Sunbeam Mixmaster - Rubbish – I bought a Sunbeam Mixmaster thinking it was going to perform as perfectly as the Sunbeam Mixmasters I've owned since 1974. How wrong could I be. Ever since I bought it it was noisy and sounded as though it was labouring to work. Then it started to not come on intermittently. Now it won't even turn on. I am so dissapointed in the Sunbeam brand now, I doubt I'll buy it again. Even my Sunbeam toaster died just after the warranty was up. Show details
MX8500 Classic Mixer - waste of money – Purchased this mixer because our family has purchased Sunbeam products for decades and the quality was terrific. This mixer is awful, the unit is noisy, bowls are difficult to lock into place, the button to raise and lower the beaters sticks, beaters are difficult to insert and remove after use. To top it all off a tiny black plastic collar has… Read more
broken off and the beater is unusable. Total rubbish. I still have a Sunbeam Burst of Power hand mixer given to me in 1981 and it works perfectly! Pity the MX8500 isn’t the same quality.

Sunbeam MX8500 is cheap & nasty! – Had a twin beater Sunbeam Mixer for over 30 years and loved it! Motor still runs good as ever but nylon buttons had worn on beaters so didn't turn bowl anymore. Bought a new silver MX8500 Sunbeam Mixer 2 years ago and have been disappointed from new! Seems to be cheap junk! Motor has ran hot since new and noisier than my old 30+ year old one! Has… Read more
only had infrequent light use so is almost new still but it has started smoking from the Motor!!! So so unhappy! Complete waste of money. Am going to try and find replacement beaters for our old mixer as I'm not game to buy another Sunbeam Mixer after this!!!

Fabulous mixer – The motor is amazing, it has made my cake-making so much quicker, and easier. Yes, we have had the problem with the beaters but it was easily overcome by smoothing down the plastic collar on the beater attachment. Show details · 1
So stylish – Can’t understand the negative reviews, pay more if you want better, I paid $189 so it’s on the lower priced available. It’s had a good work out and works fine. It also is so stylish I’d be happy just to buy it as a feature piece for the kitchen. Show details
Great mixmaster – I love my machine, I was looking for a mixmaster that would work well and not cost the earth, within 6 months it had paid for itself, I love it. I bought the Florence Broadhurst version from David Jones, which added a nice style aspect to the mixer too. Would definitely recommend to any novice chefs out there. Show reply

Sunbeam used to be a reliable brand – Had a very old Sunbeam Mixmaster which was great. It stopped working so we replaced it with another Sunbeam. I have had it a few years but rarely use it as the beaters are hard to put in and the bowl either turns very slowly or not at all, so I have to push the bowl around to operate it.

No replacement beaters – I am so disappointed that I cannot buy the beaters anymore. I have broken one beater I haven’t had the mixer that long wont buy a sunbeam again. Why can’t we get replacement for beaters now I have to throw the whole thing out Show details

Uses rubbish plastic gears that crap out with normal use – The engineer that designed or selected the materials for the gears in this mixer should go back to university and relearn materials or maths or at least learn how to calculate the forces on worm gears. Id hate to think how much wasted materials sunbeam is responsible for due to these mixers going into landfill. If manufactures were responsible for… Read more
the waste they produce they wouldn't design shit like this. The rest of the parts look ok; its a shame that one small crappy part renders the rest of the what appears to be a well made product useless.
Sunbeam used to be a reliable brand – I purchased this mixer based on previous great service from a Sunbeam Mixmaster I had many years ago. I have used it, very successfully about 4 times. Today I was making a cake and stopped it to scrape the sides and when I turned it on again....nothing! I tried everything, removing then reinserting beaters, remove and replace the bowl, even tried… Read more
the second bowl and it simply would not work. I will be returning it to the store tomorrow for a refund. Very dissapointing when such a well known, previously reliable brand is now producing inferior products. The inconvienience of having to return an item then shop for a replacement is enough to prevent me trusting that brand again.
I dont recomend this product.

Didn’t last long – Bought for my wife 2 years ago mx8500 now motor runs but beaters don’t work. I am like so many others. Thought Sunbeam was STILL a good product so I would buy another one. Should have looked at the product reviews. Talk about cheap and nasty. How disappointing. As other people have said. Just a heap of junk. Shame on you Sunbeam you have trashed your good name with rubbish to make a few extra dollars. Dumb Dumb Dumb Show details

worst sunbeam mixmaster ever – After owning a Sunbeam for over 30 years we decided it was time to upgrade, We purchased the silver model almost 2 years ago. We only used the mixer occassionally, to cream butter & sugar or whip cream, maybe 2 times a month. A few weeks ago I contacted Sunbeam as the mixer could only be used on low speed, if we turned it up the beaters would jam.… Read more
I was advised to take it to our local sunbeam repair agent which i did. I collected the machine today to be told it was no good any more as the gear box had seized !!! I am so angry that after minimal use over a 2 year period it now has to be thrown out. NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Last time I will ever buy Sunbeam

