Miele life long product! – Super easy to use! I'm a visual learner and I love the fact the buttons on the Miele vacuum have pictures to adjust what type of floor your are vacuuming- brilliant! It's a powerful machine you will have no issues with sucking unwanted rubbish. Definitely worth it! Show details
Great vacuum, still going strong after 7 years – I decided to go with a German made Miele model, and have been very happy with my purchase. Our house can be a bit mouldy, so it was great to have the HEPA filter on the vac. I love the onboard tools, and that the suction can be adjusted to be quieter in the evening. It does hard floors and carpets very well. The cord retraction still works… Read more
well after seven to eight years. Maneuverability is fine, though I often run over the cord. I wish the cord was a couple of meters longer. The Vac is easy to empty, and the filters are easy to change. The replacement bags and filters are a bit pricey however.
2 years 9 months and it died!!! – It would be a top vacuum it the motor did not die today... it was doing some weird sounds for last month (like it was warming up) and today it just stopped working. Dissapointed as Miele is apparently known for it's quality. ..not in this case... And fixing will probably cost as much as new one... do not recommend.
Burnt out motor @ 3 years and 7 months – S5311 vacuum cleaner performed exceptionally well for 3 years and 7 months, I couldn’t fault it until the motor burn out. If you’re after a great vacuum cleaner with a 4 year max life span then definitely go for a Miele. NOTE: Unit was used for household use only. Bags and filter were changed regularly and was treated with care throughout… Read more

I purchased the unit for $390 from The Good Guys, Melbourne in 2011. A little pricey but based on reviews and knowledge it was made in Germany by Miele I thought the cost was justified. I expected great performance (which I got) with no major issues for 5 years (which I didn’t get). With a repair bill of $250+ to replace a primary component I know the additional investment would be pointless as I’d likely encounter the same issue in 3 years.
Summary: Great product which fails shortly after warranty has expired.
Reliable – bought this about 5 years ago, replacing a heavier cleaner which was hard to lug around. The cord is a little longer than other similar models which is much needed. Still going strong. The only downside is that you need to use the original miele bags, bought from their on line store, as any other generic bag, even if they claim to fit this model,… Read more
doesn't catch the dust and fluff correctly which ends up going everywhere except inside the bag. A reliable machine.
Miele does not live up to its reputation – I decided to spend more than I normally would on a vacuum cleaner, hoping it would last longer. After doing some research, I decided on a Miele. After two and a half year's (not particularly hard) use (in a two bedroom apartment with wooden floors), the engine/fan blew up. As it was out of warranty I paid an authorised Miele service repairer $250… Read more
to get it fixed. He remarked that it was unusual for a machine of this age to have such a catastrophic failure, and checked that it had not been misued (which it had not). Two years later, the engine/fan blew up again. The same repairman felt that the machine most likely had a fault, for the same thing to happen twice in a five year period. The bill to get it fixed this time is $350. If I went ahead with this repair (which I will not), the total cost (including purchase price) to keep the vacuum cleaner running over the last five years would be $1,000.
This seems like a lot for a $399 vacuum cleaner. You could argue that it's not exactly new, even at the time of the first breakdown. I would say that I would not expect Miele to have built-in obsolescence after two years. I contacted Miele, but they will take no responsibility for (what I consider) to be a faulty product. It would have cost them very little to either pay for the second repair or give me a new machine. However in refusing to do either of these things, they have lost a potential life-long customer (one who needs to make two large white goods purchases in the next few months). I will never buy Miele again.
