"Soup Nazi" service but the prices and products are good – So many reviews on here are bagging the service. Those are true in the extreme - the least friendly place I've bought from. They always remind me of the 'Soup Nazi' episodes of Seinfeld. However, laugh those off and their prices are keen and their range is very good. There's no-one better for spare parts. You wanna buy a laptop, in a box at a good… Read more

Update: If the company’s position is supported only by internal service logs and brief technician notes, then physical video or photographic records—along with my own logs and independent testing evidence—carry far greater probative weight. This is especially true where such independent results demonstrate the same instability issues. When a… Read more

company relies solely on internal records to justify “no fault detected,” without supplying physical proof at the time of service, it raises concerns of procedural fairness and evidentiary reliability. If physical proof is withheld until after an independent technician’s findings are presented, such late-produced evidence may reasonably be treated as less reliable or even non-admissible, as it fails to meet the standards of contemporaneous and transparent documentation.

The company’s position is further undermined by its selective interpretation of results. They have claimed that “crashing and overheating never occurred” until the independent tester altered CPU power limits, while ignoring the fact that: • The CPU demonstrably failed to perform at default BIOS limits prior to any adjustments. • Their own graphs already reflect instability consistent with those failures. • Key symptoms—including screen flickering, stuttering, freezing, and games failing to load past the menu—were disregarded, despite being documented in my records.

This selective omission of material faults, combined with the absence of contemporaneous physical evidence, significantly weakens the credibility of conclusions

I’ve noticed a number of reviews here that reflect similar experiences to my own. To avoid any risk of defamation, I’m simply sharing what I’ve learned through personal experience and public consumer law resources — not to target or mischaracterise any business unfairly, but to contribute to public interest discussions. For that reason, I’ve used conditional and hypothetical language, particularly when referencing examples of potential ACL violations.

If you’re experiencing issues with a product or a dispute, it’s worth knowing that the ACCC and state/territory regulators (Trading Affairs/ ACL) can investigate breaches of consumer law but cannot force a refund — only a civil tribunal like ACAT has that authority. However, reporting matters to these regulators is still important, as repeated complaints may lead to formal investigations.

Importantly, a product doesn’t need to be obviously faulty for breaches of the Australian Consumer Law (ACL) to occur. Issues like delays, lack of transparency, or misrepresentation during a warranty claim can also be problematic. Pursuing compensation is one avenue, but ensuring compliance with the law is just as important.

I strongly recommend keeping all communication in writing (email or text) with any business — including parent/ related companies. You have the right to choose how you communicate, and refusing to engage unless you speak by phone — or ignoring written communication — could be considered unfair or unconscionable conduct under Section 21 of the ACL.

Additionally, if a business dismisses valid concerns as merely a “change of mind” or “personal expectations” — particularly when the product is not performing as expected — this may be considered misleading conduct under Sections 18 and 29 of the ACL. Offering only optimisation or troubleshooting in response to a clearly underperforming product may also risk breaching Sections 54 and 259, which relate to acceptable quality and the right to remedies for failure. Other relevant ACL protections that may apply in these cases include: • Section 21 – Unconscionable conduct • Section 54 – Guarantee of acceptable quality • Section 259 – Right to a remedy • Section 267 – Right to compensation for consequential loss

I’ve chosen to report my situation to consumer law regulators, not necessarily to seek a refund (since learning compensation is not only way to hold accountability), but to help highlight trends that may be affecting others. Some businesses appear to rely on the idea that consumers won’t escalate issues or aren’t fully aware of their rights — which is why it’s so important to speak up and share knowledge.

Apologies if this post comes across as vague — that’s intentional to avoid legal ambiguity or misinterpretation. My intention is simply to help other consumers who may be navigating similar concerns. I would like also to remind, I’m no lawyer but if needing one, Consumer Law Care, a free walk-in clinic that provides legal advice from lawyers that specialise in consumer violations.

Anther tip, if they refuse to provide you with evidence than download the programs they use and run your own tests.

Appalling service and staff – I bought a bunch of parts from here to upgrade my PC. Installed it on the 19/10/2023. From day one I had issues where the power would turn itself on and off, go into a boot loop cycle - I basically couldn’t use it. Took into Crawford Computers in Greenway to try and repair the system. Long story short had around $2000 total in service fees,… Read more

changed my power supply thinking that was the problem, my internal drive fried had to get that replaced. I didn’t have my computer for two months straight - same issue every time until Crawford went to MSY, bought the exact same brand of motherboard from them, changed the motherboard - and finally it works. So the original board I bought from MSY was faulty. I returned the faulty motherboard I had initially purchased in the Motherboard Box that Crawford Computers had bought the working motherboard (I had thrown out my box and asked Crawfords to keep ahold of the box they’d bought from MSY) and returned it to MSY for the warranty claim. On the day of handing it in, I explained everything that had happened, even Crawfords buying another board from them and was hoping for a cash refund. But no, the manufacturer returned another exact working motherboard to MSY for me to collect. WHAT AM I TO DO WITH 2 EXACTLY THE SAME MOTHERBOARDS?!? all I can do is resell it at a reduced price. Thanx…. Thanx a bunch…. I pay the cost of 2 motherboards (one useless to me) and $1600 in service fees. Thanks for putting me out around $2000. Not coming back here ever again - not like losing one customer will bother you. But 2 months with no PC, the money I lost and still will lose - what a joke.

