SAMSUNG SELLS DEFECTIVE REFRIGERATORS – Initially started off as ice maker getting jammed. Then we would find occasional sheet of ice lining underside of the fresh food drawers so an avalanche of ice would slip out unexpectedly. Then the fridge started to go from sporadically pooling water and icing out the refrigerator compartment so that all our food in the fridge would be frozen… Read more

solid. Samsung sent out a tech initially to replace the ice maker - only for the same issue to recur a week later. When I called in about the fridge freezing over they sent a technician from Woolley who took one look at the fridge and said it was a known issue and it is not reparable.

Samsung phone consultant advised me that a replacement would be sent out, especially after I pointed out to her how time sensitive this matter is as I keep my life-saving medications refrigerated. I was then referred to the VOC team who "resolved" my issue by basically telling me I could get a discount if I spend thousands of dollars on a new fridge.

I pointed out that the fridge had already frozen over and spoiled my medication a number of times and how life-threatening this could be.

The VOC member flippantly said there was no way I could escalate this further and that his decision was FINAL.

Overseas, people have taken class actions against this fridge and been given a replacement. SO DISAPPOINTED. SAMSUNG NEEDS TO REPLACE THIS UNIT.

the call centre is located overseas and they don't seem aware of Australian Consumer Law. Don't spend thousands on a Samsung fridge. Like everyone else's reviews they will only last the warranty period then they will tell you to buy a new one.

IF IT IS A KNOWN DEFECT, THEY SHOULD REPLACE IT OR GIVE YOU A REFUND. SAMSUNG ARE SELLING DEFECTIVE REFRIGERATORS

extremely poor product and service – We Purchased a samsung french door fridge via AppliancesOnline along with the extended warranty on 12/01/2017. The fridge started having an issue soon after the purchase (fridge compartment was noisy). Upon contacting Samsung they had tech sent out from the authorised repair centre who had to replace a component. The same issue occured multiple… Read more

times within the extended warranty and ended up with similar fixes. We had asked for a replacement unit which was denied by the repair centre. This year again the same issue reocurred multiple times and the repair centre had the tech replaced the same part that many times. On the last visit, we were advised by the tech that the fridge is beyond repair. We have send all necessary documentation to Samsung, as forwarded by the repair centre for Samsung to look into it (Nov 23) and have been waiting for weeks for a response from Samsung. In Jan 24 , a representative from the overseas Customer Service called to inform that they cant offer us no resolution. Upon escalating the matter further, Samsung Australia called and offered replacement/refund but the fridge has since been disposed as we had to get a new one. Now Samsung is saying that they need the broken fridge for the refund/replacement, to which we told them that on numerous occasions that we spoke to Samsung, none of their representatives advised us to hold on to the broken fridge.

This Samsung Fridge is the worst fridge I've ever owned – Fridge started playing up 2 years ago. Cooling fan at the rear always freezes over. Only way to fix it is to switch it off, throw away all your perishable food while the ice melts . So bad now I need to manually defrost it almost fortnightly. Called Samsung customer support who said as it isn't happening constantly there's nothing they can do.… Read more

This is the worst fridge I've ever owned. It's only 6 years old and it's destined for the scrapyard. What a waste of money and waste to the environment as it's going to landfill.

Update: Samsung rep contacted me, but when I responded I never heard back. Fridge fan has gotten worse over the past week. Can hardly hear the TV over the loud grinding. We just forked out $4,000 for a replacement fridge. Now the ice maker has also stopped working and it's not keeping food fresh very well now either. New LG one arrives sometime next week. Hope this pile of scrap metal can limp along until then.

We love our fridge – We love our new Samsung fridge. The doors opening in the middle allow for larger items to be put in the fridge ie baking trays. There's so much room! The 4 liter water is easy to refill. Automatic ice is a function I'll never go without again. Its so handy if someone forgets to refill the water. The fridge is easy to clean and runs very quiet.  Show details

Awesome Refrigerator – Very quiet running, easy to clean and has a built in memory in case the power goes out. The versatility of the shelving fantastic and I love the freezer baskets. They make keeping up with things so much easier than a conventional style fridge. I am very pleased with my purchase.  Show details

Much Better than a Side-by-Side Fridge – I'll start with the negatives. It is noisy when it is running (like listening to road construction machinery working in the distance). Because this fridge is located the on the other side of our bedroom wall we can actually hear it when we're in bed. You notice it especially after the motor/compressor stops because it is silent. Much noisier than… Read more

we expected. Also, the doors should open further so the vegetable drawers can be more easily accessed/removed.

