8 years of hassle free driving – I bought this car new in 2010 to accomodate a growing family. One of the biggest deciding factors in it's purchase was the boot size of the wagon. I spoke to a few Outlander owners and all had nothing but praise for it so I bought one.,(most had multiple outlanders also). I use mainly for driving from one side of Melbourne to the other daily and… Read more

fuel consumption is generally 11l/100kms a tank but it's much less when the traffic is flowing, ie, 7 or 8 litres per 100kms and similar on the highway.

The only problems I've had is the aircon died after 7 years and cost $650 to fix and my blinkers blink fast now becuase of trailers with LED lights. Quoted fix is $650 from Mitsubish as they want to replace the ETACS box.

CVT isn't the best, feels sluggish but works as keeping fuel economy down and it has the sports shift for fun and best used when overtaking on the hwy.

Done a bit of off road driving and no hassles there. Towing a 6x4 trailer full of camping gear is easy and doesn't affect the handling too much.

After writing this I don't know why I'm selling it.

Good for mild to modarate off roading and regular commute – I bought this used car from a Mitsubishi dealer and the odo was 100k at the date of purchase. It was a well maintained car previously owned by CBA. After that I added another 61k to the odo. In my experience it is smooth and generally responsive as I am not driving AMG or Mustang. The longest drive was 1350km in one day from Adelaide to Sydney… Read more ·  1

with two refueling and ofcourse without any issue with my wife and two kids. After Goulburn, it started to rain heavily and I turned my AWD on. After that it became so stable on the wet road that I have overtaken no less than 50 cars who were struggling to drive even on 60k/h and I was driving at 100k/h on 110 zone. I have done some sand dunes with my family in it at Anna bay with AWD lock. Drove from Snowy mountain to Khankoban and did some mild off roading on the way. Boot space is pretty awesome. It holds my portable BBQ stove and camping gears at ease. The only major servicing I did was replacing my 4 engine mount.

Excellent and affordable with lots of gadgets too! – I was in the market for a midsize SUV that can fit 5 people easily with an occasional need of third row seats. Lovely example of Japanese ingenuity – My first entry into the Mitsu S.U.V market is the LS 2012 Outlander and I am very pleased with this purchase. The vehicle is front wheel drive only with the optional front hub lock that is activated via a dash switch giving you power to two front wheels. It has a 2.4 litre 5 Speed manual Mitec engine. The vehicle overall has a lot of creature… Read more

comforts and attention to detail that make this S.U.V a good all rounder. There is an easy dash layout with multiple cup holders throughout the vehicle, 12V power connections front middle and rear, and latch arrangements for tyeing off heavier items when in transit. Fully foldable rear seats to increase cabin space and an anti-glare tailgate window for all those pesty (hi-halogen) vehicles that seem to sit way to close to your rear bumper. A unique drop-down tail-gate for un-loading heavier items. Small Boat up to 4m and trailer towing have had good results without any real dramas. The vehicle is quiet inside and has a good turning arc for it's size. One thing I would say though is the ride can be a little bouncy for some with the spring arrangement produced for this vehicle and with any larger towing one should consider the 4WD option.

Thirsty, too easy to skid – Have had a 2012 ZH Outlander 5sp manual for a year, and while I really like Mitsubishi, this model is pretty average. Fuel consumption is heavy, however when the fuel light comes on I can get at least 45km before refilling. It is too easy to induce a front-wheel skid and spin the wheels in this, even when taking off on a level road. I would not… Read more

want to tow anything as a result. I recently bought new tyres, and it is still skidding when I take off turning a corner with foot to the floor. It is very sluggish acceleration until the engine gets to about 1800rpm. so you need to give plenty of accelerator when taking off. However, one good feature is that it has rear folding seats that give you more room in the back for large items.

2011 ZH Outlander LS 2.4 5 seater 4WD Auto CVT. Full size spare – Bought car in 2015 from Fleet Sales ex-NSW Gov car (Dept of Food Lismore) AUD$20K. Was fitted witha non-Mitsi, Nokia-only Bluetooth by NSW DoF which had to be removed. I have retrofitted a Bluetooth handsfree and fog lights (both OEM parts ex-wreckers), the chiller box vent (new parts ex Mitsi dealer) and installed the ZG top of dash glove box… Read more

(again OEM ex wreckers).

Bought the car for myself and my two dogs (their travelling bed is in the cargo area and their harnesses attached to the cargo barrier anchor points on the side.

The drop down tail gate acts as a ledge, shelf, seat and ladder (to the back of the roof racks). I do not like that is is gone on the later models and will probably stick with the ZH until I retire.

The cruise control is beautiful (set 1km above limit) and it roars its way up hills on the limit.

USB plug-in for my music collection (168+ albums on 64Kb drive), but the radio & CD player work no problems.

Have done the Sydney - Canberra (Hume Hwy) run more times than I can count with absolutely no issues. Power is there when I need it (although I may flick it into sports mode sometimes to get the power).

