The same fault has now occurred again in 2025, leaving the appliance unreliable and unfit for purpose. I was a fan of Samsung but never, ever again will I purchase anything from them! The amount of effort and time, the stress it causes chasing them, to do something about a product with known issues is ridiculous! One could say, criminal! This fridge was $2500, not even 10 years old and it has again broken down. I'm over it! Once again i will give up my time and energy, to ring, chase, follow up, repeat, until I am satisfied. Samsung, do better, this is not ok!

UPDATE: Back and forth to Samsung. They offered 15% discount on a new fridge. SAMSUNG YOU ARE A JOKE. People, be warned, stay clear!!

broke down -Samsung sent a company out and they said in their report to Samsung replace it as will cost more to fix it -Samsung first offered me ( I think it approx 55% discount) ,then they came back with a 15% discount and then came back with a 40% discount -BUT the water has done major damage to my FloorBoards and Bulters Pantry and Underneath the house . All up EXCLUDING a new fridge is approx $9000. Samsung does not want to know. - I am taking them to NCAT on the 28/4/25 at 9.15am. It has been a joke with NO fridge for nearly 4 months

Biggest piece of crap ever. Paid $3500 and worked well for a year. Ice maker stopped working, kept icing over every few months. Recently freezer defrosted and lost everything. Replaced the defrosting temperature sensor which had green corrosion all over it, now fridge and freezer won’t come to temp or cool so I guess I’ll just keep replacing parts until it works properly. Will never buy Samsung again

notification to Extended Care Plan provider our fridge was inspected by insurers service technician, a new ice maker component (box) was ordered, and fridge was repaired. Fridge ice maker is now working good as new. Happy to recommend this fridge, however I recommend you also purchase an 'Extended Care Plan'. Finally, only use brand recommended water filter. I tried using less expensive generic filter. It leaked and caused a mess.

Great fridge if worked as stated too many problems after a few years – Have a problem with temp inside fridge..fan ices up every couple of weeks also back panel of fridge ices up most times. We have had a poor experience with this fridge. Loved the look and the functionality of it, especially with the middle draw and it was what convinced us to purchase it. years after purchase the fridge started cooling/defrosting intermittently. The warranty service team fixed the fridge by replacing the icemaker and motherboard. The technician that visited said it was a common problem. Early in 2025 the fridge again started cooling/defrosting intermittently. I think it may be the same problem that happened 2 years and 4 months ago. I think a fridge should last more than 6 years and also that what seems to be a recurring problem should not happen every 2 or 3 years. Reached out to Samsung explaining all this but was told they couldn't help. Despite loving the fridges features and ease of use its not worth buying another Samsung fridge unless it can show reliability.

The only thing I can take from this is Samsung is of the opinion that a 3 year major failure followed by another major failure 3 years later on for a $2345 fridge is normal.

It’s a poor effort on fridge reliability.

Samsung state they have no record of this event!!!. After another year the (new) ice maker started freezing over again so I just decided to turn that part of the fridge off. Now in its 6th year with the extended warranty ceasing only 6 months ago, the fridge fan has stopped working. Had an absolute worst time trying to get Samsung to try and get a techy out to look at the problem which after countless phone calls and escalating the complaint they finally agreed to it. Had a technician out today who said its a fan freezing over due to the fridge not defrosting properly. Possible cause are faulty sensors from manufacturing!!!. Do you think Samsung want anything to do with the repairs? I hope they do. A 6 year old fridge that costs over $3,000 breaks down as no fault to the owners falls under Australian consumer Law. Any reasonable person would expect an appliance costing that much should last longer than 6 years. I hope Samsung do something about this as we have had nothing but problems with this lemon of a fridge. A class action lawsuit in the USA and countless complaints from customers in Australia, surely Samsung know what low standard fridges they have manufactured. I await their reply.

