Chasing some advice on my GT3500. It shuts down running our caravan aircon on a 30-32 degree day after 20 - 30 minutes running between 1.2 - 1.8kw constant load. But come the late afternoon, it will run fine at similiar loads when ambient temp is cooler so Im assuming it must be shutting down due to temperature as its not overloading and have tested it at 2.5kw and it handled it fine for a short period. Ive stripped the casing off to run a temp gun over the unit but cant see a temperature difference between running it at midday and running it in the afternoon. Any advice or anyone know what temp these units will shutdown at?
Your GT3500 is likely shutting down due to thermal overload protection kicking in at high ambient temperatures. This is a common issue with inverter generators running continuous loads in hot weather. Your observation is correct - the issue is temperature-related, but likely inverter electronics overheating, not engine temperature. The thermal protection is working as designed to prevent permanent damage to sensitive electronics. Bottom line: This is a design limitation of the GT3500 in hot conditions with continuous loads. Improve cooling, reduce load during peak heat, or consider a larger-capacity generator for caravan air conditioning in Australian summer conditions.
Just wondering what is the valve clearance, cheers.
Hi Nick, thank you for reaching out. Here are the valve clearance specs of the Gentrax GT3500 generator model. Valve Clearance Specifications: Intake Valve: 0.10-0.15mm (0.004-0.006 inches) Exhaust Valve: 0.15-0.20mm (0.006-0.008 inches) Let us know if you need further assistance. Cheers.
My Gentrax starts and runs perfectly but if I plug it into the caravan the overload light comes on and the engine stops. Everything inside the van is turned off. The generator works perfectly if I plug the kettle directly to it. We have had no problems at caravan parks plugging into 240v.
Hi Rocketman, thank you for reaching out to us. What was the last appliance or load connected to the generator before the overload incident? Also, may we know if proper servicing and maintenance were followed, like cleaning the carby with fuel and the air filter? Thank you.

Hi Just bought a GTX3500. Starts up ok but nothing works on the AC . Troubleshooting says to reset the breaker? Where is the breaker on these???? Can't find it anywhere Thx
Hi Andy C., thank you for reaching out to us. We are happy to assist you. The circuit breaker is for the DC output, which is a button on the generator's front panel. If the generator's DC overloads, the button will pop out. To reset it, just press the button. Kindly take the front panel off and then check the connections at the back to ensure they're all plugged in tightly. Cheers.
Hi, Thanks for the response. I took the front panel off and noticed that the battery wasn't connected and is totally flat. That is obviously the reason why no power from the unit. Nothing in the instructions mention connecting and charging the battery!! I have had the battery on charge for 8 hours and still flat! Please advise . thx
Thank you, Andy. We sent you a DM on how to connect the battery and charge it. Cheers.
Simon S My pullstart cord won't retract and I need to know the easiest way to get to the recoil assembly so I can reset it ?? It's in a very hard to get place ,do I have to pull the whole generator apart to get to it?
Hi Simon, thank you for contacting us. Yes, you will need to open the generator to reach the pull cord assembly. If the pull cord string will not retract and there's no compression at all, you may need to consider replacing the pull cord assembly. You may contact the seller of the product for warranty coverage and further support. Cheers.
Got a 5 yr old Gentrax 3.5 that hasn't even run its first engine hour. No output so checked and found 1 of the four capacitors fried. was told to replace the inverter and did this. Now the output stays on for 5 sec (green led) and then goes into overload (amber led). The new inverter part only got 3 capacitors. Can that be the problem?
Hi Andy, yes, please share with us a photo of the replacement part inverter you have for reference.

Thank you, Andy. Were there any load connected to the generator before it overloaded with the new inverter? May we know if you have already cleaned the carby with fuel and the air filter of the generator?
no load was connected at all. the carby had been replaced two years ago and the generator never was at work since so other than any test starts it wasn't used. the engine runs just fine, air filter was cleaned, too. no issue with the engine running. The inverter part i ordered at Outbax (the initial dealer i bought the generator at) does not exactly look the same as the one on the Outbax and the Gentrax webshop. I ordered at Outbax as Gentrax is apparently out of stock for this for a long while. Still the part seems to have the right number of features e.g. 3 capacitators, 2 copper coils, etc but the items are located on different places on the board compared to the photos in the webshops. not sure how i can submit photos of it in this chatroom.
Thank you, Andy. We sent you a direct message here in ProductReview to attach photos for reference and evaluation.