I took this car from Canberra around WA and NT and back; Across the Nullarbour (including side trips to the Bight and mild off-road to the Murrawinjinie Caves) averaging 500km/tank Around the WA coast (Esperance, Albany etc to Broome Derby) up the Gibb River Rd to the Windjana-Fitzroy Rd (Windjana Gorge Tunnel; Creek etc). The 4WD Lock its a great help there. From Fitzroy Crossing to Halls Creek and then to Wolf Creek (PS the Outie can do 130km/h on the Tanami no problem as long as you can handle dirt track driving). Back to Halls Creek across to Kunnunurra, on to Katherine and down to Mataranka and Ghan. Out to Uluru and back. Down to Cobber, Adelaide and Canberra.

13000+km in 7 weeks with no mechanical problems. No flat tyres no electrical issues, Aircon all the way. Sheep skin seat covers and no sore bum.

Great Car - Very Versatile, Roomy, Reliable – I've had the MY09 Outlander since new and it's been serviced regularly per logbook and any recalls. Currently heading for 200,000 kms and not showing her age at all. when needed. Very handy to load gear in or pull up to the beach an hop in the back to enjoy the view on a chilly day. Downsides have been the fold down seats taking up space (otherwise could sleep in back) and the second row seats are a little hard for a longer drive. Overall, it's a great car for what it is and has suited my purposes. Its value now is low so will keep running it to see how many kms I can get out of it.

Mitsubishi Outlander XLS 4wd – Initial Thought: This is my 3rd Mitsubishi, after trading my mirage to Frankston Mitsubishi with Mitsubishi Outlander auto 4wd XLS model. Got mixed feeling at first because it is a big vehicle in compare with tiny mirage but after 3 years of driving to mostly in tarmac, I can say it is running good so far. Took it to sydney, Great Ocean Road,… Read more

Gramphian, Mt. Buller and all around Victoria. It drove well. There has been few recall from Mitsubishi motor and they do it free of cost. Only problem is you have to leave the car whole day at service centre.

Driving Experience:

it is 2.4 Lt CVT 6 speed transmission. So, it is not a sport car. The CVT transmission is smooth and drives without any problem with 5 people in normal fwd mode upto Mt buller in snowing condition. Steering feel heavy driving in city and turns but fine in highway. Can keep up in highway, sometimes need more push in pedal going incline. Travelling long distance mileage came upto 8.6 or less litre per 100 km. It is noisy in normal tarmac road. But didn't notice any noise while driving upto Sydney. Used 4wd once and it worked and pulled me up steep hill.

Interior and Exterior:

It is simple and easy to use. Got couple of storage good enough for small water bottle and coffee cup. Big bottle won't fit. Seat can be uncomfortable in long drive. Head units is little hard to see in bright sunlight. Big space for rear passengers. Boot space is excellent and tailgate fold down for easy access. Downside no full size spare tyre. Exterior is keeping up good. Hit telephone pole twice while backing up in hurry but got only scratch, no big repair cost. Headlight is alright.

Reliability and cost:

Up till now, it is running quite alright, sometime feels sluggish may be of fuel, not sure. i am keep feeding 98 octane as it give better mileage (please don't laugh at that). Bought it from Mitsubishi dealer so got capped price servicing under AHG motor group. Dealer sometime add up injection cleaning, throttle cleaning and alignment addition to capped price servicing.

all round good car, horrible on oil consumption! – great, reliable car, the "4WD" function is a bit of a misnomer as it simply converts to an "AWD" and changes the power put to the back tyres; but a good function, and really changes the way it drives especially on wet, windy roads. Does go through A LOT of oil, we have to top up between regular services, needs oil top up after only 5000kms post service, so this is an issue, but other than that has been a great, comfortable car  Show details

Love this car, suits my family really well – We have the 4 cylinder version. I would have to say it's a heavy car so can be a little dead climbing hills etc but with a little family in the back of the car that is fine. The CVT makes a bit of noise but you only notice this from the outside. Smooth Ride – Bought a 2 year old 2L 2WD Silver Outlander, petrol consumption is great and its nice to drive, though a little gutless. Have found that its not easy to upgrade the stereo, it doesn't come with GPS, to get a Mitsubishi upgrade costs $3500, and any double din stereo from a car audio pkace requires an extra bracket at $170 or so. I found a stereo on ebay that uses the whole faceplate, but only fits a left hand drive.  Show details

Nice car - shame about the known fault in the ABS Module – This is a lovely car for its age. We have the 2010 model. All leather interior, lovely smooth drive, plenty of power in the V6. Amazing sound system, sunroof. Unfortunately this model, along with Lancers, was fitted with a faulty ABS Module which is a $3000 fix. There should have been a recall. GOOD CAR BUT COULD BE BETTER 2009 VR VR OUTLANDER – I sold my beloved 2006 Subaru outback premium of 6 years to buy this car and although its a decent machine I can't help but find a few faults with it compared to the mighty Subaru. I wanted the v6 as I'm not a fan of cvt automatics and that is the only auto option behind the 4 cylinder and as a mechanic I have seen too many cvt issues. Issue 1… Read more ·  1

with the v6 outlander is the v8 fuel consumption. Its not good enough today to only get on average 15 litres per hundred kms around town and higher if you feel like giving it a flogging. I'd rather have a v8 commodore wagon for the same fuel usage. Issue 2 is the V6 engines lack of bottom end grunt. To be fair I knew they were a little weak in the torque department down low but its worse than I thought in everyday use and you are constantly using the little flappy paddle steering wheel mounted shifters to have it in the right gear for some decent go. The engine loves a rev and actually puts out a decent exhaust note when given some juice and goes well enough up high but can simply be a bit painful around town. Issue 3 is the 6 speed automatic gearbox which constantly changed up and down gears due to this lack of torque and honestly even on a flat surface can change 10 times between 4th and 6th gear just maintaining 60-80kph speeds on a slight incline.

