I had a suzuki alto 2009 automatic dont have any issue when driving except the problem is when I reversing from my garage it shake or vibrate a lot and also at drive. So when I put it to D or R it shakes really bad.Not sure I'm planning to replace the electronic throttle body if it will help to sort the massive vibration issue...Any ideas???

I have the exact same car. The car shakes when I put on reverse gear, on drive is much better. This shake only occur when the car stationery. My mechanic told me that he could not find anything wrong with the car. He checked the engine mounts and they appeared to be fine. I reckon this is due to the engine setup being 3 cylinder. I started to think this shake as the character of the car. One other thing that I will try is to install dampening material on door and the under the carpet. I heard that can reduce vibration.

engine mounts ....after market mounts fixed problem ...check coil packs and ignition system also keep up with oil changers...three cylinders will vibrate but not to the point of that reverse vibration issue ...great little car ...great on fuel ....

Hi my 2013 Alto is making a squealing noise when taking off under load say a hill start or when car has four people in it. Doesn’t appear to be a belt as it doesn’t happen any other time.

I'm thinking of purchasing a 2012 Suzuki Alto GL Manual. It has 47,900km on the clock and a log-book service history, apparently. I want a fuel efficient, reliable car that will get me from A-B around town for the next two years. Are the 2012 models still going strong or should I spend a bit more money on something else? Advertised for $5,900 which is above the online valuations (planning to negotiate). Thanks!

Does the Alto require premium unleaded as a must or you can run just plain 91 unleaded in them? Thanks

The suzuki alto requires 95 ron or 98 i personally run my 2011 on 95 ron and i never ever use E10 because i did use E10 once and my suzuki alto did not run as smooth as it normally does

my suzuki alto 1.0 2012 has cranking issues.

it has 59,000 kilometres and had a full service at 54k. the car starts up at very random crank intervals. for instance it will start straight away first thing in the morning then I could stop for a few mins then it will crank over and over untill it starts. but sometimes I get this problem first thing in the morning. some days it will start on the button straight away.. it's so random. any ideas? It has never failed to start just slow. I presume it would be a slark plug issue but I'm sure this was done in the full service. or is this a 3 cylinder thing? this is my first 3 cylinder and not sure if it's a compression thing and this is just normal?

Douglas

At a guess I'd be getting someone to check out your crank angle sensor ' if the problem is worse when the engine is hot then my guess is i would start with the crank angle sensor

I have a problem with the steering in alto 2000 pulling to the left the warrant guy said its a electrical thing is this right?

Professor

would be very surprised if the 2000 model had electric power steering like my 2014 model. First checks would be tyre pressure, next a wheel alignment check would discover wear or damage. Unfortunately you did not indicate what checks the "warrant guy" did to come to his conclusion.

Please help I have just bought a 2009 alto and found that I have an annoying problem.

While driving the car runs beautifully but when I pull up at traffic lights (foot on brake and car in drive) the car goes into a massive shake and then settles down. Is this NORMAL?

The mechanic say that it is because it's only a three cylinder engine.

Douglas
Douglas

Your mechanic is most probably correct but in saying this my suzuki alto does not vibrate this bad but it does vibrate a little ' i changed my air filter and this vibration issues has settled down and now my suzuki alto is so much better on fuel ' but also check your spark plugs ' spark plugs in the suzuki alto are good for up to 100 thousand kilometres

Douglas
Douglas

Also just to be on the safe side try this just to see if your havent got a brake booster vacuum leak' put your foot on your brake pedal and push it to the floor' then start your car ' the brake pedal should immediately push strait back up without hesitation 'also after your start your suzuki alto push your brake pedal to the floor and see if the engine tries to stall 'if you do this and your engine stalls or almost stalls then get your brake booster inspected for a possible leak

I wanted a safe economical automatic car for my granddaughter who is studying at uni and just got her driving license, I bought the car from a dealer and I didn't notice any problems when I test drove the car. After the dealer did a road worthy, changed an engine mount and did a minor service before I picked up the car is when I notice the problem. Douglas, thank you for your help, I checked the air filter and found that it was not fitted into the correctly, after pushing it into place there is only a slight noticeable vibration

Hi, just wondering how the Suzuki Alto handles steep hills/gravel roads? I mostly drive around the city but once a week I go horseriding and there's a relatively steep gravel hill I need to drive up. Thanks.

