Janome MyLock 644D Questions & Answers
VerifiedCan anyone tell me please , how many stitches per minute is the My Lock 644D capable of doing? Thank you.
Just checked the Janome site and it says 1300 spm.
How much
I have a MY Lock Janome overlooked 1995 model . How much would it be worth?
Is there such a thing as combined overlocker and sewing machine in one?
In the 1970's Janome produced a Combi 10 but as the model name indicates, it only had 10 stitches and the buttonholes were 4 step and from memory the overlocker was only 2 thread. I have seen another model mentioned but not sure if it was only available in the US or if it was available here as well.
If you can find a Combi 10 for sale now, expect to pay at least Au$700++ (depending on condition). Parts of the moulded plastic casing will, more than likely, be discoloured to a dark yellow or brown, depending how it was stored and finding parts will be a lucky dip as a 'parts machine' will cost just as much as a working model from what I've seen.
A sewing machine and an overlocker form stitches in different ways, just look under the covers!
Hope this helps?
I am after a foot controller for a Janome My lock 644D I have misplaced mine. My email address is [contact details removed] and on Christchurch New Zealand, my cell is [contact details removed]
What's the difference between the blue one and they grey spotty one?
Blue was the original colour on this model and gold is the more recent, both machines are identical. Having said that, the gold decals are totally covered when the waste bin is connected so you don't even see it, the blue model has another decal on the waste bin.
Personally I don't like the blue but that's just personal preference, as this model is simple to thread and use, and more importantly stitches perfectly. HTH
HI I live in Southport area, I bought a Janome 644D have had it a few years, and hardly used it. I need to use it now, but am unsure how, and also the adjustments of the stitches. I need help or a few lessons. Does anyone know as to where I can get some lessons? Thanks Louisa
YouTube has quite a few videos. You could also get in touch with the dealer where you purchased it, they may have classes...can't be sure, but would be worth asking. Good luck ;-)
Outside of your dealer I would suggest YouTube videos on how to use an overlocker.
any comments on 644d overlocker compared to 744d. which one is better ?
The 744D is a newer version of the 644D; the most significant difference is that the 744D has a free-arm. What the free arm does is allow you to remove a plate and serge around cylindrical areas like cuffs, trouser legs, bag tops, etc. more easily. Just my opinion but I hope it helps.
Is this machine relatively quiet?? I have heard some other brands are noisy!!
It's definitely much quieter than most overlockers, moreso if you use it on a non-slip mat. You can buy a Janome mat at the dealer but I've used foam-backed carpet and found it excellent. Another thing I use is the non-slip placemats or the non-slip sheeting that is used under floor rugs and use these under all of the machines. The 644D is a fantastic overlocker and never misses a beat with perfect stitching every time. ;-)
Wear can I get spear parts?
The retailer that sells you the machine usually carries spare parts and has a repairman to carry out the repair/replacement. Or can order parts for you if not in stock or at least direct you to another retailer that does.
What is the price of the 644D please?
I paid $500 on special- was $700 or $800 full price.
Around $500 (on sale).
I paid 599 with staff discount
I have been given an old Janome 644D but it has instructions on VHS. Where can I get a manual or DVD on how to use it?
The internet should have a manual for you to look at. Even try you-tube for instructions.
Yes the internet have this manual for you to download, just type in janome 644d instruction manual.

When using the rolled hem the threada keep breaking . Having the machine serviced has made no difference Help!?!
Poor or cheap thread will break in the machines. Not only Sergers/overlockers but sewing machines pull firmly on the thread, and if the thread is of a poor quality, it will break. High quality thread is more expensive, however it is more durable and thus greatly reduces (or completely eliminates in some cases) the thread breaking headache.
The thread I use is from Rasant. They are a bit more expensive but I have not had any issues with thread breakage.
I don't know where you live, so I do not know if this is the best high quality thread in your area. Ask around, ask at the small alterations shops, professional dressmaking and tailoring shops, ask them. If they all use the same brand of thread, or a particular brand keeps being repeated, go for that one.
Used good quality thread
How much are they.
the Janome is $799.00
