What a surprise – Needed something cheap to drive to the office and back. My "now weekend" car isnt very economical at 14-16lt /100km Found a non-running 07 with 120000km on the clock, the very low price was worth the risk. Towed it home. Found and repaired the issue in one afternoon. Pulled out the interior steam cleaned it , serviced all the fluids slapped… Read more

some cheap seat covers and floor mats in.

Have done 500km so far (still has 1/4 tank!).

This little thing is a joy to drive, can be parked like a motorbike its tiny on the outside and incredibly roomy inside! AC is ridiculous! Everything works, no major rattles. At 120,000km the suspension is still tight enough to comfortably drive.

The CVT is a bit of a let down but I guess I'm used to high performance. Just feels like the little aluminium and plastic engine is constantly revving to deliver power.

The seats are flat and having no centre console/arm rest to brace on it feels like you will fling out if you turn in a little too hard.

Can be a little noisy at 100km/h but it is a tin can so cant expect a lot of sound deadening.

If the CVT dies Ill throw a 5 speed in it, and keep driving it till it cant drive no more.

Great little car and now I'm on the look out for a Ralliart that isn't molested.

2010 Colt VRX - Ecpononical and flexible – I bought one of these for my Son as his first car. I read the reviews about the 'blind spot' and agree that the car has a thick A pillar. But I'm struggling to figure out where you have to sit for it to be an issue. I don't have a permanent neck brace, so I tend to look around it anyway. At $9990 for a VRX with under 40k on the clock and… Read more

service history, these are great value in the used market. Qld government had a heap and they are hitting the market. Ours has the safety pack of 6 airbags otherwise they only attract 3.5 ANCAP stars.

Clever design and simple construction make them easy to work on. It is economical and the CVT transmission is well matched to the torquey 1.5. I have found that at 60kmh it is humming along at about 1300rpm.

The auto VRX with safety pack was expensive as a new car and I have found a few things that the car should have. More sound proofing - on coarse country roads the car is noisy compared to my 2010 Fiesta. A set of full sized car mats and some additional carpet in the luggage area will help with that.

Rear interior light. There is a space for one but it was deleted for the VRX. This leaves the rear seats and the boot space in the dark at night. We found a light in an earlier model at a wrecker and this has solved the issue.

Cruise control: not needed for a city car, but for an outer urban car it's a great addition to prevent speeding fines. You can get a plug in, electronic version to match the car on eBay for under $700.

A great little car, find one with the safety pack...

Love my colt! – I love my colt. Its a lime green 1.5 CVT version. I test drove many cars before buying it, including Mazda Demios, Nissan March/Micras and Toyota Yaris/Echo/Vitz. I found the Colt to have a huge amount more power than any of these others, it is extremely peppy, and takes off quickly. It handles hills etc well even under load. The foot handbrake… Read more ·  1

and the gearstick placement took a bit of getting used to but it pretty practical once you get used to it. The sloping windscreen also gives really good visibility and the car is easy to back as the back windscreen shows you exactly where the car ends.

The back seats can flip forwards and can be completely removed, which makes for a large space for carrying loads. They also sit higher, meaning back seat passengers have a good view. I can also fill the tank on around NZ$50 and it lasts a considerable time.

The secret compartment under the front seat is handy as well - its nearly undetectable and good for hiding valuables.

I havent had any mechanical problems and the CVT gear box works well and is easy to drive. We did notice so road noise coming from the back and put a thin foam pad (like a yoga mat) between the spare type and the pull up floor, which has reduced a huge amount of noise and took about 10 mins.

I'd buy one again tomorrow! Cute, easy to manoeuvre, very preppy engine, comfortable front and back seats Does have a blind spot at the front right and you do have to choose between having 4 passengers or taking luggage

Very fuel efficient very comfortable to drive – I purchased 2007 colt es with 120km in 2013 now has 200km, trouble free driving! About 2 months ago transmission (cvt) started to make growling bearing noise, cvt oil change fixed! The cvt transmission needs clean oil! I believe the torque converter was making the noise because of dirty oil! John Coen Western Australia Show details

