for “trip cancellations caused by the carrier or service provider,” which is precisely the situation we found ourselves in.

The rejection rationale didn’t even make sense. We booked our Bali flight 12months earlier, we encountered an issue that caused 1 extra day accomodation, MEDIBANK PRIVATE INSURANCE decided they are not responsible for this issue - this reeks of opportunistic interpretation designed to avoid a legitimate payout.

We did everything required as policyholders: we booked in good faith, notified their team promptly, and provided all supporting documentation. We actually were told by the Medibank Insurance Support Team at the time of the issue we would be fully covered for the extra day accomodation plus food.

To then be dismissed on the basis of some obscure or reinterpreted clause is unacceptable and deeply unethical. We trusted Medibank to provide peace of mind while travelling, and instead, we’ve been met with obstruction and a blatant disregard - truly disgusting behaviour especially over an amount less than $1,000.

For all would be travellers out there - look ELSEWHERE for your insurance requirements. Medibank Private Insurance cannot be relied upon but will be very happy to accept your money.

months to process it despite my constant phone calls. It is impossible to speak to anyone except the receptionist, and they are taught to be obstructionist, so you can't get to the person you need. It was like drawing teeth. Worse than smashing my head open during that fall. Ultimately, they sent me a paltry $350 and didn't pay the hospital. Leaving me to do it. The bill was $1500, and I just paid it as Medibank Travel Insurance were so difficult to deal with I couldn't go through more dealings with them. I would never use them again, and I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THEM to some poor unsuspecting traveller.

cancel an Alaska trip (inc. cruise) at the last minute, due to a medical incident associated with a declared pre-existing condition. Due to the very late notice of our cancellation, our cruise incurred a loss of 100 % of the total cost paid and there were other costs associated with flights and accommodations which were only partially refundable.

We submitted an insurance claim for these hefty cancellation costs. The claim process took 4 months and required a significant amount of supporting medical paperwork with several requests to re-supply information already supplied (hampered by not having a consistent point of contact or claim manager), however, we did eventually receive a settlement for the full amount of the cancelled cruise, as well as the other cancellation costs associated with flights and accommodation. They covered the costs for both my husband (who had suffered the medical incident) and myself as the fellow traveller on the cancelled bookings.

Whilst waiting for our claim to be resolved we did see a lot of the negative reviews here and began to worry a bit, but happily our claim was fully honoured and we felt we should share our experience here.

The best decision I've ever made – Purchased travel insurance for a trip to the USA in November 2022. During my trip I slipped on a grate and injured my leg causing extreme swelling and an inability to walk or bend my knee. assistance line the next day and had multiple agents by my side the remainder of my trip to assist in cost coverage and repatriation. The 24 hour assistance line had nurses and registered practitioners available to assist who suggested another visit to a hospital or doctor for a DVT consultation and also automatically took it upon themselves to find me an alternative seat where I could elevate my leg for the whole flight home. If you want to feel safe and assured that you will be able to return home if injured while on holiday, Medibank travel insurance (comprehensive) is the best route to take. Cannot recommend them enough. Will never choose another provider, they have my loyalty for life.

Medibank / Travel insurance Partners has been quite frustrating and time consuming - the standard response is they are still negotiating with the hospital and will not provide a clear date on when that process will be resolved. I need travel back to the US shortly, Medibank / Travel insurance partners have advised that its fine for me to travel but will not acknowledge or provide indemnity for my up coming trip should I be refused entry to the US because of the outstanding balance.

Frustrating! The website is not working properly it kept saying claim not found. Do I had to email the documents in their generic email. Their reply time is minimum 2 weeks. Flybondi has put us in an earlier flight & cancelled our original flight without giving notice. They only operate 1 flight so we had to fork out $600 USD to get on another airline to Buenos Aires. Flybondi another useless company would not do a refund either. Medibank says they will only pay me if the airline had a strike. I always use Medibank when I travel since 2002 because we have private health cover with them. On all those 22 years this would be my first claim and it’s not even a lot of money. Medibank DON’T PAY comprehensive travel insurance. AVOID at all cost. Because of this I switch to another health insurance.