I love having a french door fridge - I can fit so much more in (compared to our previous side-by-side), everything is at eye level, the shelves aren't overly deep so things don't get lost in the back, the LED lighting is excellent, adjustable shelves make it easy to accommodate large bottles quickly and easily. The door shelves are very large on the right side, the left side is limited but that's because of the ice-maker/water dispenser. You can still fit smaller items but it isn't overly practical.

The freezer is quite large and although it is smaller than our side-by-side freezer, I can still fit a lot in and surprisingly I prefer it. I was forever re-arranging things in the side-by-side because everything needed to be stacked 'just right' to fit. This freezer I can drop things in and I'm done. It's got a handy slide-out drawer for breads or ice-creams and a smaller fixed basket for tiny items (ice-packs, sausages, bacon etc).

The water dispenser is the best thing about the fridge. We've never had this before and it was just an added bonus that this fridge had one, Now that we have one, we will never be without one. Everyone in the family drinks much more water now because of its convenience. The drip tray is also very well designed - no drips on the floor.

The aesthetics of the fridge are also very nice, it looks classy, it's easy to clean and the handles are very sturdy. Overall I am very happy with this fridge (although it's only been 2 months). I would have given it 5 stars had it not been for the excessive noise it makes when running.

Do Not Buy This Fridge – Bought this fridge in 2017 along with Gold Service Concierge warranty. November 2021, Water started pouring out between the fridge and freezer. Totally disappointed – Purchased 7/08/2017, repaired under warranty within 2 years. Repaired again 2021 all fans replaced. Gone again 23/07/2023, fan so loud can't stay in the kitchen with it. The fridge we had previous was a Samsung cost almost $5,000. It lasted 10yrs with no trouble. so we thought we would go Samsung again. Stay away from Samsung fridges!!!!! – I bought the Samsung SRF653CDLS 6 years ago. They actual told me its the way I used the fridge that have caused it! I was livid to hear that because I know I am a very meticulous person who looks after all my things carefully and use it just like any other person would. So how can they just assume that its the way I use it thats causing it instead of owning that their fridge is a lemon? Samsung customer service is absolutely terrible and not in the least empathetic or understanding or even professional. The same issue of the fridge last time cost me $300+ with only 90 day warranty which I think is pathetic when they claim to use original parts for the service. I lost a whole heap of food which in this time of ever rising expenses is not affordable and they offered me a 15% discount for any new products purchased which I would run far far away from! I spoke to a few people who work in the repair industry and they all told me to stay away from Samsung fridges. In actual truth 3 of my friends have Samsung fridges and when they heard about my fridge they told me that all of them had issues with theirs too. Everyone I have talked to says really bad things only about Samsung fridges and online reviews say the same. I should have looked before I bought this load of crap! So in conclusion: Dont lose your money if you want a fridge to last you a good few years. Stay way from Samsung.

Never-ending problems – My SRF653CDLS is 5 years old and has been a never-ending disappointment. the time, the ice maker freezing up and the water pooling at the bottom of the fridge has returned and needs to be addressed on a weekly basis. As well as this, the ice maker no longer shuts off automatically when the hopper is full so it has to be operated in manual mode. For a care-free fridge, this fridge needs a lot of care. When my patience runs out, and it will, I will buy a new fridge and it will definitely not be a Samsung.

Bought our Samsung French Door Fridge/Freezer from Appliances online, and it was a lemon, but Samsung service was worse – On four occasions the rear compartment froze within the fridge, blocking the rear fan from cooling the interior, thereby only able to cool to 10degrees on each occasion. On each occasion, within the warranty, Samsung sent a technician to replace the rear panel. After the first attendance they came back within a week because the same thing… Read more

recurred. On the fourth occasion I asked the technician to tell me if it was reasonable to seek a refund because I didn't have confidence the repair would do the trick, as we were living off a mini bar fridge during the pandemic for a family of 4, and he gave me two options, proceed with repair or ask for refund.

We rung Samsung, they said they would offer a fridge replacement or fully refund the fridge cost. This was the critical moment. The finer detail, lost in email communication, was that the fridge had to be collected by Samsung, and then once returned the refund processed. Based on the verbal discussions with them this wasn't clear, and we were struggling over two weeks with the entire family at home during the lockdown on a bar fridge. We were happy that Samsung would refund the cost of the fridge, so we bought an Electrolux from Bing Lee, who thankfully offered to pick up the old fridge and deliver the new one.

It was after this that the admin team/finance at Samsung claimed the technical requirement to have the old fridge back was a requirement by Samsung finance, and that the finance department was strict on these things. So we essentially have no refund from Samsung, and have lost $1990.00 with this exercise. the fridge was 4 years old.

It was a bitter experience and we know legally we had to swallow it. But from this point onwards our customer service experience with Samsung remains bitter and we shall always look at alternative manufacturers.

