How refreshing when you state that you will contact me in 10 days and you actually do and with my claim processed.
I claimed on medical expenses which occured whilst I was overseas.
In the past I had to battle for 6 months with another travel insurance company and that included me having to constantly call and email them. I will be sticking with Medibank travel insurance from now on.
A positive experience for loss of personal effect.
Recewntly traveling to Phukett I had lost 2 sets of glasses. Retracing my steps & not being able to locate I had no choice but to make a claim once I returned home. On supplying all the factual information that included local police & hotel report, reciepts of my purchases & a time line of what had happened, I recieved a fast response saying it would be 10 days till the claim was processed. True to this fact I recieved a letter of approval within that period. The process was fast & easy. I have been using Medibank travel insurance for 10 ye...ars when travelling overseas & have not had to make any claims , but when it was needed , it was worth the investment for peace of mind. Highly competative in price. In my experince, I highly recommend this service.
Skiing accident with delayed charges
I've been on the annual policy with snow cover for few years now, as I found the cover is comprehensive for my peace of mind. Glad I did, someone in the family unfortunately had an accident skiing during our latest holiday to Canada. One of the service providers is unbelievably very slow in issuing invoice whilst the 60 days period to lodge a claim after the incident was only few days away. I called in a couple of times to make sure that Medibank Claims team knows our situation, I was impressed with both staff that I spoke to - knowledgeable, u...nderstanding and reassuring. I've just received the news that my claim has been successfully processed, and fingers crossed, the same with the charge that is yet to arrive in the future. Thank you, Medibank!
Avoid Medibank - Cancellation Costs
I purchased a Annual Multi-trip overseas travel insurance with Medibank. My domestic flights in overseas destination were cancelled by the airlines for no fault of mine and I was stranded. I had to buy much expensive tickets at short notice to continue with the journey. I thought i had cover with medibank travel insurance for cancellation costs. After I made the claim i was advised by Medibank that they do not pay for cancellation by transport service provider unless its due to a strike/industrial action. When I bought this travel insurance, th...e sales guy said we pay more claims than anyone else as they are part of Zurich Insurance. That was crap, I realize now that was sales talk, when it comes to being fair & reasonable - Medibank you need to learn a lot from other insurers - who pay for cancellation costs even if caused by Airlines for no fault off the traveler. I was not at fault and I had a significant out of pocket for cancellation costs which you expect any reasonable & fair insurer would pay as it was not due to my fault. But not medibank. If you are looking for travel Insurance (Domestic & Overseas), my advice is Stay away from Medibank (Zurich). First time and last time I bought travel cover with medibank / Zurich Insurance. I now realise why ratings for Medibank travel insurance is 2.8. I will give them minus 10 if I can. Medibank/Zurich Stop Selling travel insurance and exclude Cancellation costs completely - that will be fair & reasonable as it will not lead people to believe that they are covered and find that when you make a claim, the most basic risk of cancellation costs due to airlines changing their mind is not covered. It is abhorrent and untrust worthy. Will any one rely on the Brand "MEDIBANK/ZURICH" any more.
Will use Medibank travel insurance again
We have traveled overseas many times and have never had to make a claim until recently when my wife fell ill. Very glad we switched to Medibank insurance. Made claim when we got home, wrote explanatory notes, set out clearly what we were claiming, got documents from our travel agent and had our GP do his bit. Sent the lot off and were quickly advised that our claim was being assessed and within days notified of its acceptance and then received the refund in 3 days. Very impressed.
Great peace of mind and claim turnaround
Easy to set up. Claimed for being sick on our holiday - submitted online. Procedure was lengthy which I understand they have to verify your receipts/invoices with your story. Received a confirmation email that the claim was submitted successfully and that they would get back to me within 10 business days.
Got back to me within 10 days and my claim was accepted.
Easy, no hassle. Will be using this travel insurance for future trips.
Terrible prolonged claim
My flight home from Thailand was cancelled and I had to purchase additional flights as I am a Midwife and had to be in the country for a birth. Two months later still waiting for my claim. I am a gold
level Medibank health insurance customer but apparently the loyalty doesnt cross over to travel insurance. Really disappointed. Have sent follow emails going on two weeks now and havent heard anything.
Great Travel Insurance
My claim came about as my wife passed away prior to the planned cruise. The cruise line would only refund less than half of the total cost. I contacted Medibank Travel Insurance and found them very helpful by sending me the claim forms. I was able to complete the claim forms and provide the required documents. The claim was accepted and I was very happy with receiving the full amount of the claim less the $250 excess. I would have no hesitation in recommending Medibank Travel Insurance to friends etc. As I plan taking a holiday to Thailand, be assured I will be taking out your Travel Insurance.
Easy to claim, need lots of Evidence
Was easy to make a claim, asked for lots of supporting docs so make sure to read terms & conditions. The claim was resolved in a timely manner. Customer service could be better. However everything else was good.
You have to have a go (at a leg break) to get a go (at insurance claims).
