Avoid this big time. I currently have a legitimate travel claim with the rac and their underwriter tokio marine. I was hospitalised in manila with food poisoning and I paid the near on 4k hospital bill to get out as the insurer did not help me while I was in hospital with the bill. 350 dollars. Now they do not return my calls, do not return my emails and continue to ask for documents that I have sent 3 plus times. This is a scam company. My claim is still "Being processed" . I know exactly what they are doing. Look at all the other bad reviews. They are dishonest and will not help you. Avoid this company. Avoid the rac. They are fraudsters and cheats. Zero star. Bad people!!!!!!!

stressful incident to be over whelming. I have called RAC, emailed RAC and brought it to the attention of RAC and they simply respond, 'take your complaint to Tokio Marine, we don't provide the insurance'. RAC have been taking my money for insurance for 33 years, but this experience has left me to start looking at alternative insurance companies.

Check out YOUI for insurance on cars, houses and caravans, they have been quoting me between 30-40% less.

Be careful, RAC will sell you an insurance product which isn't worth the paper it is written on.

Read your policy before purchase – RAC insurance underwritten by TOKIO MARINE ( To be a good company) Ha. My Jetstar flight to Bali was cancelled after checking in by the airline as I had to be in Bali the next day I purchased a flight with another airline and flew out on my return I submitted a claim for insurance. Claim denied as flight was cancelled by airline, insurance not worth the paper it's written on be warned read the policy before purchase it doesn't cover much. Show details

 Follow-up  · When my wife suddenly fell ill and we had to cancel/postpone everything, which was a bit traumatic, one phone call to RAC took care of getting our expenditure back!! I was very relieved and soon hope to buy a new RAC travel insurance policy.

Great at taking the insurance premium but when a claim arises the message received is "don't care/not interested - talk to the underwriter Tokio Marine" who then adopt a strategy of delay/mislead/don't respond tactics for over 6 months with what seems to be their objective - get the Insured to give up due to the wasted time/stress/anxiety… Read more

Both companies probably recognise the regulators/bureaucrats who are tasked with protecting the general public seem overwhelmed and/or not accountable, and for the hundreds of thousands of Australians having travel insurance claims - you're on your own. The RAC culture ad line 'For the better' seems to be missing 'For Us' instead of valuing their long standing customers. Resulting action - move those insurance premiums to a company that cares. Whilst everyone's situation is different, the Lessons learned - Be careful where you direct your hard earned $; Deal only with trusted companies who value their customers; Research review sites; Don't expect support from regulators/bureaucrats.

Just to note that seems like a little bit of rip off - with couples policy - ONLY I will be skiing ( additional cost add on) however the policy charges on the basis that both will ski ( a single policy sees the ski package price about half of a double policy). Insurance is about risk, if only one is skiing why do I pay for a non risk event being the wife not skiing ... and yes 2 individual policies is more expensive than a family double. So basically the wife has to pay skiing insurance when she will not be skiing!!! money in the bank for RAC!!

I have applied for a International Licence again and was asked what the travel dates were as part of the application yet received it with a 12 mth expiry from date of application? Why not ask the question and ask if thats the date you'd like it to start from? Blatant ripoff! So now I've paid for a 10mth licence instead of 12 mths. Why even bother asking the question when it suggests the 12mth issue would apply and be activated from travel date!? Show details

on memory loss? Took 6 months to get this outcome. And the cover was invalid! She wasn't diagnosed with memory loss at all before booking and paying for the holiday even got a letter from her GP because of her age to say she was fit to travel. She's more than capable doing things on her own . Living alone, no walking aids, very fit woman, still driving, cooking, playing lawn bowls. And Covid delirium is a thing as I've learnt. Anyone can get it. There was no mention of Covid in the report from Tokio marine even though she was in hospital for almost a week on anti viral medication and its plastered all over the out patients report. Even her GP for the medical report wrote it down as a new thing. What the hell RAC!! Trusted Aussie company no more. Mums a life time member I'm a gold member, as some of the other family members and friends. You have lost all of us!

it home from Manila. You'd think that this might come under "delay", for risks covered but no, the fact that the airline caused my loss, means RAC does not want to know. Premiums AND flight expense down the drain. There go $1000. They will not see any of my money again, including for my trips to Peru and Africa in the next two years, as well as my car insurance in future. Disgusting.

year of delays and vague responses. The discrepancy between the high cost of the policy and the company's reluctance to pay out a smaller claim is unacceptable. I cannot recommend RAC Travel Insurance.

