Mazda 121 DW (1996-2002) Questions & Answers
Hello I own a Mazda 121 1997 Metro Hatchback My Gas strut that holds up my Boot/hatch have failed me.
I am trying to remove them, to install new ones. The top part is straight forward, removing two bolts on a bracket. But the bottom part, I just can't remove. There is no pin to release, it looks as though it is secured into the body of the car, just a round solid steel end piece. With the coupling sitting inside it
Please help, I am open to instructions. - Very frustrating
Thank You Bruce
I have a Mazda 121 1997. The it is left to idle the revs go. But when you put your foot on the brakes the revs go up and down continually. Any hints would be much appreciated ... thanks John
Air sensor can be an issue
Can parts of 2000 model fit 1997 model like bumper and bonnet
Sorry - don't know for sure but I'd be surprised if they did not - there were minor changes between the models DW1 and DW2 but they were mainly cosmetic, such as grill pattern and tail light composition but the spaces appear to be the same. Good luck - they were great little cars ! Cheers- Wombat
Hi guys , I own a 97 metro 5speed . When I take off from a standing start it splatters until the revs pick up . Fuel tank is always full .
Question is would that be a fuel pump issue or something else ? Cheers
Hi Shaun. Fortunately, I never experienced that problem with mine but from your description I would suspect it is fuel pump or injection system and would need a good mechanic to sort it out. Good luck. Wombat.

will a 2000 model mazda 121 metro head light fit a 1998 one i broke my head light and all i could find is one for a 2000 model
did you find out ?
I have a 1999 Mazda 121 Metro. I've had the head replaced twice in 2 years, burnt valves both times. When I've got the air conditioning going it stalls at traffic lights. I keep my car regularly serviced by a mechanic. Anybody got any idea why this is happening? Is it a common problem with this model?
Cant say I ever had this kind of problem with my Mazda 121, I found the mechanics very good no problems at all , it was just getting a bit old and shabby looking, the most annoying thing I found was trying to get the seats flat to convert the back for carrying large items. Took forever
and just so complicated. Sorry I cannot help but have you tried the Mazda people themselves? Best of luck
I have the exact same problem, and under all the same circumstances (full service history, same age, etc). It sometimes does it without the air con on and it's hot, but most common when the air con is on. Myself and the previous owner have asked many mechanics but many cant find the problem. It's seems to have been better since we got the timing belt replaced, but still happens on occasion. One question, is yours the 1.3L? Because I think a mechanic did say it was more common for it to happen with these engines as it can't cope with all that power! And another question, is yours the shades edition? Because mine is and that added air conditioning. I'm suggesting maybe because the original editions weren't made to cope with an air con. Hope this helps.
Thanks, mavis99. It helps immensely. Yes, it is the shades edition. I'll look into this. Hubby drove it to Melbourne on the weekend with me as the turner offerer of a/c at the traffic lights. It didn't stall once. :-)
Happy to help.
This problem may be that the head has been too severely shaved when it has been re coed, leading to a higher compression ratio. You will get more power but create problems like gasket failure and valves getting hot and burning out
My 98 121 was running fine n the next time i started it, it started blowing lots of smoke out the exhaust under throttle? What have i done 8-O
Sorry I have no idea, take it to Mazda . We have just sold ours as although the engine was running well
the body was beginning to look shabby and it started to rattle.
