Please tell me how to set all three knobs on my Viking 140M to overcast stitching. What foot do I use? This machine is new to me, given to me by my mother. My old Viking is not repairable. Please help. I am cutting down pillowcases and need to overcast the edges. Thanks

I have a button that i push for the needle position to be down and push again for the needle position to be up . It is not doing it any more. Also when i stop sewing the bar just stops anywhere so i manually have to rais it so it doesn't pull out the thread. Any suggestions as to why.

I have this machine, today I had the settings for free motion, feed dogs down and doing ruler work, machine sewed beautifully for about 1 hour and then the feed dogs popped up. I have turned machine off reset settings and tried sewing again and the feed dogs keep popping up in the middle of sewing free motion.

Just bought yesterday. Why didn't the sales rep tell me I was buying an older discontinued model?

What is a comproble model of today to this older model?

Exactly I didn't know it was part of singer. Or it came out in 2012. So it's old tech.

I am sorry I can't help you I don't have it anymore. I took this machine back to the shop that many times in the first month with so many things wrong with it I demanded a refund and got it. Good luck with yours.

Are free motion (for stippling, etc.) and/or dual feed feet available for the Tribute 140M please.

Thank you!

Free motion stippling can be achieved using the small clear foot (for free motion quilting) included with the machine.

That foot was not included in my purchase. If it has a number on it could you please advise me of it.

Have you found a dual feed foot for quilting?

Thank you for your response.

My machine seems to be not stitching smoothly under the fabric. I am quilting and see loops instead of clean stitches. Any ideas?

Unthread top and bottom thread. Clean out under the bobbin housing as it might be linty and that can cause stitching issues. Reassemble the machine bobbin housing. Check the bobbin thread isn't all messy on the bobbin and if it is, wind a fresh bobbin of thread. Change the needle as well. Dull needles or microscopically small burrs can ruin stitch quality. Use a Topstitch, Denim or Quilting needle for machine quilting for nice clean stitching. With presser foot in the full up position rethread the machine in the top and the bottom. Test sew through a quilt sample, same batting and fabric, same thread. check the tension. If it was sewing fine before during quilting then went wacky doing these above has a good chance of fixing it. Otherwise adjust the top tension, looping to the back means you need to increase the top tension until the stitches balance in the middle of the quilt.

Failing all else if you have done all those things you might need to take it in to your service centre.

What is the appropriate walking foot for the Viking Tribute140M? Every one I see seems to say "not for the Emerald 116,118,122 which seems to be the same as the 140M.

Jude, my dealer recommended the Janome walking foot part number 200-339-007 for Horizontal Rotary Hook machines. Its an open toe foot, it fits, and it is the same as the foot that a friend of mine had ordered in a special walking foot by her Husqvarna dealership for her Emerald 122 but mine cost less than half the price she paid! We compared feet out of curiosity one day, and were quite surprised at our discovery. Guessing the feet are made at a factory that then sells to whoever wants to buy them that have models that the foot will fit, who then package it for sale under their brand. Interesting isn't it?

I need a new sewing machine and it is down to Bernette 25 and a Husqvarna Viking Tribute 140M (anniversary edition) and a Bernina Activa. What do you recommend and:

a) how do these machines compare to each other ?

b) What is the stitch quality like between all machines ?

Any recommendations please ???

many thanks

Rhondda, I can't comment on the other machines, as I haven't tried them. I've had my Husqvarna for 3 months now, and am so pleased with all aspects of it. The stitch quality is excellent, and the range of stitches are enough for my type of sewing. I recommend that you seek out dealers of the machines and ask to take them for a test run. Good luck with finding your new machine :)

I have had my Husqvarna Viking Tribute 140m for approximately 6 months now. I've sewn garments and done quilting with it, and it sails through the tasks beautifully. Variable stitch speeds which I have found to be great for my quilting projects and it sews through multi-layers of fabric like a breeze! I love this machine. I have three other sewing machines, all of which I use, however I always seem to come back to my Husgvarna Viking time and time again as I love the results and the response I get from the machine!

I've used all three of the models you are comparing. I'd hands down head straight for the Bernina Activa for stitch quality, quality of the build, and performance. Unless you want a fully mechanical machine and then that would leave you only the Tribute 140M. I'd recommend the Activa because of the bobbin configuration, needle penetration power, consistent neat stitches through a large range of fabrics and thicknesses. I actually own an Activa, but its too heavy for air travel by several kilos..because there is so much metal inside the machine! I'd go so far as to say its not even in the same class as the Tribute nor the Bernette25, its so much better! The finish on all the parts is also nicer. In order of my preference for build quality and performance I'd say from best to ok would be 1. Activa range Berninas, 2. Husqvarna Emerald range/ Tribute, and 3. Bernette 25 my least recommended. You need to sit down and compare them side by side for yourself and your own sewing needs, of course.
