We have a supreme territory semi off road 1996. It is built very strong but it has faults.both the hatches in the on suite have broken down including the fans. We contacted supreme as the van has been kept under cover unless we were using it. They want $185 each plus postage.my problem is will the same thing happen in another five years or is it possible to buy a stronger version. Any advice would be welcome

Worst purchase ever for us. Their service was absolutely horrible. We had a brand new one and the cupboards would not open, you could not use the storage at the front of the caravan without taking off the stone shield every time. We complained, nothing happened. Our reversing camera was mounted upside down, which made it impossible to use. We complained, nothing happened. It started leaking after a year and although we kept getting it repaired (at a caravan repairer) it keep leaking. We complained, nothing happened. The so-called-off-road chassis apparently cant be used on gravel roads (not sure what use it is then). I would run away from the brand as fast as you can. We sold ours and got a Mobi Nomad, which is brilliant.

I am new to the group and today signed up for a 17 ft. 6 in Territory. I note there are a lot of negative reviews but I also note they are mostly from several years ago. Any "new" owners of the Territory with thoughts on the van? Would very much appreciate them. I know that many poor reviews involve some quite minor issues, but some are worrying.

We just got our 18ft a month ago, absolutely first class, not a mark on it, and everything works a treat! And best news is no leaking we’ve been in some torrential downpours and so far has passed every test! Hope this helps a bit? You’ve probably got yours by now.

will 2016 ford ranger wildtrack tow 2007 suprme territory 23 ft okay

Nick
Nick

Call Supreme and get the exact weight. Then check the maximum tow capacity of your vehicle and the maximum tow capacity of your tow ball / rig. If weight of caravan is less than the tow capacity of both the vehicle and the tow ball, you are OK. Otherwise, either you need a new car or a new tow rig. :)

Maybe legally but I would not tow a caravan of that size with it

Please , what is the weight?

Nick
Nick

Not sure to be honest. I know you had to have a 3 ton towing capacity on the car though. I would not in general recommend getting anything from Supreme though as their after sales support is horrible. So many problems we had with their work and they never bothered to fix any of it. I will never buy any th hing from them ever again.

A lot of these poor reviews are several years old. Have things improved or not? These reviews are giving me serious misgivings over my intended purchase.

Nick
Nick

Hi Hilly. I have the Supreme Territory sitting right outside my Window and have been using it for a while now. So here is my considered opinion. Cons: 1) Do not be deceived by its "off-road" title, "off-road" only means you can take it down dirt roads that have no corrugations. I was told off by the dealer for taking it "off-road".

2) After sales support very bad. The caravan as delivered has a cupboard door in the bathroom that cannot open as it hits the window frame and the left hand outside front storage area (as you face the front of the caravan), the one that has a slide inside for your genset / BBQ / whatever, does not open at all as it immediately hits the stone guard which you then have to remove every time you open it to actually use it which is bloody annoying as it is large. heavy and getting the pins off and on every time is skin removing on your knuckles. Also, the reversing camera was wired upside-down. None of these issues have ever been fixed even though I have sent multiple letters, emails, phone calls etc. Warranty runs out in two months, so I had better try again I suppose. Anyway...

3) Quality of the internal finish is low. The trim on the cupboard door edges is horrible (I was told by the sales guy that it tends to come off for this caravan and to bring some glue with me on trips just in case, although this had not happened yet). The LED spot-light fittings are not very strong, one completely fell apart when I was driving it from the dealer to home on sealed roads.

4) The hatches are a bit small for some items. You cannot fit a Webber Q baby through them (even though the sales guy said you could), so you will need to source a BBQ that does fit if you want one.

5) When you drop the dining table down to form a second sleeping area, the bit of foam that they include to go over the table and form the complete mattress area is not secured in any way and immediately falls off onto the floor as soon as someone tries sleeping on it.

Pros:

1) The chassis that the caravan sits on is very strong.

2) They use a DO35 hitch (https://www.couplemate.com.au/couplings-off-road/do35/) which I really like (just be aware that you will need to fit this to your car, and the old round towball will go... I would recommend getting a second hitch plate and have both).

3) The outside / external shower, water tap, gas BBQ bayonet fitting and extra anderson style plug connected straight to the deep cycle batteries (this allows you to connect extra solar panels or an inverter) are great.

4) The fridge is awesome. You have heaps of freezer space and fridge space.

