Lots of possibilities. Check the exhaust spark screen isn't clogged with carbon. Change the oil. Drain the fuel to remove any impurities like water. Make sure it's fresh UL95 no ethanol. New filter sets at Bunnings. Including air. Then drain carburetor bulb and clear needle valve.

I would find a mower shop mechanic to do a service. IMHO they are cheaper in the long run.

Once it trips the breaker the light stays on until the load is removed and you reset the breaker by pushing in the small red button. If it's still tripping it's faulty. Take it back to Bunnings. Our latest one was only 3 months old and the motor failed so we got a refund. Been through four Ryobis now all in the warranty period, all different problems, and won't get one ever again.

We need house backup because we are off-grid, so we are hard on generators. A Japanese original Honda 2KvA lasted 10 years including during house building, then a Chinese Honda only six months, a Genquip diesel 2 years, GMC 6 months, Kipor under 12 months (twice), Ryobi 1-2 years (three times). The "inverter" ones died the fastest. You don't need such smooth power for most electronics these days, and they don't cope well with pumps or power tools.

Never buy a cheap generator on Ebay - new or used. (We have sold all our dead/dying ones there, or gone back to Bunnings within 2 years with two Ryobis. We keep original packaging for doing just that). Now we have a Gensys GEN6S diesel from Blue Diamond that can run two water pumps, washing machine, dryer, large TV, floodlights, and workshop tools with no power fluctuations. After 2 years it is faultless. You get what you pay for with generators.

POSTSCRIPT: The Gensys has died within a month of the warranty ending. Does that tell you something about Chinese generators? It's time Australia was able to make our own mowers, chainsaws, generators, etc. We did it before, but "free-trade" has shut down our manufacturing under the Conservative and Labor economic rationalist governments.

How far past 2 years and do still have the receipt? If just over you may get a claim. Talk about ACCC 'Fit for purpose' and 'Reasonable life expectations'. etc. Don't be put off by first refusal.

Pensioned my first Ryobi at 7 years sounds similar problem. An electrical/inverter problem. My was very high hours. Yours low hours, if no claim, worth a call to Ryobi. Costs nearest repair agent. Be cautious DIY 240 volt potentially lethal.

Normal Unleaded Petrol for This Generator.

Preferably 95 or 98 octane, not 91, and NEVER alcohol e-10 etc.

Have you tried putting clean fuel in the tank?

Mine starts every time. If you bought it from Bunnings take it back and they should replace it as faulty.

These Generators do tend to suffer from what's known as "Vapor Lock", if they've been sitting idle for some time. Remove the side panel and the air filter, squirt a little bit of something like "Start Ya Bastaard" into the throat of the Carburetor, start it up, wait a bit for it to start running properly then replace the air filter and cover.

Change the spark plug but make absolutely sure it is IDENTICAL to the one you remove. Also clean the air filter.

Mine is a 1000 watt and runs on unleaded, The noise level is unacceptable.

The unit itself is great.

Use 95 or 98 not 91 or e-10 etc.