Fantastic little vacuum cleaner – I've had many different brand of vacuum cleaners this one by far has been the best. it's easy to pull around, smooth and very powerful when used at the max. I love the easy to grab attachments that are housed in the front of the unit and the extra long adjustable handle which means no more bending down and lower back pain. i love using this vacuum… Read more
cleaner it's definitely worth the purchase. i purchased mine approx 2 years ago now and it's still in perfect condition and performs as well as it did when i first used it. the only con i have to say is that the cord is a little too short for my needs, i have to attach an extension cord... wish it was longer. Reliable, easy to use, affordable Cord could be longer
Great Vacuum - 5 years on – I have had this vacuum cleaner for over 5 years now and simply love it. It has not missed a beat! The suction is still as strong as the day I bought it and no parts have broken or needed replacing. I really love this vacuum cleaner. Just need to watch for specials on bags and filters. Suction is fantastic and adjustable. Exactly what is needed.… Read more
Added a turbo head to do the mattress and it works amazingly. I wish the bags were slightly cheaper but there is no dust loss from them which is amazing.
Best vacuum ever – 4 years now. Lots of vacuuming to be done with pets and small children so needed something descent to keep up. Absolutely excelled. Fantastic suction (quite a work out on carpet on full suction) and cleaning. Easy to use. Just works! Hose doesn't constantly kink like most vacuums. Long power cord. Cord retractor actually works (fantastically).… Read more
Rolls easily and rarely gets caught up. Nice long wand (which also runs quite flat - we can vacuum under our couches without moving them! Nice sturdy clicks and easy disconnection of heads. WAY better than Dysons I have used in the past. We bought the powerbrush attachment also which does work well and adds an extra cleaning ability but not ground breaking, probably worth if if you have copious amounts of mess but for anything less than huge amounts probably not worth it as the vacuum itself is so fantastic. Don't worry about any extra cost over others, this will pay for itself many times over in longevity, not to mention better cleaning that will help your carpets last longer. Great suction, easy to use, solid, well built, everything works as it should, makes vacuuming easier and more enjoyable! Will frustrate you when you use anyone else's vacuum as you realise how terrible they are
I love this vac – My nilfisk of 10 years died earlier this year and after much research I decided on this vacuum. I love it. It's suction is fantastic and adjustable. I love the handle - so nice to hold. It moves really easily around the house. All the attachments are fantastic and the vacuum head easily converts between brush and non brush which is great with… Read more
carpet/tiles/floorboards Excellent adjustable suction strength, great handle- very nice to hold. Cost, not bagless
Who is Dyson??? – Miele have got this vacuum worked out brilliantly. It is named "the hard floor specialist" and let me tell you this - it takes after its name! We have nothing but hard floors (timber) in our home and this baby sucks up every bit of dust between those cracks like a champion. Would highly highly recommend to anyone with floorboards or any other hard floors. PERFECT!
Best-designed vacuum I've ever owned, and super light and easy to move around – I loved my previous vacuum, but now that I've got this Miele, there's no going back! This unit has fantastic dirt pick-up ability - no need to repeatedly go over the same spot - and it's very well-designed. The wand can be attached to the base unit with the base either standing upright or horizontally, allowing for easy and flexible storage. The… Read more
telescopic wand can also be collapsed to make storage more convenient. The whole unit is light and with the wand attached to it in the upright position, moving the whole unit by the handle is a cinch. The three-wheel design, with wheels moving in any direction, makes it the easiest vacuum to spin around and move about the floor that I've ever owned. Add onboard tool storage, a lengthy cord that fully and reliably retracts, and simple bag replacement, and this is the vacuum cleaner I've been looking for for 20 years. Kudos, Miele, you've won a new devotee. Light, well-designed, easy to store and move around the house. It's not cheap, but it's worthy every cent
Great product – After deciding between the dyson and miele I couldn't justify paying over $500 for a vacuum so decided on this one. It's a great machine - I've had no problems with it. It also comes with 2 brush heads. If miele could Change anything with their machines it should be the cord (that plugs into the electricity) I tend to use an extension cord as… Read more
it's prett short (even when I'm only vacuuming the meals/family room only) otherwise can't fault it Great suction Cord too short

Know better, choose better.
