fair enough what’s it going to cost me? Quoted me $2050 for a clean. I mean WTH? Told him will think about it and got another person to come and for quoted $150 for the same thing. Metropolitans call out fee was the same as the others quote to actually service the unit. All I can say is do not use their services.
This company came out and charged a call out fee. Tech told me the unit was fixable and to have a second person come out to fix the unit for a further $1000 only to be told now at a total of $1300 that it needs to be replaced in full. are required to pay $141 upfront for the service call, whether or not you proceed with their service. Once the technician arrives at your home, this amount must be paid immediately before any inspection is done.
The service provider refused to give an estimated price range (minimum or maximum) for the cleaning service prior to visiting.
My system is a Mitsubishi refrigerated cooling and heating system (the most basic model).
I was quoted the following prices for regular cleaning service:
Basic service (Silver package): approx. $2,100
Premium service (Gold package): approx. $2,400
From a consumer psychology perspective: once you've committed to paying the $141 inspection fee, you’re more likely to accept whatever service cost they quote, rather than decline it and lose the $141 — not to mention having to start over and look for a different provider. As a result, many customers end up accepting a high service fee just to avoid the hassle of restarting the whole process.
The technician spent around 1 hour and 45 minutes at my house (from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM).
The total amount I had to pay was: $141 + $2,190 = $2,331
In my opinion, this cost is far too expensive for cleaning a single basic Mitsubishi refrigerated heating/cooling system.
I’m not writing this to complain about or praise Metropolitan Air Conditioning Melbourne. This is simply my personal experience and opinion, shared in good faith to help others who may be considering this company — so you’ll know what to expect in terms of potential costs.
One final note: when the technician arrived, they asked me to write a 5-star review on Google before the service was even done. I refused to do that — I only leave reviews after I’ve completed using the service.

for call-out. In fact, it was for a person in spotless coveralls with the company logo to come and provide us a quote. As we also have cooling, he gave us two options: servicing both cooling and heating for $2.4K or servicing the heating only for $1.2K. Mistake #2: Fell into the trap of choosing between enormous and outrageous price. We accepted the $1249 quote, assuming that an oldish system might require some work and parts. We were required to pay $75 deposit. The person to do the job was expected within an hour. Mistake #3: While waiting, should’ve read the reviews and cancelled the call. This would’ve limited the losses to $200+. The technician GT arrived in a van with a rocket on the roof saying Mr Emergency. He said that the motor driving the flap has failed in a closed position. Allegedly he force-opened the flap and set the zone to be always ON. This is the end of rationing the energy by two retired people, spending a lot of time at home. When asked if it was the motor that had failed, or the controller did not send an Open signal, we got a blank stare. When asked if it can be fixed properly, he said that we shouldn’t be bothered, as the parts cost hundreds of dollars and extra for labour. No written description of the works done was left, despite paying $59 for this. No signs of rejuvenation of the system either. The 5-star reviews are vague and don’t describe the scope of work, while the negative ones are very specific. We feel like old couple who was taken advantage of. It is not a consolation that we are not alone.
Was given a quote of $28,000 to install 2 aircon units! Unbelievable. That included completely unnecessarily replacing my switchboard for $7000. They generously offered to do the work the same day, obviously hoping I would be stupid enough to accept before checking other suppliers. I suppose enough people fall for this to make it worth their while. Utterly disgraceful.
Avoid at all costs! Overpriced and didn’t even fix the issue. I wish I had read more reviews on Reddit, A Current Affair, and OzBargain before booking. They operate under multiple business names, which should have been a red flag. it. A technician arrived at 7 PM, quoted $1,249 to "service" the air con (claiming this would likely resolve the issue), and then called another technician to perform the service an hour later. In the end, I paid $1,249 just for a diagnosis.
The real kicker? They later quoted over $7,000 to replace the system—when a quick Google search showed I could buy the same unit for around $2,000 and have it installed for $1,000.
Even worse, I later found out the unit was still under warranty! If the issue had been a manufacturing fault, the repair would have been completely free. Even if it had been a self-inflicted issue, the warranty service would have only cost $200.
It became clear this was a rip-off operation. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere!

