Updating my previous review — I initially had a frustrating experience regarding a laptop issue, which I shared earlier. However, I appreciate that the matter was taken seriously after escalation. The team at Harvey Norman Malaga, especially the store manager, made a genuine effort to resolve the situation. He stayed in contact with head office… Read more
and Acer, kept me informed, and worked towards a fair outcome.
In the end, the issue was resolved and I’m happy with the support and the new laptop. Thank you for turning the experience around — it shows good customer service when a business follows through.
Doesn't seem like you can rate less than 1 star. Worst service for a clearly faulty product. The team and service were horrible, then to request a repair of a product that is clearly not functioning is insanity. Stick to JB hifi or just buy online. I purchased through them as it felt a safer/better option, but will not be again. Show details
It's called customer service not customer servitude. I bought a computer on line. I was sent misleading pick up and tracking information. Shunted from pillar to post basically doing their job for them. The staff were surly, buck passing, lazy and never accountable. I even got a call today about my complaint that the tracking link they sent didn't… Read more
work. He blamed me because the item was for pick up and couldn't be tracked. Begs the question why they sent it to me. Is it any wonder retail is in trouble.

Harvey Norman Atherton — A Masterclass in ignoring Australian Consumer Law I’m writing this because I’m fed up. After three "strikes" with this store, I’ve realized their default response to any issue is "Go away, it’s out of warranty," regardless of the Australian Consumer Law (ACL). The Phone Fiasco: On Feb 25, I called about a known OLED… Read more
hardware failure on my $1,649 Samsung Galaxy (just 5 months out of warranty). I was told I’d have to find a repairer at a cost of $500 and they could do nothing because it was out of warranty. I did my research: under Section 54 of the ACL, a premium flagship phone should last longer than 2.5 years and this was a "Major Failure."
The Interaction: I took the phone into the Atherton store on Feb 26 with the documented fault, photos, receipt and contact details and requested they send it to Samsung. The assistant screwed up everything and threw it the bin, saying that mentioning Consumer Law would "upset Samsung." It clearly upsets Harvey Norman.
The "Service": For nine days, my business phone sat in limbo because Harvey Norman: Failed to send Samsung my receipt. Gave Samsung the wrong email address. Gave Samsung the number of the broken phone as the contact point. Harvey Norman then forwarded me an $88 "return fee" from Samsung. When I called Samsung to just pay for a repair, I mentioned how disappointed I was that the screen failed in two and a half years. That’s when the truth came out: the consultant told me ‘there’s nothing we can do because we don’t have the receipt’—the same receipt Harvey Norman later claimed Samsung "lost." Once I finally forced the store to send it, Samsung stepped up within 24 hours and issued a service number for a no-cost repair.
This isn't our first bad run with them.
The Pattern: A Consistent Disregard for the ACL This isn't an isolated incident; it’s a business model. Harvey Norman Atherton has a "Three Strike" history of attempting to void consumer rights the moment a manufacturer's warranty expires:
The Bosch Fridge: Coating failed just out of warranty. Response: "Bad luck." The Smeg Oven: Back panel literally fell off. Response: "Go away." (Interestingly, when I told Smeg directly, they were so embarrassed by the retailer’s conduct they replaced and installed a new oven, despite being 12 months out of warranty). The Samsung Galaxy: A $1,649 flagship with a major hardware failure. Response: Attempted to charge a "return fee" and blocked my access to the manufacturer by "losing" my receipt. The Common Thread: In every instance, the store ignored Section 54 of the ACL, which mandates that goods must be of acceptable quality and durable for a reasonable period—regardless of a 12-month "store warranty."
The Bottom Line: Don't be fooled by the "Product Care" they try to flog you, and don't believe the "gobbledegook" on the bottom of their invoices. They ignore the very laws they are supposed to abide by. I smell a big rat here. Cheers to Samsung for excellent customer service, but as for Harvey Norman Atherton? Three strikes and YOU’RE OUT.

because it is 10 days over one year, and they claim it is physical damage, which is not correct. Very disappointing quality for a $900 laptop. Bought a screen protector for my new iPad Pro 13”. Wanted a glass one, as they are nice quality, great finish and the manufacturer I wanted (Cygnett) really look after their customers. ‘lifetime’ warranty.
Within a few days, it was already starting to bubble at the point where one swipes up to close a window, and then began peeling up. It looks like it sustained a slight scratch - not a problem for a glass screen protector - but this junk actually tore after being nicked by the Pencil Pro. When using the Pencil Pro on it, the silicone one would have draw lines all over it that you cannot get out. A bit like putting a piece of paper on it and writing, you can see the imprint left behind when using the pencil - Yuck. The protector looks more like cheap plastic than silicon. I finally removed it today and fitted a proper Cygnett glass screen protector. So much better, the colours are more vivid, no cloudy images and no permanent imprint marks left when using the Pencil Pro.
When removing this piece of junk, it’s actually brittle too! More brittle than broken glass.
Harvey Norman computer department at MacGregor, Queensland has a fine gentleman named Peter working there. We have on two occasions been assisted by Peter. He helped us select the best one for purpose and it was the lowest priced of the options, being on special. If I could have rated less than one star I would have. They scammed me out of antivrius subscription. Absolute joke of a store and franchise. That's why I don't shop with Harvey Norman. Every time I rethink it, they remind me why I shouldn't.