We have been a customer of this product every year for 4 years. We have had 2 claims; one for missed flights and one for a medical emergency. Both times we were refunded for our out of pocket expenses, methodically and systematically. It is a good value product for global travellers and Medibank
Our last claim was for my breaking a leg in Iceland. Just bad luck . A small slide down a glacial rubble embankment and 1 leg hit a rock and twisted it to a funny angle I've not seen before. . A quick drive (2 hours) down the road to a local village ...and the doctor splinted it and supplied arm crutches ($$$). A very swollen broken ankle needing surgery. I sat in the back of our 4WD for the next 4 days taking pain killers while the swelling went down and we completed the drive arround Iceland. Glorius , mystical country! How do we resolve this? Never had a break before and needed my travelling partners every assistance. The moment things come undone like this, start your own archive of doctors reports/ receipts/ names and locations. (Get emailed copies sent to you.) Keep track of your hotel cancellations or date changes. Most importantly, make contact with the claims deprtment of tyhe Travel Insurer. Give them your comms details that you may be using in your host country. Iceland is expensive for everything incluing phone and data.. So, After we got th the Reykjavik Main A&E hospital for assessment we were advised to get home asap otherwise an operation would result in me suffering post operative DVT problems with air travell. Reports were written by doctors and emailed to the insurers medical team. In 2 days we flew out of Rejkyavik howeward bound to OZ. The moment I landed I presented at A&E in Mater Hospital Brisbane. 2 days later I had surgery with more pins than a tailor could use. Medical/ Hospital expenses in OZ are not covered.. Thank you Medibank Travel Insurance for your care and cover.
Shocking experience. Pregnancy complications forced a cancellation however a letter provided by OB was not sufficient. They wanted a GP letter instead. Due to moving cities we didnt have a GP for longer than the required 12 months as they needed to verify this was not an ongoing medical issue. Sorry, what? A specialists letter isnt good enough? Joke. The entire cover is less than impressive and the experience with the claims team terrible.
Pre Existing Conditions
We have been loyal members for over 40 years and have just been refused insurance because back in 2007 my husband had open heart surgery. My question is, how long is a patient punished for an illness that happened nearly 13 years ago. We have been all over Europe, Asia & the Pacific with no problems at all and always had insurance which covered the heart. We have applied and has been declined for a cruise around Argentina. WHY?????????????
Dont bother cause they wont pay you a cent
I have been fighting with these crooks for almost a year now . I had over $2000 in cancellation fees due to my mother having a stroke . They refuse to pay . Do not use them they are over priced and useless
I felt the policy was excellent value as it turned out.
I lodged a claim and it was covered within 2 months.
Covermore who were the underwriters for you were excellent and the nurses for Medibank were ringing me every day.
Excellent service would definitely recommend and use you again.
Issue still not resolved
Claim took 11 days to assess and I was asked for additional information which was irrelevant to the claim. I called to ask why it was needed and they could not provide an explanation and the claims assessor was unavailable. I was promised a call back within 24 hours and heard nothing. I called myself and was told the assessor was not in but again they could not tell me why I needed to provide additional information but maybe I had provided too many documents or my insurance didn’t cover the days I was away- both of which were untrue. I requeste...d to have this escalated as it was completely unacceptable and the claim was partially paid within an hour. They refused to pay for a taxi I had to get to the airport in time for the replacement flight I had to book which cost $300 as they felt it happened after the claim. My flight was cancelled at 11am and I got a taxi at 4pm in the afternoon to make the replacement flight. The claim starts when the flight is cancelled at 11am. Also unsure as to who in their right mind would pay $300 for a taxi unless it was absolutely necessary. I called to discuss my concerns and i was told to send another email which would be assessed in 10 days. I asked for this to escalated and the reply was “I’m not sure where it could be escalated to.” I’m very unhappy with the customer service provided. I am considering taking this to AFCA.
Medibank Travel insurance does what it should - you can rely on it
My wife and I have just received the good news that our claim for the cost of a holiday to China cancelled for medical reasons had been paid in full by Medibank Travel Insurance. We had expected delays, red tape and a long list of questions, but there was none of that. The claim, for just under $3000, was paid without fuss and without red tape, in remarkably quick time. The insurance policy turned out to have been excellent value and well worth the money. I have only ever had one previous claim, more than 20 years ago for a theft from a hire ca...r, and that was refused. So my expectations this time were not high. Since that claim, with another company, we have only ever used Medibank Travel and we thoroughly recommend it. It takes the stress out of travel.
Simple claim but fully satisfied with process and result this time.
Have travelled three times to USA, Europe and UK and made two claims. First claim 3 years ago was problematic, but eventually resolved in my favour. This small recent claim was handled without fuss. I would use Medibank again.
Travel insurance is NOT travel insurance
We travelled overseas and where supposed to have Back-To-Back cruises on the same ship. Half way through the first cruise the sip broke down and as a result the cruise ship required dry-dock and the rest of the fist trip and the second trip were cancelled necessitation we return home. A claim was submitted and declined upon our return.
My sister and I had planned a cruise, 2 months prior to departure, she suffered an injury. My only issue with the process being the absence of the release documents for the travel agent and GP, it would have been far quicker if all the required documents were provided at the outset, rather than wait for them to be requested. I would, however recommend this company.
Excellent Experience. Simple and Responsive
This was the first time I have used the Medibank Travel Insurance.
I had a hire car issue overseas and needed to make a claim.
Very impressed by the simplicity of the Online Claim Portal. Equally impressed by the very prompt and positive response in settlement of the claim