I have a Gentrax 3.5kva inverter generator and there is fuel gushing out near the carby whilst running, why is this happening.
That's not happening on mine mate, must be something wrong.
Hi Scotty, thank you for reaching out to us. Please check if the fuel is overflowing and reduce the amount so it does not spill out. If you have any support requests, please contact us directly at support@gentrax.com.au; we'd be happy to assist you. Cheers.
My Gentrex 3.5 has no spark. Tried new plug and new coil. It seems that the magneto must be the cause of the prob. Any suggestions?

Hi Roger, thank you for your inquiry. We can check with our Team. Kindly share here a video of the unit highlighting the issue for reference.
Hello, I’ve recently purchased a Gentrax GT1200 generator. I plugged an itech world 40amp battery charger into it and the overload light flashes and runs loud but still provides power to the charger in its bulk charge stage. I then plugged an 800watt angle grinder into the generator and had no problems with that. Do the generators not like being used with battery chargers?
Thank you for your enquiry, robbo24. We sent you a DM to obtain more information about the transaction and the unit's issue. Cheers.
Hi , i have a friends as new gentrax 3.5 kva electric start with remote as well i was asked to check it runs but found it wont start found there is no spark so put in a new plug still no go . Oil level fuel levels and all fuses i could find ok , it has done less than one hour test runs . Any clues anyone please
Thank you for reaching out to us, Kelvin. For this issue, kindly clean the carby with fuel. Here is a video for reference, external link While doing so, it is also important to adjust or loosen the carby spring. The carby combines gasoline and air creating a highly combustible mixture. It also regulates the ratio of air and fuel, and it controls the engine's speed. A malfunctioning carby can have a great impact on a generator's performance.
My genset has no ignition spark so how would what you are telling me fix that ????
Thank you. There could be an issue with different parts of the spark system. The 8 steps below will help determine the problem for a quicker resolution. Step 1: Disconnect the spark plug lead. Then, clean the area around the spark plug to avoid getting debris in the combustion chamber when you remove the plug. Step 2: Remove the spark plug using a spark plug socket. Step 3: Note if the plug is wet with fuel and report this to us. Step 4: Clean light deposits from the plug with a wire brush and if possible spray-on plug cleaner. Step 5: Inspect the spark plug for very stubborn deposits, or for cracked porcelain or electrodes that have been burnt away. If any of these conditions exists, replace the spark plug. Step 6: Check the spark plug gap and adjust as necessary. The nodes should not be touching, however should also not be too far apart. Step 7: Replace all parts and try starting the generator. Step 8: The video in this link will show how to perform a spark test which will show if there is any power going to the spark plug. external link
G'day, Today, I was using my generator to run our caravan air-conditioner for a short time while we packed it. It was running fine, and then it stopped as if it ran out of fuel. After refuelling, I unplugged it from the van to restart it several times, and it kept stopping, and the overload light came on. As you can see from the attached invoice, it is just over a couple of years old. It has never been on a trip and has approximately only run for 5 to 7 hours. Used 3 times. It has been stored out of the weather at all times. Cheers
Make sure you have the tank lid vent open or it will stop as fuel can't flow. Other than that I don't know never had a problem. Hope the cap vent is all it is.
Cap was open so unfortunately that's not the problem.
Hi David G., may we know if the Service Maintenance chart was followed? To address the overload and the stopping issue of the unit, please clean the carby with fuel. While doing so, it is also important to adjust or loosen the carby spring. The carby combines gasoline and air creating a highly combustible mixture. It also regulates the ratio of air and fuel, and it controls the engine's speed. A malfunctioning carby can have a great impact on a generator's performance. Let me know how you go.
No change after new spark plug, clean fuel and a carby clean. Spring is free.
Hi David, kindly share the seller's order details or you can directly contact them for Warranty coverage of the unit.
Outbax Invoice for Order #000062213.I have now had it to a mower mechanic and he has been through the carby and all is fine. He suggests the gen sent is causing the overload. As previously stated it has only done 5-7 hours run time. Cheers
Thanks, David. We will communicate with the seller for you. Cheers.
Hi. Same as above motor is cutting out with overload light coming on. We bought directly from Gentrax and sent out to us in Proston Queensland. Where would our closest technician be? Or what else can we check at home.
Hi Tam, we do not have any local service center or local technicians but we can always help you. For Gentrax-purchased generators, kindly share here the Gentrax order number and we will look into the matter further and help resolve it. Thank you.

