They were very clear and concise in terms of costs and always explained what the costs were for and whether they would change or not. We appreciate everything they have done during our time building and we would definitely recommend them.

Building is never easy - expect delays – The work done by the consultant was quick and judicious, which you would expect for wanting to make a sale. But they did help with ideas and suggestions about what is currently popular in the market. progression from drawing plans through to council approval. This was partly due to third party's and their interests (Telstra) and partly Statesman. Selections was organised quickly and done in a good time-frame. The people we spoke to were always happy to answer questions, although not always available to answer questions. The portal is nice, but most important information just gets emailed to you and client services answers quicker if you email than use the portal. I was surprised with the 12-16 months build time, as we had built before during COVID days and it didn't take that long. Hopefully we will be pleasantly surprised. Regarding price: they are one of the less expensive builders out there, which is something i can assume is due to being part of Construction Services Australia group. Can't comment on build quality, as we are waiting for footings. I hear from other people i know, who are building with different builders, and they have complaints too.

Overall: I would say, that if you go into the domain of building a house, doesn't matter who is building it, there will be delays, miscommunication, highs and lows, unexpected increases in PC/changes/council obligations and the unexpected. But with this in your mind, you might not react as strongly, as building your own house has a lot of emotional strings attached. Statesman does a competent job and i would say they have improved in communication as time as gone by. Now it's time to see if their construction passes muster too.

Do not be fooled by the appealing price at first glance – Absolutely soul crushing experience from the moment we signed with this builder. We were encouraged to sign our contract ASAP to avoid a $5,000 price increase that was coming the following month so we did. Just to find that after we get approved for finance on the amount on original contract, and buy our land ready to go that they then, days… Read more

before releasing us to construction, say that we must sign a price variation for an additional $36,000 otherwise they will no longer build our home. They claimed it was the building materials rise over the time period from when we had signed to then (10 months) that caused the price increase however when we asked for a price breakdown they said they couldn’t come up with one and didn’t have to. The 10 months between signing on with them and receiving the ok to start building was also entirely their hold up as we received our land title and finance approval shortly 3 months after signing. They are severely understaffed and it will take you up to a month to hear back about a simple query every time you phone. They also have no regard for customer service, you are simply a number to them and if they have newer signed customers paying more, you’ll fall through the cracks and be forgotten about for months at a time without anything happening. We had to get an extension on our loan because they couldn’t get our footings and slab done in time and we risked having to get finance approval all over again because of that. We are now 15 months since signing and have just had our slab poured to now be told even though on our contract and master plans that our retaining walls are to be completed after handover that they will not be continuing the build process until we finish them. It has been one thing after another with these people, although it may seem great when shopping around with other builders that this company have the security of hickinbotham and a great price, they will end up charging you way more than other builders through price variations and will cost you unimaginable time and stress. Please do not build with them.

What an amazing building consultant – We looked at several builders and the towards the end of that process we came across Statesman Homes and were put through to Roshan Kulatunga in Playford. He quickly got on to preparing a detailed quote and had it ready within the 2 days he said. He sat with us and gave us a lot of time; even though we had gone well beyond closing time. We didn't feel rushed at all. And from his quote it was clear that he had spent a lot of time preparing it and working out an affordable price for us. We felt profit wasn't his motivation; he came across as genuinely working to provide us with a great home that we could afford. Beyond our initial meeting we changed aspects of the concept drawing and Roshen was happy to modify his quote accordingly. He even pointed out which parts of the build would be in our interest to source out to local tradesman. The many awards displayed in Roshen's office shows how others have had similar positive experiences with him. Our impression of Statesman has heightened as a result of the experience we had with Roshen; the quality of their display home in Playford and their pricing. Out of 11 builders that I contacted theirs was the most affordable for us.

