Good day . I drive a 2011 Suzuki SX 4 sedan 2 litre motor with cvt gearbox with 90,000 km. There is a grinding noise in the front end just after I drive off and just before I come to a stop . I replaced the gearbox oil ( the green oil from Suzuki Japan ) but the noise is still there Is it the cvt gearbox itself ?… the cones ?, the torque converter ? Is it the drive gears/shaft from the gearbox to the wheels ? It is not brake pads or wheel bearings or anything in the motor Do you know of any other Suzuki’s with same motor and cvt gearbox with the same problem , is it a common problem Thank you , Barry. bnbwalker@gmail.com

Wanting to know if the Suzuki SX 4 is any good on sandy beaches or not? Thank you in Advance

Rowan
Rowan

Well, far, far better than a conventional 2WD car. All SX4's have a bit better ground clearance than something like a Corolla. The 4x4 versions of the SX4 can be placed in LOCK mode after holding a switch in the centre console, allowing roughly 50/50 traction spilt between front and rear wheels. This means you're far more unlikely to get bogged. But deep soft sand can still bog the big 4WD's, tyre pressure etc. If you're sensible or have any experience with sand driving you'll be fine. The SX4 in 4x4 trim is a great all rounder. Today if I were to buy a similar vehicle it would be the Mitsubishi ASX in 4WD trim. Exactly the same sort of car but way better reliability. I would've bought this back then but it was only available overseas, Mitsubishi only released the ASX in Australia about a year after I bought my SX4.

never had it in sand

I live in the US and own a 2009 AWD SX4 with tech package, manual transmission because I like to drive them. It's i great shape, with 97k miles, kept well-serviced. But they aren't expensive resales. What is making them so expensive where you are? You could buy mine and have it flown there for that price!

Rowan

Cars in Australia are expensive. What can I say. We used to manufacture cars here. Holden (GM), Ford, Mitsubishi. The government applied high taxes to imports, Japanese cars for example, to make prices similar to the locally made (in some people's opinion) junk. Also, all our prices include GST, the advertised price is what you pay. In the US I believe sticker prices for everything excludes sales tax you have to pay in most states.

Anyway I have fond memory of my SX4 but Google "sx4 the engine failure thread" the low oil indicator does not work in time on these cars, and the engines are built with poor tolerances so they burn oil from day one to some extent but it gets worse. Check your oil constantly and you should get some life out of it. But I'm personally put off owning Suzuki in the future because of their refusal of help to me and others who bought this car. The engine is not something that should fail so commonly on a newish low mileage car, the oil should last the service interval and the low oil light should work!

Suzuki sx4 model (all or 4 wheel drive) can go on sand?how's sand driving test?

Leonie P
Leonie P

I do not have an SX4, I have a Grand Vitara, and have used the low ratio on a number of times in mud, and no problem at all, so would assume, if it can drive in muddy conditions, the S-Cross should be okay IF it is a true high/low ratio 4x4. But, as with any true 4x4, when driving on sand you MUST lower the PSI of all four tyres and have a pump to reinflate them once you get onto the hard surface.

Leonie P
Leonie P

PS: I would be very wary of buying a Suzuki FULL STOP as they are petrol guzzlers as the motor is NOT big enough to handle the weight of the body and they have a lot of issues. Buyer beware!!

yes, I purchased a Grand Vitara last year, for height, ( bad back ) while I love it,,, its bit hungry for fuel, after having a Kia Rio for 10 years, and so cheap to run. Now not working, and watching the dollars, I'm about to re sell and get a S4,, right height etc, just hope its cheaper to run,, those that have them say yes it is. hope they are right !! .

I have a 2010 SX4 Sedan that until recently I absolutely loved, has anyone else had problems with their keyless start. After changing the battery in the remotes, neither of mine will work, the keyless entry also won't work but the door opening works manually when the buttons are pushed on the remote, so it can't be a battery issue. Suzuki have been no help, I feel totally ripped off being asked to pay for 2 remotes to be reprogrammed at $300+

Suzuki don't care when something goes wrong .... Maybe Japan might I thought ... No . Can't help sorry but isn't yours still under warranty?

