Dear Sir/Madam, There is a new Nescafé Gold Original 400 gm on the shelves of Cole’s supermarket. My question is this new Nescafé Gold original 400gm taste the same as before the smoother version came out. It used to be Nescafé Gold Original and that time the flavour was perfect for me. The smoother version Nescafé Gold without the word original doesn’t suit me. So the new version Nescafe Gold original 400gm is it a rebadged the smoother version or has it gone back to the Nescafé Gold Original flavour recipe before the smoother version came out. Regards, Philip Aung

I totally agree Phillip, I emailed my thoughts last week, nothing better about it, cheaper beans in my opinion.

Nescafé
Nescafé   DM

Hi Philip, we genuinely appreciate you leaving us a product review and at the same time raising your query about our new coffee range. Although there may be a slight confusion based on the labeling on front of the jar, we'd like to confirm that the NESCAFÉ Gold Original with the call out name of "Smoother" is a new blend of 100% responsibly sourced Arabica and Robusta Beans which the end result is a smoother, balanced coffee with sweet aromatic notes and a subtle roastiness. We updated the blend of beans and how we roast them to make a new NESCAFÉ Gold blend, as we are constantly reviewing and adjusting our products to better meet consumer tastes.

On the contrary, we are unable to verify if the NESCAFÉ Gold Original you observed without the "Smoother" label is a rebranded version of our newly formulated blend. Similarly, we cannot assert that it is the original recipe prior to the introduction of the smoother variant. But we can confirm that all current NESCAFÉ Gold Original sku sizes will be changing to the new blend.

We hope that this information proves helpful, and we sincerely apologize for any dissatisfaction you may have experienced with the change in taste.

Is this a deleted line Nescafé Gold Original 400 gm as I am seeing only Smoother Nescafé Gold 400 gm in the supermarket shelves.

Nescafé
Nescafé   DM

Hi Phil, our NESCAFE Gold Original has not been discontinued, however we have made an adjustment to the blend so it is now roasted in batches to preserve the unique flavour notes and aroma. As such, the blend is smoother, and more balanced with sweet aromatic notes and a subtle roastiness.

Well it’s not “original” anymore. It’s nowhere near as good I can assure you

N esCAFE you say its smoother , that,s because its so tasteless and so bland plus your taste must be next to zero , sales of this smoother coffee will be half price once every one has tried it in months to come,.

Dear Sir ?Madam, Recentlly I am not able to buy the Nescafe Gold Original.I went to the Woolworths super market to stock up some Nescafe Gold Original 400 gm bottle as it was on special this week 25 november 2023.The Nescafe Gold Original was not availabe but in that slot where the the Nescafe Gold Original was kept I found Smoother NescaFe Gold.I have tried this Smoother Nescafe Gold from a friend and it taste really foul , the taste of Nescafe Gold Original is far superior and has a unique taste that we have been drinking for 10 years plus. Now my question is The Nestle Company in Australia will still produce the Nesafe Gold Original and will be on sale in the supermarkets or are they deleting this Nescafe Gold Original. I will be very disappointed if this product Nescafe Gold is a deleted line. The Smoother Nescafe Gold which is selling as a New product in Supermarket taste like Horse piss. Regards, Philip

Hi Philip, We recently adjusted our NESCAFÉ Gold Original recipe so it now contains a different blend of Arabica and Robusta beans, which are now roasted in batches to ensure that their unique flavour notes and aroma are preserved. The end result is a smoother, balanced coffee with sweet aromatic notes and a subtle roastiness. The previous blend was not batch roasted and featured more fruity notes. We're sorry to see you've not enjoyed it and we'd love to get more information about your experience so we can share your feedback with our team. Please give our team a call on 1800 025 361, we'd love to chat with you.

Dear NESCAFE, In other words I will not be able to buy the previuos version of Nescafe Gold Original as you are answering that you make in batches and that the batches are making it smmother. In other words you have changed the recipe or formula for the Nescafe Gold and in New bottles of 400 gm it is saying Smoother and also omitted the word Original on the bottle. In essence I would not be able to buy the Nescafe Gold original anymore.Thank you Nescafe now I have to find the old Nescafe Gold original and hoard it, after this if the old Nescafe Gold Original is not produced I will have to move to other premium Instant that would sui my palate. Phil

Pjmatt F.
Pjmatt F.

Correct Phil it is completely foul. Imagine messing with the “original”. They have 10 other products they can adjust but to change the original is ridiculous

ron

I fully agree with you about the original ,the new smoother is so bland no taste one jar of the smooth ,never again,. i will try any other brand like any other person would do, till we find one we like ,you can not make people buy some thing they don,t like.

