LIBERTY FINANCE = AVOID THESE ABSOLUTE + UTTER MORONS LIKE THE PLAGUE - I don't know how they manage to even put their own socks on. I was over $124,000 in advance on my residential mortgage + I have a credit rating of 1,000 out of 1,000 but a note to call them appeared on my file when I endeavoured to re-draw $4,000 for an investment upgrade… Read more
(with another FI) with a view to selling. Theyd emailed me on 19th December 2025 asking if I'd like to defer my residential payments and I responded that I didn't. Although calling from Melbourne 3 x times from 8.10am, I got a recording stating they don't take calls until 8am (???). When I then spoke to a rude and unprofessional diva at 8.35am she claimed they'd been taking calls from within Victoria from 8am. I asked for a supervisor but she said there weren't any there and no resolution was found and she then hung up on me when I questioned and complained about this and her attitude. I then rang back and after a 39 minute call, [Name Removed] told me that there was a problem with "arrears from 2023". Gobsmacked, I said this wasn't correct and surely any "arrears" could be deducted from the $124,000+ I had in advance. She then said they'd emailed me but I hadn't responded. When I pointed out that I had responded the same day and advised that I didn't wish to defer any payments, she then said she'd found that email and put me on hold while she spoke to the Residential Team but subsequently couldn't advise as to why this error had occurred and apparently this famous Residential Team had a further waiting time and I had to get on after already wasting so much of my time. I have received no response to my email to them dated 8th January 2026 but [Name Removed] then adjusted my file herself to eliminate this ludicrous issue. My dog could run an FI better than Liberty Finance but at least [Name Removed] was nice.

1/10 - they were GREAT until about 1 year ago. I discharged my loan and was charged just under $1,000 to do this where it says the discharge fee is $395 My discharge was an overpayment so there should have been no interest and it was sitting there for 18 days and then I was still charged 14 days worth of interest even though I had overpaid. I… Read more
tried to call three times once for the discharge form a second time for the discharge form and a third time to try and find out the exact payout figure even though I had already overpaid the total. Each call the wait was at least 45 to 1 and 1/2 hours before speaking to someone. I would not recommend them to anyone just because they're impossible to get hold of if you have any problems.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised like all lenders they make the sign up and the initial loan very easy but to pay it out is very difficult. At least with an Australian bank you can walk into a branch and to get it sorted out directly.
Very disappointed ending as they were great a few years ago when I set up the loan. They just seem extremely short on staff and no one cares anymore.

We have been buying and selling property for over 20 years, and unfortunately, our experience with Liberty Financial has been the most disappointing of any lender we’ve dealt with. We lodged a complaint with the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) regarding incorrect charges applied to our mortgages, and a financial settlement was… Read more
awarded in our favour.
We are now in the process of refinancing and, regrettably, preparing to lodge a second AFCA complaint for similar issues.
Based on our experience, we would caution others to carefully consider their options before proceeding with Liberty Financial.
UPDATE: I have since left Liberty and the difference in customer service and my online banking experience with my new lender is astounding. I've since kicked off my complaint to AFCA about my issues with Liberty and I am looking forward to finally closing this chapter with this unscrupulous lender.
Used them for a home loan. They were good at first. After the first month hello interest rates where dropping but liberty where increasing rates. This happened month after month almost put me at breaking point. I talked to them many times about getting ripped off. Last Conversation was they laughed at me and said welcome to liberty. 10% home loan rate. Absolute joke. Show details

Never sign a home loan with this company – Never sign a home loan with this company. I sold my property and settled over two weeks ago, yet they still charged me a mortgage payment! Never Again! If I could give zero I would! – So I back in late June after 2yrs with liberty I requested an offset account for my home loan. Didn't have one at the start. This was set up with an email saying how much I can transfer and all the ins and out and I could access it whenever I needed - I was advised do an offset and that's where I put my money in etc. Which was why I did it… Read more
anyways, I had transferred all of my savings, not quite 10k but close because that would help a single mother and her mortgage. The other day I used the card and was needing to pay a motel cost, and noticed there was only just over $1008 available in there, the card started to bounce. I was stuck in another city with 2 little kids, and where I went to use my card they said sorry it says you don’t have enough. I pay more of my mortgage off each month than the monthly repayment and have not received correspondence around any mortgage repayments being late, however when liberty was rang they had said I was more than an entire mortgage repayment behind? I had a large amount of money sitting in an offset but I had just paid the largest amount of interest? When liberty was rang they had said I could not access any money until I had paid the sum which was more than what I pay on a mortgage repayment, because I obviously have money.
I had said I had not had any correspondence with arrears, they said I needed to go through bank statements in that case, but could not access any money and was stuck in another city with 2 little kids, with absolutely no money. I had to borrow money and in the end pay money that liberty said I owed no documentation, and still to this day couldn’t give any answer on even though I pay more than my monthly repayments? I was told I signed an agreement at the start - I did not Sign any agreement around offsets at the start because i didn't have have one. But the fact that I had paid most interest with money sitting in a liberty offset compared to when I didn't is questionable? no arrears letters however still they withheld access to my money until I paid the sum they demanded to release the rest of my funds which now has left some health bills for children unpaid and a surgery that can now not go ahead. I withdrew all funds from liberty as they will withhold whenever it suits, and never want to be in that position again! Needless to say AFCA will be underway because they don’t even feel like they should provide any evidence or correspondence you only just happen to find out, and apparently can only go through statements? I only found out because I needed to access funds oblivious to what liberty had done. Extremely disappointed, and will move on as quickly as possible

