Assuming you've asked your supplier. Is it still under warranty? After no knowledgeable help from my supplier I called Stiga head office in my state and spoke to head mechanic. Very helpful!

What is the difference between the 5108 and 5108W models?

Jan
Jan

C. three years ago when I bought my 5108w, the 5108 had a single cylinder 462cc engine whereas the 5108w had a twin cylinder of c. 560cc.. This was in the Australia. It needs noting that model designations and specifications might change by marketplace and with time. Also, when I bought mine, the principal reason i paid extra for the 5108w was the twin cylinder engine had full pressure oil lubrication with filter as opposed to splash lubrication on the single cylinder. Additional features on the 5108w included extra strengthening bars on the mowing deck, extra anti scalp wheel and larger wheels. I seem to remember I paid around $4500 for the 5108w as opposed to $3000 for the entry model. In any event, my 5108w apart from a few deck belt replacements over the years has performed flawlessly. It mows an acre in Queensland, often times twice a week.

I have a stiga tornado 2098H. It wont start. Battery very good (tested) just clicks when I turn the key. I gently rocked back and forward it and it started, worked a few times now wont start. It does make a clicking sound when you turn the key.

Same happened to mine. At my insistence Company replaced the Solonoid, at their expense, and so far it works fine.

Several seem to have this problem. I have answered previously. Usual answer is the selenoid is burnt and will no longerb pass the required starting current. This can be checked by tracing the cable back from the starter. It will be bolted to a round device approx 35x50mm. This is the selenoid. Immediately alongside the starter connection will a cable connection from the battery. Usually it will be a simple matter to pull bask the connection covers where the cables bolt to the selenoid. If shorting these terminals together with a screwdriver spins your strter motor, the the selenoid is crook and needs replacement.

The drive has been lost, the drive belt appears ok but loose, with engine running and using the fwd / rev rocking foot lever it does not move in any direction, is this a common problem ? and what could be the fix please.

Jan

Have you checked the drive engage/disengage lever above the towbar? Can the mower be pushed? If so this would indicate the drive lever is in freewheel.

The ignition switch on my Tornado 2098 produces a loud clicking noise and does not start the mower, the starter works when disconnected from the mower using a 12 volt pack, all confections clean and tight, the battery at 100%. Initially the clicking appeared to be the switch however the switch noise seem to be a switch cluster below the binnacle adjacent to the steering wheel. Can anyone help? Thank you. John Farrell

Hi, I’m thinking of buying the Stiga tornado 598 ride on mower,Since it’s my 1st time owning a ride on can any one plse tell me if these are good ride on mowers and what problems has any one found with them,Would love to hear from some one ,Thanks

I have the twin cylinder version of this mower. I find it to be excellent. Common features to your model include the push button engagement of their mowing deck drive. This puts the Stiga above the competition as the belt maintains constant tension. Most mowers at this level have a lever engagement system that allows the belt to slip when in neutral. Engagement is heavy as is belt wear. I have never thrown a belt despite hard use. I replaced the mower belt at 100 hours when I noticed some fraying. That's maintenance.

I need to replace the belt on my Tornado 4108 42" twin cylinder which snapped after 1 and a half hours and can't find any manuals or instructional videos online, do you have any suggestions?

We have a Stiga Tornado 7118 HSW and the drive belts come off. Anyone got a diagram for this model? It has 7 pulleys and we can’t know the direction of the belt. Thanks anyone

Does anyone have experience with the Tornado SU598 ride on mower? I'm thinking of buying one to replace my old husqvarna that keeps shredding belts.

Jan

I have the two cylinder version of this ride on - It is an excellent piece of equipment. In 100hrs it has only needed a single cutting deck belt replacement. This was not done as a result of belt slippage or breakage but simply as preventative maintenance. I did notice slight fraying of the belt. Unlike most competitors it has an electromagnet clutch to engage the cutting deck, far lighter to operate than the heavy lever of others and the belt tension is maintained at all times. I feel this maintenance of belt tension is the reason my machine has never slipped a belt despite hard use. Starts first go every time. I enjoy using the machine. I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

In my case the machine failed during the first hour of use and after the replacement of two electronic components and then many weeks of waiting for other replacement parts I had a full refund and purchased a more proven machine. Sorry but that was what happened for me.

How do you tighten a stiga drive belt

Jan
Jan

In my case a 2 cylinder Stiga purchased a year ago - there is no need to. The cutting deck belt has an idler pulley that keeps constant tension. I replaced the cutting deck belt at c. 100 hrs as I noticed some slight fraying. Simple 10 minute job, undo tensioner, replace belt re-install tensioner. As I was not near the dealer I bought a generic belt from the local BSC. I then bought 2 "brand" belts online to keep as backups. Continental $20 each. BTW I did start out washing the deck after use but was advised that cold water and hot bearings do not mix. The cold water is sucked into the hot bearing then sits creating rust and destroys the bearings. Stopped washing the deck and at 1 year and a hundred hours the bearings are still silent. Too, the drive belt shows no signs of wear, has never slipped or come off. Looks to have the same idler pulley as the deck belt. I cannot talk of other models - earlier? - but in my case the purchase and use of my Stiga has been a happy experience. Other heavy (very heavy?) users seem to share my enthusiasm.

Jan
Jan

You seem from previous posts to have a 2 speed mower of which I have no experience. As to my model a 2021 4108 twin cylinder Stiga there is no need to tension the mower deck belt as it has a spring loaded tensioner that automatically adjusts tension. With regard the drive belt that provides motion I cannot comment as I have never needed to replace in 100hrs, nor has this belt ever slipped or displayed any belt wear. The tension appears to have been maintained so I presume it too has an automatic tensioner.

My stiga 2098 runs in 1st but as soon as you put it in 2nd gear she loses traction and comes to a halt! Any help greatly received

Why does my 2022 Stiga 4108HW keep throwing the cutter belt the mower has only done 3hours.

Probably because it is not fit for purpose, I returned the machine and got a refund. The best of luck with yours.

Schneids

You could try fitting a smaller belt, but while it will help fix one problem it will wear out the bearing. My advice is to get rid of it ASAP.

The mower operates well but when the blades are engaged it doesn't cut, what have I done wrong

Diver

Get in touch with the agent who sold it to you! this would be my first move rather than ask around for what might be guesswork and incorrect answers.

Schneids

At a guess I'd say the belt's come off. They're prone to that. The motor will run but there's no drive to the blades. Mine used to do it all the time. You may need to fit a smaller belt.

This is the worst mower I have ever used and Ive been using them for 40 year,s the only new purchase I've had. The drive pulley on the mower keeps seizing , It has been replaced several times, it's a design fault, does anyone have a solution? I would really like to get rid of it but don't want to pass a problem on to other people. The battery also was too small, so I replaced that with a car battery, which has helped a lot. Otherwise it's a really easy machine to use, but is it going to cut the grass today, is the question every time that I need to use it. For the first 3-4 years it worked well, but since then every 3-4 months it packs up. Thumbs down from me.

Hi. I seem to have the same problem with the belts as a lot of other people! Is there a YouTube video or similar to show how to refit a drive belt that has slipped off? Many thanks, Simon

What size belt is used for the deck/cutting on these machines? I work/volunteer at an orphanage in Nairobi, Kenya; there are no dealers, agents for these machines here. They have a special project funded by a Dutch friend who bought the orphanage one of these machines and I am trying to get parts. Thanks