Bowl doesn't spin – Highly disappointed with this mixer. My husband purchased it for me for Christmas 2017 from Myer, I went to use it today (2/1/18) for the first time to discover the bowl did not spin with the large or small bowl attached. We will be returning this appliance and will purchase another brand. Show details
Sunbeam florence broadhurst design is a disgrace – Florence broadhurst mixer really poor hardly mixes. The bowl doesn't lock into place properly very bad machine waste if money. The toaster is fine but the mixer complete let down. Pity because sunbeam was a trusted brand for me, I'll never buy sunbeam again. The mixer has made me not bother using it and I cool alot. I wouldn't waste time,… Read more

I could've got a better machine from target it chosen the Kenwood.
Attaching and rotating bowl is a nightmare – I recieved this as a gift. I had the issue of bowl not attaching or detaching properly. At about 1 month old the base fell apart it was replaced whole new machine but i still have the same problem. Its useless! I also have issues putting beaters in and quite often the beaters bump together to the point where i have small metal peices from beaters… Read more
in my mix. Would not reccomment at all, should really return it. Dont want to offend my mother in law with sending it back as i wouldnt replace with the same mixer again.
Problem detaching bowl – I brought this mix master, and after one use I could not detach the bowl from the base. One day I decided to unscrew the bottom and found that a small spring was not affixed where it should have been, after reattaching the spring I could finally remove the bowl. It works just fine now. Terrible product with possible intention by company to fail for replacement? – The product has a terrible life span and when trying to see where things have gone wrong internally discovered that it was intentionally built so that maintenance and part replacement is nearly impossible! Ours is stuck on high speed and I believe it is something to do with gears yet not being able to effectively access the whole internal area… Read more
Sunbeam is forcing customers to replace?
Only other option is paying $100 for someone to tell me they can't fix it either.
Very put off Sunbeam products after this experience.
Better than a hand mixer – This was given to me second hand and I'm not much of a baker so haven't used it a whole lot, and probably haven't given it a hard enough time like others here ... but it works fine for the pavs I make on occasion and has certainly lasted longer than a year. I think it's fine for what it does. Nothing fancy and better than a hand mixer for… Read more

Don't waste your money! – We received a Mixmaster as part of our Engagement Party Gift Registry. We had requested the mixmaster due to their stellar reputation. Less than 6 months later, only using it 3 times, the bowl seized on the mixer, we couldn't get it on or off or move it at all, so we took it back to Myer and received a replacement, which was great! another 6 months later, again with minimal domestic use, the motor has just blown up... that's 2 units in 12 months... I just want my money back so that I am able to buy a mixer that doesn't have a catastrophic failure every 6 months!
Very disappointing, I won't be buying another Sunbeam product again, as there appears to be major faults with their design, durability and quality assurance!

Sunbeam failed after 2 years light use – When my Sunbeam mixmaster of 35 years finally died 2 years ago, I thought a new Sunbeam would be just the thing. Wrong. Purchased 4/2014, the rheostat speed is either off or flat out. Very disappointed after all these years and reviews seem to back this up for the brand.
Motor blew in first few months of use – I was so excited to receive this mixer as an engagement gift - all of my family have had older models of Mixmasters and swear by them. Unfortunately the motor of my mixer has just blown up - the machine has been used occasionally for three months and I was only making meringue when it broke. I was careful not to overwork the machine as it tends… Read more
to get hot very quickly, however it just doesn't seem to be powerful enough to handle basic recipes.
I was also disappointed to discover that the bowls of this mixer don't spin, it needs constant scraping and is very noisy to operate.
I don't imagine I'll be able to get a replacement as the device was a gift and I don't have proof of purchase.

What a shame! – I also bought this for sentimental reasons. What a complete waste of metal, energy and money. The base doesn't turn, so I was hand turning the bowl and the beaters get caught on each other. The service centre offered no help. Take it off the market, it's useless piece of equipment. It is such a shame, I regret buying it.

Useless Piece of Junk – I wish that I had read the reviews before I bought this utterly useless machine. The beaters don't even hit the bottom of the bowl, I have to physically turn the bowl to get it to turn around. This is the most useless thing I have ever bought. They should take it off the market immediately.

