Rinnai energy saver 559ft time temp display is flashing. No code, just Flashing A technician just serviced the unit today, and it's still flashing. He had no idea why, and no suggestions as to what it was indicating. I then rang your technical department on 1300 555 545, and they were no help either. :(

Our heater has been emitting an extremely strong odour that has filled our house now for 3 days. Have to open the windows all night otherwise the smell just accumlates, obviously we haven't turned it on at all, even though it is winter now and really cold for the kids, yet it still is giving out this smell.

Have a Rinnai 559ft. 4x6m lounge. Only blows out warm air up to but no more than 1ft from outlet. Only gas appliance in house. This months bill $200. Only use it for an hour in the morning and 2 hours at most in the evening. Absolute rubbish. Energy saver?

Jade

Assuming you cleaned the rear filter… All it can be is starvation of the fan, but unfortunately these heaters are as [Content Removed] ! Not much better than a candle

Adam C.
Adam C.

Lmfao. You must be from Melbourne? Northern suburbs or there abouts. As [Content Removed] is as common a saying in these parts as '[Content Removed].' But yes you are correct and burning candles would probably work out cheaper.

We replaced an old Rennai heater we bought 40 years ago with the 559FT. The old heater, which did not have a fan by the way, performed far better than the new one. Compared to the old heater, the new 559FT is useless because it fails to heat rooms satisfactorily. The area it has to heat with us is 63m2 in Auckland NZ. And it’s no good calling Rennai. They’ve got our money now and don’t really want to engage.

Can this heater be installed in an internal wall with the flue going up the old existing flue that the wall furnace had or being extended to travel through the internal wall and out to the outside wall

Jade
Jade

Do yourself a massive favour and take it back to the shop for a refund before you unbox or think of install it. They are simply too small and run constantly. It will only ever reach 23 degrees on a spring day.

Lorraine, I agree with Jade, we have had a 559ft to supplement our central ducted system on those not so cold days when the use of a full house system is just not economical. From the beginning the 559 was not up to the job. Yes it would heat up eventually, but it could not maintain the selected temperature and was working hard all of the time. This week we had installed the bigger version, the 1005FT. What a difference!! Twice the performance and it is only ticking over we are not game to turn it up full. It rivals the central system for fast heat up and easily maintains temperatures not achievable by the 559. Thank you to the Rinnai tech person who suggested this option. we are very very happy (and warm) We are right at the highest point in the Blue Mountains.

First heater made a dreadful racket and was replaced. Second heater was installed in 2020. It ran very quiet but we had problems with condensation and mould. During 2021 a plumber discovered the flue was not connected since connecting it the vibration and rattle is back on start up and any time it fires up. Any suggestion as to how we can fix the problem. Thank you.

I've just inherited a 559FT in a rental property. Is there a slow fan speed? I don't like being blasted by the faster speed.

No only 1 speed and generally noisy

Rinnai

Hi Paul, Thanks for the question. The Rinnai 559 only had one speed as Terry mentioned above. There is an Economy mode which may assist though. If you would like us to send you an operation manual, please provide your email address via private message and we can send it through

Our heater fan is very noisy almost rattly for first few minutes when turned on. Is this normal?

Terry
Terry

Hi Kirstin. Unfortunately this is normal for the 559FT. It’s a lemon. We have had problems with this unit from day one. After many call outs to their technicians and various parts replaced Rinnai replaced the heater with a new one. Still issues with new one after calls to them again Rinnai would not reply. Have given up and put it down to purchasing at least one lemon in my life time.

We currently have an old Vulcan Quasar 40 wall furnace that is about 30 years old and goes ok but it might be time to replace it. Would a 559FT be ok to replace it. It should cover the same area which is about 50-60 m2. Would getting the old one out and having the wall rebuilt be an too big an issue? Would it be cheaper to run and be a suitable replacement? Cheers, Dennis

Hi Wrinkly, Thank you for your question. You may be best to have a Rinnai contractor come out to assess to location and old unit, however please contact our Technical team on 1300 555 545 Option 3 to discuss this further.

Hi i have the 559ft Rinnai energy saver and it doesn't seem to want to go over 17degrees. Filter is clean has a new fan can anyone help please?

Gary - NZ
Gary - NZ

It's a long shot and a wild guess, but I am wondering if the air temperature and flow sensor is dirty. It happens on diesel engines in my experience, so why not your heater? Low down at floor level, there is a grille. You can press the end catches (tricky to find) and remove it. Turn the heater off and feel around inside behind the grill. You should feel a thin rigid tube protruding down, with a tiny bulb on the end a bit like a match-head. I am guessing it is a temp/flow sensor. Wet a cloth with alcohol and wipe the bulb. There is an aerosol spray can called "CRC MAF Sensor cleaner" (MAF = Mass Air Flow). I don't recommend spraying anything into the heater though. Alcohol on a cloth should work fine, maybe iso propyl alcohol. Or maybe just even Methylated spirits. Do not touch the sensor with bare fingers after cleaning it. Hope this helps, best of luck, Gary (NZ)

Rinnai
Rinnai   DM

Hi Paul, thank you for the question. There could be a number of reasons for the heater not getting to temperature and a service call may be required to diagnose the issue. In a lot of cases it may be that the heater is not the correct size for the room installed. You have speak with our technical department on 1300 555 545 and they may be able to help you. Alternatively you can book a service call online here: external link

Hi Jan I have not found any problem with the heater drying out the air and have had my heater on all day long for the past couple of months. Also I have not used the water tray at all. Do you have the Flued model? I can only suggest that you talk to Rinnai head office in Melbourne Cheers Ron