everything AGAIN, they sent another letter saying they had not heard from us. We contacted them again and they said yes they had the letter. DOES ANYBODY COMMUNICATE WITH EACH OTHER? I have called at least 5 times, and have gotten an overseas call center, unfortunately difficult to communicate as English is a second language. Every time they refer to their original letter requesting irrelevant information (which we have responded to). It's incredibly frustrating, I am repeatedly told that they cannot transfer me, and there are no managers or supervisors for me to speak to. So how do I resolve this? What am I supposed to do? Super easy to get this insurance but that is where it ends. I have been a member of Medibank Private for 36 years but I will be transferring my membership to a different fund because this is dodgy. Definitely do not you use this company. I will be referring my claim to the AFCA and anybody else that I think will be able to assist. #My daughter has (twice) given permission for me to act on her behalf.

the issue and one my doctor back in Australia after 20 days I was told the second report was needed. The response time is 10 days at a time not 10 days from claim to pay out. I call their claims team and I have to call back later on as they are in another state and it has been outsourced to get an update. Currently over $6000 out of pocket and Medibank cannot advise when this will be reimbursed as it has now been with their medical team for 14 Days. They also cannot advise where in the process my claim is or when this will be paid. This is completely unacceptable.

initial purchase of the items we had stolen (we did not have this but did have a police report) then we were told to submit the cost of replacement items (which we already submitted) and were told that an international police report was insufficient proof of our initial items. Honestly, a massive run around and the least thing that you want. Companies prey on the fact that it is going to be a hassle and they give you the run around in the hope that, like me, you cut your losses and give up trying to make a claim. Do NOT purchase travel insurance from Medibank! Terrible mistake!

claim was supposed to be processed in 10 business days. After Medibank requested additional time, one of our medical incidents was approved in October, but there was no communication on the other medical incident and the cancelled flight. We raised a complaint with Medibank over the phone in October and again in writing in November. Our complaints were ignored, and we received no response from Medibank other than an automatic email acknowledging receipt of our written complaint. After months of no response from Medibank, we contacted the Australian Financial Complaint Authority and raised a complaint through them in late January. We finally heard back from Medibank’s Internal Dispute Resolution that they received our AFCA complaint, and our claim was approved and settled in February 2023. We invested an enormous amount of time and energy over six months to resolve a basic claim following Medibank’s advice and processes throughout. I simply do not have the words to adequately express the frustration and stress we experienced. I would advise potential customers DO NOT PURCHASE MEDIBANK TRAVEL INSURANCE. I’m convinced that had it not been for the AFCA, Medibank would have simply ignored us until we gave up. Thank goodness for AFCA!

I cant see anything here as to the reason for not fully approving the claim" I had to escalate the claim twice until someone from internal disputes approved my claim, then they processed the pay on 21/12/2023 said the payment will reach my bank within 3 business days. After 7 business days I called and was told to follow up with my bank and they gave me a reference number which the bank said was useless as the money had definitely not reached my account and was not even pending. I called back and asked how the transfer was made and to confirm the bank details - once again people on the phone could not help, could not transfer me to anyone and resulted in them telling me to email claims department and that they have supposedly contacted the finance team. I believe they are either completely corrupt or severely incompetent. It has now been 5 months since my belongings went missing and I am yet to be compensated, never again will I use them and I will be changing my private health cover as well as they are not to be trusted.

Covid. After 10 days nothing. I called and they keep saying they are busy because of covid but it was getting ridiculous now, two months later they are requesting more information so they can assess my claim. It's been more than 2 months since I submitted my claim. First, they took my money in less than 5min, had no communication for more than a month, and now they need information so they can assess. I will never deal with them again.... and I would actively discourage anyone else from doing so.

airline lost my luggage (which was completely out of my control). I arrived home, and as a 23 year old who had just gone on a significantly expensive Europe trip, wasn't quite financially equipped. I put in my claim with medicare to be compensated for my lost luggage and the rules and regulations were that the claims team would respond to the claim within 10 business days.

After patiently waiting quite a few business days whilst recovering from my trip i started to of course need the necessities that were in my bag for personal and work purposes, such as my laptop, beard trimmer, all clothing, shoes, toiletries and many other items. From the 3rd of July - to the 12th i spent days upon days dealing with the OFFSHORE call centre who could not of been less help. They made millions of promises that they would call me back with further details about my case and never did, would constantly lie and tell me they didn't have supervisors throughout their department - which they did.