That’s the order number
Thank you, Tam. The number shared is not a Gentrax order number but perhaps it is from one of our partner sellers. Let us know who the seller is and we will liaise with them for you and get the matter resolved.
Outbax Sales is who we bought it through. Thanks
Thank you. We will check with them and ensure they help you about the gennie's overload issue. Cheers
Thanks
No worries. Stay Safe.
Hey Tam did you get it fixed as we have the same issue and outbax is not helping me any?.
No and haven’t heard from Outbax
Hi Tam, Outbax confirmed with us that they have reached out to you via your registered email with them. Kindly check your email inbox or if you have a new one, you may DM it to us so they can contact you for support.
Hey Larissa, please share here the Outbax order number and we will check with the seller. Thank you.
Thank you. It was in my junk folder. Thanks for that.
Thank you, Tam. The seller is instructed to assist. Cheers.
Butterfly valve - not choke valve is sticking. Just lubricate.
Hi Adriaan D., we sent you a DM to know more about the issue and how we can help resolve it. Cheers.
I have a Gentrax 3.5KVA generator. Out is about 4 months old. It has run ok up until now. It worked yesterday running the caravan aircon and was shut down properly. Today the gennie will only run for about 35 seconds and then it shuts down. I tried starting it without anything plugged in and the same thing happens. Tried it on eco mode... Same thing. It runs for 35 seconds and shuts down. It has fresh fuel in it. Can anybody please advise what is wrong and how I can have it repaired please?
Thank you for sharing your enquiry, Brian. Sorry to hear about the generator starting and stopping. It sounds like everything on the spark side should be OK. Did you notice if the overlight lamp lit up before it shuts down? Below I have listed some items that can be checked for troubleshooting: 1. Oil and fuel are the correct grades required. 2. Ensure all servicing has been completed, as instructed in the user manual. 3. Ensure the fuel hoses are connected snugly and not leaking, kinked or broken. 4. All filters are clean. 5. Ensure fuel cap valve is not blocked, try unscrewing the cap loose while running to temporarily allow more air in. 6. If possible, the carburettor to be checked by a technician. Let me know if you were able to try any of these troubleshooting steps and if any had a positive result. Thank you.
sounds like a blocked fuel hose or filter
I’ve had my 3.5kw gentrax for about 3yrs it only runs a small toy-hauler aircon, small fridge and 1700kw kettle. Have to turn off A/C for kettle no big issue all running fine. Now when I use the kettle and it’s finished boiling genset goes in the very high rpm then shuts down I’ve clean air filter and carbirator. Just about to change oil. Why would this just start to happen?
Found the issue. Butterfly valve shaft fuel side was not rotating smoothly. Pulled apart used 2500 wet n dry on shaft till smooth rotation. (Caution when pulling apart and take note of spring location) Ran genset with kettle goes back to low idle
Thank you, Dave. Your input is appreciated and important for future customer reference in case they encounter the same issue. Let us know if you will ever need any assistance with the unit. Stay Safe.
My 3.5 Kva is only a few months old and has just started to stop and it says overload when I plug my air con in to it , previously had no issues running the air con ,
Thank you for reaching out to us, Kerry J. We sent you a DM to know more details about the unit's issue and how we can help you resolve it.
My generator starts but it cuts out after a few minutes because the overload comes on what's the problem
Hi Kevin S., thank you for reaching out to us with your question. Overload lamp lighting up happens when the load connected usually happens to draw too much than what the generator's output can provide. We recommend contacting the seller of the Gentrax generator unit for further assistance. Cheers!
What was the outcome, im having the same problem. Cheere
Hi Jason G., The most common part that was compromised with an overload issue would be the inverter, a part that can be replaced by the seller under their warranty coverage. Kindly communicate with them for assistance. Thank you.
Sorry in advance if this sounds silly but our question is, We started our generator yesterday and it ran beautifully, what is worrying is that while it was running fuel was leaking out. It was sitting in a small pool of fuel. What does this mean and how can we fix it. It's almost brand new as it's only been used a couple of times. Thanks Rick and Deb
Is it best to turn the fuel cock off and let the engine run dry the carburettor or stop by the switch if the gen set is not going to be use for a few weeks Thanks Ken McDougall
Thank you so much for that Ken. Will give it a go.
Can someone plz get back to me asap on this cheers
Hi David Y., we have replied to your previous post. Kindly check our response. Thanks