Extremely unsafe vehicle !! – Extremely dangerous driving this car due to right corner windscreen which blocks your view of cars coming from the right. Very unsafe. Low fuel consumption – Extremely unsafe due to blind spot on front right. Can’t emphasise this enough. Otherwise good value for money. Low fuel consumption and zippy. Easy maintenance. Pretty dependable and surprising amount of space if seats are folded down. But I would not have bought this car if I knew about the blind spot issue. It’s dangerous.  Show details

This car was great until the CVT transmission packed up after 117000 k's – The car was fantastic until the CVT died. We had additional warranty to 130,000ks or 10 yrs whichever came first. It had only 117,000 but was 6 months over the10 years. Mitsubishi quoted us $7,800 to replace the gear box as CVT can't be repaired. We are stuck with a perfectly good car which is still running great and been fully serviced. So what do we do now?  Show details

The great move of 2022. I will tell how my grandchildren it all fitted in one load! – I am moving my smaller household belongings in my colt. Take the back seat out (you will need muscles) and it is quite the storage space workhorse at a fuel cost less than what I would spend in the shops on a saturday. The weight is the only limiting factor and that is just a case of mixing light items in with some book boxes. I looked at small… Read more

trucks but they add up to $600 for three days hire so the colt it is! We also have a 1980's mitsubishi l300 for the larger items (possibly finally on its last legs, thus why I am moving as much as I can in the colt.) if you have the time, the colt is the most cost effective way to move small items in the 2022 "Overcharging" era! 128,000 k's, still on the first set of brake pads (to be replaced this service or next), 2nd set of tyres. The first funny noise I have heard was yesterday and that ended up being one of the clocks I had in the passenger seat footwell space. I made the unfortunate decision to buy a renault the first time I bought a car, never again with the european cars!

Great little car – Bought my Mitsubishi Colt (manufactured in 2010, made in Japan) in 2015 used for AUD5300 in Perth. I was initially sceptical about the CVT transmission, as my Toyota Camry drove a bit different. I shipped the car to Melbourne in 2019 due to relocation. After 7 years of driving like a maniac, now the car is 12 years old, approaches 220k KM and… Read more

still runs strong. The only things that I have paid for was yearly logbook service and changes of four tyres, one battery and one engine mount, total about AUD2000 give or take. I did drive it on rough surfaces which I shouldn't have. That probably broke the engine mount. Great fuel economy due to lightweight (less than a tonne), about 5-6 L/ 100km, perhaps comparable to a hybrid car. With back seats folded, there is a good amount of space in the back as well. Also, the ceiling is very high for a 185cm person, even higher than the CRV I have. It's a pity that they don't make it anymore. In summary, great design, great quality, great fuel economy, great value for money (at least when I bought it).

Super reliable 15yo car that's fun to drive – In 2019 I bought my 2006 manual Colt due to the reviews on here - I wanted something cheap to buy and own, but importantly something that's also very reliable as I'm self-employed and was traveling long distances for work. The car more than fulfils its brief and I'm really happy I bought it. I purchased this from the original owner at 97,000 KMs,… Read more

with RWC, rego, and new tyres, for $3900.

I'm a mature driver commuting in regional Victoria. I really love this car. I've removed the back seat to carry my drum kit to gigs and it makes a great mini minivan. I get ribbed about its size, but I really don't understand why everybody around me feels the need for some monster ute to haul their body around (and I note that the blown head gasket on my mother's 2001 SUV is costing her 50% more than I paid for my entire car!). With its manual gearbox this car is so peppy and fun to drive, plus it handles very well - no wonder there's a club for these in the UK. And above all, this car is so cheap to service, and so reliable. The original owner and myself have had zero problems with this now 15yo car. And I drive down plenty of rough farm roads and bush tracks. I plan to keep it for years to come, and should a kangaroo write it off (a real possibility out here) there's no question: I'll definitely buy another. It's such a pleasure to something so cheap and yet highly reliable.

My only criticism is, yes, the pillar which others have mentioned. It's not a problem out on the road, but it is a mild stress in town, in terms of pedestrians and cyclists. If I was driving in a densely populated urban area then I'd be less happy with the car for that reason alone.

WHy did they stop making this great little car ? – I love my 2011 Colt Plus. to trading up to a later model but even the Mazda 2 doesn't match the head height and boot space or have the remote control boot opener.