Great Product – I go through vacuum cleaners like there will be no tomorrow - every year I make an investment spend a fortune and BANG the thing breaks apart. I can truely wholeheartedly say that Miele has done really well here - I've had my machine for 2 years and no problem. The bags are about $20 bucks and they are decent, they keep the nasties out once… Read more
they've been sucked - so thanks Miele - great machine - Olivia Colours, hasnt broken apart after 2 years of solid cleaning
Excellent – The s5311 is a terrific vacuum which out-performed our expectations and has made the job of cleaning the floors and upholstered furniture quicker and easier. If, the s5311 continues over several years to provide this superior quality of cleaning then the rather high recommended retail price tag $529 (we paid $423 on sale) will be well justified.… Read more
We purchased the Miele s5311 yesterday and found it a dream machine to use. We have a two-storey house with Australian hardwood floors throughout, tiles in two bathrooms and two large plush wool rugs. The easy manoeuvrability of the machine as well as the compact design and light weight of the head attachments makes for flexible action. Reaching the underspace of the sofas and beds presented no difficulty with either the standard or the hard floor head attachments.
The suction power of the s5311 is substantially higher than our 5 year old compact Nilfisk vacuum. I tried all the settings and settled on the noise reduced level, which is about mid-range in suction power. The floors and rugs were cleaned quickly because of not having to go over sections multiple times, and the dust gathered on the skirting boards and the flyscreens vanished immediately on contact.
Two further points. The ComfortHandle is an extra bonus because it actually does make holding the wand super comfortable. Although it seems relatively heavy at 7.9kg, I (petite 55kg female) was surprised to find it was not difficult carrying the s5311 up the stairs and vacuuming as I went. I think this may be due to its vertical barrel shape and also because the base is small enough to rest on the stair tread without the danger of it hanging over the edge and toppling over. The 'touch' controls require firm pressing.
Excellent – Really glad with our purchase. We thought about bagless, but having to buy filters means much the same as buying bags doesn't it? From what I've read here, it'll last many years and will be a pleasure to use for the duration. I'm pretty heavy and I've stood on the hose a few times without any damage at all. I would never go back to an average… Read more
machine. Our old Volta was ok but particularly on the polished floors, it left scratches and some dust. It also took several passes to pick up bits of lint on carpet but the Miele picks it all up in one pass. Great! The suction is stupendous! The smooth floor head is excellent and shines the polished floorboards as you vacuum. It is also streamlined enough to get under low cupboards and in behind furniture legs, pot plant stands etc. The carpet head really gets into the pile and fluffs it up while cleaning. Adjustable power is great - I have to turn it down for some rugs or they lift off the floor! The cloth bags don't allow dust to flow back into the house - I really wonder if the models with the extra filter are necessary as the bag compartment always remains clean. The superior wheels mean that it follows you around like a faithful puppy and never seems to catch on furniture. It has great reach - I only change the plug once to do the whole (quite large) house. Everything about it seems good quality - the clips, hose, heads etc. Well, they aren't that cheap at RRP $499, though we managed to get one for $385 and added several packs of bags, also at a discount, so no real complaints there. Therefore no cons!
Best Vacuum Buy – I bought the Miele S5311 after going through 3 bagless vacuum cleaners. They couldn't do the job that the Miele does. It's great on our timber floors and picks up all the dust and dog hair easily. I use the 'easy listening' setting except for some rugs where it is just too powerful! Super easy to use with the handle and manoeuvres easily around… Read more
furniture and doors. Easy to use, reliable and variable. Hopefully it will last a long time. Bags are a bit expensive to buy to replace. Vacuum cleaner seemed expensive but when I compared it to buying three worthless bag less vacuum cleaners I decided it was worth the money.
I do not dread pulling out the vacume – The Miele vacuum cleaner is lightweight, very easy to maneuver and best of all very powerful. It is great on hard floors as well as carpet. It is also compact and doesn't take a lot of storage room. Lightweight, easy to maneuver and store A longer chord would be nice.