The worst i’ve encountered – Agreed with Jim!! WARNING STAY AWAYIN MY OPINION their service is shocking! Definitely check your Credit File! sitting in offset and that's hardship! Putting hardship is not the truth and it should not happen. It will affect any ability for any future loan!! Very low act. I only found out because my interest rate with liberty most people cringed and I have a broke friend who wanted to help me to refinance so I could add my car. My property is worth double than what I owe them but they said no. So because they choose to put hardship down for a missed payment that they organised on the wrong day, getting any loan for a car was difficult let alone refinancing with anyone because of what they have done!! Again exactly as Jim says————- They “shoot first and ask questions later “. and I too cannot wait to refinance to another Bank after what they have done Trapped with high interest rates of 7.49% — and no doubt will end higher yet. I mean they won’t even refinance just the amount I have or make any adjustment.. They just want the high interest rates. A single mum in this position and they take advantage! Shocking and i would not recommend - can’t wait to leave them

WARNING STAY AWAY – IN MY OPINION their service is terrible. Warning-check your Credit File. They put a “hardship “ and “missed repayment “ on my file which were both WRONG. Liberty Financial's Interest Rates: A Roller Coaster Ride to Financial Absurdity – Prepare yourself for a wild journey through the twisted realm of interest rates, courtesy of Liberty Financial. When it comes to mind-boggling loan terms and astonishing percentage points, this institution has truly mastered the art of leaving customers perplexed and questioning the laws of mathematics. Picture this: you unfortunately contact… Read more
Liberty Financial seeking a loan, your hopes high and dreams within reach. However, the moment they unveil their interest rates, it feels as if reality temporarily bends. You would think they accidentally typed an extra zero or two, but alas, this is their version of financial "norm."
The interest rates resemble a roller coaster ride that defies all logic and reason. One moment you're climbing the precipice of sanity, convinced that you've secured a reasonable rate; the next, you're plummeting into the depths of disbelief as the digits on the contract leave you wondering if you've stumbled into a twilight zone where basic arithmetic has been abolished.
It is fascinating how Liberty Financial has managed to craft interest rates that are so ridiculously outlandish, you would assume they've formed a secret alliance with the laws of nature. Stepping foot into their establishment transports you to a parallel universe where the concept of fair and just pricing takes a backseat to a cosmic spectacle of astonishment.
To add insult to pecuniary injury, their explanations for these astronomical rates border on the absurd. Their representatives seem determined to test the limits of human comprehension, as they attempt to justify these numbers with a blend of jargon, half-truths, and a sprinkle of irony. It's as if they believe that by confounding you with complicated explanations, you will accept their usurious rates with a confused smile.
As I reflect on the experience, I can't help but marvel at the audacity displayed by Liberty Financial. They have managed to turn something as mundane as interest rates into a surreal, almost comical venture. If you have a penchant for financial circus acts and enjoy feeling like you're caught in a never-ending episode of "The Twilight Zone: Banking Edition," then Liberty Financial might just be the perfect match for your masochistic financial aspirations.
However, if you prefer reasonable rates that align with the norms of the known universe, and a financial experience that doesn't leave you questioning your own sanity, I implore you to steer clear of Liberty Financial's realm of absurd interest rates. Protect your financial future from these gravity-defying numerical roller coasters and seek solace in the realm of sanity.

Atrocious customer service...again – Weeks ago now, I informed Liberty that there was an issue with my interest only loan, as the balance was increasing over time, instead of remaining as per the initial borrowed amount. called again having to go over the same issue. Again, they couldn't resolve the issue on the spot, so the operator informed me he would personally be in touch with me (provided email, phone number) once he had the answer from the relevant department. About 10-14 days have gone by, and still no answer. I will no doubt have to call again, only to explain the situation again,(as they never seem to have details recorded in their system), and then wait for a call or email that never arrives.