Ian Burrell

Consult youtube programming your remote,it may be the answer, some remotes lose their connection when changing batteries.put key in the ignition, hold down door lock unlock while turning ignition on off, then hold down on remote unlock lock simultaneously ,start ignition you should have a result.Remotes don't like shock so be careful.

Thanks Ian, I have tried the youtube, but it didn't work. The weird thing is the doors will still open & lock by pressing the remote buttons but the keyless start or keyless entry won't work.

hello, I luv my Suzuki sx4 2012 auto...but does anyone know what kind of reserve after fuel light pings?? many thanks

Ian Burrell
Ian Burrell

No idea and I don't want to find out ,fuel in Australia is so dirty you should not run it low or you risk fuel injector poor performance.

andrew99
andrew99

The 4x4 SX4 has a 45 litre tank(4x2 model 50 litres) and when the light comes on in my car it's at 33-35 litres(that's what it takes at the servo),so about 10 litres.Don't let it get too low as in all cars the last bit is a bit dirty.I use injector cleaner every 5 or 10.000kms to help keep the system clean.

Do the 2008 versions have a chain cam belt? And do the NZ New cars have the CTV gearbox?

Thanks Andy

loopyma

Sorry Andy l have no idea. l just drove it.

andrew99
andrew99

Yes,all the 2 lt engines have a chain. The gearbox (in Aust) was a conventional 4sp auto/5sp man until late 09,then CVT/6sp man with same but slightly more powerful engine and updated interior. It will still be available for a while along side the new S-Cross.The car will be deleted eventually as the S-Cross is the replacement.

Thinking about a used one at 74 better to get in out of ,how common are the problems of water pump cat converter key less entry ,and what dink om automatic fuel economy in town and country?

loopyma
loopyma

Hi Richard, keyless entry is spot on and l miss it. Fuel was good. Not sure about the other things you ask about. l sold mine about 12 months ago now. Cheers.

andrew99
andrew99

The economy will vary enormously depending on where/how you drive. My 09 4sp auto gets as low as 6.5 lt/100kms in easy country driving,7.5 freeway speeds.Suburban ranges 8-11 and hard city slog 11-13 lt/100kms all measured with A/C on.(city delivery work at it's worst) I believe the CVT versions will do 1 to 2 lt better particularly in the city.I'm at 95000kms and no problems with the water pump, don't have keyless it's a regular remote(std model) and wouldn't know if the cat was good or not but it goes like a scalded cat off from the lights. This site is the first time I've see any problems with the SX4 and my experience has proven faultless. Its also cheap for spares, brake pads Bendix $60 pair.

Can the sx4 be flat towed behind motor home?

andrew99
andrew99

I don't think so because there isn't a "neutral ".They don't have a transfere box, which needs the "neutral " position for flat towing. My personal view is go for an older Suzuki Vitara which has that. Not sure the current Grand has one.The other option might be a small car,eg Suzuki Alto, only $11,990 D/A,and use a small single axle car trailer as this is light enough for one person to manhandle when empty. This option opens up the choice of vehicles depending on your needs. The SX4 is short, weighs only 1275kg in 4X4,and would fit a small trailer.

loopyma
loopyma

Be safer than driving it. The drive by wire throttle had a scarey mind of it's own for me.

andrew99
andrew99

To loopyma :I hope you went straight to Suzuki because I constantly read car website's and havn't read anyone having any problems with the SX4,absolutely none with mine also.I would be interested to know the details of the problem and the end result.andrewwillis22@telstra.com

Does any body have issues with brakes squealing and grabbing. My dash brake dash light is also constantly coming on. was informed by a mechanic that this is a factory issue.

Not cheap enough
Not cheap enough

Disks may need machining and try a different brand of pads. My original pads squealed and were grabby until I machined the disks and replaced the pads. They are as smooth as silk now. Brake dash light is faulty or something that is connected to it needs fixing, adjusting or replacing.

I had my front disc's machined and new pads fitted at 90k service, just like new again...
