What causes the blades to cut lower on one side compared to the other (uneven)?

I went to use my River Raider 420/38 today and it slows to a stop when going up a slight hill. Feels like clutch slippage? Anyone know much about the clutch, is it adjustable? Sometimes clunks a bit when going into gear and sometimes a grinding noise like the gear hasn’t engaged properly (put foot on brake/clutch, release and it is normal again). Been a great little machine until now

Hi. I have the 1538 model. It is in excellent condition and mows very well BUT it will not start unless i use my car battery and jumper leads. Even when I charge up its own battery, I turn the key and it goes clunk or makes a stuttering sound. i have also changed the battery. When I use the jumper leads it starts easily. Any ideas please?? Thanks in advance.

Without a doubt, the toughest most reliable mower I have ever had ! I cut bushes and throw them into a pile 2 feet high and drive over them to mulch them . Up to 25mm thick . I cut my paddock that used to be a car wrecking yard and come across half buried axles, springs, bolts, chunks or steel and water pipe . It trows them 20 metres, puts deep cuts in the steel, chops 5.8 bolts halfway through ! It stalls the motor sometimes and stops it dead . Turn the key and away it goes ! The thing is a beast . I bought it used and it still has the blades it came with . I drag motors down to the shed with a chain and it is my right hand ! If I could buy a new one today I would not hesitate !

I have a new Raider model. I was using it and got off the seat before cutting the engine off . Then after starting it again it refuses to go forward or back. No matter what I tried it was no go. I had to push it back to the shed. Anyone know what I can do?

Hi, I have a 2011 Rover Ranger 420/38 ride on mower called Rita. I've had Rita for not quite 6 months and although a bit of an oil burner, she is a tough little machine. One day she sounded much louder than usual so I thought I'd treat her to a new muffler... at the same time, she got an oil and oil filter change, a new battery and a new spark plug... now when I go to mow with her, she starts and runs fine but only for a couple of minutes... once she is warm, she splutters and blows puffs of smoke out the exhaust.... when I stopped her and checked her out, I could see what seems like oily something in the air filter and the oil on her stick smells a bit like petrol.... So far what ive read online points to the valves / needle and seat / carby... I have the operators manual for her but I cant see anywhere in it on how to work on her... can someone please point me in the direction of where to find a workshop manual which will show me how to check these things? Looking for starter motor

My rover raider 20/42 operating hours reads 1520 over an 8 year lifespan which is around 3.5 hours every week. That has not happened. Anybody have an explanation?

My Raider when in cutting mode and is warm tends to stop when when I turn the wheel, it only does it in cutting mode.

Oil level appears to over full when mower has been standing for at least a day. If you start it and let it run for approx. 30 sec, then turn it off, and wait about 5 min and check the oil, now it is low? And does blow smoke through exhaust. the cylinder head gasket was checked and replaced, cylinder head bolts re torqued to specks. The cylinder bore is not scored and appeared ok. I have not done a compression test on engine. Anyone else have problems with the MTD 420 cc engine.

My 20/42 won't disengage, the blades just keep running whether I push the button in or pull it out. The key is in the correct position. I need advice please.
