5 Susan T.  · Better than bunnings – I furnished my entire house from IKEA, do not regret it, best decision of my life
1 ali m.  · Deliberately set up as a maze so you end up inside for a long time looking at their overpriced trash – No clear exits and the store has a confusing layout
1 Gilly  · Pathetic Service – Wrong product shipped and pathetic phone support waiting for over an hour for someone to answer. Worst service ever experienced

Stock control stated 10 items in stocks, but reality was 2. There were supposed to be covers for the headrest and there were zero in the colours listed. The warehouse system is in disarray and staff are less than keen or able to help. Ikea stated the item could not be delivered but had to be purchased in person but none were available. A… Read more

I am posting this review so that other IKEA kitchen customers know that they do not have to simply accept premature failure of IKEA kitchen components, especially where the problem involves EKBACKEN benchtops, METOD cabinets, swelling, delamination, moisture ingress, peeling, bubbling, or edge failure. In my case, IKEA kitchen components,… Read more

including an EKBACKEN laminate benchtop/worktop and METOD kitchen cabinets, deteriorated in ordinary domestic kitchen use. The damage included delamination, swelling and moisture-related deterioration in areas where kitchen products should reasonably be expected to cope with normal use, including around the sink and dishwasher zones.

I raised the matter with IKEA and asked for proper technical evidence showing that the EKBACKEN benchtop and METOD cabinet components complied with relevant Australian requirements and were fit for purpose in an ordinary kitchen environment. I asked for actual test reports, laboratory accreditation details, standards references, and a comparison against applicable Australian or Australasian requirements relating to moisture resistance, durability, cabinetry performance and fitness for purpose.

IKEA made various offers during the dispute, but in my view those offers did not properly resolve the full problem. Earlier offers were limited, and IKEA maintained at different stages that the damage was related to environmental or water exposure, installation, or workmanship. However, independent material I obtained supported my position that the damage was consistent with product failure, including moisture ingress and poor adhesion of the ABS edging to the substrate. The independent findings also recorded that some affected areas were original uncut edges, that the dishwasher moisture guard had been installed correctly, and that installation was not the cause of the moisture damage.

I eventually took the matter to the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal. In QCAT case Q5730-26, the Tribunal ordered that replacement of the delaminated benchtop and cupboard occur at IKEA’s sole expense, and that IKEA undertake the repair and replacement within 45 days by arrangement with me.

I would have preferred the order to expressly state that any replacement components must comply with Australian manufacturing standards and be fit for purpose for ordinary domestic kitchen use. However, the outcome still confirms an important point: a consumer can challenge IKEA and obtain a practical remedy when kitchen components fail prematurely.

My advice to other IKEA customers is simple: do not be intimidated by a large international company. Take photographs, keep every email, keep your receipts, ask for the actual technical documents, obtain independent reports if necessary, and pursue the matter through consumer protection channels or the Tribunal if the company does not provide a satisfactory solution.

This review is not written out of spite. It is written to warn other consumers and to encourage people with similar IKEA kitchen failures to stand their ground and seek a proper remedy.

arranged to send an email when they were back in store at North Lakes. Received the email yesterday, under a week from enquiring, went to the store, and with the help of staff found where the flatpacks of the chairs were, loaded up a trolley, went to check out, paid. All done. Very happy with the experience and products, 2 Poang armchairs.

Follow-up  · Some weeks now since purchasing my new armchairs (Poang, from Ikea). and am very pleased with the purchase. Comfort is good, fabric is good quality (if it does become soiled in a year or two, I can always buy just new cushions). Construction was reasonably easy, a little thought and sorting before the start, but all ok. What a surprise to open… Read more

Missing items on collection with no one able to help in a timely manner. Take a number , wait in a big queue whilst assistants chat to each other. No acknowledgement of time wasted or stress caused. Most staff dont seem to have a clue whats going on. A few are good.