We received outstanding professional and friendly service from Josh at the Everton Park Harvey Norman Computer counter. All our issues were promptly resolved. We wouldn't go anywhere else.

Travelled to the Sunshine (VIC) store on a stormy Sunday for the Sonos Sub Gen 3. HN website says that store has it in stock and out everywhere else in Victoria. The salesperson was very reluctant to assist and spent most time on the sales terminal.… Read more
He kept telling me he doesn't know why the website says that shop has stock, it would be a floor stock, why bother with gen 3 (about 900) but not gen 4 (about 1300). I told him there is little difference in technology between the two which was immediately dismissed by him. He showed no willingness to look for it on the floor either so I left. For a 900 subwoofer, what a turn off.
Follow-up · HN website showed the Sunshine store was the only one in Victoria had stock. While talking to me, the sale person updated the inventory level on the sales terminal and the website was also updated later to show no stock. It was the dismissive attitude and a funny feeling that he knows where the floor stock is/gone to.

Fabulous service from Jake and Jakub in the technology section. Spent time explaining costs advantages and disadvantages to laptops etc I was looking at buying. Extremely knowledgeable and no question was seen as silly. Spoke clearly and with good understanding of my needs re purchase and security concerns. We purchased a Hisense 75” TV from Harvey Norman Aspley with a 36-month warranty. The TV suddenly stopped working while still well within the warranty period. With a new baby arriving very soon, we ended up having to use savings we had set aside for the baby to purchase a replacement TV because we could not wait any longer without a resolution.
As a result, we have now been forced to lodge proceedings with QCAT to try to recover our money for a product that should have been covered under warranty. We are extremely disappointed with the lack of customer service and follow up.
HARVEY NORMAN DARWIN Brought a PC for $4500 and was told it could take up to 6 weeks to arrive, which we were happy with. rang Harvey Norman, they said the computer was discontinued. I went in to get a refund, and ask why we had not been told. Was told by manager that we were told (only told when we rang) and that it was a different reason and we were never told it was discontinued or that is was because the parts would not survive trip. This ended affecting our sons Uni course as we had to order a computer from another company who had it delivered to us within a week. When I asked for refund, I found out when I got home that they never refunded, instead charged me another $4500. Eventually got both sets of money back, but not straight away as had to wait for it to clear, even though they took the money straight out of my account. Manager was very rude and will never go back to Harvey Norman again
I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience at Harvey Norman Malaga. I purchased a laptop from this store in September/October last year for around $1200–$1500 and have been a regular customer since 2016, buying many products over the years. Unfortunately, the store manager was not helpful at all. Instead of trying to understand my situation or explore possible solutions, I was told that they “can’t do charity.” The conversation felt dismissive and lacking in basic customer care.
I wasn’t expecting something for free — only some consideration as a loyal customer facing a genuine technical compatibility issue. Even a respectful explanation or alternative suggestion would have been appreciated.
Sadly, this experience has left me feeling undervalued as a long-term customer. I will be reconsidering future purchases from this store.
Very disappointed.

back until Tuesday 23/12/2025 and there was no manager on site. Absolutely disgusting service from the franchisee of the IT department at that store, it was implied that I got a kit of eBay to repackage to obtain a refund, I was more than happy to swap for the right product however he claimed that there was a 5 week backlog and no other Harvey Norman had one which was an outright lie. Both Penrith and Auburn in Sydney had stock. I spoke with the Penrith store who were more than happy to exchange for the correct one. I requested a refund to be able to source elsewhere as it was a Christmas present and he flatly refused. The franchisee just didn't want to help as I suspect it meant giving another store a sale. I will never purchase from the IT department in Harvey Norman Bathurst ever again. I will happily travel to another store rather than deal with that rude arrogant person ever again. I wish I could give a minus rating.