Our selections process was excellent. Our consultant Emina was an outstanding support throughout the selection process. She was very open and honest about the upgrades and had a great understanding of the current trends and popular colour schemes which made the entire process feel thoughtful and tailored. Avoid! Do not put yourself through the stress and disappointment – So many things I could say about building with this company...il just say a few. knowing what stage of the build your home even is! Too hard for them to answer a phone call or respond to an email in a timely manner. Very little project managing skills!!!

Sales consultant was great at first but glossed over alot of my deeper questions or requests for further detail with "that will be dealt with during your design consult". I was still fairly confident at this point because I had done alot of ground work on inclusions, our budget etc. Least i thought.

Selections appointment was a disaster. Consultant couldnt answer basic questions. It came to light they instructed us the wrong process but the builder refused to admit this, still to this day! Eventually the appointment ended with the consultants supervisor interrupting mid conversation to advise her shift ends and she need to finish up with us (there was still 30mins to go and we werent even close to finished). The staff member was embarrassed!!!  In the rush some mistakes made which caused lot of back and forth.  (Unresolved matters still pending an outcome as a result of selections staff being inexperienced and/or giving us wrong information.)

I regret not cancelling at this point of the journey. Yet we persist.

Then we waited and waited... and waited for progress. Of course all hold ups "due to covid" apparently.

Site supervisor made contact to book the pre hand over inspection and was been great with communication during this period. He was professional and helpful.

My friend built at the same time with a different big name builder. The difference between the quality is astonishing. Overall workmanship of my home is poor. Chipped timber,  Paint work ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE with patches, blobs, filler chunks etc. 1month in and paint already peeling/cracked in areas. Feel it needs a complete repaint or extra coat painted with actual care taken. So peeved about our crap paint work. Our glass sliding doors have scratches all over them clearly from the building cleaner or installer. Disappointing!!

Pre hand over inspection the site supervisor fixed gapping/buckled skirting where paint cracked but still alot of poor areas left on walls.

Flooring contractor on inspection to review fixes told me regarding gaps and pulls in the carpet "nah thats fine thats normal just snip the pulls" ....well the pulls keep unravelling, that cant be a quality install for new carpet! 2 months in the carpet is basically [Content Removed] quality. Flooring contractor also denied peaked or short cut timber laminate was from their install. Who could it be, I didn't get out a saw and cut my boards short of the beading! Tradies denying poor work or hesitant to fix - I have raised this issue with the builder so I hope this feedback escalated to their flooring contractor. Doubt they care.

Luckily i was at the home when the air con tradies installed because they were going to put items in the wrong spot!!! Gas Hot water system installer left the outside box completely uneven and crooked on the wall. Looks [Content Removed], no care taken. I looked back on our camera watching him install. He didnt use a spirit level or any measuring tape, just by sight. Explains why its crooked!!!  He wasnt wearing safety boots and basically didnt give an effs leaving rubbish and crap in our backyard.

The excitement and achievement of building a new first home was lost during this journey. I wouldnt use or recommend Statesman (Construction Services Australia) to anyone. I feel these builders know they wont see repeat customers again and that doesnt phase them. They prey on first home builders or young people trying to get into the market that dont know what to expect and constantly trying to pull the wool over our eyes.

It comes back to the small things...the hand towel rail and towel rail - lack of really tipped me over the edge and lead to this honest review of our experience. Do not waste your money with this builder. Spend a little bit more to save on stress and time

disreputable company Statesman is. There are building portholes building consultants can use to give accurate information, [Name Removed] at Statesman never used these tools. Do not trust them….don’t fall for the “price is going up next week” or “that promo ends at the end of the week” etc, it’s all lies to get you to sign. Sales people get a bonus on signed contracts whether they go ahead or not. Don’t trust this company!

Hickinbotham built my investment property in Riverlea Park and I’m really happy with the overall experience. The build was completed quickly and efficiently, with everything delivered as promised. clarification on display so make sure you ask questions and visit the studio a few times to make your appointment run quicker and smoothly. Selections available include a large range across all areas of the build both internal and external. Staff are really helpful when it comes suggestions on what looks good together.
