I have a 1999 Peugeot 206 GTI and I want to know what grade fuel I can use. Cars done 153,000 kms runs really smoothly. I’m guessing minimum 95RON, and I have put 91 in and it still seems to run fine.

I don't have a 206 GTI, but I did have the more powerful 206 GTI-180. The 206 GTI engine is not particularly high performance and it's new enough to have a knock sensor so it'll adjust the timing to suit whatever RON you put in it. Manufacturer would have recommended minimum 97 probably to reflect the models 'sporty' intent, but imo you can ignore that. They had a higher performance GTI 180 (180bhp) model later on which probably would benefit from higher octane fuel, but that's not the engine you have in yours. I've done some experimenting recently with fuel range commuting in Queensland and my personal experience is that 91 RON (*without Ethanol) has returned the best value for money.

I fancy a Peugeot 206 convertible as I live in Cyprus and want to go up into the windy roads with the wind in my hair...but my partner is 19 stone and 6 ft 2 inch tall ...is that a problem

The car is pretty small, like smaller than a regular hatchback. I'm 6 ft 0 and I have to lean back in the chair to drive. So I'm not to sure I would recommend this car. The breaks aren't to great and uphill may be a struggle.

Should i use unleaded 91 or 95 or 98 fuel?

We use 98 fuel with the occasional 95 in our 2001 206 xt. using a high octane Gives better fuel economy and is better for your motor as the high octane has fewer impurities to carbon up your engine. Combine this with full synthetic 5w 40 Penrite oil for less friction and platinum spark plugs, we get 5.5 litre per 100 mm economy. We have done 260000km and the motor never misses a beat. If you can find an independent mechanic who has a love of peugeots to service your car you will never look back. I service my own at the 20000 intervals.

My 206 is a base model manual with 80k. Very perky fuel miser. Had very little trouble. Drive belts come in soon only 85k for 206s. Banged a roo at 100 created $3k as mostly plastic at front so radiator drives up thru bonnet and headlamps connections snap away but repair well. Otherwise weathering OK. You would pay more for the sporty auto, so $9k would be value.
