as noisy as the first. I don't believe the SPL information is accurate. The units make much more noise than the levels nominated in the manual. The second (replacement) unit has now had the Temperature & Pressure Relief Valve fail. Stiebel Eltron have informed me without inspecting the property that the valve failed because the mains pressure was too high . They suggested 850 KPA as the level that probably made the valve fail. In any event the T & P relief valve has a 12 month warranty so they can't do anything about changing it. What should I think about that?
A business is only as good as it's reputation. I would like to give them less than one star but it wouldn't make me feel any different.
I purchased a Stiebel Eltron 302L in September 2022 for $3500 and after 2.5yrs (July 2025) it's now malfunctioned and is out of warranty. Don't be fooled by the 5 year warranty, as that covers very little, the main components including compressor is only 2 years for domestic home use. My last water heater lasted me over 10 years. recommend this product based on high cost to purchase with such a short warranty period and high cost to fix. Replacing the compressor will cost a significant part of the purchase price so I'm not sure whether to thow more money at this, or cut my losses and look for a better brand.

Units good, little noisy but resolved – We had our heat pump installed as part of Synergy Symphony project two weeks ago in WA, and the fan is extremely noisy and we have a consistent knock sound every 4seconds that last for hours after someone uses the hot water and clearly audible inside the house. It's so quiet – We replaced our old heat pump with a Stiebel Eltron Heat Pump and so far could not be happier. It's punching out the hot water just like it is meant to but it's doing it quietly. I can't hear it working at all which is a massive step up from the old unit. Reliability and efficiency will be reviewed as it settle in over the next few months. Installed in 2019 and the compressor is dead in 2025. My old Rheem systems cost far less and lasted over a decade. The cost to replace the compressor is more than half the price to replace the hot water unit with a locally made one. The unit was only used by 2 people for most of the last 4 years. to note that 24/7 emergency plumbers in Melbourne will decline to service this model, so expect to be without hot water for a couple of days if issues arise. The technician was familiar with the problem and mentioned it was a common issue due to a design flaw. Now, two years after the initial repair, we're facing the same problem again. With the warranty nearing its end, we anticipate recurring issues. For a product priced over $3,000 and marketed with claims of German precision, the reliability of this unit is disappointing. I will not be purchasing from Stiebel Eltron again.

Poor quality. Not fit for purpose – Unit is three years old. Consistently shuts off due to error code 8. Have paid multiple plumbers and a SE tech to fix it but they can’t find an issue. SE state “that problem is hard to fix”. Great. Now I’m replacing it as it keeps failing. All the plumbers I have spoken say they are constantly pulling out SE machines and replacing them. Noisy but Reasonable Value for Money – We purchased this unit in October 2021 and it has been noisy from day one and it took a very long time to heat up from cold. Now after 18 months it is even louder and has required two hard resets (power off/on) in the last month to get the heat pump running again. Luckily, the element means that you still have hot water if a fault occurs with the heat pump.
Update Nov 2023: Stiebel replaced the control board under warranty and it is now working normally. The service department were easy to deal with and were prompt. All in all, we are happy with the unit when everything is weighed up. I would definitely not be locating this HWS anywhere you want to be quiet, like near the outside of a bedroom, it's pretty noisy especially when it first turns on.
Parts broken and will break in a few years – It broke in less than 3 years. The plumber replaced the parts and said they will break again in a couple of years. Nothing we could do. He also said it seems to be a common issue and he has been repairing them a lot lately. They might seem to be a good choice back in 2020 but don’t buy them. ‘They are just rubbish’ according to our plumber. Just rubbish – The unit is constantly in fault mode and I need to check it everyday to make sure it doesn’t need an error code reset or a power off/on cycle. This is the third unit we’ve had replaced under warranty. Now we’ve been left in the cold by the company who have backed away from their pathetic and junk hot water system. Not worth the money – My unit was installed in 2017 and quit a few days ago. Just weeks out of warranty. It was on solar power and restricted to 6 hours during the day. night here last night then the heat pump stopped working. Fault 32 - which is that the tank is not filled with water. Got our plumber out who spent 2 hours trying to fix it with stiebel Elton tech support on the phone. of course this happens on a Friday. our fault seems to be an issue with the non-sacrificial anode. so it falsely tells the system that there is not enough water in the unit. because of that we CANNOT ACCESS ANY EMERGENCY HEATING MODES! Theories abound but they are now stating it is because our water may not have enough conductivity and this is causing the unit not to function. so now they want to test our water (rain water - rural property). The weird thing is that there was no issues with this at all in the last few months. I have no doubt that somehow they are going to try to spin this as a 'not our unit's fault - the problem is with your water'. if this is the case - then how the hell were we supposed to know about this anode issue only unique to their heat pump water heater. Apparently other units have sacrificial anodes and don't have this problem.
Theres a reason Plumbers are switching away from Stiebel Eltron – Had nothing but issues, the unit should be recalled after plumbers are changing the anode on top for almost every unit, now my compressor has stopped aswell. My local plumber along with others has stopped installing stiebels, and switching to cheaper more reliable brands. If you like spending 4k every 3 years on new hot water units, choose stiebel. The team quickly stops being friendly once your warranty runs up aswell as a bonus. Show details
Seems like a good heat pump – The heat pump works quietly and efficiently. JR Gas & Water installed it. Very happy so far. I will get a timer installed to make sure I don't exceed the allowed 16 hour time to switch off the unit (efficiently using solar electricity). Currently it's manual. Show details

Rust Coloured Water! – We had the WWK 302 H model installed 12 months ago to replace a similar system from the same manufacturer which worked quite well . . . till it finally spat the dummy and refused to work. Also rust coloured water has been leaking from joint where the pressure relief valve enters the side of the unit since day one and has caused a rust coloured stain down the side of the unit. We contacted the plumber who installed it as soon as we noticed the problem (in the first week after the installation) and he said he would contact Stiebel and they would contact us. This did NOT happen and Stiebel have not contacted us. We rang the plumber monthly and he would always have the same answer . . . Stiebel will be contacting us shortly. 12 months have passed and Stiebel have finally contacted us . . . why does it take 12 months to get a response from Stiebel . . . they are now 'supposed' to be coming on Tuesday but I will only believe it when I see the plumber standing by the unit with spanner in hand :-(
Great product – Installed 2018 as part of a new build, No issues so far and has been a very good unit. Unit is on the external wall of our main family room and it cannot be heard from inside. It sits outside close to a BBQ area and can hardly be heard - whisper quite and very efficient. We have never run out of hot water despite some long showers and the occasional bath.