Love it, love it, love it!!! – I cannot believe I am saying this about a vacuum cleaner, but I love this little machine so much I would happily vacuum everyday!! The only thing is, I probably don't need to because it works a treat! We have hard floors (laminate) throughout the living areas of our home and carpet in the bedrooms. Despite this vacuum being the "hard floor… Read more
specialist" I find that I am super impressed with the way it cleans our carpet. It's also excellent on the wool rug in our lounge room. It's not overly priced by comparison to some. I got ours online with warranty extension to 5 years and 4 extra bags delivered for less than $460. One happy Miele customer!!! Reasonably priced, awesome suction, light, the wheels actually roll and compact for storage. Cord could be a little longer.
Best vac I have ever owned – By far the best vac I have owned and I have owned quite a few. Well built, relatively quiet, strong wand that never jams and great suction. It has replaced the dyson - don't get me wrong, the dyson is an excellent vac, but this one is simply a conventional vac, with no gimmicks or new ground-breaking technology, it just has everything right about… Read more
it - I have done the full circle with the different types of vacs, from bag, to bagless, to cyclonic, now back to bag vac. It has a strong cord as well, and the vac is easy to pull around and sturdy. Don't write off a bag vac until you try this one. May seem a bit expensive when compared to other similar types but the quality is well worth the money. Strong suction, sturdy and well built
Solid built, huge suction, a bit dear – First go just now. This thing sucks so hard on a rug it will do your back in - need to turn it down. Bought mainly for floorboards - it sucked the dirt from between the joins and I think from under the house below. After a few minutes I think it dug out space for the wine cellar I always wanted. It visibly pulls dirt to the head before you… Read more · 2
get to it.
It started sucking in dirt from the gap between the skirting and floor boards - so much so that our adjoining neighbors have canceled their cleaner.
Had another Meile 10 years ago - it self destructed earlier wasn't ever going to buy another one. There doesn't appear to be another brand that offers such reliable performance across their range - don't go Meile and its hit and miss - trouble was which one to buy. This replaced a Samsung bagless that was great for a few years but then the filters became blocked easily and it was flimsy built. The bags are pretty cheap at $5ea at full price.
This is well build, everything clicks solidly into place as it should. The wand it strong. The wheels are good such that it follows you well and doesn't "turtle" like the samsung. Well built, good suction, does the job. I think they are bit expensive but the alternatives aren't cheap enough to overcome the reliability and perfromance expectation.
Terrible Product Backup – Stopped working within 1 year and sent to factory for repair quote. Warranty voided as we have some evidence of plaster dust. After repairing a whole home from the floods last year maybe there was. Original price $349, quote to repair $538 Miele are terrible and i will never buy a product of theirs again. Expensive, Bad Warranty, Bad Company
S5311 suitable for wood floors – This is my second miele. First was the cats& dog vacuum. It was great. Just purchased a miele hard wood specialist which keeps falling over. Waiting to hear what customer care has to say. Harvey Norman had no answers.I have experimented with different ways of inserting the neck of the vacuum in the slot it falls. The head is suitable for wood floors The hose & Head fall of vacuum
How much should you pay for a Meile S5311+SBB Vacuum Cleaner and what sort of warranty do they come with.
Excellent – I was originally going to buy the Miele Cat and Dog vacuum, but was convinced by the sales guy to purchase the S5311 as I have mainly floorboards in my house, and the Cat and Dog is more suited for carpets. This wasn't as expensive as the Cat and Dog, works fantastically on our rugs and carpet (still picks up all the dog hair), and has a really… Read more
lightweight head for use on the floorboards. I'm 6 months pregnant and am still finding vacuumming an easy task with this product. Light and compact, nice long cord, long wand with a lightweight head that has loads of suction, very easy to manoeuvre.

Hang on! you have used the vaccum against Miele's operating instructions... Would you used it to suck up water if it said not too?? LOL