RAC Travel insurance still use the underwriters Tokio Marine Company - this underwriters never approve any claims (SEE OTHER CLAIMS REVIEWS). Do not buy RAC travel insurance. RAC ask you to send any complains to them but they will never do anything so DO NOT BUY RAC TRAVEL INSURANCE and any travel insurance underwritten by TOKIO MARINE COMPANY Show details

RACWA Travel Insurance claim shock! – RAC travel insurance (bought in WA) is not through RAC. It is through Tokio Marine insurance. I had to visit a hospital in Europe and therefore make a claim. beyond the timeframe they had indicated I would hear from them. I sent a follow up email. Then I tried phoning the contact number given and was on hold for over an hour before I gave up. I contacted RAC claims via email and heard nothing. I phoned RAC Claims and it was pointed out to me that RAC has nothing to do with the travel insurance. I explained the scenario and I was given an email to lodge a complaint. (I stated that I wanted my complaint to be passed on to RAC bosses as it's their good name at risk.) I lodged my complaint email with Tokio Marine (as apparently they are then forced to answer it) and later received an email regarding my complaint, requesting everything I need to be able to make a claim. I replied asking which documents they have already received from me? (This was because it seemed like it was a fob off email and they hadn't looked at my claim information.) I am still waiting for a response from Tokio Marine travel insurance. (4th February 2025) You don't have to take my word for it but imho it's a case of caveat emptor (let the buyer beware!)

***The above issue has been sorted out to my satisfaction and I have since taken out another travel insurance through this company. ***

last night before returning home we were out at a concert. My phone either fell out of my handbag, or potentially was stolen from my bag. I spent many hours that night returning to venues to look for it and many hours trying to finalise a lost/stolen property report with the LAPD. I was told that my claim for the cost of a replacement phone was refused because I had left my handbag with my sister and daughter while I used the bathrooms. Technically this meant that it was not on my person the entire time. Basically because I was honest when they asked if at any time I did not have the handbag with me, on my person and in my direct line of sight, (for the 5 minutes it took me to go to the bathroom) they refused my claim. So if I had just said the bag was on me the entire time but I don't know where my phone went, they would have paid the claim. I can only wonder how difficult it may be to claim more significant costs. So disappointing.

Steer clear of RAC and Tokyo Marine Travel Insurance – RAC travel. Your claim gets palmed off to Tokyo Marine Insurance who do absolutely nothing. We put a claim in the day after arriving home. premiums refunded as they are happy to take your money but nobody actually does any work for the service you have paid for. It’s been 16 weeks and counting. If I could give them zero stars I would. We have 4 RAC policies that will all be canceled when this finally gets sorted. RAC you need to cut ties with this mob they are giving you a terrible name!

Super slow to process a claim – Terrible service. Nearly 3 months to settle a claim that amounted to less than $300. As a 40 year member I am very disappointed ☹️ in the service. I had ti send multiple emails which were replied to 1 month after sending 2 times. It took several calls and lodging a complaint for this to be escalated and actually settled . provided necessary medical report. Zero useful assistance arranging travel home. We had to organise business travel ourselves. Ironically had one person from Tokio LIfe in Australia initially whilst still in Tokyo appear helpful. We then submitted our claim on return in late Feb/early March. We are still awaiting a formal response AND this is after being told 2.5 weeks ago we would have an answer. To make it worse, the person we were dealing with who is an Assistant Team Leader has just disappeared. No answers to emails or voicemails. Nothing. I rang again and lodged a complaint last week. Supposedly that means it will be addressed by complaints team quickly - nothing at all and I mean nothing. I am out of pocket $12k waiting for them to pay us out. I STRESS AGAIN - THERE IS TOO MUCH IN OUR STORY TO WRITE IN ONE GO BUT THE COMPLETE LACK OF ENGAGEMENT AFTER OUR ORIGINAL CLAIM IS BEYOND COMPREHENSION. THEY'VE JUST DISAPPEARED AND I AM NOW GOING TO DEAL WITH RAC DIRECT TO GET THEM TO DO SOMETHING !! DO NOT BUY THIS POLICY - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
