Homelite HLT25CS Questions & Answers
not starting too easily.
Not starting
Possible causes include: old / dirty fuel, blocked carburettor jets, faulty coil/lead/spark plug, faulty kill switch, or switch in 'off' position, cracked fuel line, cracked carby diaphragm, stuck needle valve, coil too far from flywheel. There are others such as low compression from broken or worn piston rings or damaged cylinder wall. Work through this list and hopefully you'll figure out the problem.
Pull start cord stayed out..won’t recoil. Not old machine and hardly done any work. How do I rectify ?
You’ll need to remove the shaft and cover to access the spool and spring. It’s possible that the recoil spring has broken and is not holding on at both ends.

My trimmer cutting machine has refuse to start despite all i have done to make ot start please what can i do to make it start thank you
Replace plug clean carb, the 2 most common faults.
Where does the oil go in
It’s a 2-stroke motor. Mix in with petrol.
My unit starts ok but does not engage. Can this be fixed and if so how is this fixed?
It sounds like the clutch is damaged, very fixable but it will probably cost more in the parts required and labour if you are unable to do the work than the machine cost.
Thanks John, I just saw the reply, if you have the details could you please copy and paste so I could try to fix it. Appreciate your reply.
How do you put cord on bumpless Homelite wippersnipper model lth25
They don't come with bump heads from new, they use a single strand cutting cord which you thread from side to side through the holes, the cord is available at Bunnings. You can however buy a bump head for the next model up at Bunnings,$20 something dollars which fits straight on tin place of standard head which comes with speed load, you just feed a piece of cutting cord 3m long through from hole to hole, even out the length of cord on both sides and turn base anti clockwise to feed it into bump head. Hope this help.
Why is on/off I/O?
It’s standard binary code for on/off with computer microprocessor programming code. 1 is signal on and 0 is signal off.
Thanks
Homelite HLT25CS runs but won't idle any ideas please
Blocked idle tube in the Carby
What fuel do I use for the HLT25CS
50:1 is what is listed
I have a Homelite HLT25CS that starts and runs well but once hot will not starts for a good 20/30 minutes later.I have been told to replace the coil On checking the coil I find no Identifying part Numbers only the name KASEI on it. All checks found they don't manufacture them anymore or are out of stock or no longer available. Is there a compatable one that can be used in its place and if so what part number is it . John....Brisbane
Have you been pumping the primer bulb when hot 10 times like recommended? If it is the coil and it's a Kasei try looking for a similar coil, many lawnmowers, chainsaws and whipper snippets all use similar coils. I will look for an alternate for you just give me a couple of days.
It will come from China regardless, this is an eBay listing for Ryobi/Homelite; Replacment For Ryobi Ignition Coil 291337001/RY251PH/RY251PH/25CC String Trimmer
Have tried pumping the primer bulb when hot but no luck getting it to start. Have checked the spark at the spark plug when hot and it appears weak so it appears to be a coil problem. Thanks for your info I will follow it up and keep an eye out for any following information. John S
what is the correct fittings to use on a homelite whipper snipper?
What are you meaning by “fittings”? Can you be more specific please?
Ya, the 2 fuel fittings on the carby, which fitting connects to the fitting with the filter in the tank, the second is just the fuel return to tank I think? Thanks, don
The fuel pickup is the lower connection on the carby, the upper one is the return to the tank.
OK,THANKS MATE,CHEERS
I have a renegade whipper snipper can I put a homelite bump feed spool and knob on it
Yes you can from the nextodel up, readily available alongside cutting cord

The diagram I have shows the trimmer has 2 hoses a black one and a yellow colored one the filter is shown on the longer black hose.

Bottom fitting on carby is from tank top fitting is fuel return.
New homelite whipper snipper and ready to go - on/off function doesnt work
i woud like someone to explaine how to replace a new fuel line on myhomelitehlt25cs 25cc 2stroke thanks
With difficult as it is 2mm hose and you have to lift both filters out of the tank, feed new hoses in from carby side of tank then grab them out to replace filters back on, make sure you keep the from tank line longer to reach bottom of tank.
how to replace the old fuel line with new
Way is to difficult to estar cool and hot
Please check the fuel is 2 stroke mixture correct ratio, spark plug is clean and lead is connected properly, also check air cleaner is fitted correctly and clean, prime the carburetor with fuel using the bulb, give a few pulls on the starter cord with the coke on, then try with the choke off and the throttle held open, if it will not start return to the store of purchase or a suitable repair store. Cheers mark.
Just bought one. Starts easily but head not spinning. Does it only spin in the run position?
Hello, Once you have the unit running properly without the choke on if you pull the throttle and rev the motor the head should spin to cut the grass, use the unit at full throttle when bumping the head to advance the cord. Cheers Mark.
how to start the homelite hlt25cs
Make sure kill switch is ON, There is correct fuel mix (50:1) in the tank, squeeze the primer bubble on the carburettor 3-5 times to ensure the carb has fuel in it, move choke lever to closed position, pull starter handle. The first time it fires, stop pulling the starter and move the choke lever to about half choke position, then pull starter handle again. It should start and run. After 10-15 seconds you should be able to move choke lever to fully open position and go to work.
When I first tried this line trimmer, I used brown-coloured Shell 2T oil to mix with unleaded petrol using the recommended 50:1 mix ratio and it ran for about 10 min OK but after I stopped it to replace the 50cm cutting line cord I could not start it from hot or cold. Bunnings staff suggested that since the oil was brown and not blue I may have accidentally used 4 stroke oil. So I emptied the tank, cleaned the spark plug and filled it with a 50:1 mix using a blue-coloured oil labled for use with line trimmers and it ran fine stright away. What was wrong with the other oil - the Shell web says the Shell 2T oil is OK for this application?
