As a long term RACV member with multiple policies I am personally disappointed that the insurance industry continues to increase premiums beyond both inflation and cpi. There needs to be a change in the way this works as I have increased my excess to help reduce the premium but it helps me understand why people neglect insurance altogether. I have already stopped insuring my house due to this profit grab by the insurance industry. Show details ·  1

I am at a loss for words about how bad I have been treated with the assessments customer service line. I was involved in a serious car accident with an insured RACV driver who has admitted fault with RACV and lodged a claim. The other driver drove with force into my rear passenger side door where my 5 month old baby was seated. My car was written… Read more

off and my daughter was injured and taken via ambulance to hospital. Today I was told I need to send a tonne of photos of the wreck to the assessors so my mother went to the tow yard and did just that even though she was severely traumatised to see a battered baby car seat again. I have then called back this afternoon to enquire if the photos were suitable for the assessment. I was told I need to move the car wreck today to my home or I will be paying for all the tow storage costs and that my car will not be assessed until I do that. Not only is it extremely negligent and unsafe to demand I move a car that was involved in a major collision and has no windows, side doors and is leaking petrol to the front of my house where my car park is, it is also illegal and the police and council will remove it. There was also no consideration for how my family might feel having the car wreck that involved a little baby towed to my house. I was then told on the phone that if i didn't comply I would have to pay for all costs and they will not be going ahead with my not at fault claim until I comply. The girl also told me on the phone they don't send assessors to the tow centre and will not be doing that or continuing with my claim until I comply. Unsure why RACV call line needs to use such threatening tactics when the other driver is insured and at fault and is liable to cover all reasonable costs for there at fault accident these include towing and storage costs, baby car seat and market value of the vehicle. If the photos aren't enough and they need to attend in person they can attend the tow centre like every other assessor does and have the car moved to the wreckers. My car has been at the accident tow centre for one week awaiting claim finalisation. In what should be a simple and easy claims system given the other driver has admitted fault and lodged the claim and the photos and reports etc. I have now spent the entire day on the phone being lied to threatened and subjected to dodgy tactics. When I should be spending time helping my baby recover from the trauma.

Maybe the best! – My car was written off after an accident and RACV paid the maximum amount specified in my policy. Surprisingly, after 2 years, they contacted me again to pay the balance of the car's market value when I had totally forgot about the incident. I was super impressed. was, to one of their assessment centres. Then further weeks to get it assessed and for them to get back to me. Every time I called I was told something different. I even had multiple RACV EMPLOYEES confused and astounded at the complete lack of professionalism and care when taking care of my claim. When dealing with customer service reps from this company make a note of names and times you speak to them.

The level of customer service and professionalism in general shown by this company throughout this process has been abysmal and genuinely laughable at times. I have been a customer of RAC/RACV for 15 years and will never touch another product of theirs again. Neither will my friends or family. 0/5 if I could.

WORST CALL CENTRE – The call centre is the worst when you are in need. When you call they force you to listen to 5 to 10 minutes of a recording about all the irrelevant subjects in the world. i.e Family violence, before they offer you options. person re directs you to another department. Another 10-20 minutes of holding. Each operator was unprofessional except two. If they tell you they will call back they NEVER do. Finally their training and professionalism is 2 out of 10.

Thieves – An absolute rort of a company. An increase of 22% on my policy and didn't even make a claim. Asked them how they could do that and they said the price of parts had gone up and every company was doing this. Basically admitting to price fixing. claims. I started to look around at other policies. When I found several much more affordable policies with the same coverage and less excess I contacted RACV to discuss a possible price match only to be informed that they do not negotiate on 3rd party policies. I could not believe that they were willing to lose a customer rather than negotiate a better price. I have now changed to another insurance provider. I had previously been very happy with RACV but can now say I would not recommend them.

Unfair and unreliable – I put in a claim for an accident and it was obviously not my fault. The other person hit into me! But I have to pay an incredibly high excess because they won't look into it further. Not to mention they told me they would call me to discuss further and they never did, just sent me an email telling me to pay. It took them a couple days to "resolve" my claim because they didnt investigate properly. Show details

excess, i call up racv to check on the progress... they didn't even have my involvement in the claim! Got that sorted and then had to go to Eagle Recovery to step in and deal with RACV. They were simply that pathetic and left me feeling anything but secure. Eagle took care of everything, provided for me a loan car and after 3 months had a great result. I could cancel things with RACV faster. The amount of strain and stress caused by RACV heavily impacted my health. Don't make the same mistake. Forget that RACV even exists. They're brilliant at doing that after they take your money.

Very poor effort to get my car repaired – On December the 11th my car obtained fire damage in the canopy of the ute, the following day I lodged my claim. It wasn't until January 7th after I had called them multiple times regarding the claim, that the car was eventually sent to the repair mechanic. thing has been done on the car, even though the mechanic has a quote for the repair and has been ready to start working on the car for a month. I have been persistent with consent phone calls of around 2 or 3 a week and they still haven't done anything to help get the car repaired. They have giving me the run around, with hours spent simply on hold or waiting to get in contact with the call centre. Hopping this will get resolved ASAP as it has been a very time consuming and mental drawing experience as well it costing me money on car registration and insurance as I don't have the car and can't drive it and the car is also needed for work, thankfully I can drive my grandma's car.

1 star is generous! Money hungry – I was with racv when my car was run off the road by a drug fueled road raging wanka. I was able to get his number plate and police were involved. A report was written up and given to racv so my car could be repaired or payed out. I was told by racv that because he went to jail a week after he hit me they could not ask him if he was responsible. As… Read more

if someone who has a history of over 10 years with the police would say he did it. Even though i had a police report stating it was him and all his details. 7 months later racv decided to call me and offer to fix my car. I was heavily pregnant when this happened and the stress racv caused me was not worth a cent. They offered to reimburse part of my insurance and I Never ended up getting anything off them for my car and the man who rammed me was never held responsible.

Fraudulent practise going on. Tried to make me pay twice – I took out RACV 3rd Party fire and theft insurance on the 25th Oct. Three weeks later they emailed me saying I hadn't paid. I checked my credit card statement which confirmed I had paid. "process" had been completed. A week later I received another nasty email saying that I haven't paid and that my policy was to be cancelled. I called them again. Same story. Cancelled on the spot. Insurance is supposed to give 'peace of mind'. I received none with RACV.

Premiums for under 25 years old do not automatically change when you have a birthday – I have been helping my son by paying his car insurance since he was 19 years old. thought the policy would take that into account. Wrong, the only way to change this is to cancel policy and reapply as a 25 year old. Seriously they cannot work out a computer system that takes into account that you have matured and your driving experience has changed. So basically I should of cancelled the policy and reapplied stating the new age every year he had a birthday. So now all the premiums I have paid have been for a 19 year old. This is a considerable amount that I have lost over the years, so a warning out there, if you have a birthday ring them and get them to adjust or cancel your policy so you can reapply with the new age or loose a lot of cash. Old policy $77, new policy $48.

Removed money out of my account with no explanation – I logged into my bank account to see there were over 50 non-approved direct debits from RACV removing all the money from my account. In this time, I had other direct debits bounce leaving me to incur fees. The money was refunded after several days however I am still trying to follow up with RACV to understand why this happened and how they will improve privacy and protection going forward. At one point someone replied to my email stating "we advise the money would have been refunded back to you" - completely missing the point about the concerns that this has generated for customers and the fact it left me with no money. I have been extremely disappointed with the customer service from RACV regarding this matter.

Intentionally misleading PDS – Operators are able to be very clear about how their coverage works when asked and yet the PDS does not contain clear information on this coverage.