Lemon – The fridge does maintain and display accurate temperatures for fridge and freezer. The internal setup is good. The ice make is atrocious! This fridge has the worst design in history – Firstly, we own TWO Samsung fridges in this household. Both have been purchased within the last 5 years. I want to make it clear that I really wanted to like this product. The design looks great in the kitchen. I love the great use of space on the interior. The water and ice dispenser is a bonus, but wasn’t a prerequisite. This particular… Read more

fridge has been owned for just over 18 months and has two issues. Needless to say, a quick YouTube of “Samsung Grinding noise” and “Samsung deli tray won’t open” confirms this is a common issue, and that EVERY SINGLE ONE of these units are faulty. If you don’t have the issue now, hold onto your hats because it’s coming.

I will explain these faults further below, but before that, let’s get to the functionality.

I’m a fan of compartments and this has satisfied me with the deli drawer and crisper units. That said, it is a total joke to clean the drawers without removing the (often full) shelving on the sides of the doors as they don’t open wide enough. Why did you do this? Samsung, please.

I like how the upper shelf and mid shelf can be adjusted to suit tall items; in case you have a big cake or whatever. That was cleverly thought of, but does not take away that the fridge is a lemon.

The noise level itself was fine. A light hum when the fan kicks on, that’s not an issue at all. It’s just when the fan is affected by the common fault, then you have dramas.

ISSUE 1: DELI TRAY For some reason the deli tray wasn’t coming out. Thinking the wheels had gotten stuck, I was able to determine that there was a literal sheet of ice lying at the bottom of my fridge and had frozen the deli draw like glue to the bottom of the unit. A quick search and many YouTube tutorials, and it appears Samsung’s have a drainage issue where an overflow of condensated water drips to the bottom, causing it to freeze and be undetected. Great. I’ve left it and remind myself to open the deli draw every single day. The frozen sheet water still remains.

ISSUE 2: THE GRINDING/WHURRING/HUMMING/VIBRATION NOISE Holy sheet. It’s like this noise wants to rock up at 3am, every night, even after you force defrost the fridge. Here I am tonight not being able to sleep. Again, YouTube has found the issue of ice build up in the fan area. I’ve taken a couple of photos to show you what the cause is. I also noticed that the ice build up has literally CRACKED the back of the fridge. Check that out!

Anyway I have purchased so many Samsung products over the years, youd think that I’m an ambassador. This fridge has totally killed my trust for the brand knowing that the repair guys know these fridges are terribly designed but the company can’t replace them for a better product or recall them because Samsung JUST DO NOT CARE. I won’t be buying another Samsung again.

Stay away - do not buy!!!!! – Bought it 2 years ago and was very happy with it. Then a couple of months before the warranty was up the icemaker started having issues. It was dispensing water and half melted ice all the time. After a few weeks phoned Samsung and they arranged for the tech to come and repair it. We live in regional NSW so the only tech available could not come… Read more

for a couple of weeks. Not happy but it was only the ice maker after all. The rest of the fridge was ok at that point. Tech came and replaced the ice maker and all ok for nearly 1 week when it started to do the same thing - water and half melted ice. Called Samsung and the tech came again in a couple of weeks. Replaced the icemaker and a computer mother board. Worked fine for a few days and then the same thing happened again. Then the fridge started making a terrible grinding noise and it stopped working except for the freezer. Water all over our timber floor. Fridge got to 14 degrees before we noticed it. Called Samsung again and said now it was urgent to get it fixed. Moved food to drinks fridge. Said they would organise the tech. The tech arrived a week later and said he was only authorised to do a report and not fix the fridge! In the meantime the fridge seemed to be working again (but not the ice maker) so put food back into it after a couple of days working ok. But next day the fridge stopped and it was at 17 degrees. Only noticed when i took out a leg of lamb and felt it was not very cold. Lucky we are not dead from food poisoning. Called Samsung and said this was not acceptable - they offered a new fridge but we had had enough by then and wanted our money back. They agreed and after filling in forms and giving bank details they said they would organise to pick up the fridge. Heard nothing from Samsung for about a week so called them and emailed them and finally they sent me a text with the couriers contact details (even though I had advised them that we don't have mobile coverage and therefore do not get texts until we get into range). Rang the courier but Samsung gave me an incorrect reference number so unable to help. Emailed Samsung and got another number however also incorrect. The courier contacted Samsung and called me to advise the correct reference number and that Samsung had not yet accepted their quote to collect the fridge!!! Emailed Samsung to advise them to collect our fridge or refund the money to us by last Friday. Heard nothing. So the fridge is sitting in the shed awaiting collection and we have crammed our food into a very small fridge. We need a decent sized fridge as we live 30km away from town plus we are in drought and hand feeding our animals and looking at having to truck water in soon and there is an out of control bush fire 12km away from us with nothing but national parks between it and our little valley. So i think we have enough stress without not having a decent fridge and the lack of service from Samsung to boot. Its now 19 days since we returned the forms to Samsung. We will never ever buy another Samsung product ever again. We warn anyone reading this review to do the same.