Harvey Norman Darwin has always been a bad experience for myself and my wife. seems that trust for customers is very low and I suppose that is just the modern world we now live in. A real disconnect for believers in genuine customer service and interpersonal communications skills from salespeople. Sad, but it could be addressed better at this location.
Yesterday we returned to the Darwin store (after having to again travel 20 km from home) with erroneous supply of goods ($700 worth of items which we had paid $1,318 for) and was asked by the counter staff to show mobile phone invoices to prove our claim. Begrudgingly the Asian staff member looked at the detail and then asked for more and so I was on the process of obtaining the invoice when he turned and walked away as I was speaking to him. In the end another employee resolved the situation for ourselves. The stock was provided to ourselves on Saturday after an online order for pickup and was not checked properly. The items were placed into large bags and I was asked to sign documents for receipt without any copies of such provided to myself. The same employee who caused the error on Saturday and who was clearly not interested in the process of delivery or supply of goods to myself on Saturday and who was also the non-communicator yesterday who seemed disgruntled and this individual he really lets the team down at the point of delivery. If, as a business you are going to offer online purchasing with in store pickup and you send an email to ourselves to say that the goods are ready for pick up, then please thoroughly check the items picked. You are creating further problems and wasting our travel time and money if you don’t.
But this is our experience every time we purchase something via Harvey Norman Darwin. Always a problem and always poor service. Could it be that there must be high turn over of staff or the fact that the employees are not happy there? Well, that’s not our problem it is for management at Harvey Norman to understand and develop ways and business management plans to action.
We have always found the experience at The Good Guys on Bagot Road at way better experience for electronics and kitchen items way better and so this is our first port of call for such retail goods in Darwin. The interpersonal communication skills of all persons at that store has always been above for the same screening at Harvey Norman Darwin, in our opinion. Just a much nicer experience and more relaxed shopping at The Good Guys.
I suppose this is really about the purchase of a school laptop for my teen! My recommendation is that when you purchase a laptop computer for school ensure you get the best add on warranty you can. screen was damaged. took the item back the next morning explained the above and they said they would order another as the colour we ordered was not in stock. received a call later in the day that they would not be replacing it as they have photo taken from instore videos cams which shows the box was not damaged. l said thats impossbile, so return to store and they showed be highly pixelated photo of a Ipad box and someones arms . "not me". l asked if l could see the video when it was handed to me. they said they could not show me this due to privacy laws. the main boss/owner was away and we would need to wait for his return. l emailed my complaint and finally received an email reply from the store owner who said they will not be replacing the item, as they have footage of the box not damaged and if l wanted to see the footage then the only way l could access it would be via a court order from the police. at this point we realized they have no intention of addressing this matter in a professional manner. since then we have emailed a number of times and tried to arranged a meeting with the owner but nothing has come of it. l explained having been a long term loyal customer spending tens of thousands over many years they would see my history, l thought this whole situation was strange from the start, as just a few days before. we had a washer delivered and when we opened the box the washer was damaged. called the store and it was replaced within 2 days. l was later to discover there are multiple owners within the one store . [Name Removed] who owns the computer section. is the person we have been dealing with. the situation has left us being falsely accused of deception and out of pocket of $799.00. over 5 weeks in trying to sort it out , a gift for my wife left damaged in the store. we are now left without any option other than to warn others, be sure to check your boxes before walking out the store. we plan to the matter up with Consumer Affairs Vic. A very draining experience.

I purchased a discounted Acer laptop from the Bennetts Green store online. After 3.5 days of trying to get internet access, I visited a Telstra shop thinking it must be my oldish USB device. my device, he agreed it was possible, so I purchased a new one. When I first got the laptop home, I noticed that the cable from my external monitor wasn’t compatible with the computer, so I visited JB HiFi and bought the correct one. However, it didn’t work with the Acer BUT it did work with my old ASUS. So I returned to JB and exchanged it for yet another one. That also didn’t work with the Acer but it did with ASUS. I then decided that as my external monitor was a few years old, it wasn’t compatible with the newer technology of the Acer, so I went to Big W and purchased a new one. It didn’t work. BUT it did work with the ASUS. So by this time, I’d spent so much money that I could’ve just bought a more expensive and better laptop in the first place. I then made the unfortunate decision to visit the HN store. Without a doubt, one of the worst experiences of my 69 years and I left the store in tears. After repeating my story to the “technician” for the third time, I lost my patience and did raise my voice because of his total lack of respect. I felt like he was stalling, perhaps trying to think up an excuse. He then told me that if he could get the laptop to work on one of their monitors, there would be no refund. He started to go through a door to a back room, telling me he’d be “right back”. However, it was 15 minutes before he emerged looking very smug. I asked what took so long and he said he was testing it. I then pointed out that we still didn’t know if it was going to work with my monitor at home. I was told that if it didn’t, I would have to return to the store with both laptops, both monitors and both internet devices! In other words, to “prove my story”. When I didn’t back down, he told me he would get his boss. He eventually arrived and told me exactly what the tech had said. However, he went one step further with the most insulting comment of my life. He told me that my actions in going to Telstra, JB HiFi and Big W were the same as if I bought a Toyota and then attended a Volvo dealership when I encountered a problem!! I was emailed a survey, which I completed and returned. However, the complaints contained therein weren’t acknowledged. Instead, I received an email titled “Thank you for being a valued customer” from their marketing division that contained the statement “You will now receive promotional emails featuring latest product launches, storewide sales and more” after which was a Start Shopping button!!!

Kessler’s Rd why ? He said it was because someone had brought an apple product back and the staff member didn’t check the box and it was a different product ? I said you can clearly see I haven’t opened it. He then said I could be lying. And the only way to find out was to open it?? And that’s why they charge so much to change the colour. I’ve already told my friends and family about this atrocious service and response from @harveynorman and my wife and I will never set foot in one again. I wasn’t told about this cost before purchasing it. We have spent many thousands on furniture and electrical recently. I wish I had checked there reviews before purchasing.