I was finally passed onto a supervisor after 9 business days with no results keeping in mind I had been told there were none in the department. The supervisor continued to make promises which he did not live up to.

After 13 business days the claims team had responded to my claim, however only telling me i needed to send further information to them and that they would inspect this information after 10 MORE BUSINESS DAYS. After this had happened i sent the information immediately and spent the next 3 weeks calling this offshore customer service department trying to resolve my claim still without my bag. Throughout those 3 weeks i was dealing with the supervisor only and would be calling nearly every business night with apologies and promises I would receive a call back the next day with a hopeful resolution to my case. of course this never happened, meaning I would have to call back and wait 30 minutes on hold to speak to him again.

After that 3 week period i was very lucky and received my bag back in Sydney. As I had been felt like less then a priority i left it up to them to give me a call with their update so i could further tell them my bad had arrived. I waited nearly 3 weeks and had heard nothing at all. I called up after nearly 3 weeks and several members including the supervisor couldn't provide me with any reason at all as to why i hadn't received a call. As i had spent around $500 buying necessities to insure i could shave and have clothing such as underwear and t shirts available to me whilst my bag was gone i still needed to be compensated for this. I spent a week longer attempting to resolve this issue and the call centre continued to stuff me around with fake promises the entire time.

AFTER 37 BUSINESS DAYS, I finally received an email telling me that i wouldn't t be compensated for a thing. I have so much more to go on about with regards to the service of this company, but am so exhausted I cant type many more words.

OVERALL DO NOT GO WITH MEDIBANK FOR YOUR TRAVEL INSURANCE. - COMPLETE THIEFS OF A COMPANY.

the policy I was pleasantly surprised by the transparency of inclusions/exclusions in the Medibank travel insurance policy, but unfortunately, this was the last of the positive experiences....

A few days before our trip I had a fall which left me in hospital with broken ribs, a collapsed lung and certified by a doctor unable to fly. We were lucky that the majority of our trip could be rescheduled free of charge, however we incurred extra cost to change our flights, lucky of course that we had comprehensive travel insurance to cover this..... Alas, Medibank has not lived up to the expectations set out in their PDS. I took time from my hospital bed to go above & beyond in our claim, providing 10 different attachments to clearly outline context, certification & clarity about the claim. It has now been 51 days since my claim and I am yet to receive an outcome. After countless hours on hold and speaking with customer service staff I am no closer to claiming my entitlements. This has been a real nightmare.

If you are travelling, please do not chose Medibank as your insurer, you will be left with undue stress and a lack of clarity. Again, I am a reasonable person who is very understanding, but I am utterly disappointed in this service/product and still yet to receive meaningful communications. My advice - go elsewhere!

failed to call back several times • On hold time for phone contact was on average over 1 hour with a maximum of 4 hours • Was unable or unwilling (no banking facilities connection!!) to make any direct payment to overseas service providers (rescue team and hospital) or would not accept direct billing to the insurance which required payment by me to ensure service. • Required collating all costs including exchange rates etc by the insured person and came back full of clerical and administrative errors. • Fails to respond to emails in a timely and coordinated manner and every query causes a delay of between 10 to 20 days • Unable to add up correctly and trying to charge the excess twice • Shambolic email communications by assigning different case numbers and case managers to the same incident.

were difficult and it keep getting me back to main menu. Several attempts, got through to the appropriate person. All done over phone, immediately got credit note by email. Was transferred to the Medibank staff. New policy issues in about 20 mins, credit note worked, and I paid the difference. Staff were helpful and willing to repeat things. Also happy with me saying .."let me replay that to you" .. I repeated the information and my understanding of process and actions. I was not rushed and felt that I got the service I should have as a MediBank Private member

new policy to cover the additional 3 days since no one would respond to amend my existing policy.

I've just tried to make an online claim and the website is not recognising my name or policy number even though i've copied and pasted them directly off the certificate.

So now it's come to leaving this review as it seems the only place Medibank Travel Insurance are returning messages.

Horrible Service - still waiting on claim to be processed – Don't use Medibank for travel insurance... I lodged a claim 2.5 months ago and it still has not been processed. Also sent 5 emails following up with no response from them. Just waited on hold for 2.5 hrs, only to be told I have to wait an indefinite amount of time for my claim to be processed.
