Hi all, I've got a brand new RB4.5 EFI I got it fill oil & full & it started & now I need it & it's got no spark & have a new spark plug so has anyone had this trouble.
Hi all, have a 3.5, all used to be great until recently when the caravan ac compressor kicks in, the genny goes into over load, tried a smaller genny, 2.0, no probs at all, a tech told me to bypass the o/l reset, this didn’t help either, everything else in the caravan will still run, just not the a/c. Help please, away for 12 months and it’s getting hot in the North of Aus. Cheers

I recently purchased the RB4.5 and am looking for some clarification on the battery charging. The instruction manual is unclear. I’m trying to figure out what wires need to be connected. Let me know if anyone can be of some help. Thanks
where to hell is the Oil filler cover on my brand new rb4.5, first of all the manual say's remove right side cover by turning a knob lower right side of panel ????? what flaming knob ??? right hand panel secured by 3 screws but manual says warranty voided if a proffessional does not remove the covers ???????? lol, yeh ok, you all say their junk but I have it and I need to put oil in the flaming thing, what a joke the manual is grrrrr still yet to start it when I finally figure out where the non diagrammed oil panel is let alone the poor interpretation from mandarin to english. So I am off to a bad start, sic. Help me guys I hate forcing panel clips that I might neccessarily not have to remove. where do I add my oil lmao :D (haven't got to the air filter panel yet the mind boggles) :(
It gets better, now over 24 hours later above post. I phoned IT and was told I would be contacted back. that was about 1pm, now 6.40 pm EST. I finally figured it out. All I needed was for them to say was 3 lugs that recessed into the bottom support the bottom of the right panel and after firstly removing the 3 screws and the top had to be spadged out first, and that was a job because it was extremely tight fit, I wrecked my plastic spadgers and ended up using a putty knife.
Now it gets betterer, lol, I finally got the 450mil of oil in, then slowly rotated the motor 6 times over top dead centre by slowly pulling the cord. Then I switched on and gave the pull start a heave and next thing I had the 5 litres of petrol I put in spilling out of the 4.5 housing all over the back verandah. :( Now my patience has left me) after cleaning the mess up I got the torch and noticed the fuel hose hanging. then looked closer and the cheap piece of plastic fitting was still in the end of the hose where it had snapped off and you could plainly see that it had been stress fractured just barely inside the hose. It was ok until I did a proper starting pull and thats when it let go.
Now my mind is boggling, its a few thousand miles from east coast to the west coast where I purchased it. I have rang my local (Schmidts chain saws and mowers) and after all the petrol stink has gone They are going to have a look at it tomorrow. I dont think I am going to get much support from IT.
I will keep adding to this adhoc review of mine after Schmidts have had a look at it. (have I bought a lemon :) ) yet to hear it run
If anyone is going to bin there RB4, I would be happy to take it for spare parts to see if I can get mine going. Suspect it's the ECU that controls the injector. Disappointing considering only 50hrs old! Oh then there's the battery, like the spares can't buy another one anywhere!
yes if having problems all ways use 98 petrol problem solved and when finished remember to empty all fuel outdo not leave fuel in tank new fuel each time and you will very raly ever have problems
I got red back 4.5 kw generator,and on display for fuel meter is always showing yellow petrol pump and red colour last line,whatever if is tank full.Is it normal or is something wrong.Thanks

I haven't found one. I've had a sparky set up an external battery. I will NEVER buy anything from Redback ever again Rubbish!
make up your own pak using 18650 lithium ion batteries, work out the current the starter draws or take the specs off your defunct irreplaceable battery, buy the Li 18650's batteries with solder tabs, 4 x 3000 Mah in series = about 14 volts (3 amp hour) at the least). To add more capacity required another bank of 4 and wire series parallel that will be 6000 mah (6amp hour) check the stats of the original battery ie if its says 10 amp hour three banks in series parallel will give you 9 amp hours The only drawback is the expense of 18650 L ion batteries. If its a 6 volt battery 2 x 18650's in series parallel building up to the required amperage by adding a couple more banks of 2. (3000 mah is my example you can get higher more the better but more expense) 3banks of 2 (series parallel) all batteries rated 3000 mah (3 amphour) would give you a high discharge battery at 9 amp hour (9000mah) for a 6 volt system or by doubling the recipe 4 a 12 volt system

Hi Team I brought a RB4 kept it stored as new never pull out of box, finally had a use for it, pulled out added oil as spec', fuel, connected batt, started run in as directed by running no load fine, 15min added 350w ran hour loaded up and down add 1000w ran hour checked ran load up and down perfectly then loaded 1500w check ✔️ running in cool of evening purfect running in conditions after 2hr shuts down no power on battery (battery issue from storage) won't start with pull start hard to pull. Gave up that night Next morning remove spark plug and try pull engine to turn is very hard to turn suspecting engine failure? So disappointed was looking forward to this unit, I don't expect warranty as time lapse however can I get parts available to save? Thanks Wayne
Throw it in the bin mate. Mine only runs for around 20min then shuts down. Starts straight away again. So not fuel or spark issues got heaps of oil in it. Took it back 2 times they said they couldn't fault it. Biggest peice of crap. Itech have some good stuff but there generator's are good for boat anchors
I'd cut my losses and throw it away too. We had two and they both were junk.
I love mine. The only issue is keeping the battery charged. I have had a need to remove the spark plug and pull the rope a couple of times to get a clean air/fuel mixture into the combustion chamber though.
My RB4 has 40 hours and just after starting the voltage reaches 276 volts then drops to 0v and shows an OVER fault.
Rb4 stops every 15mins starts straight away. Fuel oil all good. Fuel tank vent ok new fuel filter and spark plug 14 hours on the clock taken back twice said can't fault it
Mate, don’t sweat on Redback answering- they are pathetic!
Need help I lent the generator to a mate he had dramas getting it started and pulled all the fuel lines off how does it go back together

HI, need some guidance.. Just been told I have an inverter problem with my RB4 Gen.
Been advised it would cost around the same as a new one to fix??

THE RB4 is garbage. I went through two of them with just a few hundred hours. My guess is that's why you can't buy them anymore.

Answering my own question here. I cleaned the carby including the jet which had gunk in it, put it back and it runs a treat.
Did it fix your issue completely? Mine shows over but still runs
It did fix it all but now doesn't work again. I hardly use it and it is so finicky. Other petrol motors never have the same problem like my pressure cleaner, lawn mower, etc. I now have to purge all the fuel, put new fuel in clean the jets again, then empty it all out to see if that works for longer storage.
My redback starts and run but only for a minute or so then it shuts down if I leave it a while it starts again but same same
Hi BB, sounds what my genny was doing. Maybe it's full of dust? If so, that's because the air intake is on the bottom of the unit! So you need to run it on a piece of carpet when in the bush. I sent mine to the shop, had it repaired ... Then sold it. Cheerio ...

Hi. From reading the above it's apparent that the Warranty issue is important. Does the warranty carry over to a new owner if it's still in date?
Warranties are not transferable on the RB4.