Professor
Professor

Hi Emma, the Alto will handle steep climbs but you need patience. For example, two up with luggage we regularly climb Willunga Hill in South Australia, starting at 100kph at the bottom, we arrive at the peak at 85kph five minutes later, rarely exceeding 4500rpm in the automatic. This is an historically long, steep climb, but the Alto doesn't overheat or suffer. You must remember that tiny Austin 7's crossed Australia decades ago!

Skinny tyres work fine on gravel, not so, wide tyres.

Of course nothing matches a horse!

im looking at buying a secondhand alto 2012 model 4 dr hatch auto im 120 kg i want it mainly for city running with occasional freeway trips any advice how they behave a how smooth the transmission is? thanks

Jo.

I'm 5'11 and have no problems with the size, I find it more spacious in the driver seat than many larger cars (including the new hilux and ford rangers). It is excellent city driving, it's a small car so highway driving isn't its forte, but I'm comfortable driving it on 3 hour trips on the highway. It definitely doesn't have any trouble keeping up with traffic with driver + a passenger (different story with adults in the back 'seats'). Maybe take it for a test drive and see how comfy you find it.

It is normal for the car. It does only have 1 litre engine so is to be expected.

does anyone think the 2012 alto would be ok for my mum she is 77 years old and a fairly heavey woman?

Why not? The Front seat is good and supports well. Check if its too low to get in and out. Also check the steering weight when parked, its slightly heavier than usual when parked.

Hi Guys, I'm hoping someone can help with some advice - this morning, I drove my 2011 Suzuki Alto GLS to work, I parked in the drive way, turned the engine off and realized I had left my window open, I turned the ignition on again - but not all the way (just had the lights on the dash) - it made a loud winding sound, I noticed my window battled to close, so I turned the ignition off and tried to turn it back on again, my engine wouldn't start - this time only the steering wheel light with exclamation mark came up, I turned the vehicle off again and left it for a couple minutes and then tried to turn it back on - this time - IT WAS DEAD. Not a light came on, not even a click - nothing! My central locking isn't even working. Does anyone maybe know what the problem could be???? Some urgent advice would be highly appreciated.

Hi the seat base doesn't come up - the seat backs just fold forwards (splits in 2) - there's a little tab you pull near the head rests.

It is best that you get it checked by a qualified mechanic. Could be the tyres or something else.

Please remember it is a 3 cylinder car!

I have a 2010 Suzuki alto auto and bought brand new and in 2012 had front left wheel bearing replaced under warranty, camber pins replaced in 2012 as I kept getting bald front left tyre (not under warranty) gone through 3 sets of tyres and now my front left wheel bearing has gone again. Suzuki won't do anything about the 2nd failed wheel bearing on left side as car is out of warranty. Any suggestions on why all the problems are in the left side and how I can get this bearing fixed at no cost to me? Bearings should last longer then 3 years in my opinion. Suzuki over time have said there is nothing wrong with the car.

Very happy customer
Very happy customer

I am not a mechanic to answer your question. Most probably it could be the way you drive the car. Are you gentle towards it? Good example is I used to be a "lead foot" before I bought my Suzuki Alto. Due to my driving habits I ruined two brand new cars I bought before. One cost $25,000 in 1989 (Mazda 626) and the other cost $43,000 in 1999(Holden Vectra V6 with all the sports additions in it). First car cost $5,000 to repair and the other a similar cost.

Do I blame the car? No I blame myself as I used to rev up both cars and drive them like racing cars.

Now my habits have changed my Alto which I bought brand new in 2012 has not caused issues so far.

My advice is be gentle towards your car and do the servicing when they are due also check the tyre pressure every perhaps six months.

The shaking when standing still is this normal? The garage said it is because it is a 3 cylinder.

Yes a minor vibration I can live with it. Remember it is not a Mercedes!

I paid $14,000 and bought the 3 cylinder Suzuki Alto brand new in June 2012 and it is performing well to my satisfaction.