Lemon – I’ve owned this fridge for a while, and it’s been nothing but a disaster. The freezing issues and the ice maker have been constant problems, and to make matters worse, Samsung couldn’t care less. Their response was basically, ‘Tough luck, you’re on your own.’ It’s appalling that a company of their size has such terrible products and even worse customer service. The point is that this fridge was sold with known faults and we the consumer were never warned. An average lifetime of a fridge should be 10-20 years. Crap fridge, avoid – Our fridge is 5 years old. The ice maker stopped working after 3 months and then our fridge completely stopped working. The lights came on, but that’s about it. Someone came out and ‘fixed it’ only for it to happen again 6 months later. It was replaced with a brand new one and the EXACT same thing happened again. failed to find as doors were taken out before installation and the water leaks from tje fridge damaged the s/n plate. I tried to explain that a few times then I have given up. One family member was lucky and got a replacement new Fridge, two of us haven't. Now I have to defrost fridge every few weeks manually. Ice maker has been dead for years; sadly I use Ice trays now . it’s outside of warranty. Second unit worth $$$$ lasting just under 5 years. Been reporting issues with it since 2023 to the manufacturer with no help provided. Worst experience ever!

"Fob off with bad attitude" Especially from the UK based PA. [Name Removed] CEO and President Escalations. If they are going to fix anything then they charge you for it. I got a new ice maker through warranty of the company purchased through. Samsung did not help at all. I replaced the unit and the same thing happened. I looked up on the internet and loads of people with same issue sealing up gaps with sealant etc. None of that worked. The problem is a design defect. The gap in the ice unit where the ice is released into the bin is too narrow and the ice gets clogged in the gap then stacks up because the bin is not full and then the whole thing freezes into one big ice cube cluster and the unit cannot then eject any ice into the bin. It really is a piece of Junk. To the rest of the fridge.. the drawer rollers break up and crumble after 2 to 3 years. There are parts in the inside that begin to rust and make the nice clean fridge look old and dirty. The salad drawers are poorly designed and trap dirt underneath. See pics, no need to show ice machine you can find pics of that all over the net. not the best for food hygiene and high bacteria counts. Temperature reading on the display is just not true. Probe tests show food at 8-9 degrees with display of 3 deg C.

Dont get me wrong I have loved this fridge freezer mostly but have grown to hate Samsung over their abysmal service. So much so I have changed all of the family mobiles to I phones and avoid all Samsung products like the plague. Just purchased 2 smart tv's guess which brand I did not buy.

In the US you could jump on the back of the class action law suit and join thousands of customers with the same issues. In the UK you just have to vote like I have with your wallet. The only Samsung product in my house or cars and offices is a single dead S 7 Edge phone. Well done Samsung

The Ice Maker has always had a problem with freezing, which stops working. Even if you follow Samsung's instructions, empty the tray and use ice every two weeks, this does not stop it from occurring. To the point that we turned off the ice maker and stopped using it for years...

When this first occurred, it was under warranty. I contacted Samsung, and their response was to do what I said above and to turn off or defrost the fridge when this occurs... To expect that you will in this day and age and ask me to turn off the fridge to defrost for what is a manufacturing defect is a step beyond belief and no doubt, some reengineering was required to fix their design issue. It also risks the food and content of the fridge and nobody wants that.

I have now gone through the steps of getting it working again, but know that this is only a short-term fix and will happen again very soon...

We recently had visitors, and they asked about the fridge, and my response was very blunt: "I would never recommend a Samsung fridge".

Samsung USA was subject to a Class Action; however, for Australian customers, this design defect was ignored. You will see Samsung's comments to contact support, which is non-productive.

least every month until someone told me Samsung would still fix the Ice Makers in these fridges as there is a worldwide issue and is a design fault. I rang Samsung and their support and service centre team were great, they sent someone out to replace the Ice Maker and it now works fine. But nothing else does anymore. :(

The problem is that after they also did the free "service" while replacing the ice maker, the fridge no longer gets below 4.6 degrees when set to 1 degree. Anything over 5 deg is at risk of bacteria growing so we called them out again. They then replaced all the circuit boards. I connected my wi-fi thermometer (used for BBQ cooking) and it showed that it still would fluctuate between 4.6 and 10 degrees. The freezer would fluctuate between -20 to 0 when set to -23 deg. What is displayed on the front screen is NOT the real temperature. They came back and took the fridge back to their factory to replace the compressor. When it was returned I tested it in various stages (empty fridge/ full fridge) but the problem remained. After another visit where they could see it wasn't working but no "errors" were showing on their tests, Samsung called me to say, "Bad luck, your fridge isn't covered under warranty", even though it was fine before they touched it. We have been without a working fridge/freezer, relying on a borrowed friend's fridge, for nearly 3 months!

