the normal medical certificates and proof of purchase our claim was paid promptly. We didn't actually claim our airfares as were promised by United Airlines these would be refunded, however that has turned into a nightmare and we are still struggling to recover a refund! The lesson here is always make claim on all outgoings and if a refund is received it can then be paid back to the insurance provider and 2- don't trust Trips.com/United Airlines! We will definitely use Southern Cross again for all our travel insurance needs.

abusing our contact details to jam their "products and services" into our inbox. Contrary to what they are taught in marketing school, this does NOT endear us to them, or their 'business partners' (others that pay for these details)

wall that is costing us $25K to replace. While in Phuket we decided things were not adding up for us & we should try to cancel the US trip. Air NZ were EZ & a refund was through in a couple of days. Next I called SCTI & asked could they help us out by returning to the single trip policy that we'd just completed unscathed, cancel & refund us for the much more costly Annual Multi Trip including the USA. That they did & within days the money was back in our bank. Now how good is that? Definitely recommended.

New Zealand, then internal New Zealand flights to join a hiking trip in the Abel Tasman National Park. Cyclone Alfred bearing down on the South East of Queensland and imminent closure of Brisbane Airport was affecting my hiking trip which at such short notice was non-refundable. I opted to change my flights so that I departed from Sydney instead of Brisbane. When I returned after my hiking trip I submitted a claim for the costs of my changed and rebooked flights and my overnight accommodation in Sydney. I submitted my claim on 1st April and was promptly advised that it may take up to ten days for the claim to be reviewed. On 11 April I received an email advising that my claim was successful and I would be re-imbursed by SCTI. Thank you for such prompt and comprehensive service. I would have no hesitation in recommending SCTI to anyone looking for comprehensive travel insurance for a single or multi-trip.
I traveled to the USA and while I there I was very sick and had to go to hospital in the state of New Hampshire. My medical bills were over 3 thousand AUD dollars. claim for one medical cost of around $200. I put the claim in easily online and uploaded the necessary docs, and it was processed within 24 hours! After deducting the $100 excess, they paid the balance out to me. I was really impressed with how quick and easy it was, and I will always use them in the future.

Avoid at all costs – A key reason for choosing SCTI was that their "UNLIMITED" Medical and Evacuation cover. On medical evacuation from a 4800m pass in Nepal, I found that "UNLIMITED" actually means lots of ridiculous hidden limitations to provide SCTI an excuse to reject. nearly every hiker in Nepal. My medical condition was totally unrelated to the altitude. SCTI claims were dishonest at every interaction. On application, I was asked lots of questions, but none on altitude and maximum ascents. It seems SCTI assume one travels to Nepal to sun bake by the beach and not go hiking. SCTI's hidden conditions would exclude the vast majority of travellers to Nepal, it is like selling a cruise ship policy with a hidden condition that one could not be near water. I have another trip coming up but how can I ever trust SCTI again?
Resolution of claim – I purchased a multi-trip policy for around $11000 for my wife and me. We both experienced a flu infection and received excellent treatment from the doctors on the cruise ship.