The taste has gotten even worse - how could that be? Even with the first change (which when I rang Nestle they tried to deny until I kept insisting that a change had obviously been made & it was a "crema added") I finally got the different beans answer but I buy the 320g refill & it looks like completely ground coffee that's incredibly bitter. Has the beans changed to 99% Robusta & 1% Arabica? I've got 3 packets & this stuff just upsets my stomach & leaves an awful aftertaste plus on special is $16 at Coles/Woolworths. I drink about 12 cups a day but goodbye Nestle you can't be trusted on coffee so you're off my list of companies to support.

Nescafé
Nescafé   DM

Hi Karen, we're sorry to hear about your disappointment with this product and we appreciate you taking the time to contact us. We haven't made any recent changes to our blend of NESCAFE Gold Original and it is made from a blend of Arabica and Robusta beans. The blend is the same between our jars and 320g refill packs, however due to the packaging format the appearance of the coffee may look slightly different given it is in a softer pack. If you'd like to chat to the team further please call our Nestle Consumer Services Team on 1800 025 361 quoting your case number #25764663.

When did Gold Blend stop being 100% soluble? Is Gold Blend freeze dried?

Nescafé

Hi Leslie, thanks for taking the time to contact us regarding our NESCAFE Gold Original. Our NESCAFE Gold Original is 100% soluble coffee, made from Arabica and Robusta beans and is freeze dried.

I don’t like it. I’m having to stock pile what I can find from Amazon. Why on earth did you change what was the best instant coffee Nescafé makes and the most popular, to something so different. Please bring it back. Kerrie

How come your coffee has gone up in price from $11.20 to $20 for a 180g jar that has lost the great taste it once had? Definitely not worth that amount of money! Very disappointed!

Nescafé
Nescafé   DM

We’re sorry to hear you’ve been disappointed, we know no one likes a price rise. As the prices of raw materials, packaging and transportation have gone up, reluctantly we’ve had to apply a price increase on our Nescafé range. While we recommend a retail price (RRP), the final price is at the discretion of the retailer. The price varies between products, pack sizes and stores however there will continue to be regular price promotions as determined by the retailer.

An 81% increase has been justified with... this? 81%!

Disappointed, I see it is $14 at Coles. Not $11 but not $20, either.

Lucky you! Both Coles & Woollies where I shop are selling 180g bottles for $20. The 90g bottles are selling for $11. Maybe they’re on special at your Coles.

What is the actual ingredient of the Nescafé gold original refill pack (bar code: 9300605118256)

Asking this question is not because of anything but just because I cannot find the word “ingredient” from the packing. I understand that is 100% soluble coffee, and bean is Arabica and Robusta. But what is the actual ingredient? Does it have any chemicals additives like coffee incenses etc?

Jazzy
Jazzy · Gold

Why did they change the Original Gold Blend? I am guessing it was cheaper to produce the new version. I am now using Dou Egbert. It is. Much better than any of the Nescafe coffees and we have tried most of them!

Jazzy
Jazzy

That does not apply to UK but I do realise it is to use cheaper beans but why not give us the option to pay more and see how that goes before depriving us of a decent cup of coffee? I am sick and tired of companies making OUR MINDS UP, we are the consumer respect us?

Boris Yasminsky
Boris Yasminsky

I agree with you and in fact it doesn't apply to NZ either. For some unexplainable reason, product managers/buyers in Australia - no matter what company they are employed by, believe Australian's want the cheapest product we can get our hands on. I'm the first to admit I'll have a go at a company charging prices I consider too high for the quality, however consumers must have a choice in the end.

For the third time - why are you not paying heed to the multitude of customer complaints? I just posted two questions/comments (two because I thought the first one had gone off into the ether). Following this I found Nescafe's reply to one customer who - like most people - had assumed he was buying the original Nescafe Gold. It stated that "Nescafé Original is the brand name, rather than it being Original Nescafé". Good grief - how utterly devious and unscrupulous is this. Please clean up your act Nescafe - for your own sake as much as for your customers.

Diana B.
Diana B. · Gold Original

Why isn't Nescafe heeding the complaints of its customers about the new bend of Nescafe Gold? The old brand was a saving grace in my life but of late I've found it verging on foul. I just assumed the problem was with me, that perhaps I was going off coffee. So it came as a surprise to just discover that along with the smart new jar was a new recipe and, that there are many others who share my experience. The blind study on the new and old brand is questionable because aside from the fact that opinions were virtually 50:50 it didn't reveal if the participants were long time drinkers of the old recipe. So to reiterate, why isn't the company heeding the complaints of it's faithful customers?