The best Samsung can offer is a 15% discount on a new fridge. A replacement fridge that has the same features and size is $3,500+, so while 15% is a lot of money, I'm throwing out a $3.0K fridge that was working fine before they touched it. I will not risk Samsung again! You shouldn't either.

After checking online reviews of Samsung fridges, their inability to keep food at a safe level is a common problem, as is the ice maker failing. Samsung fridges should be avoided or you and your family risk getting very sick.

response that they will not offer a charge free remedy. The majority of our major appliances in our house are Samsung and after the treatment from Samsung about an ongoing issue that has effected these fridges will now look to other brands when making future purchases. It is apparent that Samsung do not support their products even when they know they are faulty. There is a reason they are discontinued. If we had been told when purchasing this fridge it only had a 6 year lifespan there is no way we would have purchased it. A fridge in this price bracket should last a lot longer.

Samsung's response to our concerns has been far from satisfactory. Despite sending someone to inspect the fridge, the conclusion that it is irreparable due to its age and subsequent refusal to offer a free-of-charge remedy is disheartening. What adds to the frustration is the belief that this particular model may have a factory default, which Samsung seems unwilling to acknowledge.

The offered solution of a 15% discount for the purchase of another Samsung product is laughable, especially considering that better deals are available in current sales. More importantly, after this experience, it's challenging to consider sticking with the Samsung brand when customer concerns are treated with such indifference.

In conclusion, our experience with the Samsung 680L French Door fridge has been a letdown. The recurring issues and the lack of a meaningful resolution have left us questioning the reliability and customer care associated with the Samsung brand.

Australia, wanting to know everything about when i bought it, where from, receipt, etc. supplied all those details and they ignored the emails for weeks. I Finally spoke to someone on Samsung live chat, they agreed to send a service technician out. The service Tech attended, again said this is a know issue, replaced the Ice maker unit, replaced the rear back panel inside the fridge. Worked ok again for another 6 months and now the horrible fan noise is back again ! Samsung know this is an issue with this deign of fridge, there is a class action against them in the US for these fridges, yet they do nothing to rectify the issue, make it as difficult as possible to contact them and get a resolution, hoping the consumers think it is all too hard and just go and buy another fridge. That may be the case, people will buy another fridge but I doubt it will ever be a Samsung again, and then consumers link bad experiences to Samsung so are reluctant to buy any of their other products either. For a company the size of Samsung, they should have the customer focus to suck it up, withdraw these models from sale and either refund or replace the fridges that consumers have written to them with complaints.

our fridge in September. It’s November now and we still haven’t got refund. We tried to call Voc team and we waited for 20-30mins to talk to and they just cut us off while we wait. We sent few emails asking when we get refund to Voc team. No reply. Are they just going to ignore and not going to refund? Samsung asked us to fill in the form within 3 days(make us hurry)but they take their time and ignore customer.

We need fridge so we had to buy new one before we even get refund(money) even though it’s not really our fault we bought faulty fridge.

consider is a long enough life for a domestic refrigerator, and in some cases that may be true. However, a properly maintained refrigeration system should last 10's of years and I have maintained the fridge, regularly cleaning the condenser coils of dust, etc. There are basic shortcomings in the design that make it prone to fail after several years, in most cases simply due to loosing gas. This may be intentional, as in why make a fridge last 20+ years which is not difficult to do, when you make it fail after 8 and therefor sell 2 or maybe even 3 fridges in the same period of time. Manufacturers simply have to condition the consumers to only expect fridges to last <10 years and they double their profits instantly. Check out all the different videos on YouTube regarding problems with Samsung French Door refrigerators and see for yourself.