Their buy back scheme is misleading. I just wasted 4 hours of my time, and other people's time, and energy, and petrol money. Then I had to borrow a vehicle big enough to take it, plus get help from my poor elderly dad to carry it, got it there with much… Read more

blood, sweat and tears only to be told it was too old. I would have been happy to give it away but no, I had to lug it back to the car and reverse the whole process. I can't tell you have bloody disappointed I am. I couldn't care less how much I got for it but I wouldn't have bothered if they had asked how old it was online and told me then that they wouldn't take it before I wasted half a day getting it there and back for nothing. I would have given negative stars to this if I could. Of course, no one cares.

Poor Delivery experience – Ordered new office furniture online and booked delivery for Saturday. Delivery window was a 6hr period (ok no problem). Lost click and collect order, then replacement went missing too – Our dishwasher was close to dead and I saw IKEA had a sale on Diskad. They were out of stock but stock was due the next day. First thing in the morning the site said 25 in stock at North Lakes so I put in a click and collect order with collection that evening after work, as well as some other items I needed to install it. On the way to IKEA that… Read more

evening I took the old dishwasher to the dump and once at IKEA they could only find the door, handle and brackets part of my order. The dishwasher itself was missing. At the same time there were several other dishwashers in CaC, just not mine. They directed me to customer support who advised they would get one delivered to my house from the Logan store. 2 days later I get a refund notice out of the blue with no explanation of why. I called customer support and they said the order was now cancelled as they have no stock. They said they should be able to price match another model but couldn't select an appropriate model due to lack of knowledge, so they fobbed me off to a Kitchen Specialist who then said that wasn't possible and tried to come up with excuses for my lost order. They would not offer an alternative model for what I spent so now I have a hole in the kitchen and a bunch of junk that I need to take back to North Lakes. A huge waste of time from everyone involved at IKEA, and no-one has even tried to make this right in any way. The whole experience felt like a bait-and-switch.

Zero customer service and communication – Terrible customer service. Spent just over 2K on pax wardrobes and skytta door system. and frustration with this and was told by the first person that they didnt have a price guarantee in Australia and nothing could be done. When i pointed out that other customers have received store credits, he told me its a case by case situation and my case was denied. I then spoke to another person who actually did a claim. After waiting 5 days I contacted Ikea to be told my claim had been denied 2 days prior. I hadn't even been notified. I was told that it was because my purchase wasn't within 2 days of the price change! I pointed out that I could return the items and buy them again at the reduced price, so this made no sense. I was told yes I could and that they weren't prepared to issue a gift card. Its a $160 difference which is substantial with todays cost of living.

Item not working, complaint ignored – We like our clocks, so when we saw a clock, identical to one we had previously bought in “as is” at IKEA North lakes for half price, we snatched it up. that as we’d bought it in “as it” they couldn’t refund. So be very careful, as IKEA are basically saying that anything you buy in “as is” might not even work, and they don’t care and won’t replace. This could apply to cookers, microwaves or anything electrical that might simply not work. I used to be happy with IKEA but a couple of recent issues with their customer service has reminded me that they really don’t care about the customers it’s all about $$s so just be aware.

Delivery – I purchased the Kivik modular for around $1500 and paid for delivery & assembly. Well only the chase part was delivered and I… Read more

have had to follow up about the rest of the couch. I had the man turn up to assemble the couch and a bed I had purchased and he asked me where the rest of the couch was! What an absolute mess, I have had to reschedule with him & go in store to follow up!!! I spent $2500 all together for a couch & bed, plus delivery & assembly... you'd think it wouldn't be such a muck about. I will not be ordering with delivery again. I already had enough to organise moving with a child & I really didn't need the extra stress.

Never buy an IKEA kitchen… ever! – We’re currently 2 months overdue to have our kitchen finished and it’s still only a little past half way. to cancel the benchtops we’re waiting for and source them locally. This has cost us time, money and sanity. We haven’t been able to use our kitchen in over two months. Our family has had to stay at my parents. We’re still waiting for the benchtops to be picked up and refunded, after two returns couriers have been here, but because certain items weren’t on their list, they refused to take them back. I’m lost for words as to the nightmare this kitchen has created. IKEA should be ashamed of themselves, they have no idea what they’re doing. If you’re wanting a kitchen, it’d be easier for you to grow the wood and whittle your cupboards with a pocket knife than to have these imbeciles supply it for you. Not worth the money or the loss of sanity. A bewildering failure to put it kindly.