Boris Yasminsky
Boris Yasminsky

Good question Diana B. Nestle closed down the Australian manufacturing and packing division because the government closed the tax loophole in the form of "large international companies not paying taxes in Australia". In the end, its great news for Australia because Billions of tax dollars are essential to the nation however, employment and product manufacture suffer. In the end, we'll all be eating and drinking Chinese crap.

Unfortunately and unusually, I find myself in the majority in finding the Nescafe gold coffee products as near undrinkable. I can't stand granular coffee and the Smooth leaves an acrid aftertaste. I have given away the jar I had left in the pantry. The only saving grace is your Short Black line. Fortunately I have a coffee machine and a plunger to satisfy my need for quality coffee. Which for a 5 cup a day drinker is essential! Time for your product developers to go back to the drawing board. And while you're at it, could you please add a pull tab on the seal. It's ridiculous having to pierce it with a sharp implement to open, leaving most of the seal on the lip of the jar. Paul. Brisbane.

Why do granules leave an unpleasant sediment In cup after drinking?

Boris Yasminsky
Boris Yasminsky

Nescafe uses cheap Robusta coffee beans that are grown in Vietnam, not 100% Arabica beans from South America like many other coffee manufacturers. Add to this the beans are now roasted and packed in Korea with a sprinkle of unfiltered coffee grinds and there's your answer. Cheers

Nestle. How many Australian workers did you make redundant by closing Australian manufacturing of the Nescafe Gold range and centralising production in your Swiss based headquarters?

I love Nestle original gold coffee. I am so distressed because I can,t buy it in Christchurch , New Zealand now. If it didn,t have “original “ on the label, it just wasn,t any good. It is the only coffee I,ve used that you could actually smell a delicious coffee aroma as soon as you poured the boiling water in. Can anyone help me?

Nigel james
Nigel james

Hi Paddy I wrote to Nestle because I was So unhappy with the New Taste and Aroma. This is their reply, they have changed the process!!! "We’re really disappointed to hear that you’re not happy with the recent changes we've made to NESCAFÉ Gold Blend.

This product is now crafted with micro ground coffee which contributes to the richer aroma and more intense flavour. This micro ground coffee is non-soluble, the same as an espresso based barista made coffee."

Paddy
Paddy

Of thanks for that Nigel. I was so desperate for this coffee that if I saw the name Nestle from whichever country I just sent them an email. One of them replied that there wasn,t any Nestle Original gold because they had withdrawn from the area cos of low sales. Another one, a NZ one said that the coffee will be in our ChCh shops at the end of May x would send me a Pkt. I hope it,s not too disappointing.

Forget NesCafe and Moccona coffee and try Nature's Cuppa Organic Freeze dried coffee. Its the only real instant coffee on the shelves these days that uses 100% Arabica beans.

realised it takes different. does not taste right .Now added with cheaper Robusta beans instead of 100% Arabica. not sure what mixture. maybe 90% and 10%.

Not buying any more.

Why have you changed a very popular and excellent coffee - Nescafé Gold Blend - when it was perfect as it was? Have you done it for cost because with so many people railing against it you can’t be happy with all the adverse comments. Is there any chance you will be going back to the original as you can see many people will not be buying it anymore

Hi all, I'm relatively new to the instant coffee scene but I'm hearing a lot of complaints regarding the changes in the nescafe gold blend.

Would you be able to recommend an alternative that tastes closer to the original?

A Dutch Make Douwe Egberts gold is every bit as good as old gold blend

This is what I will continue to buy in the future. I am totally disgusted with Nescafe that they can ruin a good product the way they have and then deny it. They take us for idiots.

rod

Why has Nestle change the coffee beans in Gold Original? No longer 100% aribica beans, now includes cheaper Robusta beans. I note the price hasn't dropped. It tastes horrible.

rod
rod

Robusta beans are a cheaper coffee bean and have some bitterness to their taste. Nestle have seized on the opportunity to save some money. By adding the cheaper Robusta beans and leaving the price unchanged its 'instant' profits ! Unfortunately Nestle didn't think it was necessary to inform their customers and probably hoped nobody would really notice the (new) hideous taste.

rod
rod

So the price has increased by $5 per ?? Assuming per kg, that would amount to what per jar? Not a lot I am guessing. Up the price, or at least inform the consumer