Update: I have contacted Consumer Affairs and hope to get this resolved. MSY still refuse to give me a refund on the motherboard since the Manufacturer replaced the product which I refuse to collect because doing so would mean I accept the terms of the warranty.

Service and prices have always been very good in my experience – I have used these guys for years with no problems and would recommend them. It is not a shop that you go and browse in, but if you know what you want and they say they have it you will be in and out quickly. Today I went there forgetting that they don't open until 10:30am and they took pity on me and sold me a hard drive Show details

An excellent reliable store – For the past five years, I have often come here to purchase various PC desktop components and monitors. I have always found the store employees courteous and helpful - and the gear first class with terrific prices. About a year ago, I inadvertently purchased the wrong motherboard (my mistake), but the store replaced it with the correct one a day later without any hassle. I would not go anywhere else for computing needs. Show details

An economical place to get IT parts – MSY is an economical place to get IT parts. While the staff are knowledgeable, they don't (and can't!) know everything about your setup and problems. Don't expect them to be a free high-paid consultancy. The staff will try and help, but bear in mind that the people in the queue behind you won't be happy. :) If you know what you are doing, MSY is a great option. In my city, there is nothing that competes with it. Show details ·  1

Stay away – Avoid this company at all costs and use pccasegear instead. When I collected my keyboard from MSY they advised me that the box looked damaged in transit so they took it out to test and make sure it was working. A few hours later I get a call from them (after they've found where they misplaced the dongle after testing) saying they magically found it inside the box and that I didn't look hard enough. Now that the box has been opened I only get a partial refund. Will never deal with this shady company again

Selling faulty items – Bought a Gigabyte motherboard from Fyshwick along with other components to build my system. I came home and while building the system I found the socket with a bent pin. Store is uncontactable – I visited the Fyshwick store yesterday to enquire on the status of a pickup order, as they were impossible to call on the phone, claiming that their phone was broken. They have what you want but customer service it terribad! – They have a website that does NOT track stock and they do not have phones.... Use only if they are the last resort! The general knowledge of the staff member (usually only one) is typically OK but their returns/customer service is universally awful! Show details

Extremely poor customer service – I ordered a WD SSD and a enclosure from the online store for pickup from MSY Fyshwick. emailed MSY and received no response. I called the Fyshwick store numerous times and the phone was never answered. I tried to use the online assistant, and after 30 minutes I went from 9th in the queue to 8th so I closed the chat window.

I then drove across town to the store to enquire about my order in person. The sales assistant was extremely difficult to understand and eventually I came to understand that the store did not have the enclosure I ordered in stock. I was offered a different enclosure that was $1 more expensive, and despite all the jerking around they were insistent that I paid that $1. The entire process took an incredible amount of time for what it was. There were other staff in the store and despite the phone ringing numerous times none of them answered it while I was there.

I'm not sure what MSY is like with direct delivery from the online store, but I would not recommend in-store collection to anyone. The service was abysmal.

I wish there was a rating lower than 1 star – MSY is the WORST shop I have ever been to, and I mean that. After being sold a faulty product I asked for a refund but they said instead they will get a replacement instead as it's under warranty. just wait. After giving it 4 weeks I called multiple times and nobody ever picked up, so I sent an email. Their response literally said 'we're not sure what's going on we'll email you when we find out'. It was already a week late and they didn't go to any effort to find out what was happening. After 5 weeks I sent multiple emails and tried calling, getting no response each time. After 8 weeks (over a month longer than told it would take) I received an email saying they are not sure what's happening and they will just do the refund. They waited 2 months to give me a refund or even give me an answer!!! I had to go 2 months without my computer!! Not only this they were so rude to me in every encounter I had whether it be in person or over email. No apologies or thanks for waiting... nothing. Now this was really only a minor irritation compared to what happened next. I sent them an email saying that I would be BPAYing them and the time I would be doing it. The (once again) anonymous 'customer service' representative told me they didn't have a biller code so "I don't know how that is going to work."

Great idea. Stick it up the customer with the $1000 order. Make him feel like an idiot for accidently typing 'BPAY' instead of 'direct deposit'. A one line email from an anonymous 'customer service' representative.