charged for a new system by Metropolitan was about twice market rate. Despite my complaints Metropolitan have offered to refund the call out fee of $141. Still leaving me out of pocket over $4600. They prey on vulnerable, aged people. Beware. I will continue to pursue a fair refund. My partner is very distressed I was taken for a ride. Original post: Charming pirates. Paid the first guy an agreed call out fee of $140. He advised I needed two guys to come because of the unit being on the roof. I ended up paying another $4600 for two guys to come that afternoon to try to get air conditioning working on level 1 and 3 on a very hot day. They pressure cleaned cleaned a multi-head split system Midea on the roof and visually inspected it but I no repairs. All lovely guys, both worked in the rain, but said multi-head air conditioning unit needs further diagnostic work. Three quotes ranging from $6k to $20+k to fix/install entirely new system. Said based on the error messages it could be the fan, could be good the compressor, but recommended an entire new system. Business model is based on you paying through the nose for emergency work. Trade as Mr Emergency and several other names. See A Current Affair. Now waiting for another repairer. Prepared to wait for an ethical, competent professional. $730 to $1460 per hour for this work - he said thats what is charged for same day service. I have since booked with a local tradesman who charges 12% of this amount for a service.
We paid a $140 call out fee to be told that in order to have our issue diagnosed we would need to pay a further $1200 fee to service our ducted heating unit and then that doesn’t guarantee the problem being fixed. According to [Name Removed] from their bookings department it is standard practice that everyone gets charged this service fee regardless of the problem. This is a scam! Stay away from this company!

Warning About Metropolitan Plumbing & Air Conditioning – a guy came and quoted me $1249.00 for gas wall heater service, the same service I got quoted for $297 including tax from another company. It is a complete rip-off. Please avoid using them.

I have found out I was ripped off by an exorbitant amount of money for them to clean 1 air-conditioning unit. Then was quoted 10K to do a service on the 2nd one as it's on the 2nd story and the box unit is on the roof. Could of got the job done for 1/4 of what I was charged. Will be taking this further. This cannot be allowed to continue for any more unsuspecting customers. Shame on this company. Whoever you REALLY are.
Bad customer service ever!!! – They sent a guy from another company called ER emergency pluming after 2days of original booking day when I complained over the phone. He came just to see the unit and couldn’t even know the problem of the air conditioner. I paid for inspection but for nothing. He even asked he needs 1400$ for service and any broken parts extra charge. So he came to see the unit is on the roof pretty much.

These guys operate under many different names. - The website is metropolitanairconditioning.com.au - Then bookings[at]airconditioningservicenearme.au was given as the complaint email - The quote comes from plumbingngas.com.au - Technician came in a van with stickers "Mr Emergency"
It seems these guys run under a number of company names so that they can recycle through them when people call them out.

Scam Warning – Charged $140 for a call out fee, had no problem paying that as it was the weekend. they turned up spent 5 minutes taking photos and then quoted $2490 for a Evap service that did not even cover the actual problem. Their model is built on scamming people......stay well clear
Avoid – Terrible "company". Had to pay $141 callout fee to have a guy come out and say he can't go up to the roof, because it's double story (which they knew at time of booking). But he was able to give a ridiculously high quote, without even having a look at the unit. Why couldn't that same quote be given over the phone, if they weren't going to have a look at the unit, which they knew was on top of a double story house?

minutes only to be told that he could not diagnose the problem and that it could be a number of different things (which we ourselves deduced) He then told us that we would have to pay $1250 for a test and clean to see what was actually wrong or pay $10500 for a new system. We were extremely disappointed that we paid $142 with no diagnosis of the issue. I called and emailed the company with our complaint , however the response was that it was their policy to conduct the diagnostic test etc and that as a technician attended there was nothing further they could do. is wrong with it, the guy I had legit stood in front of the aircon unit (which has a cover over it) and said so what we can offer you is a rejuvenation package for $2200 and that usually fixes the problem. If that doesn't fix the problem, they will then identify that after the rejuvenation and quote you to fix that....
Our compressor had died (I ended up getting our unit repaired the compressor replaced for $2400), when I said to "technician", I can't hear the compressor what if it's just that? I first got told, yeh I can hear it running (It was f##king dead and not running) and then I got told, they'll identify if that's an issue when they do the rejuvenation. If that needs to be fixed after, that'll be extra on top.
SO WHAT IN THE HELL IS THE CALL OUT FEE FOR? (It's simple, it's so they can take your money, then force you into this magical rejuvenation package as you're now feeling like you've wasted $140, and then if you do get it and it turns out your issue is a fuse, or a compressor etc, they'll hit you with that.
I had actually agreed to the rejuvenation package (like an idiot) and then I came to google reviews to see all the other reviews from fellow idiots like me. So I quickly rang and cancelled it, I also tried to get my money back for the call out fee back and had no success as I had agreed to the call out on the phone, which is true, I thought someone would come and tell me what was actually wrong, so I did agree to that. That isn't what they do though.
I would urge anyone reading this to go with ANYONE else, they are full of it.

then proceeded to tell me that the fan is gone and I would need a new system and provided me with ridiculous prices between $5k to $10k to purchase another one!! I said to myself yeh no worries mate I think ill give that a miss! Interestingly, my air-conditioner started working the next day and been fine ever since thankfully! So much for the fan not working anymore. Absolute liars and a waste of $141. They tell you over the phone that they will come out to "rejuvenate" the system. What fk does that even mean?? Scammers – Absolute disgrace. Charged my wife $142 call out and then said they had no idea what was wrong and it would require a $2000 service to find out what it was, then a quote for a new unit was also given of $25000!