We have no visibility problem with the column that some reviewers mention, have had 'sportier' cars with much worse visibility. No longer need the wheel chair but would buy a later model Colt Plus tomorrow if there was one.

Why did they stop producing this great little car ?

Unsafe car – I purchased my Colt in 2006 as a 2005 Demo. There is a significant blind spot at the front right hand side of the car. when entering a roundabout. This is due to the very large frame between the windscreen and the right front door. I wanted to pass this car onto my daughter but there is no chance of that now. Dangerous design!

Its got everything – bought new in 2008, done 100,000kms. Contenders were fiesta xr4, polo gti, swift sport. The colt beats them overall. The fuel economy is easily best in class and considering the power output also, its amazing. The turbo does take awhile to spool up, but once it does the midrange surge is big and meaty, you dont need to rev it all the way out, just use the boost and the midrange to get the job done. Accelerating uphill in top gear is no problem, and theres always a reserve of power for overtaking etc. Brakes were sharp and better than the polo or fiesta. The recaro seats are very very good, and reduce fatigue from sliding about, i drove it 800kms and back without soreness. If you are fat you might have a problem with the seats. I'm 6ft and not skinny and its great, my wife loves them too. After 100k theres a couple of squeaks and rattles and the build quality is not up to a european standard, and equipment levels dont match its rivals, but this car's weapon is weight and with a tiny 1100kg its a very nimble and potent car through the hills. The standard exhaust has an angry rumble at idle that dissappears once underway. The turbo is silent and we added a k&n filter to the standard box and a turbosmart BOV plumbed back and you can now hear a pleasant whistle and flutter.

with stiff sidewall tyres as standard and front wheel drive, It is hard to launch in a straight line, but it corners with a speed that will have you keeping up with heavier evo's etc.

stability and traction control lets you have some freedom and allows some slip and can be turned off completely.

its not a quiet refined ride, its a bit noisy from the tyres and its a bit bumpy, the recaros do their best but this is a raw uncompromising hot hatch cut from the same cloth as the lancer evolution.

theres no cruise control, only 4 speaker stereo and no side or seat airbags. Air conditioning is automatic and very powerful.

I would buy one again, i would recommend one to you. Handling, Price, Warranty, economy, space, power, brakes, seats frequent oil changes, bit cheap interior, equipment, only 2 airbags

If you're pedantic, there are a couple of things that will be a slightly annoying. As you would have read on the other reviews, the blind angle on either side of the windscreen is pretty annoying. You will need to lean forward and back when going around tight corners or roundabouts. Lots of cars have this, so most people would have experienced it before, definitely an inconvenience rather than a deal breaker, no biggy. Back seats could be slightly more comfy, but in saying that, we've had a few 60 yo's in the back for over 2 hours with no complaints.

A couple of other neat things, the back seats fold down and then up again and hook up onto the front seats, leaving the back of the car completely flat. This leaves a massive space for what ever you need to transport. All the little extras that you need are there to - Aircon is cold, couple of cup holders, convenient spaces to put keys, phones, wallets, bottles etc on both front doors and under the steering wheel and there is no middle arm rest, which surprisingly turns out to be good thing, it's a great space for handbags and for passengers in the back to stretch their legs if they need to. There's also a secret compartment in the passengers seat, handy if you want to hide things...

All car manufacturers have good and bad car models, doesn't mean if they have one bad car model that all of them are bad. In saying that, I wasn't too much of a Mitsubishi fan and was skeptical when buying this Colt, however we couldn't be happier with it. A truly superb car.

Blind angle on either side of windscreen.

of discs, very disappointed in dealership, so disappointed in fact we traded the car in this weekend on a new Kia, much cheaper service charges and the same warranty, not the cars fault, but maybe Mitsubishi should pull there heads in,

they charge $298.00 for a basic service, which is oil and a oil filter, that's the extent of the service, about $50.00 in parts, $250.00 in labour, the cars is done in 20 minutes, they never fill up the water bottle, check your spare tyre, my wipers had a 25 cm tear in one of them, it was passed on inspection, they did not even look at them, can they also explain why a Lancer costs $198.00 for a basic service??
