Janome JR1012 Questions & Answers
VerifiedMy janome Jr 1012 won't feed the material through. I have removed the feed dog ,,cleaned it all, oiled the machine and brushed out and dust changed the kneedle and read the entire booklet including the trouble shooting section, but it still won't feed the material through. What else is there ?.
My machine gobbled up the cotton in the bobbin so much that I needed to pull the base of the sewing section out. i,e, bobbin and all other bits. Now I cant get it back on, just can't work out which way to put it back together again. Please help!
Hi Margaret, Thanks for your question. On page 50-51 of your instruction book, there are instructions on how to clean the shuttle hook unit, along with an image of how everything fits together. This process is sometimes easier if you lay the machine on its back, as gravity helps each piece stay seated correctly within its housing. Hope this helps.
Hi, has this machine got a Alphabet option on it.
I don't know what a Alphabet option is so I'm pretty sure the answer is no. This is a basic manual model. I have many years of sewing experience, but don't sew a lot now. I have used this machine for taking up jeans, quilting with a walking foot, making curtains, bed linen, kids clothes and have found it to be adequate for my needs. I like that it is really light weight as I can store it up high and transport easily. The downside is it does tend to shift on the table which can be remedied a bit by using a non slip mat under it. The features I would have liked is the ability to change the needle position to either left or right of centre and an adjustable speed control. Hope this info is of use.

Can I adjust stitch width for zig zag stitch?
The width of the zig zag can be adjusted with the left dial (from 5mm to 0).
machine fails to engage reverse when lever depressed. Is there a fix.
when I go to so the thread keeps on getting pulled out of a needle and jamming up in the machine any ideas I'm a real novice?
My jr1012 shakes when sewing no matter what fabric or how thick it is, or what the tension is, I had it serviced 6 months ago, does anybody K ow what it could be?
I've cleaned it out a few times and oiled, new needle is there anything else I need to be doing?
Thanks ?
For sewing lycra what is the best tension and stitch setting? I've been asked to use a wide zigzag but not sure on the right setting to get that. Thanks
Is there a way to slow the sewing speed?
I have the JR1012 and it is ridiculously fast. I have had professional seamstress take a look and they both agree it is way too sensitive especially for delicate situations.
Hi Rebecca, No unfortunately speed is determined by the amount of pressure on the foot pedal and there is no way to adjust it. I'm pretty sure one of my earlier models had 2 speed settings but this one doesn't. I wish I had your problem as I find the speed a little slow for my liking even when the pedal is flat to the floor! My only suggestion is lots of practise on scrap fabric and I'm sure you will get used to it. Good luck Gail
How or where can I find an instruction manual for the Jr 1012? i have somehow misplaced my original manual
Instruction manuels are readily available via the internet. Just google janome 1012 instruction manuel and you will find a number of options. You will be able to download and print if you want a hard copy
can you set the sewing speed to slower for a beginner?
thanks marilyn
Hi Marilyn There is no setting for the speed. Speed is determined by the amount of pressure you exert on the foot pedal = just like the accelerator in the car. I don't think you will have much trouble if you can drive a car. Get yourself some scrape material and practise a bit. I taught my teenage son to sew on a Jenome and he mastered the speed within 15 minutes. Happy sewing
Doe the JR1012 have a stretch stitch?
Hi Chris, Yes you can stretch stitch both in a straight line, a number of decorative stretch stitches as well as the overlock stitch. I have used Janome machines for 40 years - nothing too complicated with this one. Light weight, easy to thread, not too noisy and multiple functions. My original machine would have been the equivilent to this model and I made multiple stretch fabric garments for children, curtains for three houses, sewed denim, leather and thick furnishing fabrics. No problem with any of this and only had to replace the machine (after 30 years) when the foot would no longer engage. Had no hesitation in purchasing another Jenome. Hope this helps
Regards Gail
