunnings product list. Any other places I could try. I live in south east Queensland

I went to Fiskars web site and it says it's out of stock. My Bunnings had none and the web site no longer lists this product. Hoselink has a very similar tool.

Yes it will, pull out any residual pieces left behind if any.

I don't understand how this works. I have tried using it as the video shows, place the prongs over the centre of the weed, push right in using the foot bar and then lever the handle towards you, but I can't seem to get the root. When you look at it (not weeding), the prongs only come together to grasp when the footbar is pulled towards you, is that what levering the handle towards you activates? is there a knack to this?

Louise
Louise

Yes to both. 1.place the prongs over the centre of the weed (works best on tap root weeds). 2. place your foot on the footplate and push straight down (i.e not at an angle, you want the handle to be completely forward at this stage) until prongs are totally immersed.in the soil. 3. Take your foot off footplate and pull handle back towards you. The footplate then acts like a lever against the ground as the prongs come together to grip and hold on to the weeds.works best on medium to large weeds. If you have wet sticky soil it can remove a lot of the soil,as well. In that situation I leave the pulled weeds to sit in the sun a couple of days for the soil to dry out then shake the soil of before I bin the weeds. Once you get the knack of it you will start to blitz along. Good luck.

I think Louse has the answer there for you Mr. Gamer. Put the tool in as deep as you can and make sure its completely perpendicular to the ground. Push in firmly. You can leave your foot on the end of the plate to secure it as you pull towards you. It may even tighten the grip of the prongs on the centre of the taproot weed. Maybe it takes a little practice to get better at it. The placement right over the centre of the root is important so as to surround it with the open prongs. Its a breeze when you compare to all other tools or methods... Cheers...!!

Love my friskar., but lately when lifting out a tough weed, the handle pops out. Why is this?

Louise
Louise

Can't help you Toots, sorry. I have never experienced that problem so some part of the mechanism must be worn or faulty.

Gh
Gh

When you insert the prongs with downward pressure from your foot, the next thing to do is just lever the long handle towards yourself, like a rocking motion, and never try to pull it up vertically. If your problem continues call the manufacturer or talk to the place of purchase, mine has been rock solid and works perfectly, you could have something wrong although the mechanics is very simple. I hope you are not putting excessive pressure on it ? ...... Keep trying and good luck !

After 3 days my fiskar jammed could not move weed ejector, is there a reason for this or do i take it back to bunnings?

Louise
Louise

Take it back to bunnings Patrick , perhaps there is something jamming the mechanism. I have totally flogged mine and have had no problem with it jamming. Good luck with it.