Good fridge generally, but has one or two problems – We've had the fridge coming up to 3 years, and really like it still - it was our most expensive fridge purchase ever. I love the digital display on the front, and the ability to set the temperatures of the fridge and freezer. The ice-maker and water dispenser, with LED back-lighting, is wonderful and loved by everyone in the family. The double… Read more

freezer drawer makes it easy to find stuff. And overall the unit looks good.

Our current problems:

Ice-maker now regularly freezes up with ice (every couple of months) and stops working, admittedly we live in a high humid environment, but it seems to have gotten worse in the last year (and then we have spend 30 minutes with a hair dryer to melt out the ice and get it working again).

Ice/water dispenser has stopped working - I think the switch on the mechanism has failed.

The design in how the crisper drawers are made means that when you clean them, you can't completely wash out the voids in the bottom edge and so ends up getting cleaning water, and small particles of residual food and crap caught inside it which you can't easily get out.

Meh – We thought we wanted this type of fridge with plumbed water and ice... well... this one was meh... for its price we thought it was reasonably premium. But lots of impractical things about it . Seconds of cold water... really seconds . Crush doesn't work . Drops ice cubes randomly into the fridge... that melt and cause puddles once a month or… Read more

so.

. Left door where the water outlet is is useless.

. Can't adjust height of shelves in door or inside

. Difficult to clean: reliving shelves is a nightmare

. freezer drawers tend to not circulate cold air well if you stack it like a deep freezer and stuff can thaw..

Good things

. If you turbo cool it really works instantaneously

. It doesn't have an annoying doing if you leave doors open

. Drawers are ok.. wish the big long drawer was a bit taller..

Works well ... until it doesn't – We have had this fridge for 18 months and I loved it. Past tense. Loved. After about 6 months the ice maker started freezing up. Ice stopped being produced. Called Samsung, sent someone out, fixed. Great. Happened again. Called Samsung, sent someone out. fixed. Happened again. Called Samsung, sent someone out, fixed. This happened SEVEN… Read more

TIMES. The service department was great, someone came out quickly and fixed it within a week. But each time, within a week ice maker started freezing up.

Finally, Samsung had a technician evaluate the fridge as having a major fault. Offer a refund. Except the fridge isn't in production and the amount they are offering to refund won't even come close to covering an equivalent replacement fridge.

So if we accept a 'refund' we would only be able to get a fridge that is 20% smaller and with no ice/water dispenser. Plus if you get a refund they will take your fridge, then release the money which will be at least a two week turn around. So no fridge for at least two weeks. And then at our own cost get a new fridge (that is significantly inferior to the one we originally purchased) delivered and plumbed in.

Poor form Samsung. We were happy to accommodate you until you wouldn't replace/refund with an equivalent fridge. We have spent hours of our time on the phone to you, waiting for technicians to fix the same fault again and again and dealing with a faulty product.

EDIT: Legally under consumer law Samsung have to repair or refund the product. Because the refund would not cover us buying an equivalent fridge we elected to continue to refund. The repair company refused to repair (as they had done the SAME REPAIR SEVEN TIMES) so instead of trying to negotiate with us Samsung has contracted a new repairer so likely we will need to go through this whole process again before they look at a reasonable alternative.

Samsung customer service bad news from Manila – I was very happy with my purchase until I struck trouble with the freezer door It does not open easily & I was getting frost forming in the freezer. Early September I contacted Samsung customer service ever since then bearing in mind I live nearly 400 Kilometers from Cairns I have had SMS messages that I cant read till I go to town [yes I am that… Read more

rural no mobile service] Samsung does not understand that I keep requesting they call me at a predetermined time on my landline but that is also to difficult for them & email they don't want to use either & I do wonder why it might be a fear of putting things in writing. All I want to know is can I try to dismantle & fix myself or worst case that I take the freezer door off the fridge & take it to Cairns to have a service center fix it instead of having to transport the whole fridge now if I do this do they still honor the warranty. Samsung it is simple get an Australian to talk to me on the phone. Very unhappy Australian customer.

It’s ok – So we needed a new fridge for our growing family and we had a super wide but relatively short space to fill...of course we couldn’t find one that would fit exactly so we measured the space and yes it’s my own fault..I sent my husband by himself to the shops to buy one while I wrangled the kids at home. This is the one he bought. There’s just not… Read more

enough space in general not even a bit just for eggs. It works fine but it’s average and it’s not sturdy in construction as in quality and the freezer bit is the noisiest bloody thing ever so no more midnight snacks.
