Lenovo ThinkPad X100e / Mini 10 Questions & Answers
VerifiedHow do I reset my password from the start screen where I log in on? I made the password when I was 7... I forgot it
I can't log in to my det windows 7 Lenovo ThinkPad, as I have forgotten my username and password. Can anyone help me to log in? My hotmail address is maddie_Mirfin@hotmail.com if you can email me with information reguarding this. Thanks
Unless you are able to contact the school from which your laptop was issued in an attempt to have your password reset, There is not much that you can do i'm afraid. There is a System ADMIN password required to make BIOS changes, and to get into command prompt for an IT professional from your schools IT department to reset your windows 7 username password manually. This is the only way to make this change, otherwise the laptop is nothing more than a paper weight. I found this out the hard way :(
Hope that this helps.
Micheal
Thankyou so much anyway for your time and support. I really appreciate it Michael, you've been a great help!
Hi Maddie, give up on Windows 7, it is too slow on a very basic netbook such as the Lenovo Mini 10. In my case, I downloaded Linux Mint (Rosa), 32 bit version from the internet and installed it on an 8GB USB stick. Linux Mint is a free operating system that can be 'skinned' to make it look like any version of Windows (XP, Vista, 7, 8.1, 10) and works in exactly the same way. Being a much smaller operating system, than Windows, it runs a lot faster too. Once installed on the USB stick, I was able to install it directly on the Mini-10's hard drive, overwriting Windows completely.
Linux Mint comes stock standard with an email client (Thunderbird), a full Office Suite (LibreOffice) as well as graphics editors (GIMP), multimedia players (VLC) and a couple of decent internet browsers (Firefox and Chromium). Unlike Windows, Linux is a very secure operating system which is virtually virus-free, no need to make the antivirus companies rich. It is built on Unix, the operating system of mainframe computers. Linux's various System Tools are powerful but easy to use.
Being Open Source, Linux updates are always free, and you can update in your own time, without having to put up with messages to save everything because Windows is about to do an update. It is the perfect operating system for any small Netbook PC that is a few years old and not running up to scratch anymore.