Prior it loosing gas there are shortcomings in sealing air movement around internals of the fridge (out of sight, under covers), that cause unnecessary build-up of condensation, which leads to premature icing and it having to perform auto defrosts. If they built it properly, they should be comfortable warranting it for at least 5+ years. Sure, most people may not understand the condenser coils should be checked for dust buildup, and cleaned at regular intervals. Being at the rear of the fridge and under covers that include the compressor and some electrical connections, may rightly be hesitant to do so. A well-designed fridge could make this process easier, even routine. If the condenser coils were at the front or even at the back and under a clip-on grill allowing them to be accessed much easier, without potentially accessing electrical components, they could be vacuumed out on a bi-annual or annual basis. My parents have a fridge of this design, and it has been going to 20+ years.

Mine was ready for the tip and I managed to breath life back into it. This may not be the best place for self-repair advice but I came here after mine failed, so others may do the same. The only reason I gave it 2 start for maintenance and not 1, was because they used R600a refrigerant and this is isobutane or essentially the gas used by many of the portable camping stoves, like 'Gasmate', although I would get R600a which is easy enough. This means semi-capable people can do some repairs/re-gassing themselves, as you do not need an AC license in Aus. to purchase and work with the refrigerant (it is flammable!, it's used in camping stoves after all). My attitude was that the fridge was already stuffed and I was looking at $3000+ for a new one, so spending $100 and a Saturday morning to try and fix it was likely worth the effort. You can get the gas and hose online or at an AC Supplier like I did, along with piercing taps, etc needed to do the job yourself. There are many videos on YouTube on how to do it. Watch them carefully, as overfilling with refrigerant can damage the compressor. This is easy to avoid, just weigh the gas can on kitchen scales as you fill, add small amounts, since with the piercing valve in place, you can simply add more any time you like in the future. If it is low on gas you should try and fix the leak, or just top it up every 12 months or so if the leak is very slow. The common sources of the leaks seem to be in the tubing sitting in the evaporator tray, which is hard to access and repair, however luckily on mine, I suspect it may have even been the crimp joints on the original factory filling line, since there was only one and it did not appear to be brazed, simply relying on the crimp alone to prevent gas leakage. I was able to get mine working perfectly again (as least for the last week since doing the repairs), but I was lucky the tubing in the tray appeared to be fine, as that would have been tricky to repair. In that case, you would likely bypass it, but you would need to cut and solder lines together and have a vacuum pump to do that. This is still something you can do yourself as I changed the filter dryer and soldered in an access port on mine, but it was a LOT more work than simply installing a piercing tap and adding some gas. Videos on YouTube on how to use the vacuum pump on a fridge, etc. You can also try and stop the movement of air around the coils inside the fridge. The drain piping at the bottom of my fridge was perished and cracked allowing air to more easily exchange in and out of the fridge bring in moisture with it. Again there are videos on YouTube about this problem with these fridges.

should last 10-15 years, this is well before normal durability of this fridge. Samsung has not offered any remedies, and won't give us written confirmation on to what the fridge issue is just told us we can go on to their website and purchase another fridge. I've escalated, and put this in writing as well. Having now read customer reviews and if others have experienced similar product issue...i'm shocked!

Under Australian consumer law... How long the warranty against defects applies Warranties against defects usually apply for a set amount of time. After the warranty expires, the consumer guarantee of acceptable quality usually still applies. This means that if there’s a problem with a product, the consumer likely still has a right to a repair, refund or replacement, even after the warranty period. Businesses must not mislead consumers into thinking that their rights are limited to the remedies or timeframe set out in a warranty against defects.

Horrible customer experiences, no "Voice of the Customer" exists. Would never purchase Samsung again after this experience.

The issue is so common with this model.

They won’t give us written confirmation on to what the fridge issue is just told us we can go on to their website and purchase another fridge.
