requirements and approved installation methods.

My experience dealing with Summit Homes was extremely disappointing. Products were installed incorrectly and not in accordance with the manufacturer’s published installation guidelines. There were also workmanship and finishing issues involving the framing, windows and brickwork. Concerns were raised, phone calls went unanswered, and I ultimately had to arrange independent reports before significant framing issues were properly addressed.

One of the most concerning issues related to a product that had not been installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s requirements. I contacted the supplier/manufacturer directly, who confirmed that the installation did not comply with their installation guidelines and that, as a result, the manufacturer’s warranty would not apply. This was a product that would otherwise have carried a warranty of up to 20 years.

After confirming this, I emailed Summit Homes specifically asking them to provide their own warranty for the product given that the manufacturer’s warranty had been compromised by the installation. They would not provide that warranty.

When I raised that the installation was contrary to the manufacturer’s requirements, the response I received was words to the effect of, “We have been doing it this way for years.” In my view, that is an unacceptable response. Doing something incorrectly for years does not suddenly make it correct. If a manufacturer provides clear installation requirements for its product, those requirements should be followed, particularly where failing to do so results in the homeowner losing a long-term manufacturer’s warranty.

This was not simply a difference of opinion about workmanship or installation methods. I checked the requirements directly with the supplier/manufacturer and confirmed the warranty implications.

Based on our experience, I would not recommend Summit Homes. Once the contract was signed, I felt the level of service and willingness to resolve legitimate issues dropped significantly.

I strongly recommend that anyone considering building with them thoroughly researches the company, obtains independent advice and has the building contract properly reviewed before signing.

Homeowners should not have to commission their own independent reports and continually push for defects and incorrect installations to be investigated and rectified. There needs to be greater accountability in the building industry when manufacturer installation requirements are not followed and homeowners are left without the product warranties they reasonably expected to receive.

Communication has been shocking, house sits for weeks and weeks with nothing happening and they always have an excuse. This is my 4 th build and summit have been the worst ! Do your self a favour and build with someone else. Show details

would have struggled to get this far through the planning process, as there is A LOT to think about. Tania and I went spent a few days visiting the suppliers and showrooms to do my selections and her insight was invaluable! So good to be able to choose your stone benchtops based off a giant slab, rather than a teeny tiny little sample. She also reviewed our plans with a fine-toothed comb to make sure everything was captured and pratical. With regard to the design, Robert has been amazing. He gave so much great advice and re-worked the design to suit our block and our lifestyle to a tee! Can't wait to see the finished result!

I have a beautifully finished home that was kept in budget and on time.