Now for the good stuff and its the rest of the car, plenty of room, comfortable on smooth roads (not so much on rougher stuff), good looking and ours is the iron bark brown colour which looks the goods.

I'd recommend the car and the 3 issues mentioned are annoying but can be overlooked if need be.

Solid car but I miss the Subaru outback which I rate as a much better car.

time. It's clunky, there is no iPod support and sat nav is difficult to hear/follow/understand as it only come sout of the drivers speaker. Bluetooth call quality is rubbish as it too only comes out of the drivers speaker.

If you have a rear DVD player, you can use the RCA cables to connect your music player via AUX.

I have good bridgestrone tyes on the car ($220 a pop) but the road noise is still quite loud. The windows always sound like they're down slightly and make a windy noise.

Pros:

I got this car to take away on weekends. It has a huge boot space (wagon), the rear bumper folds down, electric folding rear seats and 3 x 12v power with one in the boot that I have a fridge connected to. Sunroof standard on this model with aftermarket roof racks. Plenty of rear leg room with the seats sliding forward and backward.

Cons:

- Less than 12mths in owning the car I got a failed ABS module. Costing me $3,000 to repair through Mitsubishi. I can't source a part anywhere. (This fault has plagued the Outlander since the ZG but got no support for it)

- Requires a wheel alignment every 6-12mths to stop the '4WD system service' light coming on at highway speeds

- 90,000km major service cost $1,100 with a local mechaninc. Mitsubishi wanted $1,800.

- Two recalls within a few months of each other about faulty lighting/electronic systems.

Would I recommend it?

No.

In all honesty, I probably got a lemon but you can put your money towards a safer, more reliable car.

Look towards a Toyota Rav4 or Kluger or a Subaru Forestor or XV (Hatch)

gaining speed quickly without you noticing. The CVT 6 speed can be Jerky sometimes in heavy traffic but is smooth with no shift feel which makes for really smooth cruising but the sports sequential shift is fun to use. Build quality is good but it does have cheapish door trims but other than that is a very reliable SUV. Ride is firmish but not back breaking. A well serviced example would be ideal for someone wanting a RAV 4 without the RAV 4 price. Service intervals are 15,000km or 12 month's. Had it in for correction 7-8 times, before and after warranty, which they still honour.

Basically their mechanics' only solution is that the computer thinks it's to do with speed sensors in one of the wheels, but this is not the case. They gave tried that option several times.

Usually it happens during a change in the auto gear, like it's just slipped half a gear, slight power fade, then "ding" on they come.

surely fixes that! lol (doof! doof! doof!)......but it goes like hell but i want to supercharge it. (can anyone address me on this??)

Took it on some serious 4wd'ing too and dented the petrol tank on left hand side :(

60 litre tank has now become an approx 47 litre tank! (many have said "well done, now cheaper to fill up!)

I bent the exhaust abit too, but now it sounds heaps better! (tail pipe pointing towards the road more (down))

Unluckily as to where we have a Kangaroo problem in town, (yes, in town), a Joey decided to commit hari kari and slammed into me (LHS), whilst i was only doing 40 km/phr :( doh!......damage!!!!)

funny part was, when the Joey got up, it just shook it's head and hopped away! lol

(cull needed!!) wassup Skippy.....

Driving and Stability : ok...in 2wd it handles like a spastic...wavering steering (light steering)....dangerous!!,

yet put her into 4WD and with 60% of power going to the rear she handles beautifully!!! (without compromising fuel economy)

eg/ @ 95 kph i have achieved 8.4ltr/100km,(in cruise control),

or @ 110kph...9.5ltr/100km,(in cruise control), oh and taking into account with 90kilo payload in the trunk!

however, in town drivin i get a measly 25litre/100km :(.....maybe i should be less heavy footed? xD

Running in AWD (or 4WD), she will take an 85k corner at 100k without listing (rollling) with the ASC activated!, but i wouldn't comprise that in wet roads!

Okay, all in all, very nice little SUV, but i'm curious as to how many kilometres the Mivec 3.0 ltr V6 can achieve?

(can anyone enlighten me on this please?)

And yeah, got the standard mufflers cut out and sports muffs welded in too, and why??

...well, when you ecsalerate the engine screams, so to compliment it, the exhaust needs to 'expel' some noise to coincide with all that engine noise, so, Outlander Fans, do yourself a favour ;) xD... trust me for $180 (just the 2 mufflers), it's a cheap investment!!!!

I'm Happy, comments are welcome :)

Cheers!

(Happy Outlander Owner!)