Utterly Utterly Useless – I bought this for sentimental reasons remembering the old mixmasters form the 60s. This reproduction is rubbish. The bowl keeps sticking to the base and won't come off. Had to dismantle the base and hold the serrated plastic ratchet to get it off but it just keeps sticking. It's a design fault. Bowl doesn't turn effectively, beaters get hot and it… Read more
doesn't mix well. It's a useless piece of junk and I would take it back if I could, unfortunately I am now in the UK.
This model is a Dud – Everything every other reviewer has stated is true. Bowls stop spinning, mixers are hard to insert, food comes out of the bowls and the bowls get stuck to the base. If you are in the middle of mixing it means you physically have to pick the whole machine up (& it is not light) and turn it upside down to get your food from the bowl. This is my… Read more
second machine after Sunbeam replaced the first one when the bowl got stuck and no amount of effort could unlock it. When I contacted Sunbeam they didn't even question it when I mentioned the stuck bowl. They just advised me to return it to the store for a new one. Now my second one has the same problem and is now out of warranty. There is obviously a design flaw with the model & I would not recommend anyone to buy it.
Devastated! – I am so disappointed in this machine, I could cry! I bought it for myself for Christmas and it doesn't work how it should :( The bowl turns ONLY when you keep touching it to move. It doesn't scrape the sides which means I am constantly sticking a spoon in the bowl. The attachments are impossible to get into the machine. It has just really upset me! :(
Can't get parts to fix it & it's only 4 yrs old! – Had my sunbeam food processor for 20 years so bought the mixmaster. What a disappointment after only 4 yrs the turning circle gears broke and the poor service agent couldn't get the spare parts to fix it. He did his best, but now it's noisier and won't last. Will not be buying sunbeam again!
Terrible! Don't waste your money! – I had an old Sunbeam for 20 years which I loved. I foolishly assumed they could only have improved them so bought the MX8500 thinking it would be fabulous but how wrong I was! It doesn't beat or cream properly & needs me to stand & manually move the bowl. The beaters take an age to get in - they are really fiddly & need to be in EXACTLY the right… Read more
spot or they won't go in. The bowls get stuck in the base. I took one back 2 months ago & got it replaced with the same model and now this one has done the same thing - bowl is stuck! Called customer service & they said to take it back & that the 9700 model is better BUT I didn't WANT a planetary mixer!! I cook a LOT & I like the bowl to rotate as opposed to the beater so not sure what I am going to replace it with now!! Not happy! Bring back the old model & the glass bowls!!
Horrible to use – Have had Sunbeam mixers for 50 years and this would be the worst model ever. Can' t make sponges anymore because the eggs won't beat up in the stupid stainless bowl Give me back the glass bowls. The bowl kept jamming in the slot base til I just couldnt get it out, so have returned it to shop. Unfortunately there are none with glass bowls anymore,… Read more
so no doubt the makers are not cooks! Agree with the comment about butter and sugar not mixing properly just the worst thing ever for people who love their cooking.
What a waste of money this piece of junk is… – Sadly I am reading the reviews after I have spent the money on what I have saved so hard for… The sunbeam classic is useless. Trying to cream butter and sugar is a joke as everything flies over my kitchen bench. then the butter and cream sticks to the sides and I am sure I would have creamed enough butter and sugar for 10 cakes y the time this… Read more
remotely looks like it should but still can feel the sugar but give up…I am gutted as I thought Sunbeam was a respectable product but my views have changed and now will have to save again to buy another brand… I hope other people read this before they make the same mistake.
Piece of junk – This item has never really worked to capacity from the get go. After only having used it at the very most 8 times it completely conked out. The attitude from sunbeam is too bad! It is out of warranty. A piece of rubbish! I will never use sunbeam products again. The colour Motor burned out after 8 uses, and the only time it was used is to make Meringue!
Fiddly but effective, when it works. SHORT design life – Fiddly to use - attaching bowls, beaters isn't smooth/ Lasts a year at most: light to medium family use & each year the Worm/gear assembly fails. Design flaw in Steel/Brass combination/ Brass shavings on the counter top & no rotation from the unit - same problem 4 years running. Heats up on meringue. looked good. claimed to be "commercial design" persistent worm/gear failure due to steel/brass construction.
Disappointing – Just pulled it out of the box to start Christmas baking. First problem is that there is no manual in the box ...no biggy. So the bowls don't spin when ingredients are in the bowl ...what the....!!!!! Had to nurse the machine to get it to mix . Change speeds and you can hear the motor struggle and drag. A very poor effort from sunbeam I expected better. Aesthetics Doesn't do what it is intended to.
Disappointing – Like so many other people that have commented I grew up with the old Classic with its glass bowls and when I moved out of home inherited my grandmothers old one. It worked perfectly for another 15 years then just died of old age! I was so pleased when I saw that Sunbeam had released the same style again and just recently purchased the Sunbeam… Read more
MX8500 Mixmaster Classic in stainless steel. I couldn't wait to use it but, as commented by a few others, the bowls just won't spin so you have to stand by the machine manually turning the bowls the whole time. I did ring technical suport and was told that they are not meant to turn with the whisks even though the manual states that it does, and with the beaters it won't turn with some mixtures. He was extremely unhelpful. I would like to return it to Myers where I purchased it but was so confident that I would be happy I have thrown away the box! The look and sturdiness of the stainless steel appliance Bowls won't turn
the warranty is on the product not the box i would challenge Myers The product must work to… Read more
