The Heritage Bank used to be very good especially in the branches. Not any more. I went in to organise taising the limit on my card to enable me to complete a transfer, which the staff member did, but when I went to pay for a job, I could not because it was not done properly, so I went in to a Branch to get a withdrawal, I was asked Did I ring to… Read more
let them know, I had tried to ring only to get a message that it was unavailable, so couldn’t ring. I fortunately was able to get some cash. ITS MY MONEY I should be able to get it. The whole experience was extremely stressful as the builder was wanting his payment. Don’t tell people we have to ring then not be available on the phone. Unfortunately there is no such thing as customer service anymore. And the fact I had to drive way out of my way because our local branch has been closed. The only reason for 1 star is I could not do zero stars. Please remove the slogan People First, as that is a very big case of false advertising

GOING DOWN THE TOILET. “People First” BANKS TARDY PAYBACK of DEPOSITOR FUNDS a SCAM and AKIN to STEALING. Thursday. I now have the tedious task of filing an AFCA complaint to attempt recovery of resulting lost income. I have held accounts with ‘Heritage’ since 2003 when it was still a ‘Building Society’. Now that it has merged with larger ‘People’s Choice’ to morph into the comically styled ‘People First’ branding, It has become truly dreadful. Needless to say I am currently migrating my entire banking activity elsewhere.

Great bank for small business, website login could be improved – I actually came here to mainly raise one niggling issue with the website login process. I'll talk to that then support my positive review. When you attempt to login via the website, unlike other banks, it is not possible to load the password field using a browser based password manager like Bitwarden or Lastpass. This means if you have a long… Read more
and strong password that is impossible to remember, you have to type it is character by character. Added to that, 'for security purposes' (no doubt) the characters you type as the password are masked so you can't tell if you make a mistake or not.
Then if you make a mistake (which happens to me at least once per attempt) if you do so two more times you'll get locked out for about 5-10 minutes.... I really wish they'd loosen the rules on password-manager loaded passwords so we can automatically load our passwords to speed up the login experience, as is the case with all other banks. The other security measures are strong so there is no excusable security-based reason for making it this as difficult and non-user friendly as it is.
Otherwise, to their credit and as a new bank user, I find all the other aspects fantastic. As a small business owner, I find the following to be standout:
1) waiting times on the phone are very short compared to all other banks. 2) security measures are strong (if not unnecessary in the occasion of the above one I mentioned) 3) customer service takes action very quickly both in store and over the phone. Unlike being lied to about promised actions as is the case with other banks 4) the NPP functionality is excellent for real-time transfers 5) the app works great on iOS without hiccups - plus the login experience is compatible with password managers (unlike the website) 6) the in store onboarding process is painless and fast
Two extra downsides to me are:
1) branch opening hours are not long on weekends - not a biggie if you book in advance 2) it can be hard to make transfers when overseas if you don't have your phone with you because they almost always require SMS confirmation - there might be a way around this but I don't know if it is easy to arrange.
But all in all I'm happy to recommend this bank as a small business bank, I have really enjoyed the experience and am also considering bringing my personal banking across as well.

not only lures new customers, but they looks after their existing customers. They would make sure that their customers have good experience with Heritage and stay in. The last point is very important to me after my experiences with my three previous banks and got tired do paperworks.
My experiences recently proved that they really look after their existing customers. On my 1st anniversary, they called me and checked in how was my experience and if I needed something. I have never had this experience with my previous banks. The second case when I had some misunderstanding with Heritage bank, Krystal & Garden City team helped me to resolve the issue. They certainly prioritise their service continuity, not only give good service when you are new customer. We always talk with real person not machine and they really look into our case & give their best.
I am really thankful for Heritage bank and would recommend Heritage bank especially Garden City to my friends and anyone.
I changed banks after being with Commonwealth for 55 years and have found Heritage friendly and helpful. They where patient and explained every aspect of the changeover so that my poor old not tecsavy brain could understand. Would recommend to anyone who still wants face to face service and isn't up with doing anything online. Show details

Although this goes back some years, it still irritates me. I established an account with Heritage Bank Caloundra and requested a card to use as a backup if my credit/debit card with another bank didn't work for some reason. However, after a period of time, Heritage Bank "fined" me $25 for not using my card although they had the use of my funds throughout the period. I closed the account and will never use Heritage Bank again. Show details

Moved ourselves and widowed mum to Heritage a couple of years ago because we wanted to support a smaller, more community focussed business. the ATM area boarded up like an abandoned wild west joint. Zero notices anywhere ... so no clue when/where they'd closed or where the nearest branch now was.
We visit the Range regularly, and had not seen any previous notification anywhere of imminent closure.
So went to Gatton to get my cash. Their ATM was down ... Feeling a little peeved I snooped around on line to find they'd recently closed down their branches at Oakey, Pittsworth and Millmerran. How's that for a business with the motto "people first"?!
Shopping around now to find a replacement bank for when we close all our accounts. Which they will feel! I honestly think the bigger boys actually have more courtesy!

Closure of my local mini-branch in the newsagent happens March 2026 (I've been with Heritage since 2003). The elderly and disabled demographic in town will suffer the most. the bank but Heritage appears to have forgotten that we are the very customers who made them successful to start with! Yes we can all go to the Post Office (which is already extremely busy before you add bank customers into the mix) but it ain't the same-I won't be able to access specific banking areas that I could at the mini-branch. Heritage stated no branch closures would happen "as a result of the merger" - now they have closed some 35 branches to date (I think that's the number so far-could be more). Heritage service has declined very noticeably over the past 10 years and rapidly descended into an institution that appears to care naught for its smaller customers since amalgamation with People First. Aren't customers the reason you make profit? Surely there should be give as well as take. I know little people don't count anymore and the younger generations have been taught to use their phones for purchases. They haven't realised just how much money they are losing in charges for their daily purchases instead of using cash so Heritage (amongst other banks) can then say 'but no-one uses branches anymore' and that's why we closed them. Very sad indeed.

review, or complain have been met with I must say very polite attitudes, but no action, I have called Toowoomba now on 4 occasions the head office attempting to try and talk with someone with some authority and a a modicum of sense, but again only to be met with very polite conversation and the promise of another call back which does not seem to happen. Even at branch level face to face with the manager has been very polite, but no action, and again totally inept reasons for the issue, just blaming head office. Out of security reasons I am not divulging the total problem, but suffice to say, as soon as I am able (currently in ill health) I will be moving banks, my wife and I are not a big customer by any means ,but if this is the way a 30 plus years customer is basically "ignored" then I would say there will be a slow decline for this bank, sooner or later more people will feel "insulted" by these would be bankers!!

Non Disclosure = VERY unhappy customer – I have been a loyal heritage customer for many years and I have recommended them to many other people but what they have just done is in excusable. procedure apparently when you earn interest unless you are exempt or give a TFN. The ATO has exemption criteria and my son meets 2. He was under 16 when he opened the account and the account was in his name. In addition he did not have a tax file number and according to the ATO should have been exempt from any withholding tax. The only criteria he did not meet was the amount of interest earned in 1 year. The inexcusable action here is that the bank disclosed none of this when we opened the account. Nor did the branch mention that on maturity when the interest was claimable, 47% would be held. Failure to disclose the need for information that could result in the holding of next to half of the interest paid is not just negligent it's next to criminal. If we had been informed of this we could have taken the appropriate action to avoid this before opening the account. Admittedly this may be more indicative of one particular branch but it is a reflection on the intitution itself. Ringing to find a solution was of no help. Complaints for non disclosure now being lodged with the appropriate authorities.