5) Great storage. Heaps and heaps of places to put things. The front storage hatch area is really long and wide and holds lots of useful things like chairs, tables, etc.

Hope this helps you make your decision.

Hilly. Nick hits the nail on the head re after sales service - like most things you get no where. We are well out of warranty but have found helpful people in our area who have given us good advise. Tyres were a big problem they were inferior didn't last very long before bits came off. We now have good ones the same as the tow vehicle. Yes the van is "semi off road" (they said it was off road - Ha!) but my hubby says where ever his 1997 Toyota goes the van goes and that's mostly dirt. Biggest advice - weight - get it right and legal, it's not worth the fine or a life to be extremely over weight. Our van is suitable, although I will always say it was built in a hurry!! The finish is unprofessional and there are far too many LED lights, it gives you a headache! We are sorry we upgraded from our lovely Jayco Penguin, should have refurbished to suit our needs. Good luck with what ever you decide. Our travels have taken us over 70,000 kms and still so much more to see. Have not found a van that is perfect, would love to know who has! Bye.

Hilly
Hilly

Thanks for that, Mary. It sounds like you still have the Territory. Have you found that the care is needed to prevent towball heavy or light? Does the van tow well on corrugations? Apparently in WA, the selling dealership have taken over warranty work and they deal with Supreme to be reimbursed so if that is the case I may still be swayed. Is your overall time in the van pleasant or are your travels just constant bad events with the van?

Hilly
Hilly

Thank you very much for your response, Nick. What year is your van? Not suitable for dirt roads with corrugations concerns me because that is likely to be our bread and butter. Im happy to hear that neither you or Mary mention electrical troubles so Im hoping the charger problem is history. I believe they use Redarc now. Again, i ask, is your overall time in the van pleasant or are your travels just constant bad events with the van?

Muriel L.
Muriel L.

Hilly, Please refer to my answer to "Terry" further down the page in Product Review. We have got use to the van although it's still too big. Only take the necessary things. In hindsight we should have a double axle on our 18 footer. But YOU are suppose to know that an extra water tank, solar panel and battery and spare wheel add to the weight and limit everything else, no one will tell you! We can't legally leave home fully loaded even with minimal food, drink, clothes etc. Trying to get that sorted. Just be careful the weight 'thing' is a major topic now and some states are bringing in new laws .... it needs to be right for your safety and others too. Other than the 'weight thing' the van is good. We blotted out some lights and recycle water and absolutely love the diesel heater! Safe travels.

Cheers.

Can someone please tell me what is the size the white sunraysia wheels are for a 2007 Supreme Territory off road caravan. I am currently 200km away from the van and need to pick up a spare wheel. Stud pattern would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Husband says probably Toyota Landcruiser, thats what fits our 2015 Territory. (6 stud). Then again there is 8 years between so could be different. Good Luck. Cheers

Hi I am looking at a2015 Territory and wondering are they any good? I want to go off road a lot and free camp.

Mary L
Mary L

Hi Terry, We have had no "serious" problems with our Territory. We purchased a new van so our probs were with the after service relating to warranty coverage, gave up trying to recover costs in that department (was like extracting teeth!!!) We have done some serious dirt roads in 2 Jayco Penguins we have had previously and now the full Territory van. Our previous experiences helped us with the way this van was built for us. Eventhough we had pipes and lines and taps covered underneath things still broke (lost our water twice from broken taps). If you are familiar with dirt road travel you will know what can happen. Our last trip (we are on the mid north coast) was to Trilby Station on the Darling River NSW, dirt from Cobar to Trilby then down to Tilpa, Menindee, Ivanhoe ..... 90% dirt, great trip and no dust in the van. The van works for us, bit big, but age has been the reason for a full van. AND yes we free camp as much as possible. We have 3 solar panels, 3 batteries and 80 extra litres of drinking water and the best thing of all ... a diesel heater. Hope this is helpful and you find what you are looking for. Always willing to share info. Happy travels ..... we will be on the road again soon. Cheers. ML

I am considering a Supreme Territory with Simplicity Suspension and slide out for a trip up to Northern Queensland am looking for about 20-22 feet long packed with everything at an age of 2010 or better I have up to $50,000 cash to spend is anyone out there able to give me advice or point me to one for sale. Must be in acceptably good condition. Thanks

Mike

The first thing that I would be looking at would be the weight of the van, with full gas bottles and water tanks as they are a heavy van and when the additional weight with all of the above there will not be much weight left for any thing else
